'I AM LEGION' #1 SELLS OUT
Devil's Due Overships The Zombies That Ate the World #1

Chicago, IL. (Feb. 20, 2009) -The first issue of the Devil's Due Publishing and Humanoids partnership, I Am Legion, has sold out at the distributor level after being available for less than a week.

"It's no surprise that this book is flying off of the stands once you see John Cassaday's gorgeous art, and the story is going to keep everyone coming back," says DDP President Josh Blaylock. "It's a beautiful, intense thriller of a comic."

French writer, Fabien Nury, and American artists, John Cassaday and Laura Martin, teamed up to bring audiences an elaborate tale set in the WWII era and a young girl whose super power is the center of a secret experiment. The story arc spans six issues, which will be released on a monthly basis.

Guy Davis' (PBRD) and Jerry Frissen's (Lucha Libre) international undead hit, The Zombies That Ate the World, is now in stores. As a retailer treat, DDP has overshipped the title to participating stores.

The eight monthly issue run is the second title being released through the DDP and Humanoid publishing partnership. The series revolves around a world that has become overrun with zombies; these zombies, however, aren't quite the traditional kind.

As a bonus, here is an eight page preview of the second issue of The Zombies That Ate the World.(preview suggested for mature readers): http://devilsdue.net/images/stories/5pgrs/Zombies02/

PRESS RELEASE - EVERYONE ON EARTH MUST OWN I KILL GIANTS THIS MAY! Image Comics releases the trade paperback everyone who breathes oxygen needs to buy this May: Joe Kelly and JM Ken Niimura's I KILL GIANTS!

19 February 2009 (Berkeley, CA) - This May, Image Comics releases Joe Kelly and JM Ken Niimura's complete I KILL GIANTS trade paperback while declaring everyone on the planet Earth should buy it since it's so damn good.

"I'm really flattered Image would make that kind of claim, so much so Ken and I are humbled beyond words and hope people like it as much as Image thinks they will," Kelly said. "Ken certainly did a phenomenal job with the art and I like to think it's pretty good as a whole. Then again, there's a lot of people on Earth. Maybe only half the population should buy the collection and recommend it to friends if they think it'll appeal to them. That's still a lot of people. At least three billion."

I KILL GIANTS tells the heart-wrenching story of Barbara Thorson, a girl whose own family can't tell if she's insane or actually the giant slayer she claims to be. During its seven issue run, fans were won over by Joe Kelly's impeccable storytelling and JM Ken Niimura's charming visuals, creating what the publisher believes will be one of the shining stars in its strong line of perennial collections for several centuries to come.

Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson said, "While Image prides itself on its entire line of comic books, graphic novels and trade paperbacks, we feel I KILL GIANTS is a title all six billion people on Earth will enjoy, whether they're already comics fans or not. I'm personally buying six copies to hand out to various friends and family members – and I get them for free!"

I KILL GIANTS (MAR092427), a 184-page black and white tradepaperback for $15.99, will be in stores May 13th, 2009.

Baker’s High Flying Hawkman

BY JENNIFER M. CONTINO
Although he's known to most people for the funny comics he's done, there's a lot more to Kyle Baker than his semi-autobiographical works and his fan-favorite Plastic Man series. One of his upcoming projects includes a realistic Hawkman adventure, that begins with a plane hijacking and, as Baker told THE PULSE, "... leads to a mystery involving an alien invasion from space." Baker, whose busy working on Special Forces, a Barack Obama project, and the animated The Bakers series, took time away from his drawing table to give us a few teasers about the high-flying Hawkman.

By popular demand, Yoda’s BACK!

Witness the return of the Jedi in “Ambush,” the resounding fan-favorite episode of the hit animated series STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, airing again at 9 p.m. ET/PT Friday, February 20, on Cartoon Network.

The diminutive Jedi Master takes on an entire droid army, while at the same time teaching the clones under his command a powerful lesson about the nature of the Force. It was this deft combination of action and Star Wars philosophy – with a touch of impish humor from the venerable Master – that secured the episode’s place at the top of the fan-favorite list. The CLONE WARS premiere episode, “Ambush” scored as the most-watched series debut in Cartoon Network history. STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS has since gone on to become the top-rated series in its time period with all male demographics, with “Ambush” consistently ranking atop the fan-favorite lists!

“Yoda is such an important icon in the Star Wars universe, and the importance of doing right by him – and the fans – was not lost on us,” says supervising director Dave Filoni. “There were heavy expectations going into this series, and since he played such an integral role in the launch episode, Yoda had to carry the weight of those expectations on his little shoulders. Of course, if he’s taught us anything, though, it’s that size matters not.”

Despite Yoda’s own confidence in the Force, bringing the Jedi Master to life was a distinct challenge for the artists at Lucasfilm Animation, who had to develop his signature look and personality in an all-new medium – while at the same time launching the most expansive look at the Star Wars universe yet. The process began with concept art, meant to convey the design of the character and to capture the various moods and expressions necessary to flesh out any given scene.

“We’ve seen Yoda in many different forms, from the puppets used in Episode V to the complete CG rendering of the prequels to the 2-D animation of the micro-series,” says Filoni. “There was a lot of source material to form the foundation, but we had to make Yoda a living part of our CLONE WARS design. And we had an opportunity to combine everything in this episode – from Yoda’s serious side, as we saw it in the prequels, to the playful side that was our first introduction to the character in The Empire Strikes Back.”
E1 Entertainment breathes new life into ONE OF

THE MOST BELOVED ANIMATED CLASSICS OF ALL TIME

MAX FLEISCHER’S GULLIVER’S TRAVELS

Digitally Restored and Re-mastered, the 2-Time Academy Award Nominee Arrives on DVD and, for the First Time Ever, Blu-ray – Featuring Breathtaking, Newly Enhanced Picture and Sound –

Plus Bonus Features!

Port W ashington, NY– In 1939, animation pioneers Max and Dave Fleischer (Betty Boop, Popeye, Superman) made motion picture history when Paramount Pictures released their masterpiece, Gulliver’s Travels, the second feature-length animated film produced by a U.S. studio. This enchanting adaptation of Jonathan Swift’s classic 18th century novel went on to earn two Academy Award nominations for Best Original Song (“Faithful Forever”) and Best Score, and is considered one of the greatest achievements in animation history. Seventy years later, E1 Entertainment proudly presents a digitally restored, re-mastered and enhanced MAX FLEISCHER’S GULLIVER’S TRAVELS on DVD ($14.98 SRP) and – for the first time ever in any HD format – Blu-ray ($19.98 SRP). This painstakingly crafted edition includes the complete 77 minute feature plus two fully restored “Gabby” cartoons and the Fleischer Studios documentary short “The Making of a Cartoon” – all contributing to make this the most definitive version of the film ever released on any home entertainment format.

Truly a feast for the eyes and ears, Swift’s ageless fant as y comes to life in this cel-animated Technicolor musical. In the film, Gulliver washes ashore on the mysterious island of Lilliput, where all the inhabitants stand no more than a few inches tall. Gabby, the Lilliput town crier, discovers Gulliver unconscious on the beach, and alerts King Little who sends a mob of townspeople to capture the “giant.” Once awake, Gulliver’s size and strength frightens the Lilliputians, but they soon realize that befriending Gulliver gives them a powerful advantage over their rival neighbors, the equally tiny Blefuscudians. Caught in the feud between the two kingdoms, Gulliver resolves the conflict and reunites a prince with his princess before sailing away in one of the “hap-hap-happiest” endings of all time.

Backed by Paramount and utilizing the talents of 600 of the best artists, Max and Dave Fleischer created Gulliver's Travels, one of the most complicated and detailed animated features ever produced. Their staff toiled for over two years, using twelve tons of paint and 39,000 pencils to create over 639,000 celluloids and 115,000 composite scenes. The “gigantic” titular character was animated using rotoscoping, a process which involves tracing live-action footage frame-by-frame – one of several innovative animation techniques developed by the Fleischers and Fleischer Studios. Popular songs composed for the film include “All’s Well,” “It’s a Hap-Hap-Happy Day” and “Faithful Forever,” all of which later became well-known standards.

By the late 1990s this animated gem had sadly fallen into disrepair, but thanks to a close relationship with the Fleischer family, North Hampton Partners and animation expert Dr. Thomas R. Reich were able to secure a long-lost 35mm source print. State-of-the-art technology enabled the film to be meticulously revived, removing years of dirt and restoring damaged portions of the frames. Gulliver's Travels was then color corrected using 100% historically accurate palettes at Technicolor and was re-mastered for the first time ever in 16x9 (1080p High Definition). This entire process was done frame-by-frame without stretching characters or losing any image beyond standard vertical safe areas – and the use of proprietary techniques actually enables more picture to be visible on the left and right sides of the frame than ever before. Additionally, the original soundtrack was fully restored and supplemented by two newly enhanced sound options (Dolby Digital and 5.1) utilizing multi-track Foley techniques. The bonus Fleischer documentary “The Making of a Cartoon” as well as the two Gabby cartoons featured on the DVD and Blu-ray (“Swing Cleaning” and “King for a Day”) were also restored, making MAX FLEISCHER’S GULLIVER’S TRAVELS a must-own for fans of

cl assic animation and children of all ages.

MR. STUFFINS follows the saga of a talking teddy bear that has been accidentally implanted with a chip, granting him the skills of the deadliest secret agents and mercenaries on the planet! Mr. Stuffins has to protect his new owner, Zachary, as evil forces hunt Mr. Stuffins down to steal his powers. Can this super-secret teddy bear save the day?

The original first issue of MR. STUFFINS shipped nearly two years ago, in April of 2007. All over the country, the original sold out at convention after convention as fans asked the question, "When will issue #2 come out?" Unfortunately, a second issue didn't follow. "It's totally my fault, I'll take the blame," said BOOM! co-founder Ross Richie. "That year BOOM! really started to boom, and we grew out of control. Thankfully, Mark Waid came in as Editor-in-Chief in 2008 and helped us correct problems like this and get an infrastructure." Now the bear is back in a completely re-drawn and re-colored first issue with all new art from Axel Medellin, on-time and on-schedule!

The first B cover features a re-colored version of the Joe Abraham original. The B covers for issues 2 and 3 are by Matt Cossin, who worked on METAL HURLANT.

"I'm thrilled to return to the story of MR. STUFFINS," said MR. STUFFINS co-writer Andrew Cosby. "One of the reasons why EUREKA is so successful is due to its ability to blend the absurd with the realistic, turning the campy into a vehicle for entertainment and, if there's time, maybe a serious message or two. MR. STUFFINS also scratches that itch!"

MR. STUFFINS #1 (New Edition) features two variant covers in a 50/50 split by David Petersen, Joe Abraham with a Diamond Order Code of FEB094133 and ships this April.

IDW Presents Spike: After the Fall HC, by Joss Whedon, Brian Lynch, and artist Franco Urru

(San Diego, CA; Feb 19, 2009) Experience Spike’s adventures After the Fall in this continuation of the best-selling Angel series from IDW, in stores this month.

Vampire, poet, murderer, lover, hero, or soulless fiend– William The Bloody, Spike to his “friends,” has been called many things over the centuries. And now that L.A. has fallen into Hell, he may earn one more – Lord. Or possibly “dust.” It all depends on how things turn out in his immediate future… which isn’t looking too good in a city overrun by every kind of demon, monster or horrifyingly tentacled “thing” imaginable. Including Illyria, who seems to be having a serious identity problem. One minute she’s happily tearing down buildings or punching something sticky, the next she’s Fred, vulnerable and confused.

Reluctantly, Spike becomes the leader of a ragged band of survivors and tries to figure out what’s up with his platonic (and blue) girl friend. Unfortunately, a nasty cadre of hellish imports want to take over Spike’s turf, and at least one of them has a bad habit of literally sucking the life out of her victims.

Yet when Spike becomes a prisoner and a plaything for this band of beastly babes, it may take more than Illyria’s otherworldly power to save him. But Spike never goes down without a fight… not even when the odds are stacked against him. That’s usually when he does some heroic… or incredibly stupid.

Spike: After the Fall is written by fan favorite writer Brian Lynch (Spike: Asylum), over seen by creator Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel) and compellingly illustrated by Franco Urru.

Originally published as Spike: After the Fall Issues #1-4, this handsomely designed hardcover edition collects the entire story arc and presents an Art Gallery with exclusive alternative covers by Franco Urru and The Sharp Bros.

BOOM! STUDIOS LAUNCHES
"15 MINUTES WITH WAID" PODCAST

A new part of the MarkWaid.com website!

LOS ANGELES- February 18th, 2009 - BOOM! Studios today launched the weekly "15 Minutes with Waid" podcast, where you will be able to get your weekly dose of Mark Waid ruminating on the hot topics of today's comic industry and talking about the latest creative endeavors of the inimitable Mark Waid.

Called "15 Minutes with Waid," the podcast wil be limited to 15 minutes and is hosted at the newly launched MARKWAID.COM, which premiered last month.

BOOM! Studios Editor-In Chief Mark Waid, award-winning writer of such series as KINGDOM COME, EMPIRE, 52, and AMAZING-SPIDER MAN and a longtime industry veteran, hits the keyboard to blog regularly at MARKWAID.COM about his years of experience in the field. Updated daily with new content, MARKWAID.COM features free webcomics, podcasts, vlogs, script tutorials, rants, and special guests on a regular basis.

Waid's new series, IRREDEEMABLE, launches this April and will feature variant covers by John Cassaday (ASTONISHING X-MEN, PLANETARY) and Barry Kitson (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) in a 75/25 split and a special afterword by Grant Morrison. It is currently available for pre-order from the Diamond Previews Catalog with an order code of FEB094134.

"In superhero comics, pretty much everyone who's called upon to put on a cape is, at heart, emotionally equipped for the job. I reject that premise," said series writer and BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Mark Waid. "IRREDEEMABLE is, in a way, my third and most complex chapter on the cost of superheroics - a pulp adventure tale of horror exploring how the lessons we learn about right and wrong as children can become warped and twisted when challenged by the realities of the adult world."

Queenie Chan, author of the popular mystery-horror series The Dreaming and co-author (with Dean Koontz) of In Odd We Trust , will draw the manga for the The Boy's Book of Positive Quotations. The graphica will follow the life of a boy who receives mysterious text messages from a beautiful ninja. Her proverbs guide him on the honor code of the aspiring ninja and tie in with the rest of the book's modern-day advice, written by Steve Deger as well as compiled from various pop culture sources.

Says Deger: “The age-old storyline of the sensei and student gets a makeover in this hybrid manga/advice book. I'm excited to bring Queenie Chan’s brilliant artwork from the manga shelves to the inspiration aisles. It's proof that virtually any message can be communicated via graphica.”

Queenie Chan comments: “I want my artwork to inspire people to widen their horizons. Learning about the world, history, other cultures and having an appreciation for things outside your own little box is important. So I'm excited to have my artwork paired with the insightful thoughts of accomplished people from all corners of the globe.”

ABOUT THE CREATORS:

Steve Deger is the co-creator of the Positive Quotations series. A past speaker, fundraiser, and "Big" for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, he lives with his wife and frequent co-author Leslie Gibson in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Queenie Chan was born in 1980 in Hong Kong and migrated to Australia when she was six years old. Her three-volume mystery-horror series The Dreaming was published by L.A.-based manga publisher TOKYOPOP, and has been translated into six languages. She collaborated on the graphic novel In Odd We Trust with publisher Del Rey, a prequel to the Odd Thomas series of novels by New York Times best-selling author Dean Koontz. The book was published in June 2008, hitting #1 in graphic novel sales in the first week. She is currently partnering with Koontz on a second second Odd Thomas graphic novel.

IDW RELEASES DR. WHO, THE WHISPERING GALLERY

(San Diego, February 13, 2009) In this special one-shot, Dr. Who, The Whispering Gallery, superstar artist Ben Templesmith tackles his first full Dr. Who project, alongside comic book writers Leah Moore & John Reppion.

In The Whispering Gallery, the TARDIS lands in a maze-like gallery filled with thousands of talking pictures, and the Doctor and Martha discover they've come across a planet where showing emotion has been outlawed. The inhabitants have good reason for their supression, but it wouldn't be like the Doctor to leave them in fear of truly living.

Married writing team Leah Moore and John Reppion have been fans of “Doctor Who” for nearly as long as they can remember, and pitched IDW Publishing on their story idea for the classic British sci-fi hero after Leah had a dream about a two-page spread one night.

Leah Moore said the couple had a hard time initially thinking up an original storyline. “Everything we could think up had already been done, or was not the right kind of story. We went off to bed one night after brainstorming fruitlessly for hours, and I went to sleep worrying that we'd not be able to think of anything and miss out on writing it altogether.”

After the dream, Leah says she woke up knowing clearing what they would do for Dr. Who, and got the story turned around very quickly after that.

Moore and Reppion became involved in the project after being approached by artist Ben Templesmith, an admirer of their work.

“Ben actually approached Leah via the modern miracle of Twitter and asked her if we'd be interested in pitching for a Dr Who one-shot with him as the artist,” explained Reppion. “Naturally, we were thrilled and said yes immediately. Ben is a fantastic artist and we both really admire his work, so it's great to be able to work with him on such a brilliant little project.

Doctor Who: The Whispering Gallery hits stands February 29 from IDW Publishing.
