FROM THE ASHES: New Graphic Novel by Bob Fingerman
is a "Speculative Memoir"

FROM THE ASHES creator Bob Fingerman and real-life wife Michele against the radioactive elements in post-apocalyptic New York City

"Fingerman is a brilliant satirist, artist and mind. From the Ashes made me laugh out loud. Awesome." - Trey Parker (South Park)

SAN DIEGO, CA - IDW Publishing is proud to announce that Bob Fingerman's From the Ashes, a graphic novel collecting the renowned series, will debut on February 10, 2010. A "speculative memoir," From the Ashes pits Fingerman and his real-life wife, Michele, against the radioactive elements in a post-apocalyptic New York City, positing an alternate timeline that starts in the lead up to the 2008 presidential election.

"The problem with most memoirs is there just aren't enough mutants and zombies in them for my liking," said Fingerman, and he rectifies that problem in spades in this gorgeously drawn, sharply written satire.

"From the Ashes is my speculative memoir of 'what might yet be' (well, not really). It's an open love letter to my wife -- but not a gummy, icky, Nicholas Sparksy Harlequin Romance kind of thing," wrote Fingerman in a recent HUFFINGTON POST piece. "I don't want to leak spoilers, but readers should take special pleasure in the messianic depiction of a scary TV pundit, far-right religious whackos, celeb corpses, tinges of Oz (as in The Wizard of as well as the HBO series). With nearly six billion dead, there's plenty of room to share my nuclear holocaust."

Additionally, From the Ashes also offers a refreshing twist on how both women and marriage are usually portrayed in comics. Fingerman, the critically acclaimed writer/artist of Beg The Question, Recess Pieces, Connective Tissue, and the well-received novel Bottomfeeder, depicts himself and his wife as equals and best friends. Michele is as adept at kicking zombie ass as she was at wielding her blackberry in her pre-apocalypse career, and Fingerman's love for her (and for cartooning) radiates from every page.

From the Ashes boasts an introduction by comedian Marc Maron (of the popular podcast WTF) as well as over 25 pages of additional material not in the original issues.

From the Ashes ($19.99, 176 pages) will be available in stores on February 10, 2010. ISBN 978-1600106002.

About Bob Fingerman

Native New Yorker Bob Fingerman is the award-winning creator of such critically acclaimed graphic novels as Beg the Question, White Like She and Recess Pieces, as well as the novel Bottomfeeder. In Bottomfeeder, Fingerman took on the vampire genre, tossing away the typical gothic and romantic trappings in favor of portraying the down to earth story of a working class Queens-bred vampire. In Recess Pieces he whipped up a bloody maelstrom of adorable moppets and the undead set within the confines of their school. In the uneasy romantic roman à clef Beg the Question he presented anxious young love in the streets of Brooklyn long before gentrification. In his eighth graphic novel, From the Ashes, Fingerman continues his love affair with New York in his most personal work to date. Fingerman also just sold his latest novel, Pariah, to Tor (Tom Doherty Associates Books) for a Summer 2010 release.

Cobra Commander Revealed in New IDW Comic

G.I. JOE master villian makes first IDW comics appearance in new series

San Diego, CA (January 21, 2010) – IDW takes the COBRA story to the next level in the new G.I. JOE: COBRA II series, debuting in stores on January 27th. Under license by Hasbro, G.I. JOE: COBRA II continues the danger and suspense of the acclaimed G.I. JOE: COBRA series, as the G.I. JOE team penetrates the evil COBRA organization and eventually comes face to face with COBRA COMMANDER himself.

Following what IGN.com called "an instant classic," G.I. JOE: COBRA II offers the next step in the G.I. JOE team's infiltration of COBRA, as they try to rescue CHUCKLES, one of their own sent in undercover.

"We've been building the COBRA organization up over the first year and a half of G.I. JOE stories and the COBRA book was a huge part of that," said Andy Schmidt, IDW Publishing's G.I. JOE editor. "We're looking forward to revealing COBRA COMMANDER here first. But how and when he appears will surprise readers. His updated look may not be the only difference..."

With COBRA COMMANDER appearing later in the series, G.I. JOE: COBRA II is poised to dig deep into the COBRA mythos and reveal not just COBRA COMMANDER, but several other as-of-yet-unseen villians. The G.I. JOE team may have been kicked around by COBRA already, but they haven't seen anything yet!

Writers Mike Costa and Christos N. Gage craft this exciting new series, skillfully building the suspense as the G.I. JOE team gets closer to COBRA COMMANDER. The masterful art of Antonio Fuso gives new layers to the subtle yet undeniable divide that fans have witnessed within COBRA, highlighted in the celebrated G.I. JOE: COBRA Special #1. Covers will be provided by both Fuso and the great Howard Chaykin.

Furthering the series that was named the third best graphic novel of the year by iFanboy.com and the best single issue of the year by MTV Splash Page, G.I. JOE: COBRA II continues to blend succinct storytelling with innovative visuals. Raves io9.com, "If you're looking for the latest smart, inventive reboot, the place to look . . . is G.I. JOE: COBRA."

G.I JOE: COBRA II #1 ($3.99, 32 pages) debuts on January 27, 2010. Diamond order code: NOV09 0809.

10th MUSE TO THE POWER OF TEN (YEARS) UNVEILS NEW PROJECTS

In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the first publication of “10th Muse,” the independent comic book of a lawyer imbued with the essence of the Greek mythological goddess of justice, Bluewater Productions is planning several new projects starting with the February release of the graphic novel 10th Muse: Crossovers.

“You never forget your first love,” said Bluewater president and series creator Darren G. Davis. “10th Muse put us on the map and I've been waiting for the right time to bring her back.”

10th Muse debuted in February 2000 through Image Comics and soon rocketed to #6 on Diamond’s Top 100 beating out several well-known and established titles. The issue featured a story by revered comic book veteran Marv Wolfman.

10th Muse: Crossovers, in stores next month, features several team ups with other well-known characters from the comic world including Shi, Savage Dragon, Tellos, Ezra, Legend of Isis and Judo Girl. Also included is a never-before-seen crossover with Indie favorite Koni Wave.

A virtual who’s-who of top comic talent is included in the book including Billy Tucci, Erik Larsen, Marv Wolfman, Roger Cruz and Mike Wieringo.

In June, Bluewater will be releasing the "10th Muse Cover Gallery" featuring the artwork of Randy Green, Andy Park, Mike Wieringo, Stephen Platt and Roger Cruz.

“Fans have been asking for a while when we plan on bringing 10th Muse back. I always planned for her to return. Now that Bluewater is a fully established publisher and not just the title’s creator, we have more control over operational issues. I wanted to commit to her long term, not just a series of one-shots and special appearances,” Davis said.

Later this year Bluewater plans for the 10th Muse to return as an ongoing monthly series.

“We’ve got a lot of great ideas brewing, but I want the series to recapture the flavor of the original run. It won’t be a series reboot or a continuation with another character as the Muse,” Davis noted. “I want Emma Sonnet fighting bad guys in the courtroom and her alter ego taking on the likes of Aries, Hera and other ne’r-do-wells on Olympus.”

Also planned for later this year are two other high profile projects including a mini-series 10th Muse: The Lost Issues. According to Davis, there were several issues never before published that were, at the time, unusable because of the continuity issues with the hero’s design. These issues were written by Wolfman and Davis and drawn by Roger Cruz and Clint Hillinski.

Another mini-series that continues the crossover tradition, much like DC's popular "Brave and the Bold," will feature 10th Muse in new team-ups with characters from the indie world like Bomb Queen (Image Comics), Demon Slayer, Badger, and others.

The suggested retail price (SRP) for the upcoming Crossovers trade paperback is $17.99. Pre-ordering is currently available at several outlets and bookstores using the ISBN #: 978-1-61623-926-8.

"10th Muse" has been optioned by Castle Bright Studios who has a deal with Universal Pictures.
THE WALKING DEAD MARCH ON AMC
"Madmen" and "Breaking Bad" Network Greenlights Walking Dead Pilot

BERKELEY, CA -- 20 January, 2010 -- Variety reported today that Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's ongoing tale of survival horror in a post-apocalyptic world, THE WALKING DEAD, has been greenlit as a pilot by AMC.

"THE WALKING DEAD's road to the small screen has been a long one, but so far it's looking like the best of all worlds," creator and writer Robert Kirkman said. "Given AMC's track record with shows like 'Madmen' and 'Breaking Bad,' combined with Frank Darabont writing and directing, I couldn't possibly be more excited for this to come together. Having the pilot greenlit is a huge leap forward to this becoming a reality."

THE WALKING DEAD has been published by Image Comics since 2003, with the series' 69th issue due in stores next week. Current plans are for the AMC series to closely adapt the storylines presented in the monthly comics.

In addition to the ongoing com ics series, there are 11 trade paperbacks currently in print, collecting issues 1-66, along with a series of five hardcovers covering #1-60. The first 48 issues have also been collected in two limited edition slipcased hardcovers and a softcover compendium. Across are formats the series remains a sales juggernaut with the title charting on the New York Times' graphic novels bestsellers list numerous times.

"Since its debut in October 2003, THE WALKING DEAD has been nothing short of unstoppable," said Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson. "Over the last five years, sales on both the single issues and the trade paperback and hardcover collections have gone from strength to strength, so it's no surprise that THE WALKING DEAD is now poised for success on TV. Everyone at Image is very excited to see this project come to light."

THE WALKING DEAD #69, a 32-page black and white comic priced at $2.99, will be on sale at finer comic book stores everywhere January 27.

Palmiotti, Gray and Caracuzzo Create Debut Splatterman Graphic Novella in April

"Every creator can tell you their best characters take on a life of their own, and SPLATTERMAN shows how it can happen in the most frightening of ways," Palmiotti explained. "SPLATTERMAN is definitely a worst case situation of life imitating art and we're lucky enough to have an illustrator like Giancarlo who can combine a setting everyone can relate to with a twist everyone can fear."

SPLATTERMAN is the blood soaked story of two comic creators and their ultimate horror character creation gone very bad. After receiving the publishing deal they've long sought after, they soon find a strong enough imagination can be twisted for chilling purposes. ERIC POWELL’S EISNER-WINNING THE GOON RETURNS IN 2010!

THE GOON ARRIVES ON THE iPHONE THIS WEEK AND IS BACK IN PRINT

WITH THE ALL-NEW BUZZARD MINISERIES THIS SUMMER

JANUARY 20, MILWAUKIE, OR—Fans and critics alike rejoiced in 2008, when creator Eric Powell took his redneck zombie noir, The Goon, monthly for an entire calendar year. Following the release of the landmark graphic novel Chinatown and the Mystery of Mr. Wicker, Powell laid out his most complex story line to date, spanning twelve issues. In 2009, the creator celebrated the tenth anniversary of the title, releasing a special anniversary issue to coincide with a burlesque anniversary party in his honor in Nashville, followed by a special all-silent issue in November. While both were strong standalone issues, the significantly lighter release schedule left fans wondering what’s next for the madcap mercenary.

Now, The Goon goes digital, as both Chinatown and the Mystery of Mr. Wicker and The Goon #7, which features Hellboy, are made available on the iPhone platform. Chinatown marks Powell’s first self-contained graphic novel, which chronicles the earliest adventures of Goon and his wisecracking sidekick, Franky. After a new figure in the crime scene begins taking out the Goon’s business operations one by one, the Goon’s darkest moment comes back to haunt him, when his mind and body were left scarred . . . and his heart was left black. This new platform promises to expose an all-new readership to comics’ most beloved brute.

Not to worry, however: longtime fans will be rewarded with an all-new spinoff title based around Goon Year’s most notable character, Buzzard. Eric Powell gives one of his most beloved and mysterious characters his own highly anticipated, three-issue miniseries.

Following his brutal showdown with the loathsome Zombie Priest, Buzzard leaves his home, wandering aimlessly until he steps into the shadowy spirit realm of the forest. A dark path leads him to a small village living in fear of a bestial race of savages. More animal than man, these creatures hunt the villagers and drag them from their slumber in the depth of night.

“Buzzard has always been a personal favorite of mine from the Goon cast, and from the amount of requests I’ve gotten to give him his own series, I imagine he’s a favorite of the readers as well,” said Goon creator Eric Powell. “I’m really excited to finally be giving him his own story, along with the revival of Billy the Kid’s Old Timey Oddities!”

For those who missed Goon Year, Dark Horse will be giving this twelve-issue story line the deluxe treatment with the release of Fancy Pants Edition Volume 3: Goon Year on July seventh. Powell’s all-new Buzzard series will arrive on shelves later this fall.

Look for news forthcoming on the return of the Billy the Kid’s Old Timey Oddities short stories—a revival of the series from 2005 that paired Eric Powell with artist Kyle Hotz. The three-issue series will launch later this year.

Chinatown and the Mystery of Mr. Wicker is available for download today in the iTunes store. For a limited time, this heart-wrenching story is available for the sale price of 1.99. In addition, the celebrated one-shot The Goon #7 is available for free download for the next three days.

The all-new image will adorn the third issue of the six-issue miniseries by Image's founders and will be available both in color and in black and white.

"Between this cover and the recently completed DARKNESS/PITT miniseries, it's a great time for fans of Dale's artwork, and we're all thrilled to have him involved."

Dale Keown's cover features the Image heroes facing off against the IMAGE UNITED's Big Bad, Omega Spawn, both as a nod to the opening pages of series' first issue and as precursor of things to come. Retailers can order as many copies of the color version as they like, but there will also be a limited edition 1:100 version of the cover in pristine black and white, available to qualifying accounts.

IMAGE UNITED #3, a 32-page full color comic book with a cover price of $3.99, will be in-stores February 24.
