new partnership between Lexus and Marvel in conjunction with the Black Panther movie.

SAN DIEGO (July 18, 2017) — Today, on the brink of the opening of Comic-Con International: San Diego, Lexus and Marvel have announced a collaboration to pair the first-ever 2018 Lexus LC with Marvel’s dynamic Black Panther character in the highly anticipated film, Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, slated to hit theaters on Feb. 16, 2018.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, and starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong’o, the film follows T’Challa, who, after the events of Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King.

“Marvel continuously captures audiences through charismatic characters and inspiring stories — the ideal fit for Lexus’ mission to craft amazing, engaging experiences,” said Brian Bolain general manager, Lexus marketing. “And the LC’s aggressive styling, high performance and agile handling are a perfect fit for the Black Panther’s quick, cat-like reflexes and superhuman feats. We’re excited to see the duo in action.”

To accompany the collaboration between Lexus and Marvel, Lexus also teamed with Marvel Custom Solutions to create an original graphic novel, with storytelling driven by famed writer Fabian Nicieza and cover illustrations by emerging graphic artists Scott “Rahzzah” Wilson and Szymon Kudranski. Centered around the balance between human and machine, the comic features the Lexus LC 500 with a new, Wakandan spin and its role in helping the Black Panther defeat a legendary villain.

Lexus and Marvel will celebrate their collaboration during Comic-Con after-hours at an exclusive Black Panther-themed event on Friday, July 21,  with special performances by DJ Lulo Café and a surprise headliner. During the invite-only event, six variant covers for the graphic novel will be revealed to industry guests and comic enthusiasts.

“This campaign clicked from the get-go,” said Mindy Hamilton, Marvel’s SVP of global partnerships. “We have this bold, sophisticated hero stepping into the spotlight for the first time, and it’s been a blast to work with the Lexus team to build out a story that’ll familiarize fans with T’Challa as well as his advanced home nation of Wakanda.”

Lexus’ collaboration with Marvel is being coordinated by Lexus’ multicultural advertising agency, Walton Isaacson.
THE PORT OF EARTH OPENS FOR BUSINESS THIS FALL
All-new sci-fi series from ECLIPSE creator Zack Kaplan

PORTLAND, OR, 07/24/2017 — Fan-favorite writer Zack Kaplan (ECLIPSE) teams up with all-star artist Andrea Mutti (Rebels, Prometheus) for a gritty new science fiction series, PORT OF EARTH, coming this November from Image Comics and Top Cow Productions.

Aliens have come to Earth, not in war or peace, but with a business deal: open up a spaceport here on Earth in exchange for advanced technology. But when our alien visitors break Port restrictions and wreak havoc in our cities, it falls to the newly formed Earth Security Agency to hunt down and safely deport the dangerous rogue aliens back to the Port of Earth.

“After exploring the solar apocalypse in ECLIPSE—which was just announced to be in development for TV, but more on that later—I’m thrilled to be tackling a very unique alien arrival story with another amazing creative team!” said Kaplan.

“My passion for sci-fi is very ancient, beginning when I was really young with Star Wars, Star Trek, Galactica, Space 1999, UFO, Alien, and dozens of other books and comics,” said Mutti. “I was like a black hole, reading and watching everything with aliens or spaceships with a sense of wonder at the unknown in the deep universe and all of its stars and planets…it’s amazing! I’m thrilled to be on PORT OF EARTH, such a cool project, full of great visuals, action, and an emotional touch; what else could a comic artist need?”

PORT OF EARTH #1 is set to launch this November.

“A delightful mix of American folk fantasy and action.” —Uproxx

PORTLAND, OR, 07/24/2017 — Eisner-nominated cartoonist and hobo enthusiast Kyle Starks (SEXCASTLE, Rick and Morty) will release the first trade paperback collection of his ongoing action-comedy series ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN this September.

Come along and ride the rails with the mysterious unbeatable hobo Jackson, and his newbie sidekick Pomona Slim, on his quest to find the mythical hobo heaven. But watch out for the Devil! And the FBI! And the Hobo Mafia too! It's a fantastical fisticuff frolic through post-World War II America via the rails and backroads, through underground fight clubs, prison, and the hobo jungles wrought with dangers, hobo fights, jokes, and locomotive excitement.

ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN VOL. 1 (Diamond code: JUL170755, ISBN: 978-1-5343-0317-1) hits comic book stores Wednesday, September 27th and bookstores Tuesday, October 3rd. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, August 7th.

Select praise for ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN:

“This book is so good that even the sound effects have literary merit.” —Matt Kindt (Dept. H, MIND MGMT)

“Every aspect of this comic is a blast, from the kinetic visuals to the comedically testosterone-fueled dialogue.” —Paste Magazine

“How many of us have thought ‘Man, I wish O Brother, Where Art Thou? had more hobo death matches!’? Well, Kyle Starks didn't just think. He got off his ass and made that magic happen!  ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN, y'all. You can thank him later.” —Jason Latour (SOUTHERN BASTARDS, Spider-Gwen, LOOSE ENDS)

“ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN’s unique combination of sympathy, humor, and unadulterated weirdness is not to be missed.” —Comics Verse

“With a striking aesthetic and a heady blend of humour and action, ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN provides a hobo-themed love letter to the classic martial arts movies of old, and given Starks’ impressive pedigree as a creator, this should be viewed as a pretty much essential purchase.” —Big Comic Page

“Ever since I was a boy, I've dreamed of riding the rails, hobo style. But I was just too damn scared. Kyle's ROCK CANDY MOUNTAIN brings me the excitement and danger of boxcar vagrancy with none of the unpleasant associated odors.” —John Allison (Giant Days, Bad Machinery, International Treasure)
