by Zub and Cummings revealed
Writer Jim Zub (SKULLKICKERS, Samurai Jack), penciler Steve Cummings (Legends of the Dark Knight, Deadshot), and color artist John Rauch (INVINCIBLE) team up to create a rich and vibrant Tokyo in WAYWARD. However, this Tokyo just so happens to be filled with monsters of myth and legend laying in wait for one Rori Lane's arrival.

Rori’s a misfit teen who travels halfway across the world from Ireland to make a new home in Japan with her mother. From the get-go there are some cultural adjustments to be made and Rori feels like a fish out of water—but things take a turn for the weird when she begins glimpsing things, creatures, that no one else can see.

CHEW: WARRIOR CHICKEN POYO
GOBBLED UP BY FANS
Readers devoured the SDCC exclusives
and were shocked by the ending

John Layman and Rob Guillory’s new CHEW spinoff one-shot WARRIOR CHICKEN POYO boasted a foil exclusive at San Diego Comic-Con last week and fans of CHEW flocked to the booth for the issue. WARRIOR CHICKEN POYO’s ending shocked long-time CHEW fans and pulled in new readers with fun pop culture references. The issue has sold out and has a second printing with a new cover by Rob Guillory already in flight.

In this issue, the heroic, world-saving warrior chicken Poyo is plucked from the world of CHEW and dropped into the magical kingdom of Yoek, a land that is home to characters that are strikingly similar to classic fantasy literature. Unfortunately, Yoek is also newly plagued with an evil Groceryomancer bent on destroying the kingdom with, well, angry sword-wielding, asparagus-spear-throwing vegetables, fruits, tubers, and legumes. The fate of the kingdom rests on the brave and noble warrior chicken Poyo’s shoulders.

"Poyo is the ultimate bad-ass, and so is everybody who picked up the first printing of Warrior Chicken Poyo,” said Layman. “But, in an effort to make the world less pathetic and lame, we're giving even more people a chance to prove their supreme awesomeness with an opportunity to pick up what's probably the best comic book in the entire history of mankind, if not the universe!"

CHEW: WARRIOR CHICKEN POYO has completely sold out at the distributor level, but may still be available in comic stores. It is currently available digitally on the Image Comics website (imagecomics.com) and the official Image Comics iOS app, as well as on Comixology on the web (comixology.com), iOS, Android, and Google Play.

Image Comics is pleased to announce that this issue will be going back to print to meet customer demand. The second printing of CHEW: WARRIOR CHICKEN POYO (Diamond Code JUN148317) lands in stores on 8/27.

THE HORRORS OF WORLD WAR I IN WHITE DEATH

Original graphic novel by Robbie Morrison and Charlie Adlard in September

“On a sunlit day in September 2013, 500 people attended a double funeral in the small alpine ski resort village of Peio, northern Italy. The bodies were those of two Austrian males, aged 17 and 18 years old. They weren’t, however, holiday-makers who had fallen victim to a tragic ski accident. Both had bullet-holes in their skulls and had been frozen in the snow and ice of the Presana glacier for almost 100 years. They were First World War soldiers who had fought in a relatively obscure part of that conflict, now known as the White War.” –From the introduction to WHITE DEATH
Image Comics is pleased to announce the September release of WHITE DEATH, a hardcover graphic novel by Robbie Morrison (2000 AD) and Charlie Adlard (THE WALKING DEAD). Set in the Trentino mountain range, WHITE DEATH follows Pietro Aquasanta, who, as a rifleman in the Italian army, returns to what was a realm of wonder adventure in his childhood during World War I, but has now become a sterile world of death and despair.
“‘White Death’ is a slang term used to describe avalanches in French and Italian Alpine regions,” wrote Morrison in his introduction, “and in my head, the avalanche became a metaphor for war — a terrifying, irresistible force that remorselessly consumes and destroys everything in its path.”

Heightening the tone of isolation and destruction is Adlard’s art — smudged and scratchy black charcoal and white chalk on a stark gray background that depicts the horrors of trench warfare and hand-to-hand combat. WHITE DEATH pre-dates Adlard’s arrival on the comics phenomenon THE WALKING DEAD, but his work on it informed the direction of his career.
“I could do my OWN thing,” Adlard wrote in his introduction. “This, to me at the time, was a revelation. I hadn't been aware very much of the concept of creator-owned comics and, yet, here I was, doing just that. White Death eventually formulated my world view and opinions on where I wanted my career to go after this.”
WHITE DEATH is a 104-page black-and-white hardcover graphic novel. It will be in comic book stores on September 3 and bookstores on September 16.

LOW REACHES NEW DEPTHS
The first issue of Remender and Tocchini’s new series sells out, stunning artwork for issue #2 revealed

Rick Remender (BLACK SCIENCE, DEADLY CLASS) and artist Greg Tocchini (Uncanny X-Force, Last Days of American Crime) dive deeper into their underwater dystopian environment in LOW, with schools of absorbed fans of the new series following close behind. In order to quench the thirst for more LOW, we are pleased to reveal early artwork from issue #2.

In issue #2, the underwater city of Salus, humanity's last refuge, is in jeopardy of running out of air. Police Inspector Marik Caine has sunk low into that haze; should an opportunity for hope present itself, can he rise again?

"It's a pleasure to work with Greg again, but to also see the incredible sales and fan reaction is icing on the cake,” said Remender. “We have years worth of stories to tell in this world and the reader response secures our ability to realize them."

The Awesome Fest Presents: Bruce Campbell’s Horror Film Festival
2014 Program

Feature Presentations:
ZOMBEAVERS
Chicago Premiere
(Director: Jordan Rubin, Writers: Jordan Rubin, Al Kaplan, Jon Kaplan)
An action-packed horror/comedy in which a group of college kids staying at a riverside cabin are menaced by a swarm of deadly zombie beavers.Yes, really. That’s the plot!

KILLERS
Chicago Premiere
(Directors: The Mo Brothers, Writers: Takuji Ushiyama, Timo Tjahjanto) A dark look into the minds of two men with nothing in common: Nomura, a self-obsessed serial killer residing in Tokyo and Bayu, a failing journalist who lives in Jakarta. Connected through a series violent incidents, both men inexplicably start to feed off each other. (Not literally). Co-directors “The Mo Brothers” (Macabre, V/H/S/2) deliver an epic tale that works as action, suspense, and disturbing horror at the same time..

ASMODEXIA
North American Premiere
(Director: Marc Carrete, Writers: Marc Carrete, Mike Hostench) Written by Mike Hostench (Deputy Director of Sitges Film Festival), Asmodexia documents five days in the lives of an exorcist and his granddaughter working in the Barcelona area. If you think you’ve seen every exorcism angle imaginable, prepare to be surprised. And a little grossed out.

SUBURBAN GOTHIC U.S. Premiere (Director: Richard Bates Jr., Writers: Richard Bates Jr., Mark Bruner) Raymond can channel the paranormal, but he’s afraid of chatting with a cute girl.. Kicked out of his big city apartment, Raymond returns home to his overbearing mother, ex-jock father, and beer-bellied classmates. But when a vengeful ghost terrorizes the small town, Ray recruits Becca, a badass local bartender, to help solve the mystery. From the director of the admirably strange Excision, and starring Matthew Gray Gubler, Ray Wise, and Kat Dennings.

STARRY EYES Chicago Premiere (Director: Kevin Kolsch, Dennis Widmyer, Writers: Kevin Kolsch, Dennis Widmyer) A hopeful young starlet uncovers the ominous origins of the Hollywood elite and enters into a deadly agreement in exchange for fame and fortune. From the producer of Cheap Thrills and Jodorowsky’s Dune, Dennis Widmyer & Kevin Kolsch’s Starry Eyes is an occult tale of ambition, possession, and the true cost of fame. Leading lady Alex Essoe is an absolute revelation, but there’s a lot for horror fans to get behind here.

EXTRATERRESTRIAL Chicago Premiere (Director: The Vicious Brothers, Writers: The Vicious Brothers) A group of friends on a weekend trip to a cabin in the woods find themselves terrorized by alien visitors, who promptly chase everyone all over the place. So it’s a slasher movie, a suspense thriller, and a pretty gruesome alien abduction tale all at once. Plus it’s got some solid humor and an amazing final shot. From the directors of the found footage horror flick Grave Encounters. Oh, also Michael Ironside pops up!

DEAD SNOW 2: RED VS. DEAD (Director: Tommy Wirkola, Writers: Stig Frode Henriksen, Vegar Hoel, Tommy Wirkola)
If the worst day of your life consisted of accidentally killing your girlfriend with an axe, chain-sawing your own arm off, and watching in horror as your closest friends were devoured by a zombified Nazi battalion, you'd have to assume that things couldn't get much worse. In Martin's case, that was only the beginning. From the director of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and (of course) Dead Snow.

CYBERNATURAL
Special Screening
(Director: Levan Gabriadze, Writer: Nelson Greaves)
While video chatting one night, six high school friends receive a Skype message from a classmate who killed herself exactly one year ago. A first they think it's a prank, but when the girl starts revealing the friends' darkest secrets, they realize they are dealing with something out of this world, something that wants them dead. Told entirely from a young girl's computer desktop, Cybernatural redefines 'found footage' for a new generation of teens. From producer Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch, Wanted).

INNER DEMONS
Chicago Premiere
(Director: Seth Grossman, Writer: Glenn Gers)
Inner Demons follows an 'Intervention'-style reality show crew that films an episode about a sixteen-year old girl, a former A-student, who is fighting addiction but may in fact be suffering from something even more destructive: demonic possession. Director Seth Grossman was a producer on A&E’s award winning series “Intervention,” which certainly lends an air of authenticity to a gradually more unpredictable horror story.

MEET ME THERE
Chicago Premiere
(Director: Lex Lybrand, Writer: Brandon Stroud)
After several years of sexual dysfunction, Ada and her boyfriend, Calvin travel to her hometown in rural Oklahoma in the hopes of piecing together her fragmented childhood memories. They find their answers, but can they find their way back home? Starring WWE’s Goldust & DC Comic’s Jill Thompson.

Interactive Panels:

DESTINATION AMERICA EXPLORES THE SCARIEST PLACES IN THE COUNTRY IN
ALL-NEW SERIES “SWAMP MONSTERS” AND “MONSTERS UNDERGROUND”

(Silver Spring, Md.) Across the American wilderness, millions of acres of uncharted swamplands and underground lairs are rumored to be inhabited by unidentified monsters. Generations of speculation have piqued the curiosity of nearby communities and monster enthusiasts alike, but none have come close to solving the mystery of what these elusive creatures are… until now. Destination America hunts for the truth in the new three-part series SWAMP MONSTERS, premiering Friday, August 22 at 9/8c, followed by back-to-back premiere episodes of the new six-part series MONSTERS UNDERGROUND at 10/9c and 10:30/9:30c.

First, deep in the heart of Louisiana’s bayou, upwards of 100 people go missing each year and, if you ask locals, many will say SWAMP MONSTERS got ‘em. Elliot Guidry and his Cajun crew have made it their mission to track down, identify, and eliminate the threat posed by legendary, deadly monsters like the Cajun werewolf. Then in MONSTERS UNDERGROUND, Bill Brock and his team are hell-bent on proving the existence of monsters living beneath the earth’s surface. During their underground investigations, one wrong move could turn the cave into their tomb. But the most dangerous threat of all is the pitch-black darkness and the risk of coming face to face with a cave creature – such as the shape-shifting Aswang or the bat-like Olitiau – and not seeing it until it’s too late.

“America’s swamps and caves are inherently terrifying places with real-life dangers like quicksand, gators, disorienting darkness, and claustrophobic passageways with only one way out – not to mention monsters,” said Marc Etkind, general manager of Destination America. “These hostile conditions ward off every-day visitors, but the time has come for a few good men to brave the elements and stand up against these SWAMP MONSTERS and MONSTERS UNDERGROUND. No one but Elliot, Brock, and their teams of expert trackers, trappers, and hardcore outdoorsmen is better suited to accept the mission.”

SWAMP MONSTERS investigates Cajun creatures that thrive in the muck and mud of Louisiana’s bayou, where residents have been reporting mysterious encounters for 100 years. Risking life and limb, a bayou-born-and-bred band of investigators who call themselves the Bayou Enforcement Agency for Supernatural Threats (BEAST), are ready for battle against these marshy monsters. Their team leader, Elliot Guidry, is a hunting and fishing guide who has seen the signs of deadly bayou creatures but has never been close enough to take a shot. Now, he’s ready to take back the swamp with the help of his life-long friends: a weapons and tactics aficionado, an expert tracker, and a water navigator who also serves as the team researcher.

Episodes include:
  • The Grunch premieres Friday, August 22 at 9/8c
In the mystical lagoons, marshes and swamps of Louisiana’s bayou, Elliot Guidry and his team of BEAST (the Bayou Enforcement Agency on Supernatural Threats) battle the elements while tracking down a pack of the infamous Grunch. Born of the Devil himself, the Grunch have been terrorizing Louisiana residents for centuries. These skin and bones, dog-like creatures have ridged backs, stand three feet tall and emit a horrible screech. After following these monsters into the middle of the swamp, BEAST realizes that the hunter has become the hunted as they’re surrounded by a hungry pack of Grunch.
  • The remaining two episodes feature the Honey Island Swamp Monster and the Cajun Werewolf.

In MONSTERS UNDERGROUND, a military survivalist, a trained biologist, a reclusive hunter-tracker, and a hulking pro fighter are on the case to investigate deadly monsters living in the most inaccessible environments on earth: underground caves, caverns, and mines. There, they seek out legendary creatures that thrive in the cold, damp darkness beneath our feet. For thousands of years, myth and folklore have warned of beasts that prowl the underworld. Now, Bill Brock and his team dare to trespass on their realm for the sake of discovering the truth, putting their lives on the line to venture deep under the earth’s surface where natural elements can be as dangerous as the monsters themselves.

Episodes include:
  • Volcano Cavern Olitiau premieres Friday, August 22 at 10/9c
In the maze that is Volcano Caverns in Flagstaff, Ariz., Bill Brock and his team believe that a giant, deadly reptilian bat creature known as the Olitiau, or “cave demon” has made this cave its home. One of the attributes of this blood-sucking creature is that it can sense fear in its prey. As the team explores the labyrinth of tunnels, sounds of the creature get closer and closer. The team gathers where they last heard the creature and wait. As a heat signature begins to appear on their thermal camera, their night vision dies, leaving them blind and vulnerable to becoming the Olitiau’s next victims.
  • Graveyard Gulch Mapinguari premieres Friday, August 22 at 10:30/9:30c
Something has been feeding on Northern California’s black bear population, and Bill Brock’s team of monster hunters suspects the culprit is the Mapinguari, a descendant of the giant prehistoric sloth. Evidence leads them to Graveyard Gulch, an isolated cave that’s treacherous because of what might be living there but also due to extremely narrow passageways and slippery surfaces that lead to deadly drop-offs. Following the stench of the Mapinguari, the team sets their trap deep underground. As they wait in the dark, Brock’s thermal camera picks up an image while something unexpected and deadly prepares to strike.
  • Remaining episodes feature the Rake (The Grand Canyon – Peach Springs, Ariz.), the Aswang (Apache Death Cave – Two Guns, Ariz.), the Subterralien (Shadow Mine – Calaveras County, Calif.), and the Draco (Cross Creek Cavern – Angels Camp, Calif.).
