Super hot writing duo Abnett and Lanning will pick up and run with Cornell’s ongoing ideas and also inject plenty of their own.

“It was a lifelong ambition come true to work with Stan Lee, and I couldn't be happier that such talented writers as Dan and Andy will be taking over from me on SOLDIER ZERO,” said Paul Cornell.

“Paul’s simply a splendid fellow,” said Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. “We are delighted to be following in his footsteps on STAN LEE’S SOLDIER ZERO. Paul generously shared his plans and ideas for where he saw the story going, and they are, as you might expect, far too good not to keep, but we’re also bringing lots of new stuff into the mix. SOLDIER ZERO fans will not be disappointed!”

Superstar fan-favorite writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning have collaborated on such bestselling titles like THE AUTHORITY for Wildstorm as well as the recent smash-hit IRON MAN/THOR limited series and NOVA for Marvel.

STAN LEE’S SOLDIER ZERO tells the story of Stewart Trautmann, an Afghanistan war veteran turned university lecturer, who in a freak accident is fused with an alien weapon of war. Now he stands as Earth's first line of defense in an oncoming galactic conflict!

Debuting in October, STAN LEE'S SOLDIER ZERO marked the first of three new ongoing superhero series from BOOM! Studios and Stan Lee and quickly became BOOM!'s bestselling single issue of all time. MOBILE ENTERTAINMENT POISED FOR EXPLOSIVE GROWTH, INDUSTRY LEADERS PREDICT AT FIRST EVER LA MOBILE ENTERTAINMENT SUMMIT™

(Los Angeles, CA and Milford, CT; December 16, 2010) -- Mobile entertainment is poised for explosive growth, that was the clear message at last week's inaugural LA Mobile Entertainment Summit™, produced by The Bob Dowling Group and Unicomm and presented in association with Variety on December 7-8 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City, CA.

Offering an A-list roster of industry leaders, the summit included keynotes from Peter Guber, Chairman and CEO of Mandalay Entertainment; John Kosner, Senior Vice President & General Manager, ESPN Digital Media; Jeff Husvar, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Fox Sports Interactive; Tim Kring, Master Storyteller and Executive Producer of Heroes and Tim Kring’s “Conspiracy for Good,” and Brian Seth Hurst, CEO, Opportunity Management Company. The LA Mobile Entertainment Summit™ articulated the impact of content on the mobile industry and identified the opportunities and challenges ahead for this nascent, and potent, entertainment delivery format.

With over 400 top flight entertainment and mobile industry executives, technologists, business strategists, financial analysts, software developers, retail buyers, mobile enthusiasts, and media in attendance, the LA Mobile Entertainment Summit™ established itself as the go-to mobile entertainment conference in the country.

“The growth potential for mobile entertainment is enormous,” said Michael Cai, VP of Research at Interpret, LLC, in his introductory remarks delivered on the first day of the summit. Cai reminded the audience that even with the influx of multimedia and smartphones available to the US public, almost half of all cell phone owners (48%) still own basic, voice-centric phones.

"Entertainment on mobile has not even scratched the surface of what is possible," said Peter Guber in his keynote address, adding that "mobile phones are part of our human evolution. They create social cohesion. They allow us to connect with resources and with other people." Guber urged marketers to approach consumers as an audience -- "not just clients, customers or patrons."

According to Summit Co-Producer Bob Dowling, "Embedded radio, live sports streaming, full movies, TV episodes, news and utilitarian apps will ultimately drive consumer interest across the mobile entertainment landscape, but they aren't there yet ... navigating that bright future is what the LA Mobile Entertainment Summit™ is all about."

"As the market accelerates, the LA Mobile Entertainment Summit™ will lead the industry thought leaders through the landscape of opportunities and challenges as the industry's de facto event," said John Golicz, CEO of event organizer Unicomm. "We're pleased that the high level of networking we provided at the Summit will help facilitate eventual deal-making across the mobile ecosystem."

"Variety is excited to be a partner in the LA Mobile Entertainment Summit™," said Linda Buckley Bruno, Variety's Publishing Director. "We are always on the vanguard of change in the entertainment industry, helping navigate our readers through fast-moving developments that lead to industry-wide transformations."

ESPN's John Kosner shared an important statistic during his keynote address: in an average week 50% of ESPN mobile users do not visit ESPN's website, adding that 22% of ESPN mobile users prefer mobile to website ...because they can take it with them. "Our mission at ESPN is to surprise, excite and engage sports fans," said Kosner, explaining that a "Live, Local and Social" mandate drives the network's mobile strategy.

CORPSE BRIDE CO-DIRECTOR MIKE JOHNSON AT HELM OF VANGUARD’S

ANIMATED FILM OZ WARS

(Los Angeles, CA; December 15, 2010) – John Williams, President and CEO of Vanguard Films, announced today the company has signed Oscar™ and Annie Award-nominee Mike Johnson, co-director of Corpse Bride, to direct its CG/stop-motion hybrid feature film, Oz Wars.

"Mike Johnson is a spectacular director and one of the masters of stop-motion,” says Williams. “We all think Oz Wars is a wildly original and commercial project that will thrill and astonish audiences. Additionally, due to revolutionary new stop-motion software, Mike will be making this world-class quality film at an unprecedentedly economical cost point.”

Oz Wars, written by Rob Moreland (Space Chimps 1 & 2 and Vanguard's upcoming live action City of Dragons) and Athena Gam (Vanguard's recently announced Alien Rock Band), transforms the Oz narrative into a contemporary, freaky action-packed PG-13 audience pleaser, with Dorothy caught up in a whirlwind of warrior witches, black magic, martial arts and monsters.

"Oz Wars is an animated action-adventure story, but unlike most animated films, it’s not just for kids," Johnson says. "The Land of Oz will be re-imagined using stop-motion to create a world that's dark, slick, sexy, and dangerous. It’s long been a goal of mine to create a hard-hitting, grown-up action film using stop-motion animation. Oz Wars is my opportunity to do that.”

The announcement comes on the heels of an ambitious Vanguard production slate released at AFM which includes CG, live action and CG/live action hybrids. Vanguard recently announced an overall producing/directing deal with Kung Fu Panda co-director John Stevenson, whose first Vanguard directorial project will be Alien Rock Band, a live action/CGI hybrid, with musician Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) attached as a producer.

A veteran animator and director, Texas-native Mike Johnson won the British Animation Award and earned Oscar™ and Annie Award nominations (with co-director Tim Burton) for his feature film Corpse Bride. As an animator his credits include The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach and the Emmy Award-wining children's series Bump in The Night. Johnson's directing credits also include episodes of the Emmy Award-winning television series The P.J.'s, and the award-winning short The Devil Went Down To Georgia, which he also produced.

Mike Johnson was represented by WME on the deal.

King of the Monsters Returns!

All-new Godzilla® comic series debuts in March 2011,
bringing together huge monsters and giant creators

San Diego, CA (December 15, 2010) – IDW Publishing and Toho Co., Ltd. are excited to announce the return to comics for the biggest star in motion pictures! Kicking off in March, GODZILLA®: MONSTER WORLD offers fans the world over the first ongoing comic series in years. GODZILLA® will be joined by many other monsters throughout the series, including MOTHRA™, KING GHIDORAH™, RODAN™ and more that have never before been featured in an American comic book series alongside King of the Monsters™.

“Godzilla has been gone from comics for too long” said Yukio Kotaki of Toho. “And to have it return with other monsters is simply very exciting.”

Bringing these fearsome creatures back to comics is a larger-than-life creative team, led by co-writers Eric Powell (The Goon) and Tracy Marsh. Artist Phil Hester (Kevin Smith’s The Green Hornet) will capture every monster moment. The series will feature not one but two painted covers, offered on a 50/50 basis: Eric Powell will provide a gatefold wraparound cover featuring many beloved Toho monsters, and fan-favorite artist Alex Ross contributed an imposing image of Godzilla®. Powell has also painted a separate incentive cover to herald the debut issue’s launch.

“To be able to launch a Godzilla series that features many fan-favorite Toho monsters never before seen in comics is gratifying enough,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer. “But to do it with the guiding hand and brush of Eric Powell -- as perfectly suited a creator as I could’ve hoped to come aboard here – along with Hester, Marsh, and Ross, is about as monstrous a line-up as I could’ve ever hoped for. What’s more, this is just the first series to come in the line. The next one out of the gates features multiple Eisner-nominees and winners handling the creative, so we’re well and truly just getting started here.”

In GODZILLA®: MONSTER WORLD, a full-scale apocalypse is brewing. The monsters are a force of nature whose attacks can be no more predicted or rationalized than a lightning strike. There will be no clean-cut heroes with perfectly chiseled chins and capes billowing in the wind; only ordinary human beings struggling desperately to survive in a world gone mad.

With an impressive cast of monsters both old and new, IDW’s series will treat fans to both familiar themes and original takes on the pop culture legends that have stomped, smashed, and fought their way across movie screens for over four decades.

Adding to great creators and a monster story, IDW is also offering killer retailer specials for GODZILLA®: MONSTER WORLD #1, including a one-of-a-kind, hand-drawn Eric Powell sketch cover. Plus, retailers will be eligible for their very own cover – featuring Godzilla stomping their comic store.

GODZILLA: MONSTER WORLD #1 ($3.99, 32 pages, full color) will be available in comic stores in March 2011. Diamond order code JAN11 0463.

‘GROUNDBREAKING’ PAPERLESS ECO COMICS ANNOUNCED BY MOHAWK MEDIA

British publisher Mohawk Media has today announced Eco Comics, a range of environmentally-friendly, paperless comic books.

The first digital comic book from the Eco Comics range available now to download or view online is Heroic High, an adventure set on an island superhero community, written by Chris Bunting and drawn by Kit Wallis.

Editor Stuart Buckley says: “Paper used in the production of comic books can have a damaging effect on the environment, and paying perhaps the biggest price is the tiger, whose habitat this threatens.

“As for sustainable forestry, world-leading environmental organisations have criticised its weak regard for social and ecological issues.

“We believe these downloadable, paperless comics are groundbreaking, having been deliberately designed to have a minimal carbon footprint.

RECORD SETTING 200th ISSUE BECOMES COMICS' BEST VALUE IN YEARS
SPAWN hits the #200 mark with a double-sized issue for only $3.99!

Berkeley, CA - 15 December 2010 - SPAWN, already the best-selling independent comic of all time, celebrates the release of its 200th issue in January! What was once slated as a 27-page story has now ballooned into a staggering 53 pages of artwork. With double the story, the 200th issue benchmark is simply too large to contain. The book may be bigger, but the price remains the same -- only $3.99, making it the best value in recent comic book history.

SPAWN will celebrate its 200th issue in high fashion, with the return of series creator Todd McFarlane to the interior artwork. McFarlane has called up an all-star team of award-winning comics luminaries to help him make SPAWN #200 the best issue yet: Greg Capullo (HAUNT, THE CREECH), David Finch (CYBERFORCE, Batman), Jim Lee (All Star Batman and Robin, Batman: Hush), Rob Liefeld (YOUNGBLOOD, Deadpool), Marc Silvestri (THE DARKNESS, CYBERFORCE), Danny Miki (SPAWN, Avengers) and Ashley Wood (HELLSPAWN, Zombies vs. Robots) all contribute to this landmark issue!

Robert Kirkman -- creator of THE WALKING DEAD, the comic book on which the Golden Globe nominated TV series is based -- provides an origin story for Omega Spawn. But he doesn't just write the story -- he draws it, too!

Finally, new series artist Szymon Kudranski, who takes over art duties with issue 201, provides a stunning epilogue, giving fans a taste of what's to come in 2011!

"In 1992, Image Comics was formed, and a handful of new titles came out of the chute," says McFarlane. "Spawn was one of those titles. At that time, none of us thought any of the titles we were releasing would hit 200 issues. Yet here we stand, eighteen years later, with the 200th issue of Spawn."

McFarlane continues, "I'm glad to be joined on this book by some of the great creators in our industry -- Jim Lee, Robert Kirkman, Marc Silvestri, Rob Liefeld, Michael Golden, David Finch, Ashley Wood, Greg Capullo, Danny Miki, and FCO Plascencia. We look forward to giving you what I believe will be the best value comic you'll buy this year. Spawn #200 has now grown to over twice the size of the original, but the price remains the same."

"This marks only the second time an independent comic has reached the 200-issue mark," says Image Publisher Eric Stephenson. "Few ongoing series from any publisher have the longevity and permanence SPAWN has. Todd has made it into the record books once again, but more importantly, he has created a series that has an enduring place in the hearts and minds of fans all around the world. This milestone issue is a perfect example of why the series so richly deserves its accolades, and after seeing what the creative team has planned, I guarantee you, the best is yet to come."

In SPAWN #200, the most ruthless villain in the Spawn universe returns. Can Jim Downing survive a face-to-face confrontation? Downing will battle his most fearsome opponent yet and get answers from an astonishing source, as two fan-favorite characters make a glorious return in this double-sized issue.

SPAWN #200, a 56-page full-color comic book, celebrating 18 years of the hit independent series with an all-star lineup of comics creators, will be in stores January 5, 2011, for the obscenely low price of $3.99!

Further, 2011 will be a big year for SPAWN: New series artist Szymon Kudranski is already several issues ahead. Issues 201-205 will be coming out bi-weekly, to build on the momentum of the landmark 200th issue.

ELEPHANTMEN: MAN AND ELEPHANTMAN
A perfect jump-on issue!

Berkeley, CA - 14 December 2010 - SFX Magazine praises the world of ELEPHANTMEN, calling it "a future gone wrong made to look nightmarishly beautiful," and Comic Book Review Power Rankings says "ELEPHANTMEN is continually one of the most engaging and beautiful books on the stands." The critically praised series that Comic Book Resources calls "subtle, smart and succinct" is seeing a slew of new releases in 2011, particularly during March!

In March 2011, comics fans will get a special treat with ELEPHANTMEN: MAN AND ELEPHANTMAN #1, an INVINCIBLE RETURNS-style one-shot that will please current readers and garner new fans for the series. It's a perfect jump-on issue!

Readers will also get an advance sneak peek of MAN AND ELEPHANTMAN in Robert Kirkman's THE WALKING DEAD #82!

This stand-alone oversized issue from Image Comics, written by Richard Starkings and drawn by Axel Medellin, will feature variant covers by Starkings, Ian Churchill (MARINEMAN, Supergirl) and Ed McGuinness (Superman, Deadpool). It will also feature a special retailer incentive cover by the incomparable J. Scott Campbell (Danger Girl, Fairy Tale Fantasies), the first of triptych of covers that will continue with issues #31 and #32 of the ongoing series.

March 2011 also sees the release of ELEPHANTMEN, VOL. 4: QUESTIONABLE THINGS, a gorgeous hardcover that collects issues #24-30 and features art by Möritat (The Spirit), Medellin, and Marian Churchland (BEAST).

Starkings explains, "We just rounded out our fourth year of publication with Image Comics in 2010, so it's fitting that we move into 2011 with our fourth hardcover collection, featuring the first issues by our new regular artist, Mighty Axel Medellin. After contributing a page to our All Star 25th issue, his first complete issue was #27 and since then he's consistently blown me away with his versatility on each and every issue. He has been a fan of the series from the get-go, and it shows on every page; his work on MAN AND ELEPHANTMAN will make you lick every page -- and I still think I've barely scratched the surface of his abilities. I'm very happy to be starting our next story arc with Axel and a special number #1 issue!"

Adds Image Publisher Eric Stephenson, "Richard has a fantastic eye for talent, and after introducing the world to the stellar work of Möritat and Marian Churchland, he's found another winner in Axel Medellin. If you haven't been picking up ELEPHANTMEN before, now is definitely the time to get hooked on one of the most original and exciting series in comics!"

The Elephantmen are the survivors of genetic engineering experiments by a sinister organization that sought to create biological weapons of mass destruction. Freed and rehabilitated, the Elephantmen now live among the people they were designed to destroy, continually treated with suspicion and contempt except by a handful of trusted allies.

ELEPHANTMEN: MAN AND ELEPHANTMAN #1, a 40-page full-color comic book for $3.99, will be in stores March 30, 2011. ELEPHANTMEN, VOL. 4: QUESTIONABLE THINGS HC, a 312-page full-color graphic novel, will be in stores March 23, 2011. Both books can be ordered through the January issue of Previews.

Also out in early 2011: ELEPHANTMEN: WAR TOYS, VOL.2: ENEMY SPECIES OGN (January 26, $9.99, NOV100423), an all-new 104-page full-color graphic novel by Starkings and artist Boo Cook; and ELEPHANTMEN: COVER STORIES #1 (February 16, $5.99, DEC100455), a 64-page full-color collection of covers and sketches by Ladrönn and Boo Cook that features a flip cover by Cook.

THE KILL CORPS SENT TO HELL IN 2011
Metal Band Debuts Comic Book And Album

Berkeley, CA - 13 December 2010 - SoCal metal band The Kill Corps is set to unleash its powerful debut album on Virgin Records in the summer of 2011. In bloody juxtaposition, they will bring their incendiary music to comics with the release of THE KILL CORPS, a one-shot from Image Comics that will hit shelves in March 2011.

Inspired by the music of The Kill Corps, a seasoned team of comic pros is behind the book: Award-winning comics scribe JIM KRUEGER (Earth X, X-Men) pens the enthralling tale, while Eisner Award winner BEN TEMPLESMITH (CHOKER, 30 Days of Night) and Society of Illustrator Award winner DENNIS CALERO (Cowboys & Aliens, Legion of Superheroes) provide the art and cover.

Marking the first time a band and music will be unveiled within a comic, the book will see release in two formats. The 32-page version includes a download code for the band's first single, "Save Me." The expanded 48-page version includes a download code for the four-track self-titled EP ("Save Me," "Sticks and Stones," "Crash Burn Die," and "Cannibal Romance"), concept art, and bonus images from Templesmith and Calero.

The band's ferocious debut from Virgin/EMI delivers brain-crushing drumming and mind-numbing guitar riffage, providing the soundtrack to The Kill Corps' blood-soaked tales. The vicious story behind the comic is born from The Kill Corps' notorious live show experience and gut-punishing debut album. Calero adds, "The Kill Corps' music is a demon straight from hell, snuggling up against you, wanting to tell you a secret, then screaming in your ear."

THE KILL CORPS follows a team of mercenaries who unwillingly become the instruments of destruction in an evil deity's plot to dominate mankind. Transported to a war-torn Hell dimension, the team must fight their way through every brutal era in human history to gain their freedom and save humanity.

"I rarely get the opportunity to go as dark and crazy as I did on Kill Corps," explains Krueger. "If I were you, I would check this out with an extra pair of pants handy, ‘cause it'll scare the $#!+ out of you!"

THE KILL CORPS, a full-color one-shot from Image Comics, will be on shelves March 16, 2011, in two formats: a 32-page version for $2.99 that features a download code for the band's first single and a 48-page version for $5.99 that features a download code for the band's four-song EP.

The Kill Corps' single and self-titled four-song EP will also be available for purchase separately from the comic book beginning March 15, 2011, on iTunes, Amazon and all other DSPs.
