Barack Obama: The Comic Book Biography
Groundbreaking, fact-based graphic novel
includes acclaimed Presidential Material comics
In stores today
San Diego, CA (October 28, 2009) – In stores today, IDW Publishing is proud to offer Barack Obama: The Comic Book Biography, the only graphic novel telling the life story of our country's 44th president, from infancy through the first 100 days of his historic administration. Barack Obama: The Comic Book Biography features the smash hit Presidential Material: Barack Obama, which started a craze of Obama comic books when it launched in October of 2008. The new hardcover graphic novel also includes the follow-up series chronicling the heated presidential campaign through the inauguration, and goes on to detail the first 100 days of the Obama administration.
"Barack Obama proved change can happen," said IDW editor Scott Dunbier. "Now young people can discover how this man rose from humble beginnings to become the President of the United States. It's a compelling story and we're proud it has gotten so much positive attention."
In July of 2008, IDW announced the first comic book series about the historic 2008 presidential campaign. Presidential Material was a smash hit with both fans and critics, featuring the life stories of both then-Senator Obama and Senator John McCain. Demand for the Obama book was so strong that it went through five printings. As Geoff Boucher in The Los Angeles Times said: "I'm happy to report that the stories and art inside were far more compelling than I anticipated and that these short-form biographies... deliver savvy and nimble life stories for both candidates and mostly succeed in stripping away overt partisan spin, be it home-team puffery or us-versus-them venom. The books, while short (or maybe because they are short), are fairly ideal introductions to each candidate, especially for teen readers."
IDW followed Presidential Material with a two part series that covered the Democratic National Convention, Obama's historic victory in November, the Inauguration, and then the newly-elected president's first 100 days in office. Barack Obama: The Comic Book Biography collects all three stories, written by Jeff Mariotte with art by Tom Morgan. Award-winning artist J. Scott Campbell provides the cover.
Barack Obama: The Comic Book Biography (80 pages, $14.99) will be available in stores on October 28th. Diamond order code NOV09 0841; ISBN 978-1-60010-530-2.

FANTAGRAPHICS & EDITOR GREG SADOWSKI PARTNER ON SEVEN
NEW BOOK COLLECTIONS OF CLASSIC COMIC BOOK MATERIAL
Seattle, WA, Oct. 21, 2009 ---- Fantagraphics Books is proud to announce that it has struck a deal with comics historian and editor Greg Sadowski to produce seven new collections of classic comic book material for the Seattle publisher. Sadowski is a Harvey and Eisner Award-nominated editor who has previously overseen the publication of the acclaimed collections SUPERMEN: THE FIRST WAVE OF COMIC BOOK HEROES 1936-1941, as well as B. KRIGSTEIN and B. KRIGSTEIN COMICS. He is a former staff editor and designer for Fantagraphics Books and currently works freelance from his home on San Juan Island in Washington State’s Puget Sound.
"Greg has written one of the landmark cartoonist biographies (and only the first half yet!) with B. Krigstein, and the collections of comics from the '40s and '50s that he's edited for us — B. Krigstein Comics and Supermen!, to date— have been meticulously assembled, with an eye toward selection, flow, and accompanying historical text. We're pleased that he's got such an ambitious agenda ahead,” says Fantagraphics Publisher Gary Groth, who acquired the books.
The books will be released one per season, beginning with FOUR COLOR FEAR: FORGOTTEN HORROR COMICS OF THE 1950s in June 2010 and produced in collaboration with comics historian John Benson (SQUA TRONT). The second book, due in Fall 2010, will be a collection of legendary artist Alex Toth’s work for Standard Comics in the 1950s. The remaining five books will be release in subsequent seasons, with exact schedules to be announced. The full list of books follows below.
FOUR COLOR FEAR: Forgotten Horror Comics of the 1950s
RELEASE DATE: June 2010
This full-color 304-page edition collects the finest horror comics of the pre-code era (1950-54). EC is the company that most fans associate with horror, but to the average reader there remain unseen a tremendous volume of genuinely disturbing, compulsive, and imaginative stories from publishers such as Ajax-Farrell, Atlas, Charlton, Fawcett, Quality, Standard and many more. Four Color Fear collects the best, and includes 40 full-sized covers. Featured are comic book legends such as Jack Cole, Steve Ditko, George Evans, Frank Frazetta, Alex Toth, Al Williamson, Basil Wolverton, Wally Wood, L.B.Cole, Matt Fox and many others. “In these types of compilations, I try to provide a service to the reader who has neither the time, inclination, nor bank account to purchase and sift through hundreds of golden age comic books to glean off that precious 10% - the most distinctive and worthwhile examples from a particular genre,” says Sadowski.
SETTING THE STANDARD: Alex Toth at Standard Comics 1952-54
RELEASE DATE: Fall 2010
“It's hard to overstate the influence of Alex Toth on the art of comic books,” says Sadowski. “Toth was from that first generation who grew up reading comic books, and he came to the medium armed with enough discipline, talent, and sheer love and respect for the medium to create a technique free of condescension, artifice, or shortcuts. His work at Standard first established him as the ‘comic book artist's artist.’” Learning his craft at Eastern and DC, Alex Toth arrived at Standard Comics in late 1951 with a fully formed, graphically impeccable technique perfectly suited to the comic book medium – honest, uncompromising, and free of condescension and artifice. Includes a biographical sketch and an essay on Toth’s approach to comic book storytelling, based heavily on his interviews and written correspondence.
THE ROAD TO PLASTIC MAN: The Golden Age Comics of Jack Cole 1937-41
RELEASE DATE: t.b.a.
“From his earliest days in comics, Jack Cole was one intense artist / writer. It just took him a few years to fully incorporate humor into his work, so this book tracks his artistic evolution leading up to Plastic Man,” says Sadowski. Jack Cole’s irreverent yet artistically first-rate approach to comic book art was a refreshing departure for a young industry that tended to take itself a bit too seriously. His work influenced many of his contemporaries, most notably Will Eisner, whose Spirit gradually assumed Cole’s intoxicating mixture of fun and high drama. The book begins with early “big foot” work for Centaur’s Funny Pages, then gives way to raucous adventure and crime stories before honing in on the nefarious Claw, the boy inventor Dickie Dean, and proto-superheroes the Comet, Daredevil, and Silver Streak.
AWAY FROM HOME: EC Artists at Other Companies
RELEASE DATE: t.b.a.
The key ingredient in what made EC the most celebrated comic book company of all time was its remarkable stable of artists: Reed Crandall, Jack Davis, George Evans, Will Elder, Al Feldstein, Jack Kamen, Bernard Krigstein, Harvey Kurtzman, Graham Ingels, Joe Orlando, John Severin, Basil Wolverton, Wallace Wood, and Al Williamson, as well as that of part-timers Frank Frazetta, Roy G. Krenkel, Alex Toth, and Angelo Torres. “This book collects the best non-EC art by the EC stable of artists, in other words, the cream of the 1950s crop. A lot of these guys were pals and they often collaborated, so there will be a healthy sampling of these fraternal efforts,” says Sadowski.
CREEPING DEATH FROM NEPTUNE: Basil Wolverton’s Sci-Fi and Horror Comics 1938-55
RELEASE DATE: t.b.a.
“Many of Wolverton's comics have been reprinted in a number of formats, but for years I've been waiting for a full-color compilation of his serious golden age work. Finally I decided to do it myself. Like the Cole book, this one is a no-brainer,” says Sadowski. Given the media coverage of his recent retrospective at New York’s Barbara Gladstone Gallery, it’s high time for a full-color anthology of Basil Wolverton’s serious comic book work. This edition covers all bases, from his early features, Space Patrol and Meteor Martin, into Spacehawk (“Lone Wolf of the Void”), and ending with the skewed master’s gloriously repugnant horror comics.
THE COMIC BOOK FRANKENSTEIN: The Monster According to Dick Briefer
RELEASE DATE: t.b.a.
“Dick Briefer had been involved in comic books since its earliest days. He was one of the first to work at Will Eisner and Jerry Iger's comic book studio in the mid-1930s. Like Eisner, Cole, and Wolverton, Briefer was responsible for the complete package: writing, layouts, pencils and inks, and often the lettering. He did his best work on FRANKENSTEIN, and this compilation should restore his status as one of the form's major pioneers,” says Sadowski. Briefer’s Frankenstein made its debut in 1940 in Prize Comics. He continually ramped up the monster’s humorous aspect, which in turn increased its popularity, and Frankenstein was rewarded with its own title in 1945. Then, with the horror craze in full swing in 1951, Briefer responded by reverting the character back to its frightening origins. This book will travel through Briefer’s complete Frankenstein series and shed light on one of comic books’ most gifted creators.

When the Thracian King summons the Greek hero and his six battle-worn companions to mold the Thracian army into a bloodthirsty, ruthless killing machine, the Son of Zeus rushes to answer the call of war and gold. But within the nation of Thrace lies an epic tale of murder, deception and sacrifice that shows how far from grace he’s fallen – and what he must accomplish for redemption.
THE GLOOMERS RELEASE FIRST HALLOWEEN EPISODE
The Gloomers, a new animated cartoon series debuting at Comic Con this year, released its first Halloween episode today. www.facebook.com/thegloomers
The Halloween episode stars famed horror director and Evil Dead II writer Scott Spiegel, who plays himself in the cartoon.
The Gloomers series is the brainchild of Charles Mechem, who was CEO of Taft Broadcasting, which owned Hanna Barbera for over 20 years. The Gloomers includes Neal Barbera, son of Joe Barbera, as a writer. Neal Barbera wrote a number of classic Hanna Barbera scripts, including Yogi Bear and Scooby Doo and many others.
No matter how bad your day is, The Gloomers day is always worse.

BACKGROUND AND BACKSTORY:
THE GLOOMERS is an animated series that follows the trials and tribulations of the hysterically funny heirs to misfortune, the Gloomer family. Crashing the classic Hanna-Barbera animation of the Jetsons and Flintstones with a post-modern comedy slant, the show is both a reflection and an antidote to our modern day “gloomy” outlook. We all have bad days, sometimes even the kind of day that plunges your entire life into chaos. Now, imagine if every day was like that...
Enter The Gloomers.
From generation to generation the Gloomers have endured the worst bad-luck streak in recorded history. The torch of tribulation is carried proudly by the patriarch, Dooman Gloomer, a hapless inventor who, despite his consistent failings, still holds out hope for that one elusive moment that will break the chain and let the sun shine in. Sadly, that day never, ever comes.
Dooman’s best friend, Moses, a 262 year old parrot that has been in the Gloomer family for generations, knows this all to well and amuses himself by reminding poor Dooman every chance he gets.
Dooman’s wife, Lotta, stands by his side through all the explosions, fires, electrocutions and falls that happen with common frequency.
Their detached son Junior has inherited the Gloomer luck, but since he has retreated to the basement in his helmet, he does not yet realize the magnitude of his potential misery. His only friend is a Marcel Marceau-like spider named Cunape.
Somehow, the curse passed over little sister Notta who, oblivious to the doom and despair that surrounds her, floats effortlessly through life on a cloud of hope that always avoids the dark rain cloud that follows the rest of the Gloomer clan, which also includes a clinically depressed dog, Lugubrious, and a robotic cat named Despair.
Aimed at the kid in all of us who wishes they could simply laugh away bad luck; aimed at anyone who ever felt that they were not very different from Charlie Brown or Wile E. Coyote.
The Gloomers reminds us that no matter how bad your day was, chances are The Gloomers was worse. Kids, teens and adults will be attracted to the show’s bizarre sense of comedy and unfortunate circumstances, but it is the universality of the characters and the Gloomers unconditional love for each other that will secure the series a fiercely loyal following.

IDW Announces Archie Collections
Highly anticipated, first-ever classic reprints starting in May 2010
San Diego, CA (October 26, 2009) - Get ready for a summer of fun! Starting in May 2010, IDW Publishing will begin its extraordinary series of important Archie collections, offering fans an incredible range of must-have hard covers and trade paperbacks. Archie: The Best of Dan DeCarlo Volume One kicks things off in May by gathering the very best of this seminal Archie artist in one book, followed by Archie: The Classic Newspaper Comics, Volume One, a hardcover collection of strips from the 1940's, in June. In July, true Archie fans will be delighted by a trade paperback of Archie: Pureheart the Powerful.
"Archie is one of the most influential comics on popular culture and we are really looking forward to starting our collections by offering these new books to fans," said Greg Goldstein, IDW's chief operating officer. "Each book offers a new and different way for fans to enjoy or even rediscover this classic comic, with many more to come."
Coming of age in post-World War II America, Archie captured the hearts of generations of children and adults. Archie and his friends remain hugely popular today, appealing to comic fans new and old with a blend of timeless stories and classic Americana style.
The dean of Archie artists, Dan DeCarlo spent nearly 50 years with the characters of Riverdale High, drawing every character at one time or another. Archie: The Best of Dan DeCarlo Volume One contains dozens of stories handpicked by DeCarlo connoisseurs, all shot from original art and recolored to match the flavor of the original publishing. The Best of Dan DeCarlo is the first in IDW's Archie "Best Of" series, which will grow to include collections for Bob Montana and Stan Goldberg, among others.
Archie: The Classic Newspaper Comics, Volume One will be published under IDW's Library of American Comics imprint and designed by Eisner Award-winner Dean Mullaney. Volume One reprints the earliest strips starting from 1946-48, many strips for the first time, and showcases the unheralded genius of Montana as he developed the lovable characters.
Archie: Pureheart the Powerful collects, at long last, the short-lived yet much-loved Archie superhero parody stories that first appeared during the "camp craze" of the mid 1960's. With the coming Archie Comics new Pureheart the Powerful, IDW's reprint collection is the perfect way for fans to rediscover the original characters.
Archie: The Best of Dan DeCarlo, Volume One will be available in stores in May 2010.

PRESS RELEASE - PROOF'S SEASON FINALE TO KICK OFF AN ALL-NEW BEGINNING IN 2010!
The first season of PROOF ends with an all-new beginning on the horizon!
26 October 2009 (Berkeley, CA) - This January the first season of writer Alex Grecian and illustrator Riley Rossmo's ongoing cryptozoological thriller, PROOF, will come to an end as the two prepare an all-new season coming in 2010!
"While this season of PROOF is ending, the series is just beginning," Grecian said. "Not only do Riley and I have a couple of side projects such as his COWBOY NINJA VIKING, but PROOF takes a very big turn with issue #28. It's a natural place to take a short break. Rest assured we'll be back and when we start again nothing in PROOF will ever be the same."
In PROOF, Special Agent John 'Proof' Prufrock, also known as Bigfoot, works for The Lodge, an organization dedicated to preserving and protecting 'monsters' from the threat of human beings. Since its release the series has received critical acclaim, with three volumes of collections in print and a fourth, PROOF VOL. 4: JULIA, to be available during the hiatus. Both Grecian and Rossmo will remain the regular creative team in the new season, due out in 2010.
Rossmo added, "Another reason is to give new readers a very easy jumping-on point. While we've certainly had a great response to the trades, we're making it even easier and more inexpensive than ever to jump on board. If you've never read PROOF before or only do so with the collections, the upcoming new season is your chance to become a regular reader."
PROOF #28, a 32-page full color comic book for $3.50, will be in-stores January 27th, 2010.

DARK HORSE UNVEILS THE NEXT WAVE
OF DOMO QEE COLLECTIBLE TOYS
DOMO QEES ARRIVE IN A SECOND MYSTERY-BOX ASSORTMENT AND IN ALL-NEW INDIVIDUAL BLISTER PACKS!
OCTOBER 26, MILWAUKIE, OR -- Japanese character Domo is taking the United States by storm. First appearing in the U.S. specialty marketplace as an import item, the fuzzy, sharp-toothed cartoon character has become quite visible as the star of a program of merchandise, food tie-ins, animation, apparel, and more.
Currently, Domo is the centerpiece of a chainwide promotion at 7-Eleven, with his own Slurpee flavor in collector cups. A component of this rollout is a group of four custom Domo Qee toys in unique packaging, including a Slurpee cup, and this assortment has flown off of shelves all over the country!
Hot on the heels of the first Domo Qee mystery-box series released this past summer, Dark Horse is proud to announce the arrival of the second mystery-box assortment. The first series, which offered sixteen different Domo designs, each in a small box that concealed the figure from the consumer until after purchase, was a sellout.
“This was Dark Horse’s first attempt at a mystery-box type of release,” product development head David Scroggy remarked, “and we are gratified by the response. We didn’t want to repeat ourselves, so we came up with a whole slate of brand-new designs for series two. It is an extension for those who bought into the first series, and a jumping-on point for newer fans.”
Dark Horse’s association with Domo, who is the mascot of Japanese television network NHK, began with limited-edition flocked vinyl figures. A set of these in 8-inch size was released initially and sold out. A followup 5.5-inch series received a similar response. Next is a new release of limited editions in 4-inch size, hitting stores this November.
One of the notable aspects of Dark Horse’s licensed Domo figures is the introduction of color variants, known to designer-toy collectors as “colorways.” Since the Domo character is brown in the source material, the Japanese property owners required some persuasion before they agreed to these variations. Given the response from the marketplace, the faith in Dark Horse’s ability to gauge the pulse of the modern pop-culture consumer seems justified.
In assessing the next step, it seemed logical to go still smaller with the new figures, making them similar to the 2.5-inch Qee size. It was a short step from there to bringing the two programs together with a set of Qee-style Domo toys in a variety of flocked colorways, mounted on a new blister-card packaging solution for individual sale.
The next wave of Dark Horse’s Domo Qee program arrives in stores this coming March.

PRESS RELEASE - PRE-RELEASE BUZZ EXPLODES COWBOY NINJA VIKING INTO AN ONGOING SERIES!
Image Comics' highly anticipated mini-series of insane proportions goes ongoing due to pre-release reception!
20 October 2009 (Berkeley, CA) - On the verge of COWBOY NINJA VIKING's debut, Image Comics announces writer AJ Lieberman and artist Riley Rossmo's highly anticipated action-packed mini-series with a multiple personality twist will expand to regular ongoing series!
"Even before its release, COWBOY NINJA VIKING has seen a reception much like CHEW's explosive launch, making it evident writer AJ Lieberman and artist Riley Rossmo shouldn't be contained to a mere four issues," Image Comics Vice President Jim Valentino said. "In a time where it's very hard to launch an all-new title, the pre-release buzz for this book has been massive. We're extremely excited to keep it going for a long time coming. Considering we've had to already double our print run to meet demand, we think the fans will highly enjoy the now ongoing series."
COWBOY NINJA VIKING is the birth child of Doctor Sebastian Ghislain, a psychotherapist who recruits Multiple Personality Disorder patients to create a unit of counter-intelligence agents called the Triplets. But what happens when those guys become out of control assassins? That’s when the deadliest Triplet of them all, COWBOY NINJA VIKING, is called in to take down his own brethren. In order to ensure the timely schedule, the series will ship in monthly arcs with two month gaps in between each storyline.
COWBOY NINJA VIKING #1 (AUG090294), a 24-page full color Golden Age-format comic book for $3.50, will be in stores October 21, 2009.

HELLBOY and UMBRELLA ACADEMY NOW AVAILABLE ON THE iPHONE
Dark Horse is proud to announce that Mike Mignola's Hellboy and Gerard Way's The Umbrella Academy are now available on the iPhone.
At the time of their publication, both Seed of Destruction and Apocalypse Suite were immediately renowned by critics as unique and talented debuts by independent creators.
Soon, industry heavyweights joined the chorus. Hellboy: Seed of Destruction is the beginning of the now legendary series Alan Moore calls, "a passport to a corner of funnybook heaven you may never want to leave."
Similarly, Grant Morrison calls The Umbrella Academy "one of the great new comic books of this decade," while Newsarama says the first volume of the series, Apocalypse Suite, is "flawless."
With two blockbuster Hellboy films by Guillermo del Toro and an Umbrella Academy movie in preproduction at Universal Studios, there's never been a better time to have the start of these monumental comics at your fingertips. A perfect way to introduce friends and pop-culture fans to two of the most important comics series today, or a great way to revisit the magic of amazing sequential art, the mobile editions of Seed of Destruction and Apocalypse Suite are a necessary addition for new and serious readers alike.
The first impressive issues of Hellboy and The Umbrella Academy are now available through the iTunes Store, with subsequent issues available soon. Seed of Destruction is available as four issues at $0.99 each, or as a bundle of all four issues for $3.99. The first issue of Apocalypse Suite is available for free, with issues #2–#6 only $0.99 each, or a bundle of all six issues for $4.99.

October 7, 2009 Los Angeles - During its return to exhibiting in the United States for the first time in four years at the Long Beach Comic
Convention October 2-4, Com.x is proud and excited to have announced four new titles for 2009 and 2010:
=====
2009
Forty-Five (45) – Slated for December, 2009, Forty-Five is our highly- anticipated book consisting of a series of Superhero interviews
documented by James Stanley. As a soon-to-be father, James wants to find out what lies in store for his family if his unborn child turns
out to have a Superpower, so he takes to interviewing forty-five different superheroes, from young to old. Each page of art has been
illustrated by a different comic artist, with no predetermined brief given; just the written page as guidance. The concept is unlike
anything you've seen in comic books so far; it truly is an original attempt at redefining what people expect from a comic book format.
Featuring the art of Liam Sharp, Jock, Sean Philips, Randy Green, Charlie Adlard and Dan Brereton, to name but a few of the 45
contributors. 45 is spotlighted in the October 2009 Diamond Previews catalogue and will ship in December (DCD# OCT090823). Forty-Five was
#17 of “50 Things You Need” in Wizard issue 217.
Cla$$war Series #1 TPB – Hot off the heels of the announcement of a film of the book "tagged for development" with Mandeville Films
(producers of The Surrogates and The Proposal), Com.x are pleased to announce the release of the softcover edition of their award-winning,
sell-out title, Cla$$war. Written by Rob Williams and with art by Trevor Hairsine & Travel Foreman, the book will also be available in
December 2009.
=====
2010
Duppy'78 – three Jamaican crime families vie for control of Kingston using black market ammo, potent narcotics, and the supernatural. A re-
imagining of Jamaican and Rastafarian ghost stories, told in the context of a 1978 gangland drama, Duppy‘78 is written by Casey Seijas
and illustrated by Amancey Nahuelpan B.
CASEY SEIJAS is a virtually unknown 10-year comic book veteran, having served as a writer and editor for MTV, DC/Vertigo Comics, Wizard magazine and a slew of other media outlets. DUPPY '78 is his first credited comic work.
AMANCAY NAHUELPAN B. was born in Canada and grew up in Chile. In 2006 he published Hijos de P, a noir genre comic, winner of the Chilean Professional Institute’s Fantasy and Comics Festival Award for Best Artist and Best Series in 2007.
Monster Myths – Creator and illustrator, John Lupo Avanti, uses the characters and the neighborhood that he grew up in to realize a story
that expresses modern American issues, such as political grudges, war, fear mongering, corruption and greed. An over-the-top dark comedy
pitching violent biker gangs against imposing clean-cut real estate developers, and in the middle of all of this is an unlikely hero
stirring the pot in hopes to save his neighborhood.
John Lupo Avanti is an artist living in Northern California. His work has been featured in numerous advertising campaigns.
Nicodemus Flynn – Created by Alex De-Gruchy. An original graphic novel set in a world where humans, monsters and supernatural creatures co-
exist. There are highly-trained, specialist individuals who hunt these creatures, and Nicodemus Flynn is one of the best, having spent the
last fifteen years hunting demons and monsters across the globe. He is a self-styled vigilante, protecting the innocent and thwarting the
powers of evil.
Alex De-Gruchy has had a number of short stories published by various comic book companies including Alterna Comics and Ronin Studios and his first full-length mini-series will be published by Resolution Comics in 2010. Robin Simon Ng is a self-taught comic book artist born in 1976, in Sarawak, Malaysia. After graduating from his studies in Graphic Design, he worked in several designing and advertising firms before moving into 3D animation and storyboarding.

Topware Interactive Unveils Apocalyptic Masterpiece
+++ TopWare Interactive announces that it will be publishing Scivelation, a third person shooter set in a dystopian future, developed by Black Wing Foundation +++
Las Vegas - Dnepropetrovsk, October 9th, 2009. TopWare Interactive has acquired the exclusive worldwide publishing rights to Scivelation, Black Wing Foundation’s ambitious, story driven, action game. Armed with the Unreal III Engine, Scivelation is slated for a mid-2010 release for PC and next-gen consoles. Scivelation will transform the Third-Person Shooter genre into an unrelenting interactive experience, hurling the player into a blockbuster journey, steeped in conflict and veiled in uncertainty.
Set in the distant future, Scivelation’s universe is a world born out of the ashes of conflict and misery. An oppressive global dictatorship, known as the Regime, has risen to power after the aftermath of the Apocalypse; aggressively seeking out and eliminating any opposition to their tyrannical government. With this capricious, dystopian reality as a backdrop, the player will take his or her place amongst the ranks of the resistance, waging war throughout the furthest reaches of the globe in this action-packed battle for freedom and survival.
About TopWare Interactive
For years, TopWare Interactive has developed successful brands, built international presence, and published award winning blockbusters of all genres; manifesting itself as a proverbial “breath of fresh air” in the video game industry. Evidence of this fact can be seen in the successful IPs generated by in-house development studio Reality Pump and other top licenses acquired from external developers. Games such as "Jagged Alliance 2", "Earth 2160", and "Two Worlds" are just a few of the award winning box office hits to emerge from this unique and innovative studio.
Being a privately held and financed company and operating without any impeding foreign control, TopWare Interactive is able to make quick decisions and adjustments to adapt to a constantly evolving global marketplace. Currently, the company is the only worldwide, independent Game Publisher with its own in-house development resources, with more than 25 years of entertainment industry experience. Over the years, that experience has given the video game community such innovative milestones as the first CD-ROM (1992), the first DVD-ROM (1997), and the first BD-ROM (2008) containing gaming content.
Beside this, TopWare Interactive is the first German based company appointed as a licensed Publisher by both Microsoft and Sony for their, respective, next gen platforms. This provides for a solid future product portfolio on multiple platforms and distribution channels. Presently, TopWare develops for and publishes on PC, Mac, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3; although, future platforms such as the next gen Xbox and NATAL continue to remain insight. In fact, in the PC sector, TopWare retains a close partnership with Intel, AMD and Nvidia, striving to propel innovation and remain on the cutting-edge of state-of-the-art technology.
About Black Wing Foundation
BWF has developed into a company where video game professionals come together to create, live, and breathe innovations. BWF primarily focuses on game development, however, they also provide several different types of outsourcing, such as graphical outsourcing. In addition, BWF is leading the way in many different fields of video game research. As a producer and a developer, BWF concentrates on creating games that truly break the bounds of conventional thinking. The company is located in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine.

CHARLES VESS BRINGS YOU THE MOON
Charles Vess is one of the most revered artists in the field of fantasy and comic art. The three-time Eisner Award winner has worked on some of the most recognizable comic properties of all time, including Jeff Smith’s Rose and Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, a retelling of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, for which he and Gaiman shared the prestigious World Fantasy Award.
For over thirty years Vess has positioned himself, through his art, as the best fantasy illustrator in recent history.
Drawing Down the Moon: The Art of Charles Vess collects decades of the artist’s unparalleled work and is scheduled to be released by Dark Horse on December 23, 2009. The hardcover, full-color, 200-page book costs $39.99.
But as a special treat, Dark Horse is happy to announce that the entire book is now available on darkhorse.com for collectors, art connoisseurs, and newly introduced fans to browse for free.
“This book has taken a bit over two years from the completion of my initial layouts to actually seeing print,” said Vess. “So, in an effort to make certain that you know that the book will indeed be available this December, we are giving you a sneak peak of the entire 200 pages.”
“Above all,” Vess continued, “there’s the unique opportunity to view all the projects that you’d never have a chance to see except in a book like this: a 16’ bronze sculpture, event posters for local organizations, private commissions and previously unpublished paintings done just for the pure pleasure of doing them.”
Vess’s art immerses readers into a place of such fantasy and grandeur, one hopes to stay forever lost in the beauty. His masterful use of paint and brush stand out in an age of digital design, harking back to the golden age of illustration.
Dark Horse invites you to step into a realm of imagination and wonder. Anyone interested is welcome to join the magical journey.

RICK REMENDER BEGINS THE COUNTDOWN TO THE LAST DAYS OF AMERICAN CRIME
September 22nd, 2009, Los Angeles – In the not-too-distant future, as a final response to terrorism and crime, the U.S. government plans in secret to broadcast a signal making it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit unlawful acts. To keep this from the public, the government creates a distraction, installing a new currency system using digital charge cards.
Radical Publishing is excited to announce the December 2009 debut of The Last Days of American Crime, created and written by critically acclaimed author Rick Remender (Punisher, Fear Agent) and Illustrated by Greg Tocchini (Thor, 1602: New World). The bi-monthly, three-issue miniseries will be the latest in Radical Publishing’s 64-page bookshelf format with a low $4.99 price point.
The Last Days of AmericanCrime tells the story of Graham Brick, a petty criminal never quite able to hit the big score. In a grand scheme, Graham intends to steal one of the charging stations, skip the country and live off unlimited funds for the rest of his life. But the media has leaked news of the anti-crime signal one week before it was to go live... and now Graham and his team have just a few days to turn the heist of the century into the last crime in American history.
“The Last Days of American Crime is one of the most unique crime stories on or off the printed page and Radical is very proud to be a part of it” said Radical Publishing President and Publisher, Barry Levine. “We’re especially excited to work with Rick Remender, one of the most talented creators in comics today. His writing is bringing a new and unique voice to the crime genre and we couldn’t be more pleased to help bring his story to life.”
In discussing how Last Days came to Radical, Rick Remender states, “Barry Levine called me after reading some of my other books and said he was looking for original genre pitches. I had one that I’d been itching to do for a long time in The Last Days of American Crime. It’s hardcore crime with an apolitical bent and it took someone like Barry and Radical to see the potential of such a thing.”

EA and IDW Launch Army of Two and Drago Age Comics
EDWOOD CITY, Calif.--Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) announced today that it has signed a deal with IDW Publishing to expand two of its intellectual properties, Army of Two™ and Dragon Age™, into comics under a new EA™ Comics imprint with IDW beginning in January. EA and IDW will launch monthly, ongoing series for both Army of Two and Dragon Age. Each issue will be published in print and distributed nationally at comic book outlets, with digital versions released for iPhone™ and iPod® Touch and other emerging digital platforms.
“We’ve seen an increasing number of video game tie-ins with comics over the last few years. This marks another step in our strategy for extending EA’s wholly-owned game properties to new media. It is exhilarating to be working with the comic book creators directly,” said Mike Quigley, Group Vice President, Global Marketing, EA Games Label.
Under terms of the agreement, EA will fund and manage the creative aspect of the comic book series, while IDW will be responsible for printing and distribution. IDW is the leader in digital comic book distribution and the nation’s third largest comic book publisher overall.
“This is a great opportunity for IDW to work with a worldwide leader in video games,” said Greg Goldstein, chief operating officer for IDW. “We look forward to bringing a tremendous amount of great content into the comics market.”
Written by veteran comic book writer Peter Milligan (X-Men, Batman, Hellblazer), Army of Two is being published as a comic starting in January 2010. Rising star Chester Ocampo is the cover artist while the interior artist/penciler, Dexter Soy, is a ‘hot newcomer’ on the comic scene. Soy’s work suggests influences from well-known comic artists such as Whilce Portacio and Leinil Francis Yu. The first story arc, “Across the Border,” follows ex-Army Rangers Salem and Rios as they form their own Private Military Corporation: Trans World Operations. The story of the comic follow the events of the first Army of Two game but takes place before the deadly invasion of Shanghai by The 40th Day initiative in the videogame sequel. In the comic, Salem and Rios get more than they bargained for as they are unexpectedly caught in a brewing war between the Mexican Army, drug cartels, and The Maras – one of the most powerful street gangs in Mexico.
Inspired by the highly-anticipated BioWare™ RPG, Dragon Age: Origins, the Dragon Age comic book series will be written by award-winning fiction writer Orson Scott Card (Ender’s Game, Ultimate Iron Man). The cover artist is the critically acclaimed Humberto Ramos. Story details and the interior artist are expected to be announced shortly.

Baltimore, Maryland - October 3, 2009 - Besides all of the creators, panels, costume contests, and awards ceremony occurring at the 10th annual Baltimore Comic-Con on October 10-11, 2009, this year's show features some amazing events for collectors of all types!
Original-Owner Golden Age Comics Sale
John Haines Rare Comics is pleased to announce the premiere of an original-owner Golden-Age comic book collection at this year's Baltimore Comic-Con. This collection consists of most major super-hero titles published between 1952 and 1954, including all but two issues of the Atlas Super-Hero series. Veteran collectors know how rarely comics from this period surface and will want to be on-hand to view and purchase these seldom-seen treasures. Several examples already graded by CGC include: Sub-Mariner #38 CGC 6.0, Young Men #27 CGC 6.0, Adventure #210 CGC 5.5, and Detective #225 CGC 5.5. For a complete list of comics from this collection, visit the John Haines Rare Comics web site at www.comicsandfriends.com.
CGC Grading Contest
If you are going to the Baltimore Comic-Con, then it's time to test your grading skills! Together with GPA for Comics (http://comics.gpanalysis.com), Matt Nelson and Richard Evans will host the 3rd Official CGC grading contest at the show. The contest will be held throughout the weekend at the Classics Incorporated/Worldwide Comics booth.
The rules have changed: grade 20 comics in 20 minutes. No restoration check this time, as all 20 books will be unrestored. First place prize is $250 and bragging rights. Only 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places are announced, but each participant's individual scores will be e-mailed to them.
The cost has dropped too. If you are currently a subscriber to GPA for Comics, then your cost to compete is nothing! GPA will cover the usual $10 entry fee for all paid members. To sign up, simply log in to your GPA account and click on "Grading Contest" on the main menu. For those non-subscribers who wish to participate, GPA will pay half of that fee. So you pay either nothing or $5 to play! Set aside 20 minutes while you're at the show, come by the booth, and test your grading skills!
Please visit www.classicsincorporated.com for information regarding contest rules and results.

Here's the news about the next dinner for the southern California comic-book community.
When: October 29, 7:00 p.m.
Where: Junior's Deli, 2379 Westwood Boulevard in Westwood, near the intersection of the 10 and 405 freeways.
What we'll discuss: New publishers -- which companies and imprints have come along in the past 12 months, and which ones seem likeliest to stick around
THIS IS THE LAST DINNER OF THE YEAR. We won't hold dinners in November or December, due to the holidays.
About the comics dinner: Held on the last Thursday of the month, it’s for anyone who's worked in comic books or graphic novels: artists, retailers, publishers, printers, teachers, writers, librarians, editors, everyone. (No fans or wannabes, though. This is just for the industry.) There’s no formal agenda: we eat, drink, trade news and gossip, show off new work, and so on. People have built friendships and business deals after meeting at the dinners. If you’ve got announcements or questions for your colleagues, bring them. Someone’s bound to be interested.
Let me know if you'll come. If you show up without RSVPing, we won't toss you out, but I need an idea of how many people we'll get. I'm at davidseidman@earthlink.net or 310-652-4369.
Spread the word about the dinner to your colleagues. Better yet, bring them with you!
