IDW Takes Comics to FEVER RIDGE!

Publisher Announces a New Kind of War Story

[Fever Ridge #1 Cover A]San Diego, CA (November 1, 2012) – Beginning this February, IDW Publishing is excited to announce a unique new miniseries by writer Mike Heimos and artist Nick Runge (Judge Dredd, Ghostbusters)! Taking readers back to World War II and to the oft-unseen locales explored by the 6th Infantry Division of the 6th Army, FEVER RIDGE is an 8-part series, a historical fiction inspired by real soldiers and their incredible experiences.

Written by first-time creator Heimos in tribute to his grandfather, a decorated soldier, FEVER RIDGE puts readers in country with “The Sightseein’ Sixth” and the Alamo Scouts, their jungle commandoes. This is a look at the world’s greatest war from another angle. Exploring General Douglas MacArthur’s campaigns deep in the jungles of New Guinea and the Philippines, this is a story that will explore exotic characters, events, and locales and will unearth  a few secrets along the way.

“I am thrilled to be teaming up with IDW to tell this story of ‘The Sightseers’,” said Heimos. “It is one that involves subject matter that has received too little attention in general; almost none in historical fiction and I don't think any in graphic novels/comics" he continued.
[Fever Ridge #1 Cover RI]
“The heart of the forest can be as cruel and tangled as our mind. Yet, it's beauty and fire hold the keys to this world,” said series artist Runge. “The War is only one of the many faces that shape this tale of survival and suspense in the dark corners of New Guinea. Our main characters face not only the horror of combat and secrets of the jungle, but the question of how these events will effect the path of their lives when they return home.... if they do....   This is a new take on World War II in the Pacific and I'm truly honored to have a fantastic company like IDW publishing this series. It's a perfect fit!"

“I've had the pleasure of working with artist Nick Runge on a number of covers for various books I've edited," said editor Tom Waltz.  “His awesome talent speaks for itself and he's always proven to be a true professional. But, man, I was completely awestruck when he first showed me the pages he was doing for Fever Ridge. I mean, I knew he was good, but not THAT good! Combine that with Michael's fantastic story and I knew right then and there, we needed to find a way to get Fever Ridge published at IDW -- and we did!”

Rounded out by the coloring talents of Jordie Bellaire (The Rocketeer: Cargo of Doom, Captain Marvel) and the letters of Brandon DeStefano (Term Life, Harvest), FEVER RIDGE promises to be as eye-popping as it is vividly thought-provoking.

Halloween 2012 -- Fun, feisty manga that follows a fledgling vamp, Cherri Creeper, to a school for Vampires where she can learn to drink responsibly!

School Bites:Independent Studies! What will be in this book?

This 128 page Full Colour trade will be a collection of chapters that have appeared on  Holly Golightly's Webcomic, School Bites! It will include "Private Lessons" and "Home Ec" as well as Pin Ups, sketches and NEW content!

It will be Manga size (a bit bigger than 8x5"), perfect bound with a lovely glossy cover! Backers of this Kickstarter Project, who pledge $20 and up will receive the EXCLUSIVE and Limited Kickstarter Cover!

Never Read School Bites?! Here's a Crash Course!

The story itself centers around the main character, Cherri Creeper, once known by the Mortal name, Charlotte Webb. After being bitten and left for dead by a rouge vampire, Charlotte is lead by a love smitten bat named Bing into an alternate realm where the Shadow Academy resides.

The Shadow Academy is an institution were fledgeling Vampires learn to drink responsibly. There, Charlotte is given her her new Vampire name, meets her classmates, teachers and begins her Vampiric education.

Unlike many Adventure or Vampire series or movies, School Bites does not dip into the ‘we must Save or Destroy the world!’ dramatics. It relies on personal experiences of the characters dealing with being different, coping with coming of age, being ageless, friendship and matters of the heart.

These Vampires do no live on blood alone. Because of a special elixir, they can live on sugary goodies for most of the time, giving them the ability to pick and choose their human meals more carefully without bloodlust clouding their decision.

Why do my Vampires look somewhat different from each other? In School Bites there are many types and hybrids of Vampire. For example, Nostferatu are born Vampires, they are green in appearance and are usually of royal lineage. Where other Vampires have elf-like ears and different shades of lavander skin. This sometimes causes prejudice among Vampire clans which the school continuously strives to extinguish.

School Bites is For a 13 years+ audience. Buuut I do know alotta grown up dudes dig it too!

The Writing Desk Of Bram Stoker
Now Going Up For Auction
From Profiles In History

LOS ANGELES- OCT 31, 2012- Profiles in History, run by Joe Maddalena, is proud to announce that the desk where Bram Stoker wrote Dracula will be a part of their Hollywood Auction on December 15 & 16.

It was at this desk that Irish borth author Bram Stoker (1847-1912) created the most famous literary character in the world -- DRACULA (published in 1897).  At the beginning of the last century, Stoker gave this historic desk to his close friend JSR Phillips, editor of the  Yorkshire Post.  The author often stayed with Phillips at his home in Balmoral, Headingley, Leeds.  Over the past century, the desk had become battered, with the drawers missing and its legs being sawn short.  The owner of the desk commissioned master furniture artist Mark Brazier-Jones, whose works are held in the esteemed collections of The Victoria & Albert Museum, The Louvre and The Museum of Art and Design, among others, to preserve and enhance the cultural artifact as a work of art.

Brazier-Jones states in part: "Even as a new desk, in its day, this was a modest item of furniture, a place for a man to work, and yet possessing a noble honesty.  I wanted to keep the desk complete and intact, to save all its scars and broken varnish, this history alive with its gnarled textures...I decided to attach, via callipers and clasps the necessaries to regain functionality.  To this I have also embroidered imagery appropriate to the great man's inspirations and imaginings.  I visualize Stoker sat pen to paper contemplating a moonlit rose garden, breathless milk white cleavage and blood soaked lace.  All the fixtures and fittings I have created are in bronze and burnished steel. He has also leather lined two secret compartments I have devised (the position of which will only be revealed to the final owner of the desk).  There is also a bronze 'treasure chest' secret compartment carved with a tangled rose vine bas-relief.  This, though hidden, can more easily be found and as such may act as a decoy for the other two compartments. The face panel of each drawer is acid etched through to copper and nickel layers.  The effect is to subtly represent a misty tableau of Whitby Abbey by moonlight high on the cliff above Whitby Harbour surrounded by gravestones and bats.  Over these drawer fronts are five bronze handles, each one different.  On the lower left, a bat, to the lower right, a savage hound (in Stoker's book Dracula arrived in Whitby as a giant dog).  The three upper drawers consist of scrolling rose thorns and buds.  The interiors are lined in deep buttoned blood red velvet.  The baroque rose motif is used again where they seem to crawl up and across the table top frame giving the feeling time has stopped like an overgrown grave."

Brazier-Jones designed and crafted a magnificent candelabra congruent with the Dracula theme to set atop this functional work of art.  A truly breathtaking piece, the desk and candelbra are expected to fetch $60,000 - $80,000.

BEDLAM #1 and MACGVER #1 Sell out, Receive New Printing

BEDLAM #1, the Halloween debut issue of a disturbing new horror series by Nick Spencer and Riley Rossmo, has sold out at the distributor level ahead of its October 31 in-store date. It will receive a second printing (SEP128208), to be in stores on November 28, the same day as BEDLAM #2.

Taking its tagline from a Morrissey song — "Is evil just something your are? Or something you do?" — BEDLAM is a dark story about the "rehabilitated" mass murderer Madder Red — known a decade later as Fillmore Press. Recruited by the police to aid in capturing of other killers, Press finds himself fighting against his own nature — against Madder Red threatening to re-emerge.

An advance review lauds BEDLAM's ability to create uneasiness and fear in readers:

"Bedlam #1 is heavy on the creep factor with just enough mystery and intrigue to keep it interesting. It's not so much scary as it is disturbing and unsettling, which is way worse in my book."
- Word of the Nerd

Nick Spencer also spoke to USA Today about the grim new series.

Alert: Ditko’s GORGO Surfaces!

No One is Safe from GORGO’s Grasp!

[Ditko Monsters Gorgo Cover]San Diego, CA (October 30, 2012) – This January, the world is set to come under vicious attack. As ocean waters tremble and churn, undersea volcanoes violently erupt, and the giant lizard monster Gorgo rises once again to terrorize a woefully unprepared populace!

IDW Publishing and Yoe Books are thrilled to announce DITKO MONSTERS: GORGO! The first in a series, to be followed by DITKO MONSTERS: KONGA!, this volume collects the complete run of Ditko’s Gorgo: over 200 pages of explosive, destructive Gorgo action. This hardcover volume is absolutely packed with towering monster art by the inimitable comics legend STEVE DITKO!

Drawn at the same time Ditko was doing landmark work on Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, Gorgo was ripped from the reels of its cinematic origins and thrust into the pulpy comics spotlight. Seemingly unstoppable, Gorgo takes all comers as he stomps across the globe in adventures penned by fan-favorite writer Joe Gill with book design and an introduction by Eisner Award-winner, Craig Yoe.

“This is the third Ditko book I've had the great pleasure to produce, the first two were The Art of Ditko and The Creativity of Ditko,” says Yoe. “As proud of I am of those, this one may be the most F-U-N fun yet, because it's all about a ginormous, scaly-skinned, dinosaur-like, anti-social, city-smashing MONSTER. Ditko obviously had a blast doing these mad-cool comics, smashingly putting the "GO" in Gorgo!”

A bona fide art legend, a vicious monster laying waste to highly populated urban areas, and an oversized, full-color hardback? Ladies and gentlemonsters, DITKO MONSTERS: GORGO! has it all!

DITKO MONSTERS: GORGO! (FC, 224 pages, $34.99) is in stores 1/30/13.
Diamond code: NOV120414

Craig Yoe is available for convention appearances and interviews with the press in regards to this and his other books. Find Yoe Books' online at http://yoebooks.com and http://www.youtube.com/theyoetube.

IDW Limited Delivers Halloween Scares with Alan Robert’s CRAWL TO ME
The Second Official IDW Limited Release is an award winning, Creator-Owned title that is headed to the big screen

IDW Limited (www.idwlimited.com) is pleased to announce a special new limited edition hardcover of Alan Robert’s Crawl To Me. From rock star to all-star comic creator, Life of Agony’s Alan Robert brings intensity and electricity to everything he does. This critically acclaimed, award-winning mini-series will be presented in a custom case and cover, with hand-drawn artwork by the book’s creator and artist. Presented in the multi-tiered IDW Limited fashion, fans will be able to select the level of original artwork and casing they’d like to purchase according to their budget and desire.

“To witness this little story develop into what it’s become is quite mind-blowing to me,” Says Robert. “It’s true horror in the sense that it’s meant to scare the reader to the core. Not just visually, but emotionally, too. Edgar is as terrifying as villains get and not just because of the vulgarities we actually see on the page, but more so, because of what’s implied in between the panels.”

Crawl To Me is both written and illustrated by Robert, with a beautifully painted dust jacket by artist menton3 of Monocyte fame. It’s part psychological thriller and part haunted house story. Ain’t it Cool News praised it as being “Gorgeous and terrifying,” while Fangoria raved, “Readers will be blown away by the story and art of this psychological thriller.”  Crawl To Me was awarded Best Mini-Series of the Year by ComicMonsters.com and Hollywood is already taking notice. Crawl To Me is currently in development to become a live-action feature film, with a screenplay penned by screenwriters T.J Cimfel and David White.

“Alan’s like no one we’ve ever seen. Incredibly talented, incredibly motivated.” Says Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. “He comes in with these amazing, really dark, really twisted ideas. And you’re thinking, there’s no way a story like that can be pulled off in such a tight page count, and then the pages get here, and they’re complete home runs. Any series from Alan is a thrill.”

Just in time for Halloween, fans will be able to pick up this haunting tale that’s equal parts trick and treat. Alan Robert is a man of many talents, and they are fully on display in the pages of Crawl To Me. The book is available for pre-order immediately on www.idwlimited.com with a ship date of mid-November.

ALAN ROBERT’S CRAWL TO ME DELUXE LIMITED EDITION (RED-$100.00/BLACK-$250.00; 128 pages; 7.5” x 11”; hardcover) is now available for pre-order
