DARK HORSE AND BIOWARE UNVEIL
THE LATEST IN THE LINE OF MASS EFFECT COLLECTIBLES!

All-new 6” Turian Cruiser ship to hit shelves in November!

MILWAUKIE, OR, APRIL 30–One of the cornerstones of both Dark Horse’s publishing and product line in recent years, has been the massive video game franchise, Mass Effect.

To date, Dark Horse Deluxe has released four different ships, as well as limited edition variant, and high end editions. Up next is the Turian cruiser, which bears some slight resemblance to the Normandy, due to the cooperative effort between the Turians and the human race in the Alliance ship’s construction. This race in Mass Effect, are members of the Citadel Council, well known for their military role, and their contribution of starships to the Citadel Fleet.

“We have been overwhelmed by the support gamers have given our Mass Effect ship replica series," Dark Horse's David Scroggy remarked, " and look forward to continuing the line with this latest release. We have been working directly with the Mass Effect game design team, interfacing with them to obtain the exact 3D design specs that ensure accuracy of detail.”

Each Turian Cruiser Replica package will contain an insert card, with a unique code, that will enhance the Mass Effect game experience for individual consumers.

JORDAN HINSON and TYLER DAWSON JOIN

BUNKER

Written/Directed by NED EHRBAR, Film Co-Stars Ryan Patrick McGuffey
Los Angeles, CA – April 30, 2013 –
Jordan Hinson (Eureka) and Tyler Dawson (Bellflower) have joined the cast of BUNKER, a sci-fi rom-com written and directed by Ned Ehrbar (Co-op of the Damned). Also joining the cast this week is Australian actress Ursula Mills.

Hinson, Dawson and Mills join a cast that already includes Ryan Patrick McGuffey (The Anniversary), Paul Telfer (Vampire Diaires, NCIS) and Jaime Gallagher (Red Wing). Filming commences the first week of May in Los Angeles. Bunker is being produced by Coco Quinn and Ryan Patrick McGuffey for Lonesome Jack Productions.

Bunker is a sci-fi comedy short film that tells the classic tale of boy meets girl in a bunker during the robot apocalypse. With humanity in tatters and a robot apocalypse raging outside, one survivor learns that even the bleakest of conditions can't dampen the human impulse to flirt. But getting the girl is never easy and not everything is as it seems in this bunker.

Director Ned Ehrbar said of Bunker "It' a post-apocalyptic love story... sort of like a Nora Ephron rom-com set in the Terminator universe," in his Indiegogo video, which you can see here:  http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/help-make-bunker

As the Bunker team counts down the final four days of their Indiegogo campaign, there will be teaser update videos posted from cast members. Just $1,000 away from their final fundraising goal of $10,000, anything to help get the word out is a major bonus and GREATLY appreciated.

Arthur Must Break Morgana’s Spell Over Gwen Before All is Lost
When MERLIN Returns to Syfy This Friday

Impassioned Love, Timely Magic Take Center Stage as
the Final Five Episodes of MERLIN Begin Airing
Friday, May 3, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy

Time is running short and only Arthur’s impassioned love and Merlin’s timely magic can stop Morgana’s spell from dooming Gwen to an eternity of evil in “With All My Heart,” the first of the final five episodes of MERLIN, which airs Friday, May 3, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy.

The series lauded by Entertainment Weekly as “an utterly charming mini-epic” barrels toward its stunning conclusion in five episodes fraught with tension, revelation – and, of course, filled with magic.

The first of the five episodes is this week’s “With All My Heart.”  In it, Merlin must act fast before Morgana’s twisted power over Gwen takes control of the queen forever. But Gaius warns him that only the most powerful magic can save Gwen – a task that will not be easy, even for Merlin

As Morgana tightens her grip on Camelot, one thing is clear: She will not give up her puppet without a fight … and both Merlin and Arthur will need to risk everything to save Gwen.

In her fifth and final season playing Gwen, Angel Coulby said she was overjoyed when presented with the storyline, and was very excited to take her character in new, wicked directions.

“It gave me a chance to do something different with a character I'd been playing for a long time – and it’s just so much fun being bad,” Coulby explains. “I'm not quite sure what this says about me, but I think there's something liberating about playing a villain. Plus, I got to try to kill Bradley – um, I mean Arthur.”

While Coulby and Katie McGrath (who portrays Morgana) have both said they’ll miss their long-running characters when MERLIN ends, neither will be sorry they needn’t ever again return to Trefil, the South Wales village where the climactic scenes of “With All My Heart” were filmed. Over the series’ five-year run, numerous episodes have featured the renowned limestone quarries of the South Wales village. Neither actress has many pleasant memories of the location.

“No matter what the weather is like anywhere else in the world, it’s always raining in Trefil,” Coulby recalls. “It’s always raining and cold, or it’s way too hot, and it’s very exposed.”  Still, she says, “It looks fantastic on screen.”

McGrath concurs: “We were in Trefil a lot during the first seasons, then we stopped filming there – and the producers realized the high production quality of this unused quarry on the side of a mountain, so we returned. Sure, they’re sitting in an office in London with their tea, and we’re there on buses in minus-4 temperatures and hawks overhead waiting for us to die so they can feast on our bones. It was always a trial to film in Trefil.”

MERLIN fans needn’t travel anywhere but Syfy this Friday, May 3, when “With All My Heart” debuts at 10 p.m. ET/PT, kicking off the final five episodes ever of the most magical series on TV.

All four previous seasons of MERLIN are now available on DVD, on iTunes and on Netflix. Be sure to follow the latest news on MERLIN at the Official Merlin page on Facebook.

Scratch9 Returns With New Cat Tails Comic From Hermes Press

New Anthology Gives Each of the 9 Lives a Turn in the Spotlight

April 24, 2013 - The Eisner Award-nominated all-ages, all-cat comic returns this summer with all-new stories in SCRATCH9: CAT TAILS from Hermes Press.

Following the book’s special edition on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY, the limited series SCRATCH9: CAT TAILS arrives in stores this July! The new comic will pair series creator Rob M. Worley with an eclectic mix of artists including Armand Villavert Jr, Chris Houghton, Jason T. Kruse, Caanan Grall, Shannon Eric Denton, John Martin, Joe Foo, Justin Castaneda and Mike Roll. Newcomer Joshua Buchanan anchors the series as the cover artist and interior illustrator as well.

Scratch9 features a mischievous house cat who gains the ability to summon any of his nine lives, past and future, to aid him in rescuing animals from the C.R.U.E.L. corporation. The new CAT TAILS book gives each of the nine lives a chance to star in their own solo adventure spotlighting their unique abilities.

“It’s been such a blast telling stories in so many different genres, with artists whose styles could not be more different,” Worley said. “Kids and adults who loved the original series are sure to find something different to like in our nine CAT TAILS.”

The return of Scratch9 also marks the establishment of the SWAH fund: Savings for the Welfare of our Animal Heroes.

“‘Swah!’ is just one of Scratch’s many exclamations and it’s also the name of a new fund that is my effort to give back to the cats and dogs that have touched my life,” Worley said, noting that the series is a direct homage to his own cats. “So from this point forward, five percent of everything Scratch9 earns, be it comics or elsewhere, will be added to the SWAH fund.”

The SWAH fund will then be distributed as donations to various animal welfare organizations such as the ASPCA, Guardians For Animals in Michigan, NKLA.org in California and others.

Fundraising for animal shelters has always been part of Scratch9. Fans who caught Worley or Kruse during their publicity tour for the original book likely received a collectible shelter support card in exchange for a donation to a participating animal shelter. Worley plans to continue to offer premiums as rewards for shelter donations at upcoming appearances.

SCRATCH9: CAT TAILS #1 is available in the current Diamond Previews Catalog (cover dated May 2013) with an ordering code of #MAY13 1167

The book is expected to ship in July.

SCRATCH9 #1 is available for Free on May 4th, 2013 - Free Comic Book Day!

Eastman, Skulan, and Talbot’s ZOMBIE WAR Rises Again!
The classic series comes back… in color!

San Diego, CA (April 27, 2013) – IDW Publishing is thrilled to announce the publication of ZOMBIE WAR! When the denizens of Earth’s military cemeteries begin to rise from the dead, who will stop them? Over ZOMBIE WAR’s two giant-sized issues, Jina, a tough-as-nails fighter pilot sets about uncovering what reanimated these heavily armed monsters and more importantly, what will stop them!

“When longtime friend Tom Skulan (Fantaco Press) and I created the concept of ZOMBIE WAR it was purely and completely out of LOVE of the genre, and when it came to bringing the vision to life, Eric Talbot was the only artist we wanted to work with!” said co-creator Kevin Eastman. “Man—what a great time we had with this story!”

The classic ZOMBIE WAR series features scripts and layouts by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman and art by Eric Talbot (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Heavy Metal). This new incarnation will present ZOMBIE WAR in full color for the first time, from the talented hands of colorist Ronda Pattison (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Wars, X-Men)!

“Personally this event is VERY exciting to me,” continued Eastman. “More than twenty years after the original series came out in black and white, we get the chance to remaster the piece with my favorite colorist on the planet, the most AWESOME Ronda Pattison! I can’t wait to see what the fans think of one of most near and dear blasts from the past!”

This October, ZOMBIE WAR will be unleashing duotone destruction with issue #1, so don’t miss it!

The End Begins in LOCKE & KEY: ALPHA!
Two Giant-Sized Issues Wrap Up the Hit Series this August!

San Diego, CA (April 27, 2013) – While it’s long been announced that Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s Eisner-winning epic Locke & Key is approaching the story’s conclusion, details of the finale have finally been announced, and the finale has become even bigger than originally revealed.

The concluding series, Locke & Key: Omega, will now run five issues instead of six, and the finale itself will bring the Keyhouse down in the form of LOCKE & KEY: ALPHA, a series of two forty-eight-page issues that will end the series with the kind of intense, macabre aplomb that made it a hit for six series!

“We hadn’t wanted to reveal the direction this finale was going to take until now in order to maintain necessary secrecy over how LOCKE & KEY wraps up,” said series editor and IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. “But after Omega, there can only be Alpha. And the series will end much the way it began, in the form of an extra-length issue. Two, in this case. Hard to fit this much death and destruction into just a regular-sized issue…”

Ryall added “It’s been an incredible rewarding six years of Locke & Key, and we’ve loved seeing Locke & Key build a larger and more rabid audience with each volume of the series. Add to that the fans who’ve liked the series enough to tattoo it on their bodies, the actual keys built by Israel Skelton’s Skelton Crew Studios, the Fox pilot, the Eisner Awards and everything else we’ve experienced, and it’s been one of the more rewarding series IDW has ever published. And now it’s time to close this storyline in a way that will be as equally memorable as everything we’ve seen over nearly 40 issues from Hill, Rodriguez and colorist Jay Fotos.”

Locke & Key has enjoyed a massively successful critical and commercial run and found a die-hard group of passionate fans. Though all good things must come to an end, LOCKE & KEY: ALPHA promises to cap things off in the kind of legendary, eye-popping fashion that can only come from the minds of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez.

For the saved and the damned alike, it’s always darkest before the dawn… or is it? This August, there’s only one way to find out.

C2E2: ALEX DE CAMPI’S
GRINDHOUSE: DOORS OPEN AT MIDNIGHT!
An Eight-Issue Series Comprised of Four 48-Page Stories!

APRIL 28, CHICAGO, IL—From the floor of C2E2, Dark Horse announces a book that was almost too much for the editorial team! Eisner nominee Alex de Campi (Smoke, Ashes) headlines a B-movie comic masterpiece in Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight!

With covers by superstar artists Francesco Francavilla, Dan Panosian, and Coop, this series is excessive, gratuitous and tasteless—just like you love it.

Literature: overrated. Morality: expendable. Tonight is right for some over-the-top sex and violence! Bringing the flavor of midnight exploitation flicks to comics, Grindhouse delivers four two-issue gore operas, starting with the Chris Peterson-drawn “Bee Vixens from Mars,” pitting a one-eyed southern Latina deputy against lusty alien chicks bent on laying eggs in the entire male population!

Future arcs include “Prison Ship Anteres,” featuring art from Simon Fraser (2000 AD); “Bride of Blood,” with art by Federica Manfredi (True Blood, Hack/Slash); and “Flesh Feast of the Devil Doll,” with art by Gary Erskine (The Mask)!

“Grindhouse is the comic your mother warned you about. Seriously. You know when grownups told you comics were filthy, immoral trash? They were talking about this comic specifically,” states Alex de Campi. “Books like Grindhouse were the reason the Comics Code was invented. And if you’re in a very conservative or evangelical part of the US, you should be careful where you read it. Each story is two issues of solid gore, gratuitous nudity, and over-the-top badassery. It’s filthy. It’s violent. It’s really, really fun.”

“Bee Vixens” colorist Nolan Woodard added, “You do know I colored 28 Days Later, and this is still way more blood, right?”
For a sneak peak at several interior pages, check out Alex de Campi's interview on Bleeding Cool.
Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight #1 is on sale October 2 in comic shops everywhere (where it’s not outlawed)!

It’s Harry Potter meets Trainspotting from Tim Seeley & Mike Norton!

APRIL 28, CHICAGO, IL—Dark Horse Comics is pleased to announce that Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash) is returning with his rare mix of humor and horror in the supernatural superhero series The Occultist!

With acclaimed artist Mike Norton (Battlepug, The Answer!) on interior art and cover art by Steve Morris (Serenity, Angel & Faith), The Occultist will return this fall in the follow-up to its hugely successful 2011 miniseries!

When the Sword, a mysterious book of powerful spells, binds itself to him, the fact that Rob’s life has been falling apart doesn’t seem like such a big deal. To survive, Rob must learn to control the book’s unpredictable magic, while his life slips even further out of control . . .

An evil witch doctor wants the Sword to reject Rob, now known as the Occultist, by deciding that he is a bad host in the ongoing war against the realm of the dead. The solution lies in a Catholic schoolgirl who dabbles in death for a quick high.

Praise for The Occultist:

“The Occultist is a comic you should be checking out . . . If you want more of a magically fun and yet grounded character tale then put your money in to support this.”—Comic Book Resources

C2E2: CATES & REZNICEK DEBUT BUZZKILL!
A NEW SUPERHERO SERIES OF BOOZIN’ AND BRUISIN’!

APRIL 28, CHICAGO, IL—From the minds of Donny Cates (Hunter Quaid) and Mark Reznicek (percussive force of the Toadies) comes a brand-new superhero series that packs an eighty-proof punch. Dark Horse Comics is thrilled to announce Buzzkill!

Ruben is not your average alcoholic; he’s an unstoppable superhero who derives his powers from imbibing massive amounts of alcohol. After all the disasters it’s caused in his personal life, he’s ready to get clean . . . and the city’s supervillains couldn’t be happier!

“What I like so much about the book is that while it has these wild superhero trappings, at its core it’s a very sweet and very personal story about the relationship between power and addiction, and the very real consequences of both,” states Donny Cates. “It’s something that really interests me, and I think that sometimes we approach issues like these in comics as punch lines. What we’ve really tried to do here is take something really devastating and horrible, and examine it through a very familiar terrain. Also, there is a character named Panteradactyl. So there’s that.”

In this wildly gorgeous new four-part miniseries from artist Geoff Shaw (Batman 80-Page Giant) and colorist Lauren Affe, Buzzkill is drunk with power!

“Working on Buzzkill is kinda like hanging out in a bar, drinking beers and doing shots with your buddy, and discussing the weirdest, wildest, most effed-up stuff you can think of to put in a comic. In fact, that’s exactly what it’s like,” says Mark Reznicek. “Donny Cates is the evil genius of comics, so it’s a total blast to work with him. If you ever wanted to see what a drunken, superpowered barroom brawl looks like, or wondered what would happen to bears in the airless vacuum of space, or wanted to see a baboon in a business suit . . . Buzzkill is the book for you!”

C2E2: GISCHLER & FERREYRA BEGIN WITCH HUNT!
A fantastic tale of dark fantasy with a noir edge!

APRIL 28, CHICAGO, IL—From the minds of Victor Gischler (Punisher MAX, X-Men) and Juan Ferreyra (Colder, Rex Mundi) comes a new horror series: Witch Hunt!

“Readers who crave a mix of horror and action will want to pick up Witch Hunt. Juan is going to murder your face with his art,” quipped writer Victor Gischler. “I’m just so thrilled with his work, and Dark Horse is the perfect publisher for this project. So much support and enthusiasm. I can’t thank Dark Horse enough, and I can’t wait for this project to hit shelves!”

Cassian Steele is boss of the werewolf mafia in the Big Easy, and he’s got a problem. The old witch Verona, who knows his secret, has gone into hiding. Cassian wants her dead. So he sends out the word: an open contract. The first monster to dust Verona gets a big payday.

Werewolf mobsters, vampire maids, voodoo wizards, zombie ninjas, and even a rogue priest show up to try to collect the bounty. What they don’t realize is that Barnabus Black, a demon desperately trying to regain his halo, is her protection.

“Victor came up with a very interesting story for me to draw. I was able to portray a varied array of weird stuff, which makes the book a really fun ride visually. So if you like werewolves, angels, demons, witches, zombies, ninjas, vampires, etc., you might find something to your liking,” added artist Juan Ferreyra.

C2E2:  HELLBOY GETS ITTY BITTY!
Aw Yeah Comics and Tiny Titans creators Art Baltazar and
Franco Aureliani take on Mike Mignola’s cast of characters in a
brand-new all-ages title!

CHICAGO, IL, APRIL 28–Art Baltazar and Franco Aureliani have created quite a stir with their work on some of the most fun and ageless comics of all time. They won an Eisner for Tiny Titans, their treatment of DC Comics’ Teen Titans, and their recent Kickstarter campaign for their Aw Yeah Comics series surpassed its goal in record time.

Now, this dynamic duo takes on Dark Horse’s best-known character, Mike Mignola’s Hellboy, in an all-new comics series, Itty Bitty Hellboy!

A ghost named Rasputin has been spotted. And Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. are going to find out what’s he up to. Who is Hellboy, anyway? Why does he have such a big hand, and what is it used for? Who’s weirder, he or his friends? What is the B.P.R.D.? And what does chicken soup have to do with all of it? All this and more will be answered in the debut issue, where BIG things happen to Itty Bitty Hellboy!

“Itty Bitty HELLBOY! WOW! Such awesomeness! I haven’t screamed so much AW YEAH SHOUTOUTS in all my life! It is truly an honor to be the next creative team to add to the HELLBOY saga! I have been a fan of Mike Mignola since Hellboy’s early days at Dark Horse LEGENDS! It’s true. Can’t wait! Itty Bitty has never been so HUGE! AW YEAH HELLBOY!” said Art Baltazar, famous cartoonist.
“We get to work on HELLBOY? HELL YEAH!” exclaimed Franco Aureliani. “One of the most iconic characters in all of comics, and we get to bring our own style and story to it! Truly a dream come true! We’re big fans! Itty Bitty Hellboy is going to be a lot of fun . . . and we get to actually say HELL(BOY)!”

“Given the recent developments in Hellboy’s life—falling in love, discovering that he’s the rightful king of England, having his heart torn out and dropped into hell—this is clearly the next logical step in his evolution,” said Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.
