SIDE-SCROLLING, BRAWLING, AND BUTTON-MASHING INSPIRE BURN THE ORPHANGE
BORN TO LOSE kicks off video game infused trilogy in May

With the publication of BURN THE ORPHANAGE VOLUME 1: BORN TO LOSE in May, Image Comics will show readers that revenge is a dish best served with blazing side-scroller-style action. In the ‘80s-tastic graphic novel inspired by video games like Double Dragon and Streets of Rage, Sina Grace (THE LI’L DEPRESSED BOY, NOT MY BAG, SELF-OBSESSED) and Daniel Freedman (UNDYING LOVE) tell the story of Rock, a young orphan who was left for dead in a burning building. All grown up now, Rock is out to find the person responsible, taking on on every goon and punk in the city. Fighting by his side are his friends Lex and Bear, who bring their own talents into the mix.

"I'm lucky enough that I get to work with one of my best friends on a comic book that was born of a love of video games, music, and styles of our shared childhood,” said Grace, who both co-writes and draws the series. “We're going to put our rough-and-tough hero Rock through the wringer in Burn the Orphanage, and I'm glad that the industry embraces the product of our intense friendship."

Co-writer Freedman agreed. "Burn the Orphanage is Sina’s and my baby to the world,” he said. “While it was in our collective womb, we piped in shred guitar and 8-bit techno. Birthed it by way of interstellar travel. Nursed it on an unhealthy amount of side-scrolling, brawling, and button-mashing. And clothed it in the fur-lined rags of our childhoods, meaning acid washed jeans, bandanas, and fishnets. I'm just excited for people to finally get a look at this monster."

Collecting all three issues of the comic book series plus never-before-seen art and other extras, BURN THE ORPHANAGE VOLUME 1: BORN TO LOSE is the first volume in a planned trilogy. The first installment of a five-issue second volume, BURN THE ORPHANAGE: REIGN OF TERROR, begins in May.

BURN THE ORPHANAGE: BORN TO LOSE VOLUME 1: BORN TO LOSE by Sina Grace and Daniel Freedman will be in comic book stores on May 7 and in bookstores on May 20.

Praise for BURN THE ORPHANAGE: BORN TO LOSE

“Burn the Orphanage repeatedly punches you with fists made of nostalgia and awesomeness, which is precisely why you need you need to let it kick your ass.”
– Joshua Yehl, IGN

“’80s fanboys and fangirls, come out and play… you’ll want to read this three-part miniseries and get ready for ongoing series. Burn the Orphanage follows Rock, a tough-talkin’, harder-punchin’ kid straight from the Street Fighter/Warriors era. He and his crew get mixed up in some wicked alien mess, love-dilemmas, and even modern qualms like equal rights. Somehow, all of this culminates into a compelling story full of humor and action.”
– Scott Ryan Kennard, Eat, Geek, Play

“Burn the Orphanage: Born to Lose is so much win!”
– Clarence, Redheaded Mule

Countdown To 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY At IDW
New Comic Book Series In Partnership With Fox Consumer Products Sets The Stage For The Live-Action Return!

Event Series 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY to Premiere May 5 on FOX

San Diego, CA (March 24, 2014) – “24” fans, rejoice! Jack Bauer is returning with more edge-of-your-seat suspense in the new television event series 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY, premiering May 5 on FOX. Ahead of the debut, IDW and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products have partnered to launch an all-new comic book series that follows the perilous exploits of Bauer, picking up where the final season of the hit television show left off. The thrilling new series from IDW debuts in April 2014, and will offer an expansive look at the events leading straight into 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY.

Ushering Bauer into his newest adventure will be acclaimed writer Ed Brisson (“Secret Avengers”) and artist Michael Gaydos (“Alias”). Both creators’ backgrounds in espionage thrillers make them the perfect team to tackle the explosive world of “24.”

“Ed burst onto the comics scene with the sci-fi thriller ‘Comeback,’ which was heavy on plot and adventure, a style that fits nicely with an established property such as ‘24,’” editor Denton J. Tipton says. “We’ve paired the rising star with veteran artist Michael Gaydos, whose draftsmanship and storytelling skills are second to none. Buckle up for a high-octane tale of Jack Bauer’s missing years!”

“24” became a critical and commercial hit during its original airing by defying conventional television standards. Starring Kiefer Sutherland, “24” enjoyed an immensely successful run on FOX, winning Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards. Thanks to a vocal and loyal fan base, the show became one of the most successful espionage dramas ever on TV.

“‘24’ was one of IDW’s earliest successes with licensed comics,” says Greg Goldstein, IDW President and Chief Operating Officer. “And the show’s stature has grown immensely since then. Returning to the world of ‘24’ in comics, in conjunction with this highly anticipated return to TV, makes perfect sense.”

The iconic, pulse-pounding clock resets when 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY premieres with a special two-hour television event Monday, May 5 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), and makes its time period premiere the following week on Monday, May 12 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The thrilling saga reunites the Emmy Award-winning team of executive producer Howard Gordon; star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland; co-creator Robert Cochran; executive producers Evan Katz, Manny Coto, David Fury and Brian Grazer; and executive producer and director Jon Cassar. Set and shot in London, the suspenseful event series once again will follow the exploits of heroic agent JACK BAUER (Sutherland), as he attempts to thwart an unthinkable terrorist attack that could change the world forever. Retaining the real-time, nail-biting, fast-paced format with split screens and interweaving storylines, the highly-anticipated series also stars Mary Lynn Rajskub (“Firewall”), Kim Raver (“Revolution”) and William Devane (“The Dark Knight Rises”) reprising their original roles. Newcomers to the drama series include Yvonne Strahovski (“Dexter”), Giles Matthey (“Jobs”), Gbenga Akinnagbe (“The Wire”), Michael Wincott (“The Crow”), Michelle Fairley (“Game of Thrones”)  and Golden Globe Award nominee Stephen Fry (“Alice in Wonderland,” BONES).

In addition to working on such titles as Sensational Spider-Man, Super Hero Squad, and Marvel Adventures at Marvel Comics and Impulse, Teen Titans, and Young Justice at DC Comics, Dezago's creator-owned titles Tellos and Perhapanauts, both published through Image Comics, have garnered much attention and kudos.

Eisner Award-winning Don Rosa can hardly be mentioned without evoking images of Walt Disney's Donald Duck, Scrooge McDuck, and the rest of the Duck family. Heir apparent to Carl Barks as the Duck master, he was responsible for approximately 90 stories before his retirement from working with Disney in 2006.

Craig Rousseau has spent his career as an artist working on numerous noteworthy titles and runs. He has spent time on DC Comics' Batman Beyond, Harley Quinn, and Impulse, Marvel's Captain America & the Korvac Saga, Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane Season 2, and Iron Man & the Iron Wars, and he can be seen lately working on DC Comics' Batman '66, Image Comics' Perhapanauts: Danger Down Under, and Dynamite Entertainment's Pathfinder: Goblins!

Inker extraordinaire Joe Rubinstein has had a storied career, having had opportunity to participate in the creation of works that have had lasting impacts on comics. He holds a Guinness World Record for inking more pencilers than any other inker, and worked on inking The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe for over 20 years. His contributions include Marvel's original Wolverine limited series, Micronauts, and Warlock, and DC Comics' Batman, Green Arrow/Black Canary, Justice League titles, and Superman among many, many others.
