November 17,  2014 (Los Angeles, Calif.) - KaBOOM!, the award-winning all-ages imprint from publisher BOOM! Studios, is thrilled to announce the New Year’s Eve release of Abigail and the Snowman, a new, original miniseries from Eisner Award-winning creator Roger Langridge (Snarked!, Jim Henson’s The Musical Monsters of Turkey Hollow). This heartwarming story follows young Abigail, the new girl at school with a habit of talking to imaginary friends. When her newest friend turns out to be a real yeti named Claude who escaped from a top-secret government facility, it’s up to Abigail to keep him safe from the “Shadow Men” chasing him.

“Roger is a master of creating emotionally resonant stories that pull at your heartstrings and put a smile on your face,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “He’s proven it time and again, from his work on Snarked! to his most recent adaptation of Jim Henson’s The Musical Monsters of Turkey Hollow. Now, he’s constructed a brand-new story about a girl and her Yeti. Abigail and Claude are reminiscent of Calvin and Hobbes; they’re best friends to the end and a delight to follow around the town of Shipton-on-Sea. This is one of those rare comics that I think virtually anybody will enjoy. Roger is that good.”

Abigail and the Snowman #1 arrives in comic shops on December 31st with a cover price of $3.99 under Diamond order code OCT141174. The main cover is illustrated by series creator Roger Langridge, with an incentive cover by Sonny Liew (Malinky Robot). The Final Order Cutoff deadline for retailers is December 1st. Not sure where to find your nearest comic retailer? Use comicshoplocator.com or findacomicshop.com to find one! It’s also available for order directly from boom-studios.com.

SHUTTER VARIANTS BY CHO, FAWKES & WORKMAN REVEALED
The second story arc kicks off with three exciting variant covers

“So completely and utterly new that it reminds you of the potential of this medium.”
—Robert Kirkman

Writer Joe Keatinge (GLORY, TECH JACKET) and artist Leila del Duca send the beloved Kate Kristopher on all new adventures beginning in SHUTTER #7. To celebrate kicking off Kate’s next globetrotting escapade, this issue will feature variant covers by Frank Cho, Ray Fawkes, and John Workman.

“We wanted to kick off our second storyline with a group of variant artists who would do our first issue's group—Emma RĂos, Dustin Weaver, and Brandon Graham—justice and LOOK OUT because Frank Cho, Ray Fawkes and new series letterer John Workman totally delivered!” said Keatinge.

Del Duca added: “I am smitten with the variant covers Cho, Fawkes, and Workman created for Shutter #7 and can't imagine a better way to ring in the new story arc."

World traveler Kate Kristopher has faced monsters, ninjas, ghosts, and all manner of perils in her previous explorations, but in SHUTTER #7 Kate finally comes face-to-face with another sibling she never knew about, and one who’s dead set on destroying what little Kate has left.

In addition to his variant cover, this new story arc will welcome legendary letterer John Workman (Thor, Doom Patrol, Heavy Liquid) to the team with a comprehensive career retrospective written by Shea Hennum.

A PRIMAL KILLER IS HUMANITY’S LAST HOPE IN DARK ENGINE

This woman is a force of nature in December graphic novel from Image

In desperation, alchemists on a cracked and ruined Earth—where dead men’s ashes rain down and a plague of spore-beasts terrorize the living—create Sym. She is their last hope, their Savior. The mysterious figure at the heart of the Image Comics graphic novel DARK ENGINE by Ryan Burton and John Bivens is a primal force. Her story begins in DARK ENGINE VOLUME 1: THE ART OF DESTRUCTION, due in stores this winter.
Sent back in time to save humankind, Sym is a relentless killer, with gore in her long hair, ribsword in her hand, and a skull as her helmet. But what her creators do not realize is that, though they created her, Sym will not necessarily do their bidding.
“I wanted a female Beowulf…a Gilgamesh…a Kratos that didn’t shy away from her instincts, that was violent, that was fury-born,” said Burton of his fierce protagonist in an interview at Women Write About Comics. “That wasn’t afraid to get hurt or make a incredibly violent gambit in order to cut down her enemy. I believe that all women are a force of nature — they are capable, they are adaptable, they are scary smart. So with all that, it felt natural to make Sym a woman.”
With visceral, hard-etched art and action spanning epochs, DARK ENGINE is a graphic novel experience that artist J.H. Williams III (Sandman: Overture, Promethea, Batwoman) describes as “an otherworldly horrific poetic movement that is immediately immersive.”
DARK ENGINE VOLUME 1 will be in comic book stores on December 24, 2014 and in bookstores on January 6, 2015. It is available for pre-order now.

Praise for DARK ENGINE:
“...there’s no denying the uniqueness of this concept and the flair with which it’s being executed. There’s nothing like watching a vicious character set history on fire; and even if that’s an itch you don’t think you have, you’ll get it scratched when you read Dark Engine.” –Michelle White, Multiversity Comics
“Dark Engine is hauntingly beautiful and unique. It beckons you in with poetic dialogue and captivates you with visceral force.” –Zack Thompson, Bloody Disgusting

Interviews with creators Ryan Burton and John Bivens:
Multiversity Comics: “...there is really no other medium where one or as small a handful of people can create something so large in scope.”
Comic Book Resources: “She is battling ever-changing environments that bring about a variety of predators. Some of the threats are prehistoric, some are human and some are — other.”
