THE LEGEND OF KORRA RETURNS WITH GRAPHIC NOVEL “TURF WARS” FROM DARK HORSE COMICS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
MILWAUKIE, Ore., (October 4, 2016)—Dark Horse Comics will release the first volume in a brand-new The Legend of Korra graphic novel series, The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars in June 2017.  This three-part graphic novel series is written by Nickelodeon TV series co-creator and executive producer Michael Dante DiMartino, drawn by Irene Koh (Batgirl, 1602, TMNT), with covers by Heather Campbell (Free Comic Book Day 2016: The Legend of Korra), colors by Jane Bak, and consultation by TV series co-creator and executive producer Bryan Konietzko.
Turf Wars begins with Korra and Asami leaving the spirit world and returning to Republic City only to find political hijinks and human vs. spirit conflict, as a pompous developer plans to turn the new spirit portal into an amusement park, potentially severing an already tumultuous connection with the spirits. In addition, the triads have realigned and are in a brutal brawl at the city’s borders where hundreds of evacuees have relocated.  In order to get through it all, Korra and Asami vow to look out for each other—but first, they’ve got to get better at being a team.
Dark Horse’s award-winning Avatar: The Last Airbender program has seen multiple number-one New York Times bestsellers and continues to grow with the current North and South series written by Gene Luen Yang, an Eisner Award winner and the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. Turf Wars is the latest release in an ongoing partnership between Nickelodeon and Dark Horse to bring fans the very best in graphic novels.
The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars Parts 1–3 will serve as the official continuation of The Legend of Korra television series.

Comics In #YourImage: Adventure
10/6/2016 at 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM, in 1A21

Charles Soule (CURSE WORDS), Greg Rucka (BLACK MAGICK), Simon Spurrier (CRY HAVOC), Caspar Wijngaard (LIMBO), and Joe Harris & Martin Morazzo (SNOWFALL) are ready and willing to break down how they create perfect comic book adventures, versatile heroes, and chilling villains in complex stories that demand a lot from the reader, but have a huge payoff.

Comics In #YourImage: Character
10/7/2016 at 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM, in Room 1A24

A high concept for a comic is a great invitation, but great characters are what make you want to stay with the book. Characters that you empathize with or are cooler than cool are captivating. Sana Takeda (MONSTRESS), Steven T. Seagle (CAMP MIDNIGHT), Rod Reis (HADRIAN’S WALL), Donny Cates (TBA), and Jason Hurley & Jeremy Haun (THE BEAUTY) are going to dig deep into characters, and how it's not as easy as a cool outfit and a snappy name.

Comics In #YourImage: Storytelling
10/8/2016 at 12:15 PM - 1:15 PM, in 1A21

You can't judge a comic solely based on what happens to the characters in it. You have to look at how things happen, what the story looks like, and a bunch of other little tiny things that make comics one of the most vibrant storytelling mediums around. Karen Berger (SURGEON X), Gabriel Hardman (INVISIBLE REPUBLIC), Declan Shalvey (INJECTION), Marjorie Liu (MONSTRESS), Scott Snyder (WYTCHES), and Bryan Hill (ROMULUS) are some of the best storytellers in the business. In addition, check out an EXCLUSIVE preview of the upcoming OFFICER DOWNE film at the end of the panel, based on the graphic novel by Joe Casey & Chris Burnham!

PULP COMICS SUPERSTAR FRANCESCO FRANCAVILLA
WRITES AND DRAWS WILL EISNER'S THE SPIRIT: THE CORPSE-MAKERS

New Series Launches in January 2017

October 4, 2016, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Dynamite Entertainment announces that writer-artist Francesco Francavilla (Black Beetle) will tackle Will Eisner's legendary masked crimefighter this January in the all-new comic book series, The Spirit: The Corpse-Makers!

Following Matt Wagner's initial twelve-issue run (released as a collection, entitled Will Eisner's The Spirit Returns, this month), Francesco Francavilla takes the reins for an all-new series early next year! Francavilla, known primarily for his incredible covers and interior artwork, will handle writing and artistic duties on a new series which is sure to please lovers of crime comics, pulp fiction, and -- of course -- longtime fans of Eisner's most well-known creation!

A series of unexpected disappearances and deaths hit Central City. Initially these cases seem purely unrelated: no apparent connection between the victims makes it easy for the police to just file them as runaways or natural deaths. But when someone close to Ebony White disappears, The Spirit is on the case!

"I couldn't be more honored and humbled to have been asked to do a story with one of the icons of the comic universe," says Francesco Francavilla. "I'm not going to lie -- tackling one of Maestro Will Eisner's most famous creations and following in the steps of my dearest friends Darwyn Cooke and Matt Wagner is not gonna be an easy task, but I'll make sure my love for the character, for those legendary creators, and for the medium will show. And I hope readers will be along with me on this new ride. Thanks again to the Eisner Estate and Dynamite Comics for inviting me to Central City; I think I'm gonna like living here for a bit!"

"We have been very fortunate to have Francesco lend his talent to such stunning cover art on multiple titles over the years," says Dynamite CEO and Publisher Nick Barrucci. "He is a true master of the pulp style in every sense, and to have him tackle The Spirit? That is something every comic book fan will want to see!"

"Francesco Francavilla is part of Dynamite's very DNA," says Joseph Rybandt, Executive Editor. "From his first interior work with us back on Zorro, to the multitude of covers he's done for us over the years - each better than the last - he is one of our go-to artists and he always makes time for us in his increasingly busy schedule. To have him not only write, but draw (and do covers!) The Spirit for five issues? A glorious proposition!"

The Spirit: The Corpse-Makers #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' August 2016 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in October. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies of The Spirit with their local comic book retailers. The Spirit: The Corpse-Makers will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.

About Frank Miller
Frank Miller began his career in comics in the late 1970s, first drawing then writing Daredevil for Marvel Comics, creating what was essentially a crime comic disguised as a superhero book. It was on Daredevil that Miller gained notoriety, honed his storytelling abilities, and took his first steps toward becoming a giant in the comics medium. Next came Ronin, a science-fiction samurai drama that seamlessly melded Japanese and French comics traditions into the American mainstream; and then the groundbreaking and acclaimed Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One, both of which not only redefined the classic character, but also revitalized the industry itself. Finally able to fulfill his dream of doing an all-out, straight-ahead crime series, Miller introduced Sin City in 1991. Readers responded enthusiastically to Miller’s tough-as-leather noir drama, creating an instant sales success. His multi-award-winning 300 series from Dark Horse, a telling of history’s most glorious and underreported battle, was brought to full-blooded life in 1998. In 2001, Miller returned to the superhero genre with the best-selling Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again. Frank Miller continues to push the medium into new territories, exploring subject matter previously untouched in comics, and his work consistently receives the highest praise from his industry peers and readers everywhere. In 2005, with the hugely successful Sin City movie release, co-directed with Robert Rodriguez, Miller added a director’s credit to his already impressive resumé and introduced his characters to an entirely new legion of fans worldwide.

DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT TO RELEASE RETROSPECTIVE
ART BOOK OF A TRUE AMERICAN ICON: GUMBY!

New Deluxe Collection to Pay Tribute to the Art and
History of the Creations of Art Clokey

October 4, 2016, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Gumby, the unforgettable stop motion character, has entertained generations of fans since his introduction in the early 1950's. Now, Dynamite will release the essential compendium to his 60-year history in 2017, featuring an incredible retrospective on not only the characters themselves, but a look into the life of their creator, Art Clokey.

"The most fascinating life story I've ever known just happens to be about my dad, mom, and the world famous characters they created. Art Clokey's journey intersects and influences major touchstones of our American life. The sixty-year behind-the-scenes story of Gumby and Davey & Goliath, interwoven with a rich tapestry of photos and rare anecdotes, weds perfectly with Art Clokey and his amazing life," says Joe Clokey, son of Gumby creator, Art Clokey. "This book will be a fascinating page-turner with never-before-told stories about this clay animation pioneer. You'll see Art's friendship with East-West philosopher Alan Watts; witness his love and partnership with his wife Ruth Clokey and later with Gloria Clokey; explore his fascination with the counter cultural creative winds of the late 60's and 70's (all the while being infused with his spiritual learning from Christianity, Zen Buddhism, and Eastern Avatars); discover his groundbreaking stop motion TV commercials in the early 50's (including his work with fellow stop motion legend Ray Harryhausen), along with over 40 hours of Gumby and Davey adventures and art films, which opened up new avenues for all of us, the texture of which will inspire; and see how today's stop motion superstars got their start with Clokey Productions, and then went on to work on iconic films from Star Wars, The Terminator, and Beetlejuice to A Nightmare Before Christmas, Toy Story and Kubo and the Two Strings. It's truly an honor to work with Dynamite Entertainment on this very special book."

"Art Clokey and Gumby are as important to the history of American animation as the creations of Walt Disney," says Dynamite CEO and publisher, Nick Barrucci. "To be able to tell the story of this man and his incredible cast of characters is a high watermark, both as a publisher, and for me as a fan. Looking through these incredible photos and reading such rich history is guaranteed to make each and every one of us feel like a kid again."

Dynamite Entertainment's beautiful Gumby retrospective will be released in 2017. Look for details on pricing, format, and release in the coming weeks, along with news of other future Dynamite Gumby products.

Clips from the most pivotal moments in series history will be intercut between cast and executive producer interviews.

Season by season, from the moment Rick wakes up in the hospital (as told by Andrew Lincoln), all the way to the excruciating first swing of Negan's bat (told by Jeffery Dean Morgan and others in the lineup), the story of “The Walking Dead” will be told by those who have lived it. “The Walking Dead: Journey So Far” gives viewers who have never seen an episode of “The Walking Dead” a chance to get all caught up on the plot, characters, locations, and unique terminology of the series as well as providing fans who‘ve never missed a moment with fresh interviews with the series’ producers and their favorite actors as part of an exciting refresher course that will further whet their appetite for the new season.

DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT TO PRODUCE NEW COMICS STARRING
SCIENCE FICTION'S ORIGINAL HEROINE, BARBARELLA!

First American Publisher to Create New Material for the Iconic Character

October 4, 2016, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Barbarella, the sexy science fiction heroine created by Jean Claude Forest in 1962, will return in all new comics and more in 2017 from Dynamite Entertainment in conjunction with her 55th anniversary!

The character was introduced at the heart of the sexual revolution of the 1960's, and is forever ingrained in pop culture after Jane Fonda's unforgettable portrayal in the 1968 film. She was a key figure in the fertile battleground of French comic books and the struggle for sexual freedom in the medium, and has not appeared in a new series since her last appearance in the legendary science fiction publication, Heavy Metal.

The new comics will be supervised by Jean-Marc Lofficier, who worked in the mid-90s with Jean-Claude Forest, the character's creator, on a sequel project.

"This is the first step in a multimedia approach designed to herald the return of Barbarella," says Jean-Claude's son, Julien Forest. "We are particularly happy and proud to take that step together with Dynamite, which has showed great respect for so many other classic characters."

"Barbarella will be right at home here at Dynamite alongside such heroines as Vampirella, Red Sonja, and Dejah Thoris," says Dynamite CEO and publisher, Nick Barrucci. "This is a day I have looked forward to since we started publishing! Jean Claude Forest's creation has influenced pop culture from comics to music, and is long overdue for new adventures!"

"I've always been a fan of stories that have a real message hidden within an engaging and entertaining package. Barbarella's message was about the freedom of self-expression, and while it sadly was missed by the majority of readers at the time, enough people figured it out for the character to endure," says editor Matt Idelson. "Getting the chance to participate in creating new stories for an all-time (and all-time underappreciated) classic like Barbarella is beyond a dream come true!"

Look for updates on Dynamite's upcoming Barbarella publishing program in the coming months, with a new series launch planned for 2017.

###

About the 2011 Hellboy Reserve Pinot Noir
This is a Pinot Noir, cultivated and crafted with the same passion and intensity that Mike Mignola has brought to the creation of Hellboy for over two decades. The perfect wine to pair with the next issue of the iconic Hellboy. This special bottling is the first in the Hellboy series. Our Reserve Pinot Noir is sourced from a selection of our best vineyard blocks and barrels in the cellar. It is barrel aged in French oak for 10 months prior to bottling and carefully blended from individual lots to articulate the vintage.
Vintage Overview
The 2011 growing season was one for the record books– a true miracle harvest producing age-worthy wines with remarkable color, vibrancy and balance. Oregon’s Willamette Valley experienced the coolest spring and summer on record, so for a time it looked as though ripening would be a challenge. September brought warm, dry weather, which allowed the grapes to reach the final stage of ripening. We began harvest on October 13 and completed our latest harvest on record in early November.
The wine label for the 2011 Hellboy Reserve Pinot Noir features an illustration by legendary HELLBOY creator Mike Mignola and Eisner Award-winning colorist Dave Stewart which originally appeared as the cover for the classic comic book HELLBOY: THE SLEEPING AND THE DEAD #2.

About Bill Stroller:
Bill Stroller was born here on the property and raised on the family farm outside of Dayton, Oregon. He received a degree in business and economics from Pacific University, as well as an MBA from Portland State University. In 1983, Bill co-founded Express Employment Professionals, currently the largest privately-held staffing company in the world, with over 600 offices in four countries. Additionally, in 2001, he founded Xenium, a human resources outsource company. This business success has enabled Bill to pursue his passion of wine and to contribute to his community. Bill's most prominent civic commitment was to his alma mater, as the former chair of the Pacific University Board of Trustees.
True to his Oregon upbringing, Bill sees himself as a custodian of the land he loves, and cares deeply about sustainability and environmental protection. Driven by these values, he sought to create a business that would last for the next two centuries and beyond.
When Bill acquired the family property from his cousin in 1993, many considered it to be marginal farmland at best. But Bill recognized that the rocky, well-drained Jory soil, the elevation between 300 and 650 feet, and the land’s south facing slope were all ideal for growing wine grapes.
Bill, already a veteran of the wine world thanks to his co-ownership of Chehalem Winery, planted his first ten acres each of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in 1995. He leveraged the experience of consulting viticulturists, but also adapted many newer vineyard techniques in order to maximize the fruit quality.
As an ardent preservationist, Bill built from the ground up a business he could one day entrust to his great-grandchildren. This drive for sustainability earned the vineyard the first-ever LEED Gold certification in the world.
About Stoller Family Estates Farm
For Bill Stoller, purchasing the family property brought his connection to the land full circle.Having worked the land in his youth, Bill understood that the sloped, rocky terrain with its low-yielding soil, would be ideally suited for a world-class vineyard.
The farm had been in the Stoller family since the 1940s when Bill’s father and uncle purchased the land to raise turkeys. Throughout the next five decades, the farm grew from a small family operation into one of Oregon’s largest. When the family farm ceased its operations in 1993, Bill seized the opportunity and acquired the land.

A Land Made for Wine
Bill’s decision to transform the family farm into a vineyard stemmed from much more than wishful thinking. With the help of Burgundian winemaker Patrice Rion and local vineyard consultants, Bill confirmed that the very factors that made this land a poor choice for turkey farming were perfect for an award-winning vineyard.
Bill knew that growing vines often contradicted conventional farming logic. The rocky terrain that broke discs and plows when tilled, the southern-sloped ground that made growing wheat difficult, and the low-yielding Jory soils were all sought-after ingredients of a successful vineyard.
In 1995, Bill planted 10 acres each of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, combining the experience of consulting viticulturists with innovative vineyard techniques in order to maximize the grape’s quality. Today, in addition to these signature varieties, the vineyard also grows Pinot Gris, Riesling, Tempranillo, Syrah, and Pinot Blanc.
