BETTIE PAGE'S SECRET LIFE AS AN UNDERCOVER OPERATIVE
IN 1950S HOLLYWOOD HAS BEEN DECLASSIFIED!

Dynamite Entertainment Proudly Announces the Creative Team, Release Date,
and Spine-Tingling Premise of the All-New Bettie Page Comic Book Series

April 17, 2017, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Dynamite Entertainment is pleased to announce that the iconic Pinup Queen Bettie Page, who lit the pop culture world on fire more than sixty years ago, is returning in comic book form courtesy of writer David Avallone (Doc Savage: The Ring of Fire, The Twilight Zone: The Shadow) and artist Colton Worely (The Shadow, Project Superpowers: Blackcross). With the debut issue set for release in July, Bettie Page #1 will bring the heat to fans this summer.

In this latest telling, Ms. Page is more modest than Ms. Blaise, but peels more than Ms. Emma. She out-vamps Vampirella, but she's sweeter than Honey West. She puts the mod in model, and the bangs in bang-bang. Now the world can know the truth: her classified adventures back in 1951 Hollywood have officially been declassified.

Writer David Avallone says, "Like a lot of people my age, I 'discovered' Bettie Page through comics, when Dave Stevens used her to inspire the ingénue starlet of The Rocketeer. She's such a compelling, iconic figure, with such a fascinating life story, that I was thrilled when Dynamite Senior Editor Joe Rybandt asked me if I could build a comic book mini-series around her. After a lot of research into the life and times of Bettie, I chose to put her in Hollywood at the start of the fifties and the beginning of her modeling career. It's all fictional, of course, but it's built on some corners of her real biography, and the real history of the time. I hope I've made my fictional Bettie as funny, as sweet, as sharp, as tough, and as delightful as the real one."

Artist Colton Worely says, "It's just a fun, kooky story. Fun characters, a crazy story, and oh, hey, it stars Bettie Page. What's not to like?"

Dynamite Entertainment Executive Editor Joseph Rybandt said of the new project, "Creating a compelling narrative for Bettie Page was a bit of a challenge; we wanted to embrace the setting, the time, and add something extra to it, but weren't quite sure what. Enter David Avallone who nailed the tone, spirit, and overall adventure we wanted, and which Bettie truly deserves."

Ms. Page has long been a staple in the comics, dating back to her debut in the 1980's when Dave Stevens based the Rocketeer's girlfriend "Betty" on the iconic leading lady. Subsequently, Ms. Page was seen in the anthology series from Black Cat Comics, a limited pinup series, and lastly in Dark Horse's Bettie Page Comics written and illustrated by Jim Silke.

The debut issue of Bettie Page features a wide selection of cover variants, providing fans and retailers with the freedom of choice! The cover artwork features the talents of Terry Dodson (Marvel Knights: Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Uncanny X-Men), interior artist Colton Worley's, Joseph Michael Linsner (Dawn, Harley Quinn), and Scott Chantler (Three Thieves, Two Generals), respectively. Limited variant editions in "Black & White" and "Virgin Art" formats are also available as retailer incentives for comic shops that support the launch issue by achieving stocking thresholds. Fans will also be excited by the limited-edition "Black Bag" edition, reminiscent of the pinup star's era.

Bettie Page #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' May 2017 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in July. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies with their local comic book retailers. Bettie Page will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.

Tubi TV Adds All 366 Episodes of Anime Hit BLEACH

The World’s Largest Free Streaming TV Library Partners With VIZ Media to Grow Anime Collection With New Slate of Videos

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – April 17, 2017 – Tubi TV, the largest truly free Internet TV network with no subscription fee requirement, today announced the release of a new slate of anime videos, including all 366 episodes of BLEACH, which will be available to viewers in the U.S. and Canada in its original Japanese language with English subtitles. Adding to Tubi TV’s growing library of free streaming TV and movies, the wildly popular Japanese series joins other fan favorites such as HUNTER X HUNTER, DEATH NOTE, BAKUMAN and NARUTO.

Tubi TV partnered with San Francisco-based VIZ Media, LLC, a premier company in the fields of publishing, animation, distribution and global entertainment licensing, to make BLEACH—among many other anime offerings—available in its entirety to viewers in the U.S. and Canada. The agreement builds further momentum for Tubi TV as the free streaming network continues to grow its library of videos, which includes Oscar-winning movies and Emmy-winning TV shows that span genres from comedy, drama, family & kids, classics and horror, to niche segments such as Korean, Chinese and British TV series.

BLEACH is a tremendously successful multimedia property around the world. The TV show is based on the manga created by Tite Kubo, which has been licensed to more than a dozen countries and has over 75 million copies in print in Japan alone. In North America, the manga (published by VIZ Media) has consistently appeared on the New York Times Best Seller list for Manga and the Nielsen BookScan Top 50 Graphic Novels list, selling more than 2.6 million copies across 69 volumes to date.

The BLEACH animated series (rated TV-14) has topped the ratings on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim and sold over 1.8 million DVDs. This success has further spawned an array of related video games, apparel, action figures, trading cards and other merchandise.

“Our partnership with VIZ Media to stream all 366 episodes of BLEACH helps solidify our reputation as a top destination for anime fans,” said Thomas Ahn-Hicks, Tubi TV Co-founder and Head of Strategy and Business Development. “As we continue to snowball our content—in not only anime, but also across a wide spectrum of genres—we’re seeing consumers increasingly flock to Tubi TV as they cut the cord, find content not available on their subscription VOD services, and engage with our unsurpassed collection of free, premium streaming TV and movies.”

BLEACH originally aired from 2004-2012 on the TV Tokyo network and was featured a number of times on ANN’s Top 10 “Japanese Anime TV” rankings. The series continues to enjoy a sizeable following with an impressive 8.2 rating on IMDb, based on more than 33,000 user ratings. It was also nominated in four categories at the 2007 America Anime Awards.

“For more than thirty years, we’ve brought the finest in manga and anime to English-speaking fans across the world,” said Brian Ige, VIZ Media Vice President, Animation. “This partnership with Tubi TV helps us build on that momentum and expand our audience as more and more viewers around the globe continue to clamor for our unique brand of entertainment.”

In the series, Ichigo Kurosaki never asked for the ability to see ghosts—he was born with the gift. When his family is attacked by a Hollow—a malevolent lost soul—Ichigo becomes a Soul Reaper, dedicating his life to protecting the innocent and helping the tortured spirits themselves find peace.

In its review of BLEACH, Anime News Network (ANN) called the show “the next great adventure series,” describing it as “one incredibly entertaining anime that will grab you and refuse to let go. For classic adventure with a slick, modern attitude, go no further than Bleach.” ANN awarded it an “A” grade for animation, with an overall grade of “A-.”

MATT FRACTION AND ALBERT MONTEYS RELEASE SOLID STATE, GRAPHIC NOVEL ACCOMPANIMENT TO JONATHAN COULTON’S NEW CONCEPT ALBUM
In a full-color, square-bound, 10” x 10” trade paperback
PORTLAND, OR, 04/18/2017 — Writer Matt Fraction (SEX CRIMINALS, CASANOVA, ODY-C) and artist Albert Monteys (Universe!) will team up with singer-songwriter/internet phenomenon Jonathan Coulton for the high-concept graphic novel SOLID STATE to accompany his concept album of the same name this July.

Two guys, connected by a name and hundreds of years, somehow stand at the end of man's beginning, and the beginning of man's end. But...it's funny? Also kind of a nightmare. But mostly funny? A funny science-FACTion nightmare about the end of everything, but how that's all kind of okay.

“Jonathan and Albert are the best guests one could hope to have at an End of the World party,” said Fraction. “Jonathan's swooning album becomes bright, bleak, and brilliant all at once, a wonderful extension of his body of work to date and an exploration of entirely new places and spaces; Albert, a genius unparalleled, must have not understood what we were asking him to do because he did it and did it wonderfully and all so much better than we could have ever imagined, seemingly unaware or simply uncaring that we were going to take credit for all of his cartooning sagacity and innovations, which are both legion and legendary; while I, a stowaway, remain the luckiest boy on the whole dummy bus.”

“We always find connections between comics, film, and literature, but I’ve always felt that graphic storytelling has a lot in common with music in its structure, pacing, and rhythm,” said Monteys. “This common ground is an almost unexplored territory where I happily ventured with the best company I could imagine. Jonathan Coulton and Matt Fraction are both creators of humane, provoking, and funny tales, and I’ve had a ton of fun fleshing out this colorful dystopia, trying to have words, sound, and art play together and have a great time.”

“As SOLID STATE evolved from album, to ‘concept album,’ and then, ridiculously, to ‘concept album plus graphic novel,’ I was pretty sure I had bitten off more than I could chew,” said Coulton. “I handed a fuzzy outline of a wonky story to Matt and Albert, and they somehow teased out all these perfect, human details that I didn't even know were there. There's a real thrill that comes from being the least capable guy on the team, watching a couple of magicians pull things out of the air like it's easy. I knew it was going to be good, but not this good.”

SOLID STATE TP (ISBN: 978-1-5343-0365-2, Diamond code: MAY170645) hits comic book stores Wednesday, July 26th and bookstores Tuesday, August 1st. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, June 5th.

Advance praise for SOLID STATE:

“A Neal Stephenson/Ray Kurzweil/Kevin Kelly-inflected fable.” —Boing Boing

“SOLID STATE is a mind-bending futuristic tale about two men named Bob whose fates are intertwined over time, over the backdrop of an encroaching ‘nicey-nice fascism’ perpetuated by artificial intelligence and growing dependence on technology.” —Gizmodo

“An ambitious, multi-layered science fiction story about how technology reveals us, changes us, and maybe ultimately will save us, if we can just remember to be nice to each other.” —Vents Magazine

San Diego, CA (April 14, 2017) – Just announced on the Lucasfilm Publishing Panel at STAR WARS CELEBRATION in Orlando, Disney Licensed Publishing, an imprint of Disney Book Group, LLC, has granted IDW Publishing the license to create and publish new Star Wars comic books aimed at younger readers.

“Lucasfilm is thrilled to expand our relationship with the talented and creative folks at IDW to bring Star Wars comics to kids,” said Michael Siglain, Creative Director of Lucasfilm Publishing. “IDW has an incredible pedigree of talent, and we look forward to working with them on the creation of these fun, action-packed adventures that span the entire Star Wars saga.”

The launch title, Star Wars Adventures, is timed for Fall 2017, and part of the “Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi” publishing program, which will release an exciting array of content leading-up to the next cinematic chapter in the ongoing space saga.

IDW’s Chief Creative Officer, Chris Ryall, said “IDW has long sought to offer the next generation of comic book fans ample reading choices, and being able to provide Star Wars comics aimed directly at that audience is a massive thrill. Disney has been a great collaborator with us and we’re very excited to delve into this particular corner of the galaxy."

BILL MANTLO AND BUTCH GUICE'S SWORDS OF THE SWASHBUCKLERSLAUNCHES AS KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN

After 30 Years Out-of-Print, Beloved Creator-Owned Series Will Be Preserved
as Fully-Remastered Collection Thanks to Fan Support

April 13, 2017, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Dynamite Entertainment, Butch Guice, and the family of Bill Mantlo will be launching a Kickstarter campaign supporting the restoration of the Swords of the Swashbucklers comic series, a creator-owned pirate adventure published by Marvel from 1984 to 1987, as a high-quality collected edition. The support of backers will not only give the long-lost, groundbreaking series the complete and fully-remastered treatment that it deserves, but will preserve the prized work of Bill Mantlo, an industry great whose career was tragically derailed by a vehicular accident.

The Swords of the Swashbucklers Kickstarter campaign will run from April 13 until May 12 and can be found at:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dynamiteent/bill-mantlo-and-butch-guices-swords-of-the-swashbu

Swords of the Swashbucklers, blending elements of Guardians of the Galaxy with Pirates of the Caribbean follows spirited teenager Domino Drake, a normal girl who stumbles upon an alien artifact, acquires uncanny power, and becomes a beacon for intergalactic trouble. With her tabby cat in tow, Domino joins the motley crew of the Starshadow,a spacefaring pirate ship captained by the charismatic and fearless Raader. Upon successful completion of the Swords of the Swashbucklers Kickstarter, Dynamite will publish the series as a full-color, fully remastered volume over 400 pages in length, containing the complete story from the original graphic novel, plus the 12-issue maxi-series.

Backers who support the Swords of the Swashbucklers Kickstarter have the opportunity to receive rewards, including t-shirts, digital editions, collectible prints, hardcover upgrades, and hand-drawn illustrations by Butch Guice.

Artist Butch Guice, who launched his comics career in the 1990s with Rom and Micronauts and became a perrenial favorite at Marvel and DC Comics, reflects on his time working with Mantlo on the series: "I had the enormous pleasure of working with Bill Mantlo at the beginning of my own career, and I know from personal experience the vibrant infectious enthusiasm and joy Bill had for Swords of the Swashbucklers, and the stories we told together. This project is a wonderful way to honor Bill Mantlo's creative legacy. I hope fans, both old and new, support this effort, and I for one very much look forward to seeing the swashbuckling crew of the Starshadow fly once more."

Bill Mantlo rose through the Marvel ranks in the 70s and 80s to become one of their Bullpen's most dependable writers. He scripted over 500 Marvel comic books including Spectacular Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, Micronauts, and Rom: SpaceKnight. Known for his far-flung cosmic adventures and colorful personalities, Mantlo would be partly responsible for bringing to life Rocket Raccoon, the star of the 2014 blockbuster film, Guardians of the Galaxy and this coming May's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. At the height of his career, Bill Mantlo was the victim of a hit-and-run accident in New York City. He suffered a closed-head brain injury that severely impaired his memory, mobility, and fine motor skills. For twenty years, he has resided in a rehabilitation center, where staff assist with nearly all of his physical activities.

Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite, says, "I could not be prouder of our upcoming Kickstarter project, dedicated to help bring Bill Mantlo and Butch Guice's long out-of-print classic, Swords of the Swashbucklers, back into print. The series struck a chord as a young fan and is a personal favorite of mine from childhood. Having the chance to reintroduce it for everyone to enjoy is a dream come true. It's hard to believe that it's been 30 years and this incredible body of work has not been in print before now, and I couldn't be prouder to be publishing this seminal series."

Ultimately, backers who support this Kickstarter will not only grant one of comics' earliest creator-owned projects new life with the premium treatment it deserves, but they'll help get Swords of the Swashbucklers back in print so revenue from its continued sales can improve the quality of life for Bill Mantlo, a beloved writer and heavy influence on the next generation of comic creators.
