Kill Shakespeare Board Game Enlists Two Murderously Talented Artists
The team that will bring IDW Games’ first title to life is announced

San Diego, CA (November 20th, 2013) – Today, IDW Games announced it had signed J.K. Woodward and Dave Dorman to be the art team for their launch title, Kill Shakespeare. Woodward’s work has been a mainstay at IDW since 2005, where he helped relaunch Fallen Angel before moving on to various Star Trek series, including last-year’s best-selling Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who maxi-series. Dave Dorman is an Eisner Award-winning artist known for his extensive work in the fantasy genre, including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and much more.

“We’ve long respected the art that both J.K. and Dave have produced over the years,” said IDW CEO Ted Adams, “and having them both be a part of the initial offering from our IDW Games division only gives our coming Kill Shakespeare game that much more individual style and excitement.”

Woodward has been brought on to create the art that will be featured on the playing cards for the game while Dorman will paint an original piece for the Kill Shakespeare box’s art. This debut title has a planned release date of June 2014.

“We’re excited to lead off the games division,” said Kill Shakespeare writer and co-creator Conor McCreary. “The lore we’ve created for Kill Shakespeare is incredibly deep and we think our fans will enjoy spending more time with the characters and world we’ve created for them.”

With a release date of next summer, the news is starting to heat up for IDW Games. Fans can go to www.idwgames.com and subscribe to a newsletter that will keep them up to date on all the latest announcements and developments.

A VOICE IN THE DARK HAS SPOKEN;
GRITTY, SUSPENSE DEBUT LEAVES READERS WANTING MORE

First issue in new dark drama series makes impressive premiere

The success story of A VOICE IN THE DARK, a recent debut from Image Comics with writing and art by disabled comic book creator Larime Taylor, continues with an immediate sell-out at the distributor level. Terry Moore (Strangers in Paradise, Rachel Rising) likened the story to “Strangers in Paradise meets Dexter.”

Detailing the story of serial killer Zoey as she embarks on her freshman year of college and tries to control her dark killing urges, A VOICE IN THE DARK is the first in the new ongoing series and took a more circuitous route to publication than most. “The idea was to fund a single issue as a submission package, to show that I can do the whole package and finish a project,” explained Taylor, when asked why he decided to use Kickstarter as a vehicle for the idea. “That’s exactly what I did, and why publishers were interested in it. I gave them a finished book instead of five pages of art and a synopsis. I wouldn’t be here if not for the backers of that Kickstarter.”

Taylor wrote, drew, toned, and lettered A VOICE IN THE DARK using his mouth and a Wacom Cintiq tablet donated to him by the Wacom company. “I draw on a tablet screen with the stylus in my mouth. I’ve been drawing with my mouth since I was four years old, but drawing digitally has really freed me,” said Taylor, who was born with Arthrogryposis, a birth defect which severely limits the use of his arms and legs. “Because I can zoom in and out, rotate images, move them around, I’m no longer restricted by the limited reach and range of my neck, or by the fact that I draw smoother lines horizontally than I do vertically.”

A VOICE IN THE DARK #1 has completely sold out at the distributor level, but may still be available in comic stores, and is currently available digitally on the Image Comics website (imagecomics.com) and the official Image Comics iOS app, as well as on Comixology on the web (comixology.com), iOS, and Android.

Image Comics is pleased to announce that this first issue will be going back to print to meet customer demand. The second printing of A VOICE IN THE DARK #1 (Diamond Code OCT138157) will release on 12/18.

A VOICE IN THE DARK #2 releases 12/18 and is available for pre-order with Diamond Code OCT130632.

Violenzia
Fantagraphics Books Partners With ComiXology to Debut Violenzia
Fantagraphics Books’ First Digital Exclusive Comic
November 20th, 2013 – Seattle, WA/New York, NY – Fantagraphics Books, publisher of the world’s greatest cartoonists, partners with comiXology, the revolutionary cloud-based digital comics platform, to debut Fantagraphics’ first original, digital exclusive comic book: Violenzia. Written and illustrated by acclaimed creator Richard Sala (Delphine, Cat Burglar Black), Violenzia is an all-new, full-color, $5.99, 50-page one-shot exclusively available today across comiXology’s entire platform including iPhone, iPad, Android, Kindle Fire, Windows 8 and comiXology.com.
"Let there be no mercy or forgiveness for they have shown none." With these words, whispered into the wind, a mysterious young woman leaps into action with wild abandon, twin automatics blazing. Is she a brave and reckless heroine taking on a monstrous evil? Or is she a deranged angel of death? One thing is clear, whether she is dropping from a high window into a crowd of red-robed fanatical cultists, or facing down a horde of psychotic hillbillies, you don't want to get in Violenzia’s way.
"This is a new model for us," said Fantagraphics Associate Publisher Eric Reynolds. "Not a better model, but a different model. Richard Sala is one of our most beloved authors, and recently he has built up a considerable and new following online, via his Tumblr and other social media, so when he proposed Violenzia it seemed like the perfect opportunity to experiment with a digital-only release."
"We’re thrilled that Fantagraphics partnered with us to bring Richard Sala's beautiful and hilarious Violenzia to comiXology and our worldwide audience," said comiXology co-founder and CEO David Steinberger. "Readers and fans will also be treated to experiencing this amazing work in comiXology’s cinematic Guided View reading technology."
A fast moving, self-contained story, Violenzia is a blast of pulpy fun, told in scenes of audacious action and splashes of rich watercolors. With elements of golden age comics and old movies mixed with Sala's trademark humor and sense of the absurd, Violenzia is serious fun, a bloody enigma masked as eye candy, a puzzle box riddled with bullet holes.
Violenzia is the latest story by Sala featuring heroines (or anti-heroines) who are quirky, mysterious and unpredictable — such as Peculia (PECULIA , PECULIA AND THE GROON GROVE VAMPIRES), Judy Drood (MAD NIGHT, THE GRAVE ROBBER'S DAUGHTER), and K Westree (CAT BURGLAR BLACK), and features the same distinctive mixture of mystery, violence and humor as his books THE CHUCKLING WHATSIT, THE HIDDEN and DELPHINE.
Look for Violenzia out today on comiXology.
About Fantagraphics
Fantagraphics Books has been a leading proponent of comics as a legitimate form of art and literature since it began publishing the critical trade magazine The Comics Journal in 1976. By the early 1980s, Fantagraphics was at the forefront of the burgeoning movement to establish comics as a medium as eloquent and expressive as the more established popular arts of film, literature, poetry, et al. Fantagraphics quickly established a reputation as an advocacy publisher that specialized in seeking out and publishing the kind of innovative work that traditional comics corporations who dealt almost exclusively in super-heroes and fantasy either didn’t know existed or wouldn’t touch: serious, dramatic, historical, journalistic, political, and satirical work by a new generation of alternative cartoonists (including now-legends like Peter Bagge, Daniel Clowes, Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez, Joe Sacco and Jim Woodring) as well as many artists who gained prominence as part of the seminal underground comix movement of the '60s, such as R. Crumb and Kim Deitch. Fantagraphics has since gained an international reputation for its literate and audacious editorial standards in publishing the best cartooning from all eras and regions with exacting production values.

VIZ MEDIA’S HAIKASORU IMPRINT RELEASES AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR MIYUKI MIYABE’S APPARITIONS: THE GHOSTS OF OLD EDO

Edo, Birthplace Of Japan’s Modern Age, Is Also Home To Vengeful Ghosts Of The Past In A Gripping Horror Collection By Acclaimed Author Of BRAVE STORY And ICO: CASTLE IN THE MIST

San Francisco, CA, November 19, 2013 – VIZ Media’s Haikasoru literary imprint is proud to announce the North American release of famed Japanese author Miyuki Miyabe’s chilling collection of ghost stories – APPARITIONS: THE GHOSTS OF OLD EDO. The new release carries an MSRP of $14.99 U.S. / $16.99 CAN.

An eBook edition is also available for $8.99 (U.S. / CAN) for the Amazon Kindle, Apple’s iBooks Store, Barnes & Noble’s Nook Book Store, and the Kobo eBooks Store.

Haikasoru publishes some of the most compelling contemporary Japanese science fiction and fantasy stories for English-speaking audiences, and is the first imprint based in the U.S. dedicated to Japanese science fiction and fantasy in translation.

In old Edo, the past was never forgotten. It lived alongside the present in dark corners and in the shadows. In these tales, award-winning author Miyuki Miyabe explores the ghosts of early modern Japan and the spaces of the living world – workplaces, families, and the human soul – that they inhabit. Written with a journalistic eye and a fantasist’s heart, APPARITIONS brings the restless dead, and those who encounter them, to life.

“Miyuki Miyabe turns her thorough knowledge of Japan’s rich tradition of horror and genuinely creepy folklore into a unique collection of terrifying stories set amidst the darker shadows of Japan’s old capital in APPARITIONS: THE GHOSTS OF OLD EDO,” says Nick Mamatas, Editor, Haikasoru. “The days draw shorter, the nights longer and more ominous, and it’s a perfect time to take in this remarkable collection of ghost stories set amidst the bustling merchant culture of the classic Edo period!”

Author Miyuki Miyabe's first novel was published in 1987, and since then she has become one of Japan's most popular and best-selling authors. In 2007, Miyabe's novel, BRAVE STORY (also published North America by Haikasoru), notably won the Batchelder Award for Best Children's Book in Translation from the American Library Association. Her fantasy novels ICO: CASTLE IN THE MIST and BRAVE STORY are also available from VIZ Media’s Haikasoru imprint. APPARITIONS: THE GHOSTS OF OLD EDO is her newest book to be translated into English.
