December 3, 2014 (Los Angeles, Calif.) - In 1984, Jim Davis created an instant classic with a groundbreaking series of illustrated short stories called Garfield: His 9 Lives, setting the Fat Cat in various eras. It went on to be an animated special in 1988 with some of the most unique reimaginings of Garfield. This January, KaBOOM!, the award-winning all-ages imprint of publisher BOOM! Studios, is pleased to relive this classic with a four-part event starting in January’s Garfield #33: His 9 Lives, Part 1.

Garfield: His 9 Lives was such a fun look at everyone’s favorite Fat Cat that we couldn’t resist inviting an all-star cast of cartoonists to carry on the torch,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “This is Garfield as you’ve never seen him before, depicted in each artist’s own unique way across time, from Cave Cat to Space Cat. This is an event you won’t want to miss.”

The journey begins with “Cave Cat,” as David DeGrand (Spongebob Comics) takes us back to Garfield’s first life, during the earliest days of life on Earth. Then, Kari Smith (Plume) illustrates “King Cat,” as we see how Garfield got down in Ancient Egypt. Subsequent issues will include contributions from Frazer Irving (Batman & Robin), Andy Hirsch (Garfield), Roger Langridge (Snarked), Brittney Williams (Adventure Time), Yehudi Mercado (Rocket Salvage), and Genevieve FT (Adventure Time).

Garfield #33: His 9 Lives, Part 1 arrives in comic shops from KaBOOM! on January 7th with a cover price of $3.99 under Diamond order code NOV141154. The main cover is illustrated by series artist Andy Hirsch, with an incentive cover by Kari Smith. The Final Order Cutoff deadline for retailers is December 15th. Not sure where to find your nearest comic retailer? Use comicshoplocator.com or findacomicshop.com to find one! It’s also available for order directly from boom-studios.com.

TOOTH & CLAW gets new printing and new title:
THE AUTUMNLANDS: TOOTH & CLAW
as of second issue

The breakout new hit series from Busiek & Dewey features
alternate cover by Skottie Young on issue three

The first issue of the richly written and drawn fantasy TOOTH & CLAW will go back to print, but under a new title: THE AUTUMNLANDS. The bombshell launch by bestselling writer Kurt Busiek (Marvels, Astro City), artist Benjamin Dewey (I Was the Cat, Tragedy Series), Eisner-winning colorist Jordie Bellaire (THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS, PRETTY DEADLY), and letterer John Roshell of Comicraft will also boast an alternate cover on issue three by artist superstar Skottie Young (Rocket Raccoon, Wizard of Oz).

"The launch of our new series has gone beautifully," said Busiek. "We couldn't be happier. Well, maybe just a little happier. I'm still not sure how we managed to screw up the trademark search. But as it turns out, the title we thought was clear for use is in fact registered to someone else, which is embarrassing as all hell. Oops.

"So as of #2, the book will be titled The Autumnlands: Tooth & Claw," he went on, "and we'll do our best to make sure people won't miss it on the racks, or think it's some wholly-different series. As you'll see, we did make sure the logo will still be recognizable to the readers who snapped up #1.

"We're also thrilled that #1 sold through as fast as it did, because that means a new printing," said Busiek. "Retailers have been asking me since #1 sold out how soon a new printing would be available, and I'm very pleased to be able to say it's on the way. Plus, it'll have the new logo on it, so that gets us the right title on the book, even on a printing of #1.

"Plus," Busiek added, "the idea of the 'autumnlands' is central to how the series works and is going to progress. Now readers can get a jump on figuring out just what that means..."

Best described as Conan meets Kamandi with a Game of Thrones-style storytelling experience, Comic Book Resources says of THE AUTUMNLANDS, “each panel is worth the cover price all by itself, but combined this is a comic book that simply cannot be missed,” while Multiversity Comics raves, “This is the beauty of creativity and collaborative storytelling.”

In THE AUTUMNLANDS, a secret conclave of wizards brings a legendary champion forward through time from the forgotten past to save the world—with disastrous consequences. The story features swords, sorcery, beast-wizards, gods, sprawling animal empires, golems of radioactive decay, crystalline badlands, con women, ancient armories, young love, mystery, blood and death and treachery and destiny.

In the AUTUMNLANDS: TOOTH & CLAW #3, readers will meet Goodfoot the Sly. But is she really here to help the wizards... or herself?

THE AUTUMNLANDS: TOOTH & CLAW #1, 2nd printing (Diamond Code OCT148281) will be available on 1/7 as a double-sized 44-page issue with no ads for only $2.99.

THE AUTUMNLANDS: TOOTH & CLAW #2 Cover A by Dewey is available today, 12/3, and can be ordered with Diamond Code OCT140609. Cover B by Alex Ross is available with Diamond Code OCT140610.

THE AUTUMNLANDS: TOOTH & CLAW #3 Cover A by Dewey will be available with Diamond Code NOV140692 on 1/21/2015. Cover B by Skottie Young will be available with Diamond Code NOV140693.

Jimmy Palmiotti to Bring His Next
Original Project to BOOM! Studios

Jimmy Palmiotti
Jimmy Palmiotti

December 2, 2014 (Los Angeles, Calif.) - Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is excited to announce it will be working with longtime, respected, and widely popular comics creator Jimmy Palmiotti on a new comic series, his first-ever original title with the company. The book, co-created and co-written by Matt Brady (Warlord of Mars), will debut in March and be announced next week.

Recently, BOOM! Studios has worked on original projects with comics luminaries including George Pérez, Brian Stelfreeze, Paul Jenkins, and Mike Carey. Earlier this year in July, the publisher announced upcoming titles with J.G. Jones, Mark Waid, Frank Cho, and Grant Morrison. BOOM! continues to add to its impressive roster with the addition of  Palmiotti, who has been making comics for over 25 years and is currently working on DC Comics’ top-selling series Harley Quinn with his wife, Amanda Conner, and Painkiller Jane at Marvel Comics’ Icon imprint.

“I’ve been talking on and off for the past few years with Ross and Filip about bringing something to them,” said Palmiotti, referring to BOOM! Studios’ CEO Ross Richie and President of Publishing & Marketing Filip Sablik. “Matt and I were looking for the right company to bring our creation to. We thought BOOM! was the perfect fit for the project. We’re looking forward to announcing it next week.“

“I’ve been reading Jimmy’s work for years and I’m a fan of the complex character-driven stories he tells. We’ve wanted to work with him for a long time, and I’m glad we’re finally able to do so,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “We look forward to sharing information on this new series with everybody very soon!”

Jimmy Palmiotti began his career working as an inker alongside frequent collaborator Joe Quesada and eventually began writing as well, going on to work on such titles as Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Punisher, Jonah Hex, and Deadpool. He and Quesada spearheaded the creation of the Marvel Knights line, and the pair also created Ash and Painkiller Jane together for their company Event Comics, the latter of which was adapted into a TV movie for SyFy Channel. Palmiotti is currently president of PaperFilms Entertainment and is co-writing Harley Quinn and Star Spangled War Stories for DC Comics monthly.

JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS Get A Comic Book Series That Is Truly Outrageous!
It’s Showtime (Synergy) At IDW Publishing

San Diego, CA (December 2, 2014) – IDW Publishing is excited to expand its long relationship with Hasbro and welcome JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS to the world of comic books. Starting in March 2015, Jem and company will star in their first ongoing series! The creative team bringing this world full of fashion, art, action, and style to life is writer Kelly Thompson (Storykiller, The Girl Who Would Be King) and artist Ross Campbell (Glory, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), with subscription covers by Sara Richard (My Little Pony, Kitty and Dino).

It’s the 21st century, and Jem and The Holograms are 21st century girls! Meet Jerrica Benton, the gifted singer of The Holograms, a band that has the right look and the right sound… But one thing is holding them back—Jerrica’s crippling stage fright. Luckily, Jerrica is about to find help in the most unlikely of places when she discovers a forgotten present left by her father. And what she finds is truly outrageous!

"As a kid I was a huge fan of the original 80's JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS cartoon and so the chance to breathe new life into it for a savvy modern audience, not to mention to work with Ross, an artist practically destined to draw this book, is really a dream come true," said series writer, Kelly Thompson.

Don’t miss the chance to get the five stunning rainbow foil covers that will be available for Issue One—one for each Hologram by artist Amy Mebberson (My Little Pony, Pocket Princesses), plus the whole band by series artist Ross Campbell—in a deluxe rainbow foil and hologram collectible box. A second box set for Issue two will feature another set of four covers by Mebberson and a group shot by Campbell—this time starring Jem’s greatest nemeses, The Misfits!

“Getting a JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS comic going was a top priority for me when I started at IDW,” says Senior Editor John Barber. “It took three years, but Kelly and Ross came in with a style and attitude that really got Jem. They understand Jem’s appeal—I can’t overstate the impact Jem has had on generations of fans and readers.”

The beloved animated show JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS debuted on television in 1985, alongside a very successful toyline by Hasbro. The show was geared towards young females but was unlike any “girls show” before as it featured a strong female lead and mixed elements of science fiction, adventure, and romance.

Hasbro announced earlier this year that a live-action, motion-picture adaptation of JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS from Universal Pictures starring Aubrey Peeples and directed by Jon M. Chu is slated for release October 2015.

Bravo’s First Scripted Series “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce”
Starring Lisa Edelstein, Paul Adelstein, Beau Garrett and Janeane Garofalo
Premieres On Tuesday, December 2 at 10p.m. ET/PT

Second Episode Will Be Available on VOD and Bravo Now Beginning Wednesday, December 3

“Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce,” Bravo’s first scripted series premiering Tuesday, December 2 at 10p.m. ET/PT, follows Abby McCarthy (Lisa Edelstein, “House”), a self-help book author and guru of all things family, who shocks the world when she reveals that her seemingly perfect life has all been a lie.  After publicly admitting that she has separated from her husband, Jake (Paul Adelstein, “Private Practice”), America’s once-favorite girlfriend finds her career and marriage in a free fall. As she starts to navigate life as a single woman in her 40s, Abby turns to her new divorced friends Lyla (Janeane Garofalo, “Reality Bites”) and (Beau Garrett, “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior”), rather than her married ones, for advice. When she hires Delia (Necar Zadegan, “Emily Owens, MD”) as her divorce attorney, Abby’s brother Max (Patrick Heusinger, “Royal Pains”), who fought hard for the right to marry, questions his sister on how she can so easily decide to walk away from her own marriage.  Abby is on a journey of self-discovery as she attempts to salvage her career, get back in the dating game and figure out her new identity as a single woman.  As she hits the reset button on her life, she embarks on startling adventures and mishaps along the way, including her first post-marriage hook-up, a blog post gone horribly wrong and a Vegas trip that leads to some unexpected complications.  And, while in the process of trying and failing to have the “perfect divorce,” Abby ultimately questions whether her marriage is worth saving.
