The Harvey Awards, named in honor of the late Harvey Kurtzman, one of the industry's most innovative talents, are a comic-book industry staple. They have been presented to the best and brightest writers, artists, creators, and publications for over 20 years. They are the only industry award that is decided entirely by peers. Only industry professionals are allowed to vote.

The Harvey final ballot for 2008 will be released to the voting public in late April. Again, only professionals will be permitted to vote with this ballot.

The Harveys will be presented to the recipients on September 27, 2008 in Baltimore , Maryland as part of the Baltimore Comic-Con. The dinner and awards ceremony is a gala event, featuring awards recipients and presenters celebrating the best work of 2007. In the past two years, featured participants have included Kyle Baker, Jerry Robinson, Sergio Aragonés, John Romita Sr., George Perez, Joe Kubert, Erik Larsen, Dean Haspiel, Rich Koslowski, Alex Robinson, James Jean, and Paul Pope.

In addition to these participants, publishers like Dark Horse Comics, DC Comics, Gemstone Publishing, Image Comics, Marvel Comics, Top Shelf Productions, and Top Cow Productions have been represented as participants and sponsors.

As in 2007, attendees of the 2008 Harvey Awards Ceremonies will receive a Hollywood style swag bag. Last years bag included The EC Archives: Two-Fisted Tales Volume 1, a complete base set of the soon to be released Jericho Season One trading cards from Inkworks, an exclusive pin from AdHouse Books, a Comic-Con exclusive edition of 30 Days of Night: Red Snow #1 from IDW Publishing, a Toon Tumbler from Popfun Merchandising, and an exclusive Harvey Awards keychain from LaserMach.
