Ape Entertainment To Publish Strawberry Shortcake

Loveable 80s icon set to return to comic books

October 09, 2010: As part of its New York Comic Con announcements, Ape Entertainment has revealed today that it will publish comic books based on the immensely popular property Strawberry Shortcake. Owned by American Greetings Properties, the intellectual property and outbound licensing division of American Greetings Corporation (NYSE: AM), Strawberry Shortcake shot to fame in the early 1980s and has been a beloved staple of both children and adults ever since.

“The great thing about Strawberry Shortcake is that it crosses generations and brings parents and kids together,” says founder and co-publisher David Hedgecock. “Unlike a lot of comics found on the shelves today, this is a property that the entire family can enjoy. It’s both nostalgic and new, all at the same time.”

Published under the company’s all-ages imprint, Kizoic, Strawberry Shortcake comic books will reach stores in early 2011 with exclusive scratch & sniff covers.

Now celebrating 30 sweet years, Strawberry Shortcake has been a favorite with little girls and moms alike, teaching wholesome values, going on fantasy adventures and proving that little girls can do big things.
