(Silver Spring, Md.)—Science Channel has been named the official broadcast partner of the inaugural 2014 BREAKTHROUGH PRIZES, a one-of-a-kind global event which rewards and recognizes some of the greatest minds in the science world.  Join celebrities from Hollywood and the world’s greatest thinkers as they pay tribute to the most magnanimous minds in the science world today.  Hosted by Kevin Spacey, Laureates will be joined by Conan O’ Brien, Glenn Close, Rob Lowe, Michael C. Hall, Mark Zuckerberg, Sergey Brin and Anne Wojcicki, Jimmy Wales and Yuri Milner among others.   This prestigious event also includes a special performance by Grammy nominated artist Lana Del Rey.  The world premiere special 2014 BREAKTHOUGH PRIZES  will debut on Science Channel on Monday, January 27 at 9PM ET/PT

The 2014 BREAKTHROUGH PRIZES were founded by Silicon Valley’s elite minds.  The goal of the awards is to recognize excellence in research aimed at curing terminal diseases and ultimately extending and enhancing human life.  This award not only celebrates scientists who are already in the field but ultimately hopes to generate excitement in the pursuit of science as a career for others around the world. Laureates receive a total of $21 million in grant money to fund their research and bring their advances to the forefront of medicine and technology.  And Science Channel will allow viewers to see the winners and learn about their incredible journeys before anyone else.

The ceremony takes place at the NASA Ames Research Center in Northern California as we celebrate the pinnacle of scientific innovation with celebrities of both worlds joining together for a generous cause.
