VINCENT PRICE PRESENTS GOES TO THE MOVIES AND GETS NEW BLOOD.

Bluewater's popular gothic horror series "Vincent Price Presents" has been featured in “Fangoria”, “Horror Hound” and “Rue Morgue”. The comic series will now include Price’s iconic movie roles such as "DR Phibes," "The Tingler" and "House of Usher".

"What most people do not realize about this series is these stories are one shots,” said Publisher Darren G. Davis "Each of the 24-page comics is set up like an episode of the “Twilight Zone”. It makes every issue a great place for new readers to jump into the series”.

Bluewater's series “Vincent Price Presents” is described as: One of classic Hollywood's most famous scary men, Vincent Price made a name for himself in classic mysteries and thrillers throughout the 1940's, 50's and 60's. Now Vincent Price Presents comes to Bluewater Productions as their 1st ongoing monthly series. The series will feature some of Price’s films as well as developing new frightening ones with his estate. Welcome back to the macabre world of Vincent Price.

Pat Broderick is penciling new issues of “Vincent Price Presents”. Broderick is best known for his work on the Mirconauts. Broderick also penciled the four-part Batman: Year 3 story line, written by Marv Wolfman, which detailed the first meeting of Batman & Tim Drake. Also has penciled for other DC Comics titles “The Fury of Firestorm” and “Captain Atom”.

“Being a 55 year old adult I grew up with Vincent Price”. Said artist Pat Broderick, “His tremendous body of work entertained a young man who was lucky enough to be aloud to stay up past midnight to watch all of his classic horror movies. Those were the best, no hacking, no guts in your face. When Bluewater offered me this I knew that it would be fun. I approached the storytelling in a wide screen story boarding format, which is perfect for this story”

Mark L. Miller who will be writing “The Tingler” has been reviewing comics for “Ain't It Cool News.com” under the penname Ambush Bug. Mark's short comic fiction has been published in Cream City Comics “Muscles and Fights 3” and it's spin-off Muscles and Frights”.

Mel Smith & Clark Castillo who are the creative team behind Image Comics
"Dead Ahead" series has developed one of the two sequels featuring the cult character “DR. Phibes”. Adriano, who developed a graphic novel featuring Baron Münchausen, created the other “DR Phibes” comic.

“Vincent Price Presents” #5 will be in stores this month with a cover by Joel Robinson. In April, “Vincent Price Presents: Gallery of Terror” one-shot which features images of classic gothic horror icon Vincent Price.

DARK HORSE SALUTES THE DARK ANGEL, BETTIE PAGE

FEBRUARY 2, MILWAUKIE, OR — In December 2008, the world bid a sad farewell to one of the most celebrated and imitated glamour icons in history. Throughout the 1950s, Bettie Page carved her own niche in the popular pinup photography industry by seamlessly melding her college-coed, southern-belle charm with some of the most risqué themes and poses of the day. Her trademark bangs became the unofficial badge of honor for girls in the rockabilly revival movement of the ‘80s and ‘90s, and her style still resonates throughout the world today.

Dark Horse Comics has paid homage to Bettie and her good-girl-gone-bad persona for the better part of the past decade, producing over one hundred licensed products for Bettie Page collectors to enjoy. Continuing the tradition, this spring will see the addition of two new items to their extensive list of collectibles for the Bettie Page fan. Dark Horse attempts to bring the same sense of fun that Bettie herself brought to her photo sessions with two new coffee mugs, both featuring a photograph taken by world-famous model-turned-photog Bunny Yeager. The first mug depicts Bettie looking sultry as ever in her infamous leopard bikini with a background of tan leopard spots. The second mug features a variant of the same photo, with a twist. Bettie is wearing a black bikini against a background of blue leopard spots; when filled with a hot beverage, the spots fade to a solid blue background as the bikini fades to reveal a topless Bettie Page!

“It has been a real thrill to work with Bettie over the years,” Product Development head David Scroggy recalled. “While we have always had fun with her image, as Bettie herself did, we have also always treated her with respect and affection. Everything we have done to date has been officially licensed as well, as are these new mugs. I hope everyone who winds up with one of these mugs likes their coffee extra hot!”

Both mugs will be available at retail stores in May, with a suggested price of $12.99 (non-changing) and $14.99 (heat-sensitive).

PHILIP MORRIS AND DEKKER DREYER PRESENT NEW SERIES, “EMISSARY”

NEW YORK, NY – February 3rd, 2009 –All those attending New York Comic Con are invited to a special panel presentation of “Emissary” the new series starring Philip Morris. The panel takes place Friday, February 6th at 6pm and will include the first look at Emissary’s teaser footage and a Q&A with the stars.

Emissary is the story of anthropologist Campbell Essex discovering his destiny as the latest in a line of “Emissaries” or peak humans. Constantly pursued by ancient enemies who seek his power, Campbell struggles to overcome his own limitations before it’s too late.
The series, created by Philip Morris and Dekker Dreyer, spans several hundred years and touches on serious issues of what it means to be human while bringing a new level of brutal realism to the sci-fi / fantasy genre.

“As an actor, I have had wonderful experiences in the sci-fi / action-adventure world. With "Emissary", I get a chance to bring my own sense of expression to this vital genre, as an actor, producer, and writer. I also get the chance to use skills that the audience may not know that I truly possess, like the martial arts. In meeting Dekker Dreyer and collaborating with him, it has all come together, and I'm very grateful. I am excited to bring this to the fans, and hope that they appreciate what we're doing. Being a comic book geek myself, it's important to me to honor the fans with this material. We're a picky bunch, and if they like it, I will be happy.” – Philip Morris, co-creator.

With New York City being the primary backdrop for the first leg of the series, the creative team hopes to craft a rich bed to the action.

“I live in NYC and there are plenty of strange things that happen there every day. We wanted danger to be around every corner. Old buildings, old mysteries… strange people, those things excite me. At its core Emissary is a fantastic story and it’s easy for a show to stretch too far from a believable, grounded universe. Phil and I are both big fans of hiding the extraordinary inside the everyday. Here we have elements of a dark real-world story, but ultimately it’s a hopeful fantasy.” – Dekker Dreyer, co-creator.

The Emissary cast includes Philip Morris (Smallville), Aaron Douglas (Battlestar Galactica), Brian Thompson (X-File, Star Trek: Enterprise) and Emmy nominee Thaao Penghlis with additional cast members Yuri Lowenthal and J LaRose in attendance at the NYCC panel.
The series, produced by Mnemosyne LLC and the Emissary Partners, is scheduled to begin production in late 2009 currently slated for IPTV distribution.

The premiere show, entitled "L8S ANG3LES" will comprise of images from eight Los Angeles-based photographers in the genres of fine art, architecture, documentary, fashion, photojournalism and celebrity portraits. The artists contributing to the group show, are among the most respected in their fields; John Baldessari, Catherine Opie, Greg Gorman, Douglas Kirkland, Tim Street-Porter, Julius Shulman, Lauren Greenfield, and Carolyn Cole. The exhibit will also include work from Los Angeles Times staff photographers depicting life in this city; Lawrence Ho, Genaro Molina, and Kirk McKoy. Following a Gala premiere on March 25, the exhibit will open to the public on Friday, March 27 and close on June 20, 2009.

Located on the former site of the Shubert Theater, the Photography Space is a 10,000 square foot facility. The dynamic exhibition space will feature, along with a traditional print gallery, a state-of-the-art digital presentation system capable of sharing an unprecedented number of photographs with the public in large and high-resolution format. This system can also simultaneously show adjacent video of the photographers discussing their work.

The selected work of the artists, though greatly contrasting in style and tone, all speak to the mission of the Photography Space, which is to celebrate photography as an art form and present images focused on the human condition. Anne Wilkes Tucker, Gus and Lyndall Wortham Curator of Photography from the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, served as Special Advisor for the opening installation. Of the artists featured in "L8S ANG3LES" Ms. Tucker comments, "The vision of these photographers reflects the vast talent and energy that have made Los Angeles into a world class city in less than a century."

Annenberg Foundation Vice President, Wallis Annenberg, commented, "I have a passion for photography and a great pride in the fine city of Los Angeles. I am thrilled that artists of this magnitude are taking part in our inaugural show and know that through their brilliance they will bring great inspiration to the visitors of this new space which we are creating and operating as a gift to the community."

The exhibit will include work from:
· John Baldassari (www.baldessari.com) John Baldassari is one of the most sought after artists of our time. He is a recipient of the Americans for the Arts lifetime achievement award and the Governor's Award for Lifetime Achievement in Visual Arts in California. He has shown his work in over 200 solo exhibitions, and taken part in more than 750 group shows. Employing humor and irony to convey his thoughts, he takes his own photographs or appropriates images from popular culture to make large scale artworks.

· Carolyn Cole is a staff photographer for the Los Angeles Times. She won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography in 2004, for her coverage of the siege of Monrovia, the capital of Liberia. Ms. Cole has specialized in photographs of children living in war torn areas such as Israel, Liberia and Iraq, but her newest coverage has ranged from the Israeli war with Gaza to the recent inauguration of Barack Obama. She has repeatedly placed herself in situations of danger around the world in order to report on issues that she believes should be covered.

· Greg Gorman (www.greggormanphotography.com) Greg Gorman began his career in 1968 when he photographed a Jimi Hendrix concert, which led to coverage of the sixties rock movement. Over the decades, he has captured famous people in film, music, sports and the art world, ranging from Bette Davis and Leonardo DiCaprio to David Hockney and Philip Johnson. Working in a high key, black and white style, he developed a distinctive look for his images, which he later brought to his photographs of nudes. He has also produced music videos.

· Lauren Greenfield (www.laurengreenfield.com) Lauren Greenfield's work features the dark side of the idealized world of stardom and celebrity. Her work focuses on issues relating to youth culture, gender identity, body image, eating disorders, money and the influence of popular culture on how we live. Ms. Greenfield has published several books and has directed a feature-length documentary entitled Thin, as well as the follow-up short film kids + money for HBO.

· Douglas Kirkland (www.douglaskirkland.com) Douglas Kirkland became famous for his photographs of Marilyn Monroe in 1961 and has since photographed generations of actors, ranging from those of the Golden Age to today. He is also known for his work as a set photographer having work on more than one hundred films, including 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Sound of Music, Out of Africa, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Titanic and most recently Australia. He began his career as a staff photographer for Look and Life magazines and has continued to freelance for major publications.

· Catherine Opie came to art-world prominence in the mid-1990s as an artist specializing in issues within portraiture and documentary photography. Throughout her work she has investigated aspects of social culture, taking portraits of many groups including the gay and lesbian community, surfers, and most recently high school football players. Ms. Opie has also focused on the cultural and literal landscapes in and around various cities in the United States, including Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and Pittsburg where she's explored how identities are projected by our architecture.

· Julius Shulman For over 72-years Julius Shulman has played a major role in crafting the images of the Los Angeles and Southern California lifestyle as they came to be perceived by the world. He is best known for his iconic photographs of landmark buildings such as the Kaufman House in Palm Springs, "Case Study House #22" and the Stahl House designed by Pierre Koenig, where he used people to humanize the cool international style. He continues to photograph today.

· Timothy Street-Porter (www.timstreet-porter.com) Tim Street-Porter has documented architecture for nearly 30 years. Through his lens visitors can see a Los Angeles that no longer exists, as well as new buildings such as the Disney Center and the restorations of historical modern and vernacular architectural treasures. He was inspired by the city's unique quality of light, which he has used to great effect over the years with his eloquent photographs.

The Photography Space will also offer the public programs, which will include lectures and workshops related to "L8S ANG3LES." Additional dates will be announced as available. Online registration for all events, unless otherwise noted, will begin March 27, 2009 at www.annenbergspaceforphotography.org.

Mutant Cinema: The X-Men Trilogy from Comics to Screen examines the history of X-Men comics and how they were adapted and changed for the screen. The book is written by Thomas J. McLean (Variety, Newsarama), a life-long X-Men fan as well as a Hollywood insider.

Published by Sequart Research & Literacy Organization, Mutant Cinema is now available exclusively from Diamond Comic Distributors and the Previews catalog (order code FEB094600). Also, it sports a cover by award-winning artist Kevin Colden (Fishtown).

The book is the definitive unauthorized study of the popular movie saga, including:
• The history of X-Men comic books;
• Detailed scene-by-scene examinations of each film and the comic book stories that infuse every aspect of the movies;
• The development process for each film, including behind-the-scenes stories, interviews with the screenwriters, and details on omitted scenes and storylines;
• Previous adaptations, including early cartoon appearances, the successful 1990s animated series, and initial attempts to bring the mutants to the big screen;
• Critical and fan receptions of each film, plus box-office performances; and
• What the future may hold for the franchise.

"The films gave Tom a great reason to examine some of Marvel's best-known comics," says editor Mike Phillips. "He didn't disappoint. Almost every scene in the trilogy was spawned by some classic storyline, and Tom brings all of those connections to light."

Not only is Mutant Cinema (softcover, 6x9 in, 320 pgs, B&W) accessible to comics and movie fans alike, it's the essential guide to the films for both die-hard fans and newcomers.

Again, the book is available only through Diamond Comic Distributors and the Previews catalog (order code FEB094600). Any comic book store can order one for you, but don't assume that your store will order a copy unless you ask.

Scott McCloud to be Published by First Second

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

New York, NY; January 30, 2009—First Second Books announced today that it will publish two upcoming works by Scott McCloud, the award-winning author of the widely-acclaimed Understanding Comics and its followups, Reinventing Comics and Making Comics. A new work of graphic fiction, tentatively titled “The Sculptor,” is slated for publication in Spring 2013 and will be followed by a non-fiction book.

First Second’s Editorial Director Mark Siegel says, “Scott McCloud’s accomplishments are considerable: as spokesman and champion of the medium of comics, as its great explainer and theorist, as its dedicated practitioner. Scott has now tasked himself with an ambitious pole-vault into adult fiction—a great American graphic novel.”

Understanding Comics, McCloud’s seminal work, was published in 1993 and was translated into 16 languages. Reinventing Comics (2000) and Making Comics (2006) cemented his reputation as one of the most in-demand experts on the medium. McCloud’s U.S. author tour in support of Making Comics covered all 50 states, and tens of thousands have attended his lively speaking appearances at universities, corporations, and media.

McCloud has won the grand-slam of Eisner, Harvey, Inkpot and Kirby Awards (the highest awards in the comics industry), and he has been recognized by both his peers and critics as one of the most respected voices in the field. His international reputation has earned him the Alph Art Award (critics prize) at the prestigious annual Comics Festival in Angouleme, France, England’s coveted Eagle Award, and the Finnish Lempi International Award. In 2002 the Association of Educational Publishers awarded McCloud its Distinguished Achievement Award, and in 2007, Making Comics won the Quill Award for Graphic Novels.

Of this new editorial partnership, McCloud commented: “I’m thrilled to be working with First Second. I’ve been in contact with Mark Siegel since the line launched and have watched with admiration as their catalog has grown in depth, breadth and quality, including some of my favorite new artists working on upcoming projects. This is a forward-looking team that understands comics, and can match my enthusiasm for its endless possibilities.”

The deal was brokered by Scott McCloud’s agent Judy Hansen of the Hansen Literary Agency, who feels that McCloud and First Second “will be an impressive match.” Film agent for the Hansen Agency, Nick Harris of Rabineau Wachter Sanford & Harris adds, “We’ve no doubt this will be a hugely commercial film property, as well—one that Hollywood is already taking notice of.”

Dick Tracy Relaunched: Bigger is Better!

(San Diego, CA; January 30, 2009) -- IDW's successful Complete Dick Tracy series is getting bigger…and better. CEO Ted Adams, who initiated the series and edited its first six volumes, has announced that Tracy is being folded into IDW's Library of American Comics imprint, alongside Terry and the Pirates, Little Orphan Annie, and other classic newspaper strip titles.

Eisner award-winner Dean Mullaney is assuming the helm of the series with volume 7 of Chester Gould's masterpiece, covering more than 600 chronological dailies and Sundays from 1941 to 1943. "This is a dream come true for me," says Mullaney. "Dick Tracy was the first newspaper strip I remember reading as a child. Over 46 years, Chester Gould's bold stories and iconic, diagrammatical drawing style created a unified whole that put Tracy in the pantheon of classic comic strips."

The first big change readers will notice is in the size of each book, matching the larger format of Terry and the Pirates. "Each Sunday strip will be 40% larger," Mullaney notes. "Some times bigger is better, especially as we enter Gould's most famous decade -- the 1940s -- and the introduction of one grand, grotesque villain after another: The Mole, B.B. Eyes, Pruneface, Laffy, The Brow, and Flattop. During this time, Gould could barely keep up with his own imagination, as he also unveiled an ever-expanding cast of supporting characters, such as Gravel Gertie, B.O. Plenty, Vitamin Flintheart, and Diet Smith." The series will also sport a new cover design.

Size isn't the only change coming to the series. The scope of the introductory essays is broadening, to offer readers a fuller and more complete history of the strip and its creator, similar in approach to the universally-acclaimed essays for which the Library of American Comics has become noted.

"We're incredibly excited to announce that we've partnered with the Chester Gould family, the Dick Tracy Museum, and the Shel Dorf collection," Mullaney and Adams explain. "These unique, invaluable resources allow us to add rarely seen art and photographs to these definitive archival editions."

Each volume in the series will now include a biographical and historical essay by Jeff Kersten of the Dick Tracy Museum, based on never-before-seen family and museum archives, in addition to the continuing insightful story analysis provided by Max Allan Collins.

Dick Tracy vol. 7 will be on sale late April, and will be published on a quarterly schedule.

The first twelve issues of the series will feature incentive covers by hot newcomer Jeffrey Spokes that will spell out I-R-R-E-D-E-E-M-A-B-L-E! The first issue incentive cover will be a special 1-in-50 rarity with every copy signed by Mark Waid. IRREDEEMABLE issue #1 will also feature a special afterword by Grant Morrison.

Peter (POWER OF SHAZAM) Krause has committed to doing the interiors for the first twelve issues.

"In superhero comics, pretty much everyone who's called upon to put on a cape is, at heart, emotionally equipped for the job. I reject that premise," said series writer and BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Mark Waid. "IRREDEEMABLE is, in a way, my third and most complex chapter on the cost of superheroics - a pulp adventure tale of horror exploring how the lessons we learn about right and wrong as children can become warped and twisted when challenged by the realities of the adult world. "

"IRREDEEMABLE is a fresh start, a way to enjoy superhero comics without forty to eighty years of back story and following dozens of titles," said BOOM! Studios managing editor Matt Gagnon. "It's the superhero book fans have been waiting for!"

IRREDEEMABLE #1 features variant covers by John Cassaday and Barry Kitson in a 75/25 split with incentive covers by Jeffrey Spokes and is a "Featured Item" in the Diamond Previews Catalog with an order code of FEB094134.

Radical’s Shrapnel an explosive hit with the critics

January 28th, 2009 – Released in early January, Radical Publishing’s newest title, SHRAPNEL: ARISTEIA RISING, has quickly garnered rave attention from retailers, reviewers and fans.

Co-created by Mark Long and Nick Sagan, SHRAPNEL represents Radical’s biggest publishing commitment to date, with the first of three miniseries, ARISTEIA RISING, written by M. Zachary Sherman and painted by Bagus Hutomo. The Jan. 19 edition of The Philadelphia Daily News offers glowing support for the series, concluding: “If you want a book that's different, with a heroine to root for, that reads and looks like a film and that packs a whopping 48 pages in between its covers for only $1.99, SHRAPNEL: ARISTEIA RISING No. 1 is for you."

“We made our biggest commitment to release SHRAPNEL, and I’m just as excited about the series now as when Mark and Nick first showed it to me,” says Radical Publishing’s President and Publisher Barry Levine. “The overwhelming response from just the first issue is amazing. And from having read the story, I know that readers are going to want to stay with this for the long haul.”

“The reaction to the book, for me at least, was completely unexpected,” Sherman adds. “I'm very excited to see the response that it’s getting. Mark and Nick's vision of a dystopian future with a universe at war was one I saw in my head immediately, and it’s been a pleasure to contribute to that.”

Other reviews for SHRAPNEL: ARISTEIA RISING include:

"Hardcore science fictions fan should not miss this." --IGN

"Intense and intelligent story partnered with art that makes your eyes drool." --Ain't It Cool News

"It is, in a word, epic." --The Scoop

"What a great book! Radical hits another one out of the park with this 48-page premiere issue." --Comic Book Page

"Overall Grade: A. SHRAPNEL delivers a high octane future war story with characters that you want to know. Run out to your local store and get this book." --Comics And...

"Honestly, this is one the best books I've reviewed." --Comics Bulletin

"SHRAPNEL epitomizes everything that sci-fi comics should be." --Twelve Fingers

"This is a great beginning to a sci-fi comic series." --Project Fanboy

"People looking for science fiction, especially with a bit of a harder edge, should check this one out." --Comixtreme

“The reviews have been great, but what I find most satisfying is that the reviewers have recognized Zack’s more subtle, political themes of the series and the bold departure of Kai’s art,” says Long. Adds Sagan, “It’s gratifying that SHRAPNEL is being received so well, and I’m very happy that all the hard work that went into it is shining through.”

SHRAPNEL: ARISTEIA RISING #1 is currently on sale now. To find a comic shop near you, call 1-888-comicbook.

SHRAPNEL: ARISTEIA RISING #2 goes on sale Feb. 4 with two covers: one by Arthur Suydam (Diamond Code: DEC084205) and one by Gerhard Mozsi (Diamond Code: DEC084206).

SHRAPNEL: ARISTEIA RISING #3 appears in the January 2009 Diamond Previews catalogue, to ship March 2009 with two covers: one by Marek Okon (Diamond Code: JAN094398) and one by Borkur Eiriksson (Diamond Code: JAN094399).

Death Ray and Maya Partner to bring Dark Horse Comic

El Zombo to the Big Screen

Hollywood, CA. Jan. 26 - Death Ray Films and Maya Entertainment team up to bring the acclaimed Dark Horse comic book El Zombo Fantasma to the big screen.

El Zombo Fantasma, published by Dark Horse Comics in 2005, created by David Wilkins and Kevin Munroe, will be produced under the Death Ray Films banner recently formed by Chris Patton, Kevin Munroe and Robert Sanchez who are currently in production on War Monkeys.

The story follows the mysterious murder of the world's most notorious Mexican wrestler who bargains his way out of an eternity of fiery damnation by returning to Los Angeles to play guardian angel to a troublesome teen, Belisa Montoya. He soon discovers that the teen is not what she seems and that their fates have been intertwined for centuries.

Death Ray Films and Maya Entertainment will bring tales of the undead masked wrestler to multiple mediums starting with the live action feature followed by a new animated series.

Kevin Munroe will write and direct with Chris Patton and Robert Sanchez producing. Wilkins and Munroe will co-produce. Mike Richardson will executive produce for Dark Horse Entertainment.

Jose Martinez and Kellvin Chavez will produce along with Academy Award nominee Moctesuma Esparza who will executive produce for Maya Entertainment.

“Zombo started years ago as just a geeky idea between two friends who worked at the same video game company,” says Munroe. “But Dave and I always knew that the property had a broader appeal than just its publishing roots, and now we'll see it finally reach an entirely new audience. I'm thrilled to be a part of creating this new breed of superhero for the big screen.”

"As a Cuban-American in this industry, I see El Zombo as a unique property that will not only showcase Latinos but also appeal to all audiences. It has action, romance, redemption and wrestling, it's a Latin Hellboy," says Robert Sanchez. "It's the prefect date movie!"

“El Zombo is an extremely cool superhero and it's tremendous, pile-driving fun,” says Kellvin Chavez. “As a fan of wrestling, I used to watch 'Santo, el Enmascarado de Plata' one of the most famous Mexican free wrestlers, so I was excited by this project.”

“We are excited to work with Death Ray and Dark Horse on El Zombo as it furthers our goal of bringing Latino themes and Latino talent to the commercial market,” says Jose Martinez Jr. for Maya. “We plan to blow this out in a big way so that everyone can enjoy this awesome idea.

Anthony Daniels and his alter ego C-3PO play a pivotal role in “Trespass,” an all-new episode of the hit animated series STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, premiering at 9 p.m. ET/PT Friday, Jan. 30, on Cartoon Network.

While investigating the disappearance of a clone security force on a fiercly inhospitable ice world, Anakin and Obi-Wan are caught in the middle of a conflict between the planet’s natives and the greedy representatives of a nearby moon. In an effort to broker a tentative peace, Anakin turns to C-3PO for help – and finds his fluency in more than 6 million forms of communication to be most useful.

Daniels has played C-3PO on screen in all six STAR WARS movies, and has continued in the role since the inception of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS. With the animated series, Daniels becomes the only actor to play the same role in every on-screen incarnation of the Saga. He has also become a spokesman and host for the popular Art and Science of Star Wars exhibition around the world, and has written extensively about his experiences as a part of the Star Wars phenomenon.

“I've never left the character or, rather, he's never left me,” says Daniels. “I put him in the cupboard for a while, but people call and I take him out again. There was a time many years ago when I thought I should move on to other things, but then I thought that was stupid. I'm very fond of Threepio.”

Daniels says the voiceover performance of Threepio is a welcome respite from the rigors of bringing Threepio to the screen in live-action productions. He finds the animation process offers “quite a lot of freedom.”

“When you're reading lines by yourself, it's not always as easy to ad-lib,” Daniels says. “But what Dave (Filoni) and I do is to go over my lines before we start because, sadly, I am the world's greatest expert. And I say that with a kind of wry fun, because Threepio is kind of like my best friend, and you know your best friend better than anyone.”

Filoni says, “It was important to have Anthony as Threepio because I wanted to learn as much from him as I could. Anthony has incredible insight into every word and phrase that he says. There’s rarely a line that he won’t adapt to Threepio’s cadence, so we’ve developed a good vocabulary. We’re both excited to do new things with Threepio, and hopefully in the future, viewers will see us expand our view of the character. After all, Threepio is as much an icon of Star Wars as Darth Vader.”

In “Trespass,” Threepio presents his most proper, most effective side – that of translator. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t provide a moment or two of levity, as is usually the case with the protocol droid.

“The thing I always liked about Threepio is that he wasn't a hero – he was somebody who had no sense of humor and no sense of irony,” Daniels says. “He doesn't know that he's funny. We think he's funny because he's ridiculous, he's uptight and a bit critical and it makes us laugh at him. But his saving grace and the reason that we like him is that he's very thoughtful and very loyal. If he's on your side, you would have a friend to the end of your existence. Or probably to the end of his existence, because he's loyal to a fault, to his last nut and his last bolt.”

Daniels has a clear memory of the original reference to the Clone Wars, and the curious impression it had on the cast – though, he admits, nobody had any idea it would grow to the proportions it has achieved within the Star Wars universe.

“I was amused the other day to remember Mark Hamill going through his lines with me one day, and we both kind of looked at each other regarding this casual one-liner about ‘the Clone Wars,’” Daniels recalls. “And then of course, it got picked up in the prequels and now it's its own TV series. Animation has grown up. It's become very, very honorable, and I think Clone Wars has taken the next step.”

The holofoil cover, featuring FARSCAPE's main character John Crichton, is limited to 500 copies, and will only be available at the BOOM! Studios booth (#1313) during New York Comic Con 2009. Featuring a gold metallic finish on a cardstock cover, it will be one of the most special limited edition collectibles ever made in association with FARSCAPE due to its extremely low print run. New York Comic Con runs from Friday to Sunday February 6th - 8th, 2009 at The Javits Center in Manhattan.

This special limited edition comic is the first of an upcoming series of three special covers that will debut at a select number of comic book conventions across the country at the BOOM! Studios booth.

"When I first heard the term 'holofoil' I didn't know what to think. It's hard to describe the special metallic effect the books have. But once the issues came into the office, they blew my socks off," said Chip Mosher, Director of Sales and Marketing. "Fans are going to absolutely love them."

FARSCAPE #1 was released to near unanimous praise December 24th, 2008. After selling out in five days, FARSCAPE #1 will be receiving a second printing that will hit store shelves early February, shortly after the second issue hits the stands.

FARSCAPE #1 is written by television series creator Rockne S. O'Bannon with script by Keith R.A. DeCandido, interior art by Tommy Patterson and cover art by fan-favorites Dennis Calero and Joseph Corroney!

Picking up directly where the television miniseries FARSCAPE: THE PEACEKEEPER WARS left off, fans can look forward to show creator O'Bannon steering their favorite characters into new and original stories, keeping with the existing canon - and then extending it!

Debuting on the SCI-FI Channel in 1998, FARSCAPE follows the adventures of astronaut John Crichton, who has a freak accident during an experimental space mission that catapults him across a thousand galaxies to an alien battlefield. Suddenly, he's trapped among alien creatures wielding deadly technology - a battle that 20th century sci-fi pop culture never prepared him for. Hunted by a merciless military race, Crichton begins his quest for home from a distant galaxy.

A groundbreaking award-winning sci-fi production, FARSCAPE from The Jim Henson Company and [HALLMARK] has become a global favorite. Named by TV Guide as one of television's "Best Cult Shows Ever" and most recently named by EMPIRE Magazine as one of the "50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time," FARSCAPE is known for the overwhelming fan-based campaign that led to its miniseries production. The show has continued to find new audiences as it airs in syndication and is available on iTunes and DVD.

PHOENIX TRIO BRING INDEPENDENT PRESS ABOVE GROUND

Monday, January 26, 2009 - Phoenix, AZ - On the last weekend of April in 2009, Phoenix will be proudly hosting its first-ever small press-based zine and comics convention, aptly dubbed the Underground Publishers Convention.

This inaugural festival, which is free for all attendees, will feature some of the best local and national underground publishers of zines, comics, magazines, and books, along with handcrafted DIY items and art. The convention will also feature Skill Share Sessions, where experienced and subversive authors, artists, and publishers will give brief how-to lessons on everything from self-publishing to brewing beer, making stencils, screen printing, making public art in the community and more!

The difference between UPC and the Phoenix Cactus Comic-Con, the local comic books and pop culture convention, is that UPC focuses exclusively on underground, independent, and small press comix and zines publishers and creators.

The event will be held al fresco at Stinkweeds Record Exchange on Camelback and Central Avenue in Phoenix Arizona. UPC 2009 is being organized by local Phoenix artists and publishers Jacki O., Brandon Huigens, and Camilla Orr.

Admission to UPC is free, and the weekend will be kicked off with a free show at Conspire Boutique and Coffee House on 5th Street and Garfield on Friday night, April 24 at 8pm, featuring readings from authors, publishers, activists, entertainers, artists, and musicians.

For the entire duration of the convention, there will be an ongoing mural of live artwork, done by exhibitors and attendees, on the north side of the Stinkweeds parking lot. Giant pieces of canvas will be used to create one of the largest pieces of community art ever presented in Phoenix, after which the canvas will be cut by hand and used for next year's UPC free event programs.

After each convention day closes, there will be designated after-party spots at some of Phoenix's finest establishments like The Lost Leaf, The Bikini Lounge, and The Roosevelt, complete with musical entertainment from a few of Phoenix's finest bands and musicians.

Come join us for a weekend of zines, comics, skillshares, music, food, DIY art and crafts, and fun. Admission is FREE April 24-26, 2009 at Stinkweeds Record Exchange, 11am to 6pm on Saturday, and 11am to 4pm on Sunday. Live-spun music will be provided courtesy of Stinkweeds, and free food for vegans, vegetarians, and hungry zinesters of all types will be available throughout the weekend. Trading of artwork and publications amongst exhibitors and attendees is strongly encouraged.

CAPED
AN IRREVERENT SUPERHERO STORY
THIS MARCH

Written by SOUTH PARK'S Josh Lobis and Darin Moiselle!

Millions would kill to be a superhero's personal assistant
like Jimmy Lohman.
Unfortunately, he's not one of them.

Los Angeles - January 26th, 2009 - Think your boss is tough? Try working for a superhero! A story of capes, cowls and Blackberrys, CAPED comes to you from the brains of SOUTH PARK writers Josh Lobis and Darin Moiselle, with art by Yair Herrera.

In CAPED, we meet Jimmy Lohman. Millions would kill to be a superhero's personal assistant. Unfortunately, Jimmy's not one of them. Down on his luck, and assisting a has-been hero, will anyone take Jimmy seriously when he uncovers the plot to kill off every superhero in town?

"Josh and Darin are some of the funniest guys I have met. And CAPED captures that completely. It's a laugh out loud funny superhero story that every tights and spandex fan will love," said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Mark Waid.

"First thing you should know is that CAPED is autobiographical. We both had bosses who were jerks. They hogged all the credit but passed on all the blame. We wanted to tell a story about the unsung heroes and nowhere were those themes bigger - and funnier - than the superhero genre,"said CAPED co-writer Darin Moiselle.

CAPED features interior illustrations by Yair Herrera, known for his work on IDW's ZOMBIES: ECLIPSE OF THE UNDEAD! and THE COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO DRAWING SUPERHEROES AND VILLAINS.

"Sometimes we just need to make fun of superheroes!" said CAPED series editor Ian Brill. "This is the series to do that."

CAPED #1 features two variant covers by Saumin Patel and Joe Quinones with a Diamond Order Code: JAN094060

MANKIND RISES FROM THE BUNKERS FOR THE MOST ANTICIPATED COMIC SERIES OF 2009: MARC GUGGENHEIM'S RESURRECTION

From the writer of YOUNG X-MEN, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, and the co-creator of television's ELI STONE comes a science fiction epic that explores the aftermath of Earth's most brutal conflict. For ten years the alien invaders have laid waste to our planet, but now they've vanished, leaving the survivors with two questions - "Where did they go?" and "Where does humanity go from here?" It's existential questions with alien-fueled intrigue, and there's no better time to get on board as Oni Press is proud to announce its Gold Sponsorship for this years FREE COMIC BOOK DAY coupled with a $6 RESURRECTION trade paperback!

“We want to give fans who might have missed out on the first arc a quick introduction and an easy way to get caught up,” said managing editor Randal C. Jarrell. “The FCBD issue, RESURRECTION #0, is a stand-alone issue that can be picked up and enjoyed independent of any knowledge of the previous series. If they like it, and we know they will, then they can turn around and on the same day pick up the entire first arc of RESURRECTION for just six bucks!”

The trade paperback entitled, RESURRECTION VOL. 1: THE INSURGENT EDITION hits store shelves on April 29th, the Wednesday just before Free Comic Book Day. With 184 pages of content, collecting the first six issues of the series and the double-sized annual, RESURRECTION VOL. 1 is the perfect opportunity to get initiated into Marc Guggenheim's critically acclaimed storyline.

Marketing director Cory Casoni said, “All of this is leading up to the new arc of RESURRECTION that launches in June. The second arc begins exactly where the first arc began, but it follows a different group of survivors. Marc's story adds so many new layers to the last arc and is complimented perfectly by industry newcomer Justing Greenwood's art.”

“We're so confident about this series that we're relaunching it in full color this summer,” commented editor in chief, James Lucas Jones. “RESURRECTION will be one of only a handful of color books that we've ever published. The original arc was black and white, but we realized in approaching the series again that with the huge scope of the piece, the decimation after the war, the rebuilding of humanity, it simply called for color.”

When asked about this change, Marc Guggenheim commented “I'm really pleased with all the support Oni has given to me and to RESURRECTION.” And to the fans he added “We've got some really amazing stuff in store for you. I can't wait for the release.”

RESURRECTION #0 is available free of charge at participating comic shops on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY, Saturday May 2nd, just three days after the April 29th release of RESURRECTION VOL 1: THE INSURGENT EDITION.
