EVERYONE WANTS A VACATION
Infinite Vacation #1 Sells Out, Second Printing Scheduled

Berkeley, CA - January 20, 2011 -

Image Comics is pleased to announce yet another sell-out first issue today. A second printing of Nick Spencer and Christian Ward's Shadowline title, THE INFINITE VACATION #1, has been scheduled to satisfy the demand of readers who missed out on Spencer's latest hit.

"It's so great to get all this support from the fans right from the start!" exclaimed Nick Spencer, writer, "I also feel very lucky to have Christian Ward working with me as a co-creator on this project. THE INFINITE VACATION is simultaneously the story of an everyman but also vibrant and surreal -- like a visual representation of the subconscious in a technologically-driven world. Christian's art just hits the mark exactly, and it's clear that the fans feel the same way!"

Spencer’s other titles with Image/Shadowline include EXISTENCE 2.0, EXISTENCE 3.0, SHUDDERTOWN, FORGETLESS, and he is also currently writing the runaway hit MORNING GLORIES. Christian Ward's colorful and psychedelic art style filled the pages of another Image comic, OLYMPUS.

"MORNING GLORIES, 27, and now THE INFINITE VACATION. I'm overwhelmed and extremely grateful for the support both fans and retailers have shown to Shadowline and Image," said Jim Valentino, Publisher of Image's Shadowline studio.

THE INFINITE VACATION is a high concept science fiction love story taking place in a parallel reality, where an app that allows the user to answer the age-old question of "what if" has changed everyone's lives forever. The first issue has not only received outstanding fan reaction, but also glowing reviews. Comic Book Resources called it "as smart and engaging a comic as you could hope for."

THE INFINITE VACATION #1 Second Printing (DEC108124), a 32-page full-color comic book for only $3.50, will be in stores February 16, 2011.

Miss Something During the Holidaze?

Catch up on MBP's Recent Releases
NEW YORK - January 19, 2011 - The first month of 2011 is already winding down, but we here at MBP feel like the last part of 2010 blew by so fast we're just catching up with it. Between end of year madness and some internal changes, we wanted to remind you, our fine, fair media friends, about four great titles we've recently released that might very well be of interest to you but got lost in the Holidaze shuffle.

For any of you that had responded to these initial press releases and never heard back from us, our bad. Emails were funneled into black holes, but we've fixed all of that using space-age technology and the backspace key. Should any of these books pique your interest, let us know and we'll send you a review copy.

Becoming: Yishay Garbasz dares to explore one of society's most taboo subjects-the exercise of individual agency in the unmaking and remaking of a body's gender. In this groundbreaking work and objet d'art, Garbasz courageously documents the changes she underwent from one year before her gender reassignment surgery until one year afterward. Becoming's flipbook format renders visible and immediate the element of time in this process, a topic touched upon in the foreword written by film critic Vivian Sobchack.

The Obscene Image: Photographer Gilles Tondini has documented the frenzied frescos created by medical interns in Paris who use hospital break rooms to let off steam and maintain sanity as they work to save lives. Graphic, sexually charged, saturated with color and lewd references, these little known images manifest all the frustrations, stresses, highs, and lows that medical professionals anywhere must deal with in their quests to keep people healthy. The book is bilingual English and French.

Everything That Can Happen in a Day: What does it take to snap someone out of their daily routine? Over the course of 2009, artist David Horvitz explored this question by sending out directives on a daily basis, encouraging people to take action and infuse their day with whimsy and creativity. From giving a flower to every cashier you purchase something from to capturing a photograph of yourself sticking your head in a refrigerator, Horvitz's project reminds readers that "nothing will happen unless you first initiate a process of cause and effect."

Fuzz and Fur: The adoration of mythical creatures and popular anime characters is nothing new in Japan, but kigurumi, roughly translated as "fur suit mascots," is a growing pastime that is also a marketing tool. Profiling over 100 kigurumi with photographs and text that explaining their origins, Fuzz & Fur is the definitive compendium of this fascinating subculture.

Star Trek Voyager's Robert Picardo and producer/director/writer Dr. Harry Kloor will host the U.S. premiere of Quantum Quest, the 3-D computer animated Large Format adventure film, at the gala preview party of "Science With A Twist: An Evening Aboard The Enterprise" on Saturday night, January 22nd at the Louisville Science Center museum.

Quantum Quest interweaves animated sequences with stunning, actual space imagery captured from seven ongoing NASA and NASA/ESA space missions. In addition to Picardo, the film boasts an A-list voice cast including two Captain Kirks (veteran William Shatner and Chris Pine), two Jedi Knights (Mark Hamill and Samuel L. Jackson) and two Darth Vaders (James Earl Jones and Hayden Christensen) - a first for Hollywood and the galaxy. Quantum Quest will be released in Large Format and conventional theaters in spring, 2011.

Quantum Quest is the first time that NASA’s iconic Jet Propulsion Laboratory has ever initiated a film project and the first time that Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the surface of the Moon, has participated in a feature film, lending his voice to one of the characters.

Combining solid, “real” science with Hollywood-style narrative story-telling, Quantum Quest is designed to communicate the excitement of space exploration and science discovery to students K through 12. Quantum Quest will provide more free educational materials, prepared by leading educators, scientists, space and science organizations (including the Fleet Museum and the Planetary Society), than any previous Large Screen film.

“This is a stealth science education film disguised as fun Hollywood entertainment,” says Dr. Kloor. “Whenever we talk about science, it’s exact, but QQ’s message is to tell kids – and grownups of all ages - that

science is cool.”

Dr. Harry Kloor, Ph.D. Physics, Ph.D. Chemistry, is a writer, director, producer, scientist, inventor, and national technology policy advisor. Dr. Kloor has 15 years experience writing/developing films and TV series. In 1994, he earned the unique status of being the first and, to date, the only person to simultaneously earn two doctorates, one in Physics and the other in Chemistry, both from Purdue University. This achievement was so singular that it gained national recognition in such publications as The New York Times and People. His writing credits include Star Trek: Voyager and the animated series Godzilla, and Earth: Final Conflict, and he was a producer and played a key role in developing the hit TV series Earth: Final Conflict. Dr. Kloor is a recognized leader in bringing science to the public. He founded a National Physics Outreach Program at Purdue University in 1991, forming partnerships with Marvel Entertainment and Paramount Pictures to use their iconic properties such as Spider-Man and Star Trek to advance science. Dr. Kloor has produced and directed a variety of commercials and industrial documentaries, published articles stories in various newspapers and scientific publications and sits on a range of advisory boards including Rocket Racing League (for which he was the Founding Advisor) and Signacert. Dr. Kloor served as Science Advisor to the famed X Prize organization, and has worked in advancing science literacy to the public for over 20 years.

Award-winning Comic Creator Expands Jolly Rogue Studios

January 14, 2011: With the recent decision to self-publish Sky Pirates of Valendor, creator and publisher of Jolly Rogue Studios Everett Soares has decided to share his lessons learned and possibly even lessen the burden of being a creator by offering up the talents of his most trusted team. In this endeavor, Soares has partnered with those in the industry who have helped him, trusted him and created with him to establish a one-stop shop to aid creators and publishers to develop their properties. The main goal of Jolly Rogue Studios is to provide guidance, support and resources that enable any creator or publisher in need. The team consists of a writer, penciler, inker, colorist, letterer, graphic designer, web designer, editor and publicist. The studio, based on their experience, will market themselves to comic book creators and publishers, gaming companies and novelists.

Jolly Rogue Studios was founded in 2007 for the sole purpose of creating Sky Pirates of Valendor. As a finalist in Small Press Idol that year, Soares went from aspiring comic book writer to published creator virtually overnight. But that didn't come as easily as it sounds. Building his team was the hardest process for Soares. He interviewed and auditioned over 16 artists before he hit jackpot with Brian Brinlee. Then after losing his original inker and colorist, another search began. The end result - Alex Rivera and Jet Amago.

In 2010, Jolly Rogue Studios grew even larger with the valuable addition of George Burnett, website design guru. George gave Sky Pirates of Valendor the amazing presence to the world that it needed. Next to the dazzling art and intriguing storylines, one of the most appealing assets that Sky Pirates of Valendor possesses is its packaging. Working with Soares since the launch of Sky Pirates of Valendor, talented graphic designer Steve Kuster has created a unique look and feel that engages the reader.

To round out the studio, Soares has welcomed longtime friend and grammar guru, Amy Haley to the team for her mad editing skills. And last but not least, a project of this magnitude would not be complete without his partner, wife and promotions goddess, Susan Soares. Together, this happy group of 8 will conquer the world with their extraordinary organization, communication and teamwork skills to bring their clients’ projects to fruition with the same level of magic they’ve experienced for the past four years.

INDIAN COUNTRY TODAY MEDIA NETWORK CONNECTS WITH HOLLYWOOD

First Native American News Website and Media Network Aims To Be Entertainment Community's Go-to Destination

For News and Information About Indigenous Peoples

Launch Celebrated With Poly-Bag Insert in Variety's Golden Globe Issue

(New York, January 14, 2011) – Ray Halbritter, Nation Representative and CEO of the Oneida Indian Nation, announced today that the just-launched Indian Country Today Media Network, the country's first-ever website and media network for news and information about Native American and indigenous peoples, will introduce itself to the entertainment community with a poly-bag insert in Variety's Friday Golden Globe issue.

“With Indian Country Today Media Network we have created a full service media platform that is current, timely, sophisticated, inclusive and widely available," said Halbritter. "As the only national, daily source of essential news and information from Indian country," Halbritter explained, "our goal is to establish Indian Country Today Media Network as the thought leader in the national dialogue on Native American issues.

"Indian Country Today Media Network is a one-stop shopping destination for producers, studios, production companies, writers and actors. We can introduce the entertainment community to a deep pool of potential content, to above and below the line talent, help with casting and locations, and even assist in vetting scripts for historical and culture accuracy. We are the source for connecting the dots between the entertainment industry and Native Americans."

Indian Country Today Media Network evolved from Indian Country Today, the Oneida Indian Nation's award-winning national Native American newspaper.

Indian Country Today Media Network is designed to be the premier portal for Indian Country and the go-to destination for all things indigenous. The various platforms will include www.Indiancountrytodaymedianetwork.com and a weekly magazine, This Week From Indian Country Today, which is being distributed to Variety readers in their Golden Globes issue today. Future plans call for the production of syndicated and online radio shows, and a content and advertising network, another first for Native Americans.

The website and magazine will provide essential news and information from Indian Country, featuring new artists and cultural highlights, and give life to the most forceful voices in the national community. The network will also offer online services in the areas of education, business and events ... everything from listings of tribal colleges to the latest pow wows to the array of entertainment projects with Native themes.

Not only is Indian Country Today Media Network a compelling platform for Native Americans, it’s also an opportunity for advertisers to reach one of the fastest growing populations in the US with a projected buying power of over $67 billion in 2010 (The Multicultural Economy 2010, Jeffrey M. Humphreys, University of Georgia, Selig Center for Economic Growth).

An advisory board of leading and prominent members of the Nations—including tribal leaders, educators, entrepreneurs and government officials—will help guide the policy of Indian Country Today Media Network under Op Ed Editor Ray Cook and Washington D.C. Bureau Chief Rob Capriccioso. Already accepting places on the Indian Country Today Media Network board are Dr. Jose Barreiro, director of the Office for Latin America at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian; Mark Trahant, former editor of the editorial page of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and past President of the Native American Journalists Association; Dr. Duane Champagne, professor of sociology and Native American studies at Harvard University, and Professor Carole Goldberg of UCLA Law School, a specialist in Federal Indian Law, Tribal Legal Systems, and an advisor to the Tribal Legal Development Clinic and the Tribal Appellate Court Clinic.

THE LAST LOVECRAFT: RELIC OF CTHULHU

Genre Bending Film Comes to Dark Sky Films DVD on February 15, 2011

“What a great film – the laughs keep coming and they never let up.”

– The Film Reel

“a strong, fun independent movie that Lovecraft fans will really love.”

– John Allison, RowThree.com

Mankind is threatened with extinction, and it’s up to three geeks and a salty sea captain to prevent disaster in the uproariously frightening THE LAST LOVECRAFT: RELIC OF CTHULHU. The movie, inspired by the writings of horror icon H.P. Lovecraft, will thrill aficionados when it reaches DVD via Dark Sky Films and MPI Media Group on February 15, 2011, with an SRP of $24.98.

Bored office drone Jeff (Kyle Davis, Friday the 13th) is informed by a mysterious elderly professor that he is the last living descendant of H.P. Lovecraft, the revered author of such horror/fantasy classics as The Shadow Over Innsmouth, Re-Animator and the Cthulhu Mythos stories. Jeff is thus the only person who can prevent a race of evil creatures (drawn from Lovecraft’s imagination) from wreaking havoc. The mild-mannered Jeff must protect an ancient relic and prevent it from falling into the clutches of the monsters, which would bring about the release of all-powerful evil known as Cthulhu. Jeff enlists the aid of his co-worker Charlie (screenwriter and producer, Devin McGinn, Bones) and a husky Lovecraft aficionado, Paul (Barak Hardley, Greek), and together they put their slacker lives on hold to embark on an icky and hilarious mission to save the world. Along the way, they get some help from an a sea captain with a fish-boy son – and discover that Lovecraft’s horrific monsters, including a T-shirt-wearing reptile man, are far from fictional.

Part road movie, part buddy movie in the vein of Superbad and The Hangover, THE LAST LOVECRAFT: RELIC OF CTHULHU is also a supremely creepy tribute to H.P. Lovecraft. No less an authority than Stephen King called him “the 20th century’s greatest practitioner of the classic horror tale.” Lovecraft’s tales of Cthulhu and other stories have spawned movies, books, toys, games, apparel and collectibles.

An Official Selection of the Toronto After Dark Film Fest and the Slamdance Film Festival, THE LAST LOVECRAFT: RELIC OF CTHULHU has fans and critics alike in its thrall. Todd Brown of TwitchFilm.net called it “a loving ode to both B-grade monster cinema … and the works of H.P. Lovecraft. … so slapdash charming that it’s impossible not to enjoy the ride.” “Funny from start to finish and full of some great creature effects,” said The Film Reel. Director Henry Saine “brings to life some seriously creepy Lovecraftian sea monsters with equal parts blood, slime and slapstick,” wrote Roxxanne Benjamin at Bloody-Disgusting.com. And Toronto Film Scene said, “No one and no thing takes itself seriously in THE LAST LOVECRAFT, and that’s definitely part of its charm … both gory and funny (one of the best combinations!).”

Extras on the DVD include:

Japanese fur suit mascots: A strange amalgam of hometown pride and cost-saving measures

New York, NY - January 11th, 2011 - The adoration of mythical creatures and popular anime characters is nothing new in Japan, but kigurumi, roughly translated as "fur suit mascots," is a growing pastime that is also a marketing tool. An oversized daikon radish, a skiing egg, a bear with an apple for a head, a volcano sticking out its tongue - these furry mascots wander the streets of Japan, and the pages of Edward and John Harrison's Fuzz & Fur.

Created to promote a prefecture or institution by honoring landmarks, local points of interest, regional produce, historical figures, civic institutions, and traditional folklore, municipalities have taken advantage of their citizens' willingness to design costumes and dress up as these characters in a strange amalgam of hometown pride and cost-saving measures.

Being chosen to fill the role of a kigurumi is a chance at local stardom, as the authors explain in their introduction: "The characters have background and personalities. Blogs and websites are made, merchandise produced, and they regularly make appearances at events and on television. Some even release books and have Twitter accounts."

Profiling over 100 kigurumi with photographs and text that explains these mascots' origins, as well as their likes and dislikes, Fuzz & Fur is the definitive compendium of this fascinating subculture, and the perfect companion to Edward and John Harrison's Idle Idol, which documents three-dimensional Japanese mascots.

About the Authors:

Edward Harrison is a designer and illustrator living in Tokyo. He enjoys taking photographs of strange signs and rusty Kanji. When not creating his own characters for clients including Adidas, Redbull and Eurostar he likes to track down and document Japanese mascots.

John Harrison is a designer and illustrator living in London. When not creating websites and animations for clients including Myspace and Nickelodeon he likes to try and avoid injuring himself while cycling and learning Taekwondo.

DRUM ROLL
After spectacular sellout of first issue, 27 #2 also heads back to press for second printing

Berkeley, CA - 6 January 2011 - Ain't It Cool calls Shadowline and Image Comics' new hit 27 "intriguingly surprising," and The Outhouse calls it "easily the most unique comic of the year." The folks at Graphic Policy "can't wait to read issue two," and apparently fans can't wait either -- 27 #2 has sold out at the distribution level!

Shadowline and Image are rushing a new printing to press, which will be on store shelves and in the hands of fans on February 9, the same day as the third issue of the hit miniseries, which is written by Charles Soule (Strongman) and illustrated by Renzo Podesta with lavish covers by W. Scott Forbes.

"It's fantastic that so many people enjoyed the first issue of 27," says Soule, "and I'm glad fans have enjoyed the second issue as well. I can't say it enough that this wouldn't be possible without the support of the fans -- this encore is for you!"

"27 is having a stupendous run, following in the footsteps of MORNING GLORIES and other great Image titles with multiple sellouts," adds Shadowline Publisher Jim Valentino. "As the miniseries continues, you can expect more rock and roll, more intrigue, and more crazy fun!"

In 27, the "27 Club" admits only the most brilliant musicians and artists -- and kills them dead in their 27th year. Will Garland is a famous rock guitarist, secretly unable to play for months due to a neurological disorder afflicting his left hand. He's also 27. With mad scientists, long dead rock legends and cosmic entities in his way, can he make it to 28?

27 #2 (of 4) Second Printing (NOV108244), a 32-page full-color comic book in the Golden Age format, will be in stores January 5, 2011, alongside 27 #3 (NOV100455). For the latest info on 27, follow Soule's blog at http://charlessoule.wordpress.com.

What IF YOU WERE GIVEN ONE NIGHT OFF FROM YOUR RELATIONSHIP?

New York, NY (November 22, 2010) - Phase 4 Films is proud to announce the January 11th, 2011 home entertainment release of Katie Aselton's critically acclaimed THE FREEBIE.

Since premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January, THE FREEBIE has become one of the most talked about independent films of the year. Written, directed and starring Katie Aselton (from the hit TV show THE LEAGUE), THE FREEBIE centers on a happily married couple with a stalled sex life who look to spice things up by agreeing to an experiment: for one night each partner can freely cheat on the other with no repercussions. Dax Shepard (PARENTHOOD) co-stars alongside Aselton. The film was executive produced by Aselton and Mark Duplass (CYRUS) and produced by Adele Romanski (MYTH OF THE AMERICAN SLEEPOVER).

Phase 4 Films is releasing THE FREEBIE on DVD and VOD on January 11th, 2011.

Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton) have an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication -- they still enjoy each other's company and laugh at each other's jokes, but, unfortunately, they can't remember the last time they had sex. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. The deal: one night of freedom, no strings attached, no questions asked. Could a "freebie" be the cure for their ailing sex life? And will they go through with it? With a keen eye and fresh take, Aselton's directorial debut shines with crisp storytelling and fine-tuned performances. THE FREEBIE is an insightful and humorous look at love, sustaining relationships, and the awkwardness of monogamy when the haze of lust has faded.

Where Words Meet Pictures: The Sixth Gun
Art exhibition and signing at The Rogues Gallery

January 14th at 7:00pm – Art Opening, refreshments will be served,
cocktail attire requested
January 15th at Noon – Signing and Discussion

Graphic novels are a combination of literature and art, so why
shouldn’t a graphic novel event be the same? Challengers Comics +
Conversation presents THE SIXTH GUN weekend: a Friday evening opening
with artist Brian Hurtt and writer Cullen Bunn, then a noon signing on
Saturday with both creators.

Published by Oni Press (Scott Pilgrim, Stumptown) THE SIXTH GUN is a
supernatural western that references the Civil War. During that time,
wicked cutthroats came into possession of six pistols of otherworldly
power. In time, the Sixth Gun, the most dangerous of the weapons,
vanished. When the gun surfaces in the hands of an innocent girl, dark
forces reawaken. Vile men thought long dead set their sights on
retrieving the gun and killing the girl. Only Drake Sinclair, a
gunfighter with a shadowy past, stands in their way.
Just as THE SIXTH GUN crosses genres, this unique event crosses
mediums, and celebrates not just the art or the writing, but the comic
as a whole.

SISTERS AT WAR
Image Comics goes to war this March with CARBON GREY

Berkeley, CA - 4 January 2011 - At the birth of the industrial age, a great war is raging. Sister hunts sister as gods are betrayed and enemies ascend to power...

In March, Image Comics enters the maelstrom with the release of CARBON GREY #1, a stunning foray into our world's secret history. Hoang Nguyen (Punisher War Zone, Metal Militia), Khari Evans (Shanna the She-Devil), Paul Gardner, and Mike Kennedy (Aeon Flux, Lone Wolf and Cub 2100) pen the thrilling tale. The indescribably gorgeous artwork for the series is courtesy of Nguyen, Evans, and Kinsun Loh.

"CARBON GREY has been an eight-year journey, a true labor of love," says Nguyen. "We've been consumed with this project, and we're so happy that Image Comics is helping us get it into readers' hands. I hope readers will feel the same passion we do for the book."

Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson adds, "I'm really happy we're finally releasing CARBON GREY. Jimmy Palmiotti introduced me to Hoang at WonderCon last year, and I picked the book up on the spot. The amount of dedication and craft on display in the pitch was nothing short of astounding: The beauty and detail in the art, the freshness of the story -- it just blew me away -- and I'm thrilled that a year later, we're able to share this wonderful project with fans everywhere."

For generations, the Sisters Grey have protected and counseled the Kaiser, ruler of Mitteleuropa. As civilization spirals into its first truly global war, Giselle Grey stands accused of assassinating the man she was born to protect. Pursued by her sisters, including twin Mathilde, and hunted by the enemy, Giselle must unravel the prophecy of the Carbon Grey before history itself is rewritten.

CARBON GREY #1 (JAN110554), a 32-page full-color comic book for $2.99, will be in stores March 2, 2011.

NIBBUS MAXIMUS Debut Performance at Gage Academy of Art Jim Woodring Unveils The Giant Nib Pen

Seattle cartoonist Jim Woodring, author Frank Comics and the acclaimed Weathercraft, has built a seven-foot-long pen-and-penholder, a giant version of the steel dip pen nib and wooden handle used by artists and calligraphers. The pen will make its debut in the Skinner Auditorium of Gage Academy of Art on Sunday, January 9 from 1pm to 4pm.

The nib is sixteen inches long and made of brass-pated, hand-engraved cold-rolled steel. The handle is lathe-turned poplar, painted with black lacquer. The ink is a specially formulated acrylic blend. A vase functions as an inkwell.

When this project was announced earlier this year it was met with heavy skepticism. Many felt a pen this size could not function because the relationship between scale and fluid dynamics. Woodring was convinced it could be done and the nib has performed well in tests with prototypes. This will be the first public demonstration of the finished product.

Woodring will be making large ink drawings (up to 4 x 6 feet) on a specially built drawing board and conversing with the audience as he works. Regulation pen-and-ink supplies will be on hand for interested audience members to use; members of Seattle’s Friends of the Nib will provide instruction for beginners.

Jolly Rogue Studios Set to Publish Sky Pirates of Valendor
For Immediate Release: Everett Soares, creator and writer of the small press comic book title Sky Pirates of Valendor, announced today that Jolly Rogue Studios will assume publishing responsibilities for the upcoming 6-issue second chapter, set to launch January 14, 2011.

As Uncle Ben wisely once said “With great power comes great responsibility,” Soares has made some big decisions in a short amount of time. Among them, Sky Pirates of Valendor will be simultaneously released digitally as well as print. The release event, timed with the studio’s first convention appearance of 2011, will take at Arisia, a Boston-based science fiction convention. The digital release will occur on drivethrucomics.com. Additionally, mobile device users will be able to download upcoming issues of Sky Pirates of Valendor very soon. The creative studio turned publisher is currently in the contract-signing stage with two different vendors, with announcements coming shortly.

Back in 2007, Soares was faced with one of the biggest decisions of his life. Having spent the previous 5 months engrossed in an intense competition for comic book creators, Soares finished Small Press Idol in 2nd place, just a few votes shy of a 4-issue contract with Dimestore Productions. Where would Soares take the series now?

For the sake of the series, Soares did not wait very long to answer that question. With Brian Brinlee as penciler, Michael W. Kellar as inker and Jet Amago as toner, Soares received the opportunity most creators dream of – Sky Pirates of Valendor would be published by Free Lunch Comics. Three years later and a full miniseries of Sky Pirates completed, Soares faced another major and life-altering decision. Free Lunch Comics informed Soares they would not be extending their publishing contract for another miniseries. After briefly considering the option of finding another publisher, Soares along with his creative team, now consisting of Alex Rivera as inker, made the decision and commitment to publish Sky Pirates of Valendor under the studio name created back in 2007.

Sky Pirates of Valendor, an ongoing fantasy comic book series, recounts the adventures of Captain Tobin Manheim and the crew of the Rogue’s Revenge in the shattered world of Valendor. Riddled with political intrigue, death warrants and high adventure, Sky Pirates of Valendor appeals to fans of multiple genres and mediums. For more information on Sky Pirates of Valendor or its creative team, visit their website at www.skypiratesofvalendor.com.

Jolly Rogue Studios, formed by Everett Soares in September 2007, is best known for its flagship title, Sky Pirates of Valendor. The studio was formed as a result of Soares’ successful completion of Small Press Idol 2007. Jolly Rogue Studios currently employs three series artists, as well as numerous freelance artists for the purpose of producing high-quality comics. In addition to its flagship title, Jolly Rogue Studios plans to release Barbed Wire, a multi-genre anthology involving over 20 artists and writers.

STAN ‘THE MAN’ LEE MAKES TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO PHOENIX COMICON

Comic Author to attend Phoenix Comicon

PHOENIX, AZ Nov. 4, 2010— Stan Lee, the legendary man behind some of America’s favorite comics including The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Spider-Man and The Hulk, will be at Phoenix Comicon this Memorial Day Weekend.

“Stan Lee said he enjoyed last year’s convention so much that he has agreed to come back, this time for two days,” Convention Director Matt Solberg announced to a cheering crowd at the Kick-Off Event Thursday night.

Stan Lee’s career and achievements are untouchable in the comic book world. By age 16 he was an assistant at the publishing house Timely Comics, which later evolved into Marvel Comics. It quickly became obvious that Lee was destined to greater things when he wrote his first, and wildly successful, comic “Captain America Foils the Traitor's Revenge." By age 19, Lee was promoted and became the youngest interim editor in the business, later taking on the roles as editor-in-chief and art director.

“Having Stan Lee at the convention last year was phenomenal. To have him come again this year is just surreal! I admire the man so much,” Joe Boudrie, Director of Programming said.

Stan Lee, now Chairman of Marvel Comics and Marvel Films, is recognized to millions around the world as the man whose beloved superheroes propelled Marvel to its distinguished position in the comic book industry. In more recent years, Lee continues to write new material and is very involved in his film company. He is known for his off-the-wall cameos in Marvel produced movies, like his most recent appearance in Iron Man 2 as an uncanny Larry King.

Phoenix Comicon is the signature pop culture event of the southwest, presenting guests and programming for hobbyists by attracting the top segments of the comics, anime, sci-fi, film, tv, and gaming industries. Entering its tenth year, Phoenix Comicon is expected to draw over 20,000 attendees to its May 26-29, 2011 convention held at the Phoenix Convention Center and Hyatt Regency in Downtown Phoenix.
