Image Comics announces San Diego Comic Con panel line-up

Image Comics is pleased to host five exciting panels at San Diego Comic Con, in addition to the exclusive announcements and special guest reveals at Image Expo on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Hilton Bayfront. From Thursday, July 24 through Sunday, July 27, Image Comics' panels will cover a broad spectrum of life in comics, from the creative processes of bestselling writers and artists to the nitty-gritty of transitioning to creator-owned comics, including a spotlight panel on the hit New York Times bestselling and Eisner-award winning series SAGA.

On Thursday, July 24 from 2 - 3 p.m. in room 23ABC, join Image Comics for “IMAGE COMICS: I is for...INFINITY” and hear from bestselling creators Nick Dragotta (EAST OF WEST), Rick Remender (DEADLY CLASS), Richard Starkings (ELEPHANTMEN), Jason Latour (SOUTHERN BASTARDS), Stuart Moore (EGOS), Ryan Burton (DARK ENGINE), and special surprise guests as we discuss the future of comics. The panel will feature an exclusive, never-before-seen teaser of Skybound's first feature film, AIR starring Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), a co-production with Automatik Entertainment (Insidious franchise) which has been acquired by Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions.

Norman Reedus will join the panel to discuss the making of AIR and what it was like to work with Kirkman and Alpert outside of THE WALKING DEAD. Director Christian Cantamessa (Red Dead Redemption) will also join.

Robert Kirkman and David Alpert will discuss Skybound’s newest division, Skybound Interactive, and will share news about the critically acclaimed game The Walking Dead by Telltale and other happenings in the interactive space.

Gary Reed launches Kickstarter for special Caliber Comic graphic novel.

July 13, 2014. Caliber Comics is proud to announce that CEO Gary Reed has launched a special Kickstarter for the new graphic novel Storyville: The Prostitute Murders. Where pledges, based on the contribution level, will be able to obtain original art pages from the book.

Storyville is a mystery/crime tale set in the Storyville district of 1910 New Orleans.   It was one of the key sites for the “Devil’s Blues” which later became known as jazz. The legalized red light district ran for 25 years and virtually everything was permitted - from sex to booze, from gambling to drugs. The only thing that was not acceptable was murder, because murder was bad for business. When prostitutes and their customers start being killed, Detective Brian Donahue, a transplant from Chicago, finds he has no answer to these seemingly random murders. Enlisting the aid of Dr. Eric Trevor, a psychiatrist at the nearby St. James Infirmary, the two of them embark to unravel the mystery of this new type of killer seldom seen before…a serial killer.

Storyville is created and written by Gary Reed, writer of acclaimed series such as Saint Germaine, Baker Street, Renfield, and Deadworld. He has been nominated (and even won some) for awards diverse as the Harveys, Don Thompson, Shel Dorf, Ghastlies, and others. Main artist on the book is Wayne Reid - Wayne is considered an “old type” artist as his style is very reminiscent of the class black and white days of Eerie and Creepy. Many of his projects have been historically based and working with Gary Reed (see some titles above) but Wayne has also drawn other comics including H.P. Lovecraft, westerns, mysteries, and more. Additional artist is Mark Bloodworth who has done work on Clive Barker’s Hellraiser for Marvel Comics, Deadworld, Midnight Marquee and many others. Mark contributes a short tale contained within the story. Also contributing is Nate Pride - an artist in his own right (B&N Classics, Mouse Guard), Nate has lettered 100s of comics from Image, IDW, Caliber, and more.

Aside from the original art pages being made available, various Caliber comics and graphic novels, art prints are offered for supportive pledges.

Our passions are more similar than we think, and it’s these passions that tie us together as human beings. A football player who loves comic books. A comic book geek who loves football. The days of exclusive clubs are over.

 

The Geekies melds many of these worlds together through our categories—gaming, entertainment and digital content, comic books, art and fashion—but also by celebrating the pure heart and soul that is indie. Los Angeles, CA, July 2014 – Once again, the doctors of Broadcast Thought, H. Eric Bender, M.D., Praveen R. Kambam, M.D., and Vasilis K. Pozios, M.D., return to Comic-Con International with a must-see panel. On Thursday, July 24, 2014, from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Room 7AB, they team up with very special guest, Mark Swift, co-writer of Friday the 13^th (2009) and Freddy vs. Jason, to present “Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael! Inside the Minds of Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, & Michael Myers.”

The panelists consider whether Michael is simply a sociopathic stalker, Freddy merely a manipulative monster, and Jason just a killing machine. Or is there more to these slashers when we slice below the surface? Can we make sense of a vengeful boogeyman’s sister obsession? Could fire turn a sexually violent predator into a sadistic serial killer? Did “mommy issues” and bullying birth a brutish butcher? Who’s the most dangerous killer, and which, if any, might be considered insane? Join the discussion moderated by horror meister Evan Dickson of Bloody Disgusting! They are currently working on a new original horror project for New Line Cinema, an Untitled science-fiction project for Skydance productions, and are co-producing a comedy for Paramount Pictures starring Peter Dinklage. They have also co-written a number of projects currently in development, including “Vikings” for Disney; the 1950s noir “Hawaiian Dick,” for director Frank Coraci; and an adaptation of Howard Chaykin’s graphic novel “Power & Glory.”
