STRANGE ATTRACTORS RETURNS IN COMPLETE VOLUME
Pirate Peg’s Rangerette Handbook Collects Entire Series

One of the leading independent comics from the 1990’s, Strange Attractors, will finally be collected into one complete volume to be released into the comic market for the first time. The Strange Attractors saga from Michael Cohen and Mark Sherman will be released from Transfuzion Publishing in December, 2010 It will collect all 17 issues and run nearly 400 pages and retail for $24.95.

The story centers on Sophie, curator of the Museum of Lost Things, who gets caught up in a war between science and magic in this light-hearted retro post-modern science fiction where the comics she loves are actually coded history and she becomes a magnet for all sorts of cosmic weirdness.

“When Michael contacted me about collecting the entire series, of course I was interested,” said Transfuzion publisher, Gary Reed. Caliber Comics, the previous publishing house ran by Reed, had published the last two issues of Strange Attractors. “I’ve always felt it was a vastly under-appreciated book,” he said, “even when it was a hit back in the day. It should’ve been even bigger.”

The decision to re-title the saga from simply Strange Attractors to Pirate Peg’s Rangerette Handbook was the idea of Cohen and Sherman. With the Strange Attractors Superman story as well as the episode of the superhero TV series, Heroes, Strange Attractors suddenly became a common name and the identity of the original comic series was diluted.

Reed added that he thought the book would capture some of the audience that had followed the original series. “Michael and Mark have been releasing it over the years on the web so it still has a following. Diamond Comic Distributors gave their full support to it and even spotlighted it in their Previews.” Pirate Peg’s Rangerette Handbook can be found in the latest issue of Previews on page 308, Order Code: OCT101148 with an ISBN of 978-0-9826549-4-1.

For more information on the collection and the publisher, Transfuzion, visit the website at www.transfuzion.biz where there are also preview pages.

REVIEWS

“What creators Cohen and Sherman have undertaken is massive and what is more impressive is that they deliver!”
---Overstreet’s Fan

“This is not rave of the month stuff---this is rave of the year. Wow, what a story!”
---Comic Buyer’s Guide

“In a barren desert of derivative movie and TV science fiction comics, Strange Attractors is an sparkling oasis of originality.”

“Opening an issue of Strange Attractors and starting to read it is comparable to walking into an environment that creates in us a pleasure sensation at all levels.”
---Dave Sim, Cerebus, Glamourpuss

“A sweet and pungent postmodern nostalgic trip! Strange Attractors brings butterflies to my stomach.”
---Rick Veitch, Brat Pack and Maximortal

“A compelling universe populated with the coolest female cast this side of Love and Rockets. Cohen and Sherman are the Lennon and McCartney of postmodern Sci-Fi comic books.”
---Jimmy Gownley, Amelia Rules

THE RETURN OF WILLIAM CASTLE

FROM THE GRAVE: A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE “MASTER OF THE MACABRE” WILLIAM CASTLE

marquee_300px"Yes, I am fully aware that I died in 1977. But you didn't think a little thing like rigor-mortis would prevent me from attending the upcoming William Castle's Shockers retrospective in Los Angeles did you? Of course you didn't.

William Castle's Shockers, presented by the very undead folks from Cinefamily at Hollywood's iconic Silent Movie Theatre, has been running Saturday nights in October. But, of course, there's also a Halloween double feature on Sunday night, October 31st.

I'm looking forward to seeing my daughter Terry there that evening - we've been having a little trouble connecting these past few years. (She always loved my story about coming up with the idea for The Tingler while standing in line outside ... The Silent Movie Theatre!) Terry's got a few tricks of her own up her pretty sleeves. It's in the genes.

Maybe I'll see you there too.

You know, getting ready for Halloween was always one of my favorite things when I was alive. Still is. This year I decided to write a horror novel ... with a little help from 30 writer friends. I wrote Chapter One of Scare It Forward and posted it on October 1. Every day this frightful month one of my friends is posting a new, sequential chapter. The final chapter, 31, will be posted on Halloween night. I guarantee it will scare a corpse out of his own grave.

If you dare, you can read each day's installment of Scare It Forward at http://williamcastle.com/blog/scare-it-forward/

I made over forty B movies following a formula for box office success: low-budget chillers geared to the burgeoning boomers. The Tingler, House on Haunted Hill, Thirteen Ghosts, Macabre, Strait-Jacket (scripted by Psycho's Robert Bloch), and Homicidal – which TIME magazine liked better than Psycho.

But some called me a master of ballyhoo who shamelessly promoted his pictures with gimmicks like The Coward's Corner and Percepto seat buzzers.

Gimmicks!! What utter nonsense."

I SPY
Image Comics launches new Nathan Edmondson title WHO IS JAKE ELLIS? in January 2011

Berkeley, CA - 20 October 2010 - Writer Nathan Edmondson made people afraid to look into the light with THE LIGHT, a sell-out five-issue miniseries drawn by Brett Weldele (The Surrogates). Now, he brings new life to the spy genre with WHO IS JAKE ELLIS?, an all-new series from Image Comics.

The first issue of JAKE ELLIS will be in stores in January 2011. Tonci Zonjic (POPGUN, The Immortal Iron Fist, Daredevil) joins Edmondson on the book, producing action-packed art and covers for the series.

"Tonci and I are bringing the idea of psychological thriller to a whole new arena," says Edmondson. "One part mystery, one part friendship, one part James Bond and Jason Bourne lovechild, and one other part sci-fi spy. You'll be asking yourself the whole ride through -- just who is Jake Ellis?"

Jon Moore is the most sought after spy-for-hire in Europe's criminal world. This is because of Jake Ellis, a man who is invisible to everyone except Moore. When a deal goes bad, the only one who can protect Moore from Europe's most dangerous criminals is Jake Ellis. No one but Moore can see Jake Ellis. But Jake Ellis can see everything.

WHO IS JAKE ELLIS? #1 (NOV100403), a 32-page, full-color comic book from Image Comics, will be in stores January 5, 2011, for $2.99. THE LIGHT VOL. 1 TP (OCT100471), a 140-page full-color graphic novel for $16.99, will be in stores December 15, 2010.

WITH OR WITHOUT VLAD
Tim Seeley tells Vlad's origin story in HACK/SLASH: ME WITHOUT YOU one-shot from Image Comics

Berkeley, CA - 20 October 2010 - Cassie Hack has taken out some of the most dangerous slashers in the world. But could she have done it without the help of her enormous sidekick, Vlad? In January 2011, HACK/SLASH fans will finally find out how Cassie and Vlad became an inseparable pair!

The follow-up to the smash hit HACK/SLASH: MY FIRST MANIAC miniseries, HACK/SLASH: ME WITHOUT YOU reveals the origin of comicdom's favorite hulking sidekick. Before Vlad roamed the country, battling slashers with Cassie Hack, he haunted the alleyways of Chicago as the living urban legend, the Meat Man. But even a cleaver-wielding monster gets lonely, and Vlad's quest to find out who he really is will lead him on a bloody path!

"I was so pleased with how MY FIRST MANIAC turned out," says Hack/Slash writer and creator TIM SEELEY. "Because of that and the reaction from the readers, I decided to tell a story I've been wanting to tell for a long time: the secret origin of Vlad, Cassie's monstrous partner. As with MANIAC, it'll be an accessible story both to new and old readers, with lots of unexpected twists."

HACK/SLASH: ME WITHOUT YOU OS, a 32-page, full-color comic book written by Seeley and illustrated by Daniel Leister, with covers by Leister and Ross Campbell, will be in stores January 5, 2011, for $3.50.

Plus hundreds of eyeball-smashing stills and posters, many in full color!

This hot pink-infused tome nails down decades of insanity with superhuman research, vicious precision and electrically charged stills and images, and is the first and final definitive armchair roadmap to punk and new wave on celluloid. After over 5 years and 20,000 movies researched, this pulse-bursting monument to lowbrow cultural obsession is a must for all film fanatics, music maniacs, anti-fashion mutants, '80s nostalgists, sleazoids, cop-killers and spazzmatics!

DAM!!! also features tons of exclusive interviews with music/big screen luminaries including Ian MacKaye, Richard Hell, Penelope Spheeris, Nick Zedd, John Doe & Exene Cervenka, Alex Cox, Martha Coolidge, Lee Ving, Keith Morris, Mary Woronov and many more!

Destroy All Movies!!!: The Complete Guide To Punks On Film is slated to be released November 2010 just in time for Carlson and Connolly to hit the road on a movie screening and book signing tour. These two cinemasochists will pack a van full of books and 33mm film prints, doing 17 events in 8 cities in 14 days. Bookstore shows will incorporate the occasional live hardcore band or pile of free doughnuts, while ultra-rare 35mm theatrical screenings will include:

CLASS OF 1984 (1982) - Punk teen maniacs live the chaos in director Mark Lester's rabid ode to juvenile delinquency. The most violent punk classic of all boils over into mayhem as teachers take on new wave students in a battle to the DEATH!!

TIMES SQUARE (1980) - Two teenage girls set New York on fire in the ultimate street punk battle cry. This film was thought lost -- even by the studio that released it -- but we've found a one-of-a-kind 35mm print!

URGH!: A MUSIC WAR (1981) - The crucial on-stage document of the then-rampaging punk and new wave explosion. Earth-shaking performances from countless bands including Devo! Dead Kennedys! Klaus Nomi! Gary Numan! The Go-Go's! The Cramps! X! Gang of Four! Must be seen to be believed.

VALLEY GIRL (1983) - This '80s teen masterpiece is the first, last and most hilarious word in punk heartbreak. Nicolas Cage stars as an LA new waver who gets his guts tangled up over an all-American high school princess. Unstoppable.

…all these plus punk classics like LADIES & GENTLEMEN - THE FABULOUS STAINS, GET CRAZY, the afterschool special THE DAY MY KID WENT PUNK and many more!

The Hurley )( Gallery Space presents an exhibition featuring a 36 foot mural collaboration with renowned artists Nathan Ota and 'RISK' entitled

"Good Times"

Saturday, October 16th, 2010 6:00pm - 10:00pm

(Costa Mesa, CA - October 11, 2010) - The Hurley )(SPACE Gallery is excited to present a mural collaboration with celebrated artists Nathan Ota and graffiti artist 'RISK' (Kelly Graval), a member of the legendary Seventh Letter Crew. In addition to the 36 ft. mural collaboration, the galley will feature some of Ota's smaller illustration works.

This exhibit opening will also mark the debut of Nathan Ota's vinyl figure collectible "Midnight Crooner"; a collaborative project with toy pioneers Three Zero and Strange Co., collectively called "Double Super". "Midnight Crooner" is based on an original painting by Nathan Ota from 2008 and features special tailored clothing including an actual working lamp. Ota has also hand painted a number of limited addition cases for the figures as well, which will be available for purchase at the exhibit.

Starting with a fascination in the art of graffiti Nathan Ota made his way into the world of illustration, working in almost every arena of art and media including; newspapers, magazines, recording companies, background art for the gaming industry, and gallery. In addition to his numerous gallery exhibitions and achievements as an illustrator Ota teaches drawing, painting and design to the bright young minds at the Otis College of Art and Design as well as Santa Monica College.

In a career spanning 27 years, RISK has impacted the evolution of graffiti as an art form in Los Angeles and worldwide. RISK gained major notoriety for his unique style and pushed the limits of graffiti further than any writer in L.A. had before: He was one of the first writers in Southern California to paint freight trains, and he pioneered writing on "heavens," or freeway overpasses. At the peak of his career he took graffiti from the streets and into the gallery with the launch of the Third Rail series of art shows, and later parlayed the name into the first authentic line of graffiti-inspired clothing.

Nathan Ota and RISK collaborated together over 25 years ago when they were classmates in high school. After high school they went their separate ways but reconnected once again through their mutual friends in the artist community.

"We did a collaboration piece for an in-store artist signing and were just amazed on how our work looked together and we both just looked at each other and I think we both knew we had to do more. This piece we did for Hurley is just that. Two friends that used to do graffiti over 2 decades ago coming together again with newfound skills and maturity doing it again!" - Nathan Ota

For Immediate Release:

Ape Entertainment Gets Rich
Richie Rich® set to receive comic book revamp

NEW YORK COMIC CON (October 9, 2010)—At New York Comic Con today, Ape Entertainment and Classic Media announced that Ape Entertainment will reimagine the classic cartoon and comic book character Richie Rich® for a modern-day audience in an all-new comic series that will turn the world’s richest kid into a globetrotting adventurer who uses his limitless wealth for good.

“Everyone inside the Ape HQ grew up a Richie Rich fan,” says Ape Entertainment founder and co-publisher Brent E. Erwin. “What we’re hoping to do with the property now is update it with a contemporary spin and bring even more action and intrigue to the original stories we all grew up on.”

Part James Bond, Jr., and part Indiana Jones with Donald Trump’s bank account, Richie Rich is an altruistic adventurer who travels the world helping the less fortunate. With his close-knit team of friends, including an updated I rona and a butt-kicking Cadbury, Richie is a hero for a new generation, acting as the voice for the underprivileged while putting his wallet and exceptional character to good use, spending some, but helping many.

“While there will be plenty of adventure, there will also be plenty of fun,” continues Erwin. “Ape is by no means reinventing the wheel, just adding another spoke. And in the words of Richie Rich, you can take that to the bank!”

“We are excited to partner with Ape Entertainment for a reimagining of Richie Rich,” said Karyn Schneider, VP, Licensing, Classic Media. “Richie is a long-standing star of the comic book world and we look forward to adding new adventures to his story.”

Published under the company’s all-ages imprint, KiZoic, Richie Rich will reach stores in early 2011.
