THE WAIT IS OVER! THE TRUE LIVES OF
THE FABULOUS KILLJOYS LAUNCHES IN
JUNE 2013!

MILWAUKIE, OR, DECEMBER 17—In 2009, when Dark Horse first announced a new project from Grammy-nominated frontman turned Eisner-winning comics writer Gerard Way (The Umbrella Academy), the response from music and comics fans alike was overwhelming. Now, Dark Horse is thrilled to announce that Gerard Way, Shaun Simon, and Becky Cloonan’s highly anticipated sci-fi epic will finally see publication in 2013!
Welcome to Battery City, where the disease is the cure!

In My Chemical Romance’s critically acclaimed album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, the Killjoys fought against the tyrannical megacorporation Better Living Industries. It cost them their lives, save for one—the mysterious Girl. Today, the followers of the original Killjoys languish in the desert while BLI systematically strips citizens of their individuality. As the fight for freedom fades, it’s left to the Girl to take up the mantle and bring down the fearsome BLI or else join the mindless ranks of Bat City!

“The original idea for the comic informed the record,” said Gerard Way. “The record helped refine the idea, and then Becky had done a drawing of the Girl for the single ‘The Only Hope for Me Is You’ and I saw it and thought, this is the comic. It’s basically the last video, it’s the last part of the Killjoys story, while at the same time being totally its own thing.”

“I think we have created a broad range of characters here,” said cowriter Shaun Simon. “A lonely teenage girl hiding from her past in the desert. A couple of android call girls wanting nothing more than to be together. An aging assassin with a secret that could destroy his life . . . Even though these characters are living in a bizarre sci-fi world, their struggles are the same we face in our own.”

“The world of the Killjoys is full of visual opposites—from sprawling deserts to urban junkyards—and a cast of characters to match,” said artist Becky Cloonan. “It’s been a challenge to encompass all of this in my art, but woven into the world building is a human spark that lights this story on fire and gives me so much to draw from.”

As announced at New York Comic Con, an early look into this world will be published as part of Free Comic Book Day 2013, with the first issue hitting stands the following month on June 6!
DARK HORSE ANNOUNCES SPECIAL $1
FIRST-ISSUE REPRINTS OF BRIAN WOOD’S
THE MASSIVE AND MATT KINDT’S MIND MGMT!

DECEMBER 17, MILWAUKIE, OR—In 2010, when Dark Horse launched the One for One program, making the first issue of select titles available for the low cover price of $1, the response was overwhelmingly positive from fans and retailers alike. Now, Dark Horse is making two of the biggest launches of 2012 available for less than the price of a cup of coffee!

Brian Wood’s postapocalyptic, eco-conscious epic The Massive has been a critics’ darling since before the first issue even hit stands. The thought-provoking series has garnered consistent praise issue after issue, and will see its first collection released on March 20, 2013.

Similarly, MIND MGMT, Matt Kindt’s electrifying tale of psychic spies and the journalist who stumbles upon their incredible secrets, is expected to make many critics’ top-ten lists for the year. The first collection is making its way to comic shops on April 3, 2013.

To celebrate, Dark Horse has decided to offer retailers and fans an opportunity to find out what they have been missing with two specially priced first-issue reprints, to be released on April 3, 2013! The Massive #1 will feature an all-new cover designed by series creator Brian Wood, while MIND MGMT will feature a brand-new cover by Matt Kindt!

Look for these special reprints in Diamond’s Previews catalog on January 30, 2013!

THE LITTLE GUY GETS HIS DAY IN ZED: A COSMIC TALE

Revamped Michel Gagné series collected in January

Image Comics has announced the January publication of ZED: A COSMIC TALE from multi-media artist Michel Gagné (THE SAGA OF REX). ZED, a cute, silly, yet epic science-fiction series, was self-published over a period of eleven years starting in 2001. The new collection of the series features art and writing that has been revised and reworked by Gagné.

"I fell in love with comics at an early age, and recall wanting to be a comic artist as one of my first childhood dreams", said Gagné. "I later became interested in animation and special effects and pursued a career in that field. Despite this new passion, I never wavered in my love of comics and ultimately couldn't shake the festering desire to create my own series. In early 2001, after finishing up a demanding job as Head of Special Effects at Warner Brothers Feature Animation, I took time off to make that dream come true. This is how ZED was born."

The first issue of ZED was self-published in July 2001 and the series concluded with issue 10, published in January 2012. Unfolding over the issues is the story of a cute young alien whose invention makes him the target of a galactic villain. Facing seemingly insurmountable odds, Zed must find the courage to save his home world from destruction.

Doing a comic series after hours, single-handedly, proved to be a more difficult task than Gagné first anticipated. "I planned to tell my tale over a period of ten issues and felt pretty confident, at the time, that I could have the whole thing wrapped up and published within a couple of years," said Gagné. "Little did I know that it would take me eleven years to finally bring the series to fruition. ZED is, first and foremost, a labor of love which I created at my own pace. The comic series became a way for me to build my graphic novel."

ZED reflects Gagné's deep love for golden age science fiction and oddball cartooning. It is influenced by his favorite books and movies, as well as political news, rock concerts and things he has experienced and witnessed throughout his life. With the series wrapped up, Gagné combined all ten issues into a single graphic novel that reads as one uninterrupted story. Because of the time span it took to get the series done, Gagné felt that the writing and art style needed a second pass to make them more consistent.

"The disparity from one issue to the next was less visible when separated into individual comic books, but all strung together in graphic novel form, the inconsistencies became painfully obvious", said Gagné. "When putting the final book together, I didn't treat it as a straight reprint book. I spend several months reworking the art and writing to make it more cohesive. I consider ZED: A Cosmic Tale published by Image Comics to be the definitive version of the story."

ZED: A COSMIC TALE will be in stores on January 30, 2013. It is available for pre-order now from the December issue of Previews.

Dixon and Gulacy Declassify G.I. JOE: SPECIAL MISSIONS!
The new series goes undercover this March!

San Diego, CA (December 14, 2012) – As part of the re-launch of G.I. JOE comics, based on the iconic brand from Hasbro, IDW Publishing is thrilled to announce G.I. JOE: SPECIAL MISSIONS! A new ongoing series helmed by comics legends Chuck Dixon and Paul Gulacy, G.I. JOE SPECIAL MISSIONS chronicles the G.I. JOE team members still operating undercover in the wake of many of their identities being exposed to the public. Tying directly into the story of Fred Van Lente and Steve Kurth’s G.I. JOE, Special Missions’ first arc shows how the evil BARONESS ends up high and dry in the eponymous G.I. JOE book.

As the raven-haired saboteur extraordinaire martials her forces and attempts to find her way back into the fold of multi-national terror organization COBRA, SCARLETT must put together an elite team to covertly de-fang the storied villainess! Calling on the best covert operators the G.I. JOE team has to offer, readers will be treated to adventures starring beloved characters like BEACH HEAD, MAINFRAME, TRIPWIRE, HARD DRIVE, ICE BERG, and STALKER, just to name a few!

Special Missions was always my favorite of all the original, classic G.I. JOE comics,” said an enthusiastic Dixon. “Larry Hama and Herb Trimpe did an amazing comic as well as monthly tutorials on comic book storytelling. I'm knocked out to get a shot at this title and having Paul Gulacy work with me is one of those too-good-to-be-true scenarios!”

“I could read Chuck Dixon writing hard military stories all day long,” said series editor Carlos Guzman. “Nobody's better at telling covert action stories than Chuck and Special Missions is him at his best, telling the most action-packed stories of his distinguished career. And when he’s paired up with his longtime collaborator Paul Gulacy? You can't ask for more than that.”

An espionage-fueled counterpoint to the explosive media madness of the ongoing G.I. JOE title, G.I. JOE: SPECIAL MISSIONS is a must-read for all G.I. JOE fans. If all that weren’t enough, the inaugural issue will feature a cover by Brandon Peterson, a wraparound cover by Jamal Igle, and a special Untold Tales of G.I. JOE cover by Jim Rugg!

ALIENS AND ZOMBIES INVADE IDW
Chris Ryall, Drew Moss, and Dave Sim Launch THE COLONIZED in April!

San Diego, CA (December 14, 2012) – This spring at IDW, where there’s aliens, there’s zombies! In THE COLONIZED, a new four-issue series launching in April, writer Chris Ryall, artist Drew Moss, and cover artist Dave Sim explore the arrival of these strangely interwoven threats in a secluded separatist town in Montana.
In the Carbon Falls Collective, Huxley Robertson is dealing with the passing of his father and pushing against old guard objections as he attempts to push the separatist camp into becoming a fully sustainable green town. As if circumstances weren’t volatile enough, a craft full of alien explorers inadvertently re-animates the town’s dead! Throw a rogue ATF agent into the mix, on the hunt for the town’s weapons cache, and let’s just say this is a bad time for the otherwise sleepy Carbon Falls Collective to be cut off from the outside world.

This potent mix of horror, drama, and black humor comes from Chris Ryall, no stranger to either aliens (Groom Lake) or zombies (Zombies vs. Robots), working with illustrator Drew Moss (Zombies vs. Robots Annual), and Locke & Key colorist Jay Fotos, with legendary Cerebus creator Dave Sim providing covers for the four-issue affair.

“Exploring the idea of ultimate outsiders like aliens landing in a separatist community and then having both besieged by zombies sounded like ripe territory for commentary-free chaos and some thrilling Drew Moss artwork,” said Chris Ryall, also IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief. “But then when Dave Sim miraculously signed on to do covers, it made it all coalesce into something even bigger and better.”

In addition to Sim’s covers, each issue will also offer special subscription-only variants from stellar artists like John Byrne--who tackles issue one--Gabriel Rodriguez, Zach Howard, and a player-to-be-named-soon.

“It’s great to be able to work with my friends on this,” Ryall added, “especially when those friends are so damned talented, they elevate anything they work on. Having Dave Sim or John Byrne covers on a book of our creation is an endless thrill for both Drew and I.”

THE COLONIZED #1 ($3.99, 32 pages; full color) will be available in stores in April 2013.

THE LAUNCH OF SOMETHING "SAVAGE”

SAVAGE SKULLKICKERS #1 Is Another First Issue

This March, Image Comics invites readers to jump on board action and adventure, newly reinvigorated with another very special adjective—THE SAVAGE SKULLKICKERS!

"The response to Uncanny Skullkickers was so tremendous that we knew we couldn't just let something that was working remain unchanged," said Image PR and Marketing Director Jennifer de Guzman. "Relaunching Skullkickers was a total game-changer! For a whole month, it wasn't just plain Skullkickers. It was Uncanny! And now it's going to be Savage! Game. Changer.”

SAVAGE SKULLKICKERS continues the epic SKULLKICKERS storyline and is a perfect jumping-on point for new readers. Even more perfect than last month.

"With over 180 issues released over the past 20 years, Erik Larsen's Savage Dragon is one of the most compelling and consistent creator-owned comics ever made," said creator Jim Zub. "In order to commemorate Erik's hard work and strident 'no relaunching, no renumbering' approach to his series, we thought we'd relaunch and renumber Skullkickers, stealing his precious 'Savage' adjective while we're at it. Thanks, Erik!”

And if you're a diehard collector of SKULLKICKERS sad that you won't have a SKULLKICKERS #20 to add to your collection? Don't worry, we've thought of everything. In addition to the regular "Savage” cover by series artist (and, remember, adorable elf-man) Edwin Huang and Zub himself, we're offering a special "issue #20 variant” B cover by Chris Stevens to make sure your collector streak is unbroken.

It's new. It's classic. It's a modern reinterpretation that gets back to the roots of these timeless characters. SAVAGE SKULLKICKERS #1 is available wherever kick ass comics are sold starting this March.

THE LEGEND CONTINUES

First issue of new LUTHER STRODE mini-series gets second printing

The eponymous Luther Strode makes his first appearance in the THE LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE #1 as a fist bursting through a closed door — and through a man's head. Justin Jordan's and Tradd Moore's creation, first introduced to the world in 2011 in THE STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE has come far indeed. Now, THE LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE #1 has sold out at the distributor level and will receive a second printing (NOV128050), to be in stores on January 9.

A sequel to a much-anticipated cult favorite, THE LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE #1 fulfilled critics' expectations of Jordan's and Moore's break-out work:

"Can someone so far gone into his own world be redeemed of his actions, however horrific they may be, if they're for a better world? "Legend” is essentially the much darker version in which most of the questions of "Strange Talent” are skewed through a lense covered in entrails, and the mixture of smart introspection and terrific action let the first entry into the second part of the Luther Strode trilogy a great kick-off."

"The Legend of Luther Strode has begun like a furious freight train with its brakes cut. As we all know, once something starts so wrathfully the pace must heighten or risk becoming stagnant. Being familiar with this team's past work, the likelihood of this book slowing down is slim. If The Legend of Luther Strode #1 is any indicator of how things will progress for this book in the future, get ready for one completely mind-blowing experience."

KISS Goes Solo!
A House Divided will Still Rock!

San Diego, CA (December 12, 2012) – Echoing their famous series of 1978 solo albums, this March, legendary rockers KISS take to solo adventures in a new miniseries from IDW Publishing! Further exploring the deep mythology that’s made the Kings of Rock hold dual citizenship as Kings of Comics, this year, The-Four-Who-Are-One must take up arms alone against a slew of dynamic enemies and evil forces.

Spread out across four dimension-shattering issues, this face-melting slew of hard-rocking comics tectonics kicks off with KISS SOLO: THE DEMON, a tale starring Gene Simmons’ classic alter ego, The Demon! Veteran KISS writer Chris Ryall and fan-favorite Kiss artist Angel Medina, rejoining the band for the first time since Kiss: Psycho Circus, weave another tale of epic bombast and explosive rock and paving the way for the accompanying tales of the Starchild, the Celestial, and the Catman!

“We’ve turned KISS into gangsters, barbarians and teenage girls so far in our KISS comics,” said Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer, “but now it’s time to give everyone the unfettered KISS over these four issues. Issue one sees the Demon taking on none other than the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and no one draws widescreen apocalyptic action better than Angel Medina. It’s a thrill to have Angel back in the KISS fold.”

In addition to providing full art on issue one, Medina is on board for covers for all four parts of the solo series. To further give longtime fans a bit more, each issue’s storyline and title is culled from the original solo album songs, such as issue one’s “Radioactive.”

Continuing a comics partnership as fruitful as it is sonically booming, the solo series is a must-have for comics fans and members of the KISS Army. After all, rocking ‘n’ rolling all night and reading comics every day sounds like a pretty solid plan, doesn’t it?
