Coldcut Distribution Gets A Facelift
Cold Cut Distribution is now Haven Distributors
(Chicago, IL – March 13, 2008) Rogue Wolf Entertainment announced today a new name to go along with the new face of Cold Cut… now known as Haven Distributors, or Haven Distro for short.
“Cold Cut Distribution had a solid base, but it’s time for a change,” explained Lance Stahlberg, Haven Distributors’ COO. “The independent comics terrain is some of the toughest there is in the pop culture market for retailers as well as publishers. Part of what we are trying to do is make it easier for both sides to do business together. ‘Haven’ made sense because that’s exactly what we offer both sides; a safe place to interact. We encourage both retailers and publishers to contact us with changes they would like to see as well. Feedback is not only welcomed but strongly desired!”
To join the Haven Distro newsletter, interested parties can use the signup form on www.HavenDistro.com, where they will also find a contact form for questions or feedback. Haven’s new international toll free phone number is 877-HAVEN-50 (877-428-3650). The old number, 866-4-COLDCUT, will remain active during the transition but will eventually be discontinued. Havendistributors.com and Coldcut.com will both forward to www.havendistro.com, and all current retailer accounts will still work in the existing shopping cart.
ABOUT ROGUE WOLF ENTERTAINMENT – www.Rogue-Wolf.net Rogue Wolf Entertainment, Inc was founded in 2006 with the idea of creating comics for comic fans. They currently produce three web-comic titles. With this new addition to their corporate portfolio, their focus will be on helping their fellow creators and valued supporters succeed and hopefully improve the comics industry as a whole in the process.

Greetings, all:
The street date for STRANGEWAYS: MURDER MOON is still scheduled for
March 26th. Having received the first batch of printed books, I
think that date will hold. The books themselves look pretty darn
good overall, but for a few cosmetic issues with my print layout
(learning experience and all that.)
For those of you in the Los Angeles area this weekend, I'll be at
Wizard World LA in the artist's alley. I'll have review copies to
hand out for bloggers and online or print reviewers. Be sure to stop
by and say hello. Always nice to put a face to the names that I see
online.
I believe that you can still place an order for the book at your
local comic store, if you haven't already, but it's likely to be
after the 3/26 date unless your store ordered them on their own. If
you don't live close to a comic store, I recommend the services of
http://www.khepri.com where you can order the book and have it mailed
out to you.
I'm also planning on attending the Stumptown Comics Festival in
Portland this April, and May is a busy, busy month with shows nearly
every weekend.
Posted to the blog, just this morning, is some new Guy Davis art,
this for the Strangeways bookplate I'm working on.

And, as always, you can read the first chapter online right here:

More posted as it happens.

IDW Publishing To Release Ghost Whisperer Comic Series Based on Hit CBS TV Show
Ghost Whisperer comics written by the show's writers,
Carrie Smith and Becca Smith
San Diego, CA (March 13, 2008)-Fans of Ghost Whisperer may not be able to communicate with the dead, but come March they will get to see more ghosts who are stuck between earth and the afterlife. That's because IDW Publishing (www.idwpublishing.com) is presenting a five-issue monthly comic series that spins out of the hit CBS television show starring Jennifer Love Hewitt as Melinda Gordon, the medium who helps ghosts cross over. The all-new comic series was written by Ghost Whisperer TV show writers Carrie Smith and Becca Smith and have art by Elena Casagrande, who also did the art for IDW Publishing's Star Trek Alien Spotlight: Orions.
"Our storyline is going to be written by people who are well aware of the overall story, as well as what is going to happen in the show that the fans don't even know about yet," says Tom Waltz, the series editor. "So the storyline is true to series without spoiling anything that is yet to come."
The comics fit in after Season 2 and before Season 3 and, as in the show, Melinda spends her days and nights helping earthbound spirits cross into the Light. But in this series Melinda gets more than she bargained for when she comes face-to-face with Osiris, Egyptian God of the Dead, who wants the souls for himself.
The comics follows the structure of the show in that a ghost needs to cross over in each issue. And, "The series keeps you on your toes, it's deep and spiritual and there are excellent cliffhangers," says Waltz. Unlike in the show, another ghost-Osiris-appears in each of the five issues, which ties the series together and keeps the momentum and tension going from one issue to the next.
The writers started with the Osiris premise, according to Carrie Smith, partially because John Gray, the creator of Ghost Whisperer, is a history nut. And the premise is fertile ground, both visually and story-wise, she says. "Ancient Egypt is just chock-full of cool visuals," she says. "You've got your mummies, hieroglyphics, scarabs, cool costumes and demons."
While Osiris and the lost ghosts are new to the series, "the plotline features all of the major characters and relationships that viewers are familiar with," says Carrie Smith. And, she says, no new sidekicks or ongoing characters are introduced in the comics.
Casagrande and artists Joselle Ho and Brian Miller provide chilling art for the covers. Plus some incentive issues have photo covers featuring Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Born under a bad sign, outlaw Machine Gun Kelly steamrolls into town, a scorched earth in his wake, and he’s ready to slash and burn for kicks.

ONI PRESS GOES ON VACATION WITH SALT WATER TAFFY!
Oni Press is proud to announce Salt Water Taffy: The Seaside Adventures of Jack and Benny, a new ongoing series of all-ages graphic novels by Matthew Loux.
In the spirit of kid friendly tales like THE GOONIES and BONE, comes a new all-ages romp. Published quarterly, SALT WATER TAFFY follows a pair of boys bound for the unusual hamlet of Chowder Bay--a small town full of big mysteries, giant adventures, and gargantuan lobsters. It's a place where anything can happen, and usually does.
Jack and Benny are two young brothers on vacation in Chowder Bay, Maine for the entire summer. With no television or batteries for his Gameboy, Jack couldn’t be more bored. But when Benny, the youngest of the pair, spots a dark, indistinguishable shape creeping toward the ocean, the boys' curiosity has them chasing one of Chowder Bay's oldest legends. What exactly did Benny see? And what does it have to do with the recent rash of taffy thefts plaguing Dr. True's sweet shop? Maybe the Putnam summer home won't be as boring as the brothers feared! With surly old fisherman, sea monsters, warring seagulls, civil war ghosts, giant kleptomaniac eagles and mysteries around every corner--Chowder Bay may not just be the strangest place Jack and Benny have ever been to, it might be one of the strangest on Earth!
The first book of the series, “The Legend of Old Salty”, introduces us to the characters, the town, and one of the great mysteries involving giant lobsters, crustacean labor politics, and Jack and Benny’s newfound addiction to Dr. True's salt water taffy!
“Matthew Loux’s SALT WATER TAFFY captures the childhood spirit of discovery and imagination in a world where video games and television are the dominant media,” explains James Lucas Jones, Oni Press’s editor in chief. “And in this world they find that passive entertainment can’t hold a candle to the genuine adventure and fun that comes from exploring the mysteries of this enigmatic seaside town.”
“One of the things we are really excited about is the value this series will present to readers,” says publisher Joe Nozemack. “Each volume will be 96 pages for only $5.95. That’s over four issues worth of content for the price of just two!”
Matthew’s previous graphic novel, SIDESCROLLERS, was named one of the prestigious Top Ten Great Graphic Novels for Teens by The Young Adult Library Services Association (a division of the American Library Association). He carries over the same cartooning prowess that he demonstrated in his previous effort to a younger audience.
SALT WATER TAFF: THE SEASIDE ADVENTURES OF JACK & BENNY, Vol. 1 is listed in the current PREVIEWS and will ship to comic book stores May 7th, 2008.
It is a 96 page black-and-white graphic novel for $5.95.
Diamond Code: MAR08 3899.

PRODUCER RICHARD SAPERSTEIN OPTIONS IDW PUBLISHING'S CONTROVERSIAL COMIC TITLE "SNAKED" FOR FEATURE FILM
IDW Continues Expansion into Film World after Success of
30 Days of Night
(San Diego, CA; March 10, 2008) - On the heels of the success of the motion picture adaptation of the graphic novel 30 Days of Night, IDW Publishing, a division of IDT Internet Mobile Group, announced that another of its graphic novels has been optioned by a major feature film producer. Producer Richard Saperstein, former President of Production of Dimension Films, who has overseen such films as 1408, Rob Zombie's Halloween, The Mist, John Q, The Punisher, Frequency, and Se7en, has optioned IDW's hot, new comic series, SNAKED. IDW Publishing president and founder Ted Adams and SNAKED author Clifford Meth are executive producers. Shara Kay will co-produce and Mr. Meth will write the screenplay.
An instant horror sensation upon its release in December, 2007, the first SNAKED comic sold out at stores across the country. The third book in the series was released on February 13th. Based on an original story by Mr. Meth, whom Barnes & Noble calls "one of dark fiction's best kept secrets," SNAKED is a horror-noir that follows the personal and political exploits of a government employee with supernatural, snake-like abilities. First illustrated by Dave Cockrum (co-creator of X -Men), SNAKED has featured cover art by Ashley Wood and illustrations by Rufus Dayglo.
Mr. Saperstein was drawn to the story's dynamic characters and timely political message. "As a producer," he says, "I'm drawn to characters that are forced to explore the limits of their own humanity in situations that test their rational minds. The political arena forms the perfect backdrop for Clifford Meth's heady mix of horror, sex and mayhem. I am also pleased to be working with Ted Adams and the folks at IDW, who are always breaking new ground in the world of comics and graphic novels."
"If there is one thing I have learned from my experience with the filmmaking community," said Mr. Adams, "it is to work with the very best. We experienced that luxury on 30 Days of Night and now we're fortunate to be partnered with Richard Saperstein, a renowned producer with a stellar track record. SNAKED is the most controversial book we have ever published and I know that Richard will bring this story to the screen with incredible style, wit and daring."

announce their brand new website. Designed to be more a interactive
experience for both fans and retailers, the site features all of the

Publisher Harry Markos explains, "We have a very exciting year ahead
of us, with some groundbreaking new titles such as The Boy Who Made
Silence, Lazarus: Immortal Coils, N-Guard, and Sunset to name but a
few, and we are very keen to show people the positive direction that
we are moving in. The new website, which was launched recently, will
feature two new web comics by the end of April, as well as offering
visitors the opportunity to download the first issue of every series
that we have published for free. It will be updated on a much more
regular basis, which was something we lacked previously and which was
a constant source of irritation to many of our loyal supporters. It is
an exciting time for us and we hope that we can show people that we
are here for the long run."

IRAQ WAR GRAPHIC NOVELS
Cartoonists Explore War in Iraq and Afghanistan As the War's Fifth
Anniversary Draws Near
March 20 is the fifth anniversary of the United States’ entry into the
Iraq war. The news media will observe that day with stories of the war
and its consequences.
Graphic novelists and political cartoonists have responded to the war
in Iraq and the larger war on terror by creating striking work. NBM
Publishing is honored to present their work to the public.
NBM books related to the war include:
War Fix, by combat journalist David Axe and Steve Olexa. War Fix is
Axe’s journal of his addiction to the excitement of being in battle.
Amazon.com placed War Fix on its list of 2006’s ten best graphic
novels, and the American Library Association's Young Adult Library
Services Association nominated the book for its list of Great Graphic
Novels.
Johnny Jihad by Ryan Inzana. Based on the facts of terrorist training
camps in the U.S.A. and inspired by “American Taliban” John Walker
Lindh, Johnny Jihad tells how an ordinary teenager becomes a jihadist –
and what happens when the CIA catches him. Booklist has named Johnny
Jihad one of the year’s ten best graphic novels.
Generalissimo El Busho: Essays and Cartoons on the Bush Years by Ted
Rall. The controversial Pulitzer Prize finalist and Firecracker
Alternative Book Award winner compiles his most scathingly satirical
cartoons and commentary. Generalissimo El Busho is a brilliantly
tragicomic week-by-week dissection of the Bush Administration.
Attitude, Attitude 2, Attitude 3. These collections of new subversive
cartoons and interviews with their creators have appeared every other
year since 2002. Edited by Ted Rall, Attitude collects the best new
political cartoonists, Attitude 2 covers alternative cartoons, and
Attitude 3 spotlights talent from the online world.
Silk Road to Ruin: Is Central Asia the New Middle East? by Ted Rall.
The cartoonist went to Afghanistan and other parts of what he calls the
New Middle East, and returned with this mix of travelogue, political
analysis, and graphic novel. He sees Islamic radicalism, oil wealth,
and American ambition collide to turn the region east of Iraq into
something explosive.

NBM Publishing in May: ORDINARY VICTORIES concludes!
One of TIME magazine’s “5 Fantastic Graphic Novels” reaches climax;
plus, Proust and Eurotica
New from COMICSLIT
ORDINARY VICTORIES : What is Precious
By Manu Larcenet
TIME magazine put ORDINARY VICTORIES on its list of “5 Fantastic
Graphic Novels,” and the Angoulême International Comics Festival gave
it the Year’s Best Comic Book award. It’s about Marco: a tired,
small-town photographer who’s been dealing with a pain-in-the-neck cat,
a cute woman who seems (against all odds) to like him, and a neighbor
who seems likable until Marco discovers his disturbing role in wartime.
In this second and concluding volume, Marco has a child and loses his
father, his mother learns about living alone, a man dies in the
countryside, and a journalist cracks under pressure. Manu Larcenet
(Astronauts of the Future, Dungeon) tells an extraordinarily moving
story about rare moments, small sadnesses, and a guy trying to live the
best way he can.
Full-color trade paperback, 6 1/2” x 9”, 128 pages, $15.95, ISBN
978-1-56163-533-7.
Also available is ORDINARY VICTORIES’ acclaimed first volume (ISBN
1-56163-423-9). Some reviews:
"[One of the ] top ten graphic novels of the year." -- Booklist
"A compelling, insightful story." -- Publishers Weekly
"Achieves a degree of sensitivity and emotional nuance rare in any
literary medium, and [the] expressive, cartoonish drawings help
contribute subtle humor to the chronicle of Marco's plight." -- Kirkus
Reviews
Now in paperback!
REMEMBRANCE OF THINGS PAST
Part Three: Swann in Love, Volume 1
By Marcel Proust, adapted by Stephane Heuet
The acclaimed adaptation continues. Swann is a guest of high-society
soirees at the end of the 19th century. At first, he feels no
attraction to frivolous, superficial Odette de Crecy -- but soon, she
becomes an obsession.
"Heuet's translation to sequential art retains the work's distinctive
period feel and eye for detail." -- Publishers Weekly
"Just as delightful as its predecessors. I have to admit part of what
impresses me is that Heuet is trying this at all. I can think of few
novels that suggest themselves for comics adaptation less. Yet he pulls
it off, adding texture to Proust's immortal prose." -- Andrew Smith,
Scripps-Howard Papers
