GUN HILL ROAD CHALLENGE TO AMERICA
Motion Film Group CEO Challenges Obama, Congress and America to Address Gay Rights Issues Presented in Film

August 4, 2011 (Malibu, CA)–The C.E.O. of Motion Film Group, Inc., has issued a challenge to President Obama, Congress and America in general to wake up and accept the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals to be treated fairly and equally under the constitution. Issues and themes presented in the feature film, “Gun Hill Road,” illustrate some of the challenges that families and individuals endure when dealing with gender identity and sexual orientation, said Foti Georgiadis, C.E.O. of the film’s distribution company. If President Obama, Congress and many Americans found themselves placed in a similar circumstance as shown in the film, the result would likely be a far more progressive and enlightened acceptance of alternative lifestyles and orientations, he concluded.

“I’ve always thought of myself as a traditional family man, with a lovely wife and three adorable children. So the topic of gender identity and sexual orientation had not been a priority issue for me,” said Georgiadis. “However, when I saw this film at the Sundance Festival, I was deeply moved by the dramatic situations that developed between the family members of a transgender teenager, and knew that this film had a timely and important message. I’d like to challenge President Obama and Congress to watch this film, and furthermore challenge any macho-man in America to put themselves in the same situation as the father in our film, and tell me there can be no compassion for those who might be different from the mainstream.”

Motion Film Group has offered to loan a print of the film, “Gun Hill Road” to the White House for a private viewing of the President and his staff. Separately, the company is organizing a private screening in Washington, D.C. in September, with free admission for any members of the Senate, the House of Representatives and their direct staff.

“We can’t screen the film free for everyone in America,” said Georgiadis. “But if we can get a good turnout among members of Congress or White House staffers, that would be an important step towards building a deeper understanding of these issues.”

“Gun Hill Road” opens in theatres in New York tomorrow, August 5, and opens in Los Angeles on August 12. The film is slated to be expanded to most key markets nationwide over the next two months.

“Gun Hill Road” follows macho ex-con Enrique (Morales) who returns to the Bronx after his latest prison sentence to find the world he once knew has turned upside down. While his wife, Angela (Reyes), struggles to hide an emotional affair, his now-teenage son, Michael, explores a sexual transformation well beyond Enrique’s grasp. Unable to accept his child, Enrique clings to his masculine ideals while Angela attempts to hold the family together and protect Michael. Still under the watchful eye of his parole officer (Isiah Whitlock, Jr), Enrique must become the father he needs to be or, once again, risk losing his family and freedom.

The film features performances by seasoned actors Morales, Reyes, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Franky G, Vincent Laresca, Miriam Colon, and Vanessa Aspillaga, as well as acting debuts by extraordinary people Green discovered on the streets and subways of New York City, including newcomer Harmony Santana, who portrays the conflicted teenager in the story.

“Gun Hill Road”is produced by SimonSays Entertainment in association with A Small Production Company. With a mission to "tell every story," SimonSays Entertainment, Inc. develops diverse projects for film, television, and theater. The debut film from SimonSays, Night Catches Us, opened theatrically in December 2010 through Magnolia Pictures.

Rashaad Ernesto Green, the writer and director of “Gun Hill Road,” is an award-winning director of short films such as “Premature,” “Cuts” and “Choices.” Green was included on the latest edition of Filmmaker Magazine’s elite 25 New Faces of Independent Film list. A Bronx native, Green earned a BA from Dartmouth, an MFA from the NYU Graduate Acting Program, and an MFA from the NYU Graduate Film Program.

AN EXTENDED STAY IN GREEN WAKE
Wiebe and Rossmo Invite Readers to Experience Horror of Critically Acclaimed Continuing Series

Berkeley, CA – 4 August 2011 – Kurtis Wiebe (INTREPIDS) and Riley Rossmo's (PROOF, COWBOY NINJA VIKING) disturbing tale of the town of GREEN WAKE will soon be collected into its first trade paperback, but the horrors won't end there, because Image Comics and Shadowline Productions are making GREEN WAKE an ongoing series.

"The response to GREEN WAKE has been so encouraging," said Wiebe. "It's such a great feeling to realize that this brand new idea, this new world that we've created in GREEN WAKE resonates with readers, and that they want to read more."

"Kurtis and I have put a lot of strange, gory stuff into this book," added Rossmo. "Sometimes we stand back and look at what we've come up with, and there have been more than a few times that we've wondered, 'Is this too far?' Fortunately, it seems our readers are just as sick as we are!"

Wiebe continued: "The move from miniseries to continuing series is what we hoped for, as GREEN WAKE proved from the beginning to be a complex story full of new angles and side plots. At this point I think it's safe to say that we aren't going anywhere. Both Riley and I have plenty more up our sleeves, and this first collection is only the beginning!"

Each issue of GREEN WAKE has been met with overwhelmingly positive reviews, including the following glowing endorsements:

"Wiebe has had us in the palm of his hand through this whole ride and does not let us go for one moment. Even as the book comes to a close, and you feel yourself being freed, his grip tightens at the very last moment." -- Danial Carroll, Comic Book Revolution

"A stunning blend of happiness and sadness with a splash of perspective in the mix. GREEN WAKE is a fascinating contrast of fate and choice that will leave you questioning yourself and the crossroads you've taken in your life. The ending to this series was perfect and I wouldn't have changed a thing about it." -- Felicity Gustafson, Comics Bulletin

"GREEN WAKE is definitely the stand out series of the year, Wiebe’s writing and Rossmo’s art combine perfectly in the ultimate form of storytelling. Original, beautiful, compelling and sad, this comic is more than hard to top." -- Niall Alexander, Comic Buzz

“The writing from Wiebe is absolutely pitch perfect and it couldn’t be matched to the art with more precision. This might just be a perfect mystery opening, and you absolutely need to buy this comic.” -- Ryan Lindsay, CBR

"GREEN WAKE is shaping up to be one of the great mini-series of 2011. Smart, fast moving, and full of intriguing mystery, GREEN WAKE is a beautiful book that you’ll be thinking about for hours after you finish.” -- Kelly Thompson, CBR
GREEN WAKE TP (JUL110468, ISBN: 978-1-60706-432-9), a 136-page full color comic book goes on sale September 21, 2011 for $16.99. GREEN WAKE #6 (AUG110520) picks up where the trade leaves off on October 26 and is available for order in the current issue of Diamond Previews.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 8.4.2011: Oni Press Unveils Brian Churilla's THE SECRET HISTORY OF D.B. COOPER

Don’t believe the FBI's recent announcement regarding a “promising lead” in their forty-year search for the most infamous hijacker in history, D.B. Cooper. It is our contention this is likely an attempt to by the government to discredit the forthcoming Oni Press series, THE SECRET HISTORY OF D.B. COOPER, which finally reveals the truth regarding the case. Though the book has been in production for some time, we feel it prudent to announce it now in hopes to refute this “new evidence”.

From creator Brian Churilla, the book chronicles the life of the mythic folk hero, revealing that "The DB Cooper Incident" was not a hijacking and extortion plot as widely reported. In fact, this cover story is quite pedestrian, as what really happened nearly changed the course of human history.

The Secret History of D. B. Cooper

Written and illustrated by Brian Churilla
Full color, 22 pages

Monthly starting in March 2012

ABOUT THE FIRST ISSUE: The most infamous hijacker of all time, D.B. Cooper remains on the FBI’s most-wanted list nearly forty years after the alleged crime. For the first time, the secret history of the man and the truth regarding the hijacking will be revealed. During the height of the Cold War, a fringe group within the CIA wages a crusade on the deadliest battlefield of all: the human mind. D.B. Cooper participated in a campaign of subterfuge wherein altered states of consciousness were used to assassinate Soviet targets from afar. But as Cooper deteriorates mentally and physically, the line between two worlds blurs, and he becomes a rogue agent.

This mind-bending account of the legendary outlaw’s exploits is not to be missed!

TRAVEL CHANNEL JOURNEYS TO THE OTHER SIDE WITH THE LAUNCH OF A NEW ORIGINAL INVESTIGATIVE SERIES “THE DEAD FILES”

ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 AT 10:00 PM ET/PT

New Series to be Paired with Season Five of “Ghost Adventures,”

Featuring Travails of the Popular Paranormal Investigative Team as

They Explore Haunted Locations Around the World

Chevy Chase, Md. (August 4, 2011) – Travel Channel will take viewers on a paranormal journey on Friday nights beginning September 23 with the launch of “The Dead Files,” an original investigative series premiering at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. The new one-hour series pairs a hard-nosed detective, who looks at the physical evidence, with a gifted psychic communicator, who has her well established sixth sense to work with. They explore each crime scene on their own, and only join together at the end to compare notes and together discover some shocking results. “The Dead Files” will be paired with the fifth season of the hit show “Ghost Adventures”, premiering at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT as the popular investigative team discovers locations that are ample with dark history, brimming with trapped souls and energy.

“Our Friday night series takes viewers beyond the haunted destinations -- They provide a different type of escape, providing a taste of the other side and a new perspective on their own surroundings,” said Fred Graver, SVP, Programming & Development, Travel Channel.

Premiering at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, “The Dead Files” introduces heroes who are both incredibly gifted in their fields of expertise, and see what no one else can. The team approaches every case from their two specific areas of expertise: Steve DiSchiavi is a retired Homicide Detective with the New York City Police Department with more than 21 years of active service; and Amy Allan is a Psychic Communicator. Each investigator’s methods and findings remain hidden from the other team member to preserve the integrity of their discoveries, until the shocking results are revealed to the homeowner in the compelling conclusion of each episode. While much of Steve’s factual findings have already been disclosed to the audience during his investigation, the most shocking information is saved for last. During this moment of truth, Steve and Amy come together with the homeowner to present all of their findings, which gel into one undeniable – and often terrifying – conclusion.

During this one-hour, eight-episode series, Steve begins each investigation exploring the property, questioning the owners or tenants about what they’ve witnessed and what they know about the building’s past. Then he goes out to gather more facts -- speaking to local historians, police investigators and even tracking down past owners of the property. Amy is a paranormal researcher, physical medium and psychometrist. Her abilities have been studied and tested by leading parapsychologists and she’s worked with many private investigators and police agencies. Amy knows absolutely nothing about locations before entering, after all photos or revealing objects have been removed. Amy channels the dead, often assuming their role and reliving their death. She later shares her findings with the homeowners and provides them with a better understanding of what – or who – is sharing their house.

“The Dead Files” is produced by Painless Productions for the Travel Channel. For Painless
the executive producer is Jim Casey and the co-executive producers are John C. Fitzgerald and Ross Kaiman. The executive producer for the Travel Channel is David E. Gerber.

Season five of “Ghost Adventures” returns with paranormal investigators Zak Bagans and Nick Groff, along with equipment technician Aaron Goodwin as they unveil the history and dark secrets of haunted locations around the world. This season takes a deeper dive into the culture and history of these spooky locations before the overnight ghost investigation occurs, visiting never before investigated locations including the Mizpah Hotel in Tenopah, Nev. and the Ashmore Estates in Ashmore, Ill. After completing over a hundred investigations and 64 episodes of the series, the trio takes their acquired ghost tracking skills to the next level -- uncovering even more gripping scientific evidence -- as they become more skilled at taunting and using equipment to engage the other side.

During the premiere episode, the guys head to the rural Midwest to clash with the demonic forces at the Ashmore Estates. In 1870, the Ashmore Estates was a poor house, filled with social outcasts. After almost a century of countless deaths, the estates were then modified to be a psychiatric hospital in 1959. Some of the worst patients from another psych ward were sent here to continue their tortured existence. In 1986, Ashmore closed for good, and ever since, it’s been plagued with a demonic presence. While there, the trio hopes to discover these evil entities in order to learn more about their malicious ways.

“Ghost Adventures” is produced by MY Tupelo Entertainment for the Travel Channel. For MY Tupelo Entertainment the executive producers are Michael Yudin and Joe Townley. The executive producer for the Travel Channel is Daniel A. Schwartz.

A HEALTHY DOSE OF DOC BIZARRE, M.D.
Joe Casey and Andy Suriano Administer Dark Humor in Upcoming Graphic Novel

Berkeley, CA – 3 August 2011 – The writer of GODLAND and recent, over-the-top sensation BUTCHER BAKER, THE RIGHTEOUS MAKER has once again teamed up with his former CHARLATAN BALL collaborator Andy Suriano to offer readers a new solution to their supernatural problems. DOC BIZARRE, M.D., a strange tale of sick monsters, medically-challenged myths, and ghouls at Death’s door, will debut in October from Image Comics.

"I loved collaborating with Joe again," Suriano said. "Every time we put our heads together I feel like I need a trip to the sanitarium after--the dude's sick! In the best possible way, of course. This new cast of characters we brought to life are twisted and equally as colorful; I just hope everyone's ready for the bizarre!"

"Another technicolor brain dump from Andy and me," added Casey. "This time delivered in one, easily digestible chunk of hardcover graphic novel goodness! Hopefully folks will have as much fun reading it as we had making it."

Prepare to enter the world of DOC BIZARRE, M.D., a world of coughing creeps and diseased devils, a world where a doctor’s prescription might include wolfsbane and garlic, a world where even the most powerful vampires find themselves crippled by the common cold. Who else can they turn to for relief, but DOC BIZARRE, M.D.?

DOC BIZARRE M.D., a 72-page full color comedic horror comic for $12.99, is available to order in the August issue of Previews and will be available at a comic store near you on October 19, 2011.

SCIENCE IS THE HOME FOR JUNKYARD GENIUS IN AUGUST WITH TWO WORLD PREMIERE SERIES – JUNKies AND STUCK WITH HACKETT

-- JUNKies and STUCK WITH HACKETT Premiere on Thursday, August 18, at 10:00 PM (ET/PT) and 10:30 PM (ET/PT) on SCIENCE—

(Silver Spring, Md.)—SCIENCE—television’s home for audacious genius—digs deep this August with the world premieres of two enormously entertaining series appealing to the “enginerd” in us all. Beginning August 18, audiences will meet the jester of the junkyard when trash connoisseur Jimmy Ruocco reveals his latest creations in JUNKies at 10:00 PM (ET/PT). Immediately following, survivalist savant Chris Hackett proves himself to be a “post-apocalyptic MacGyver” in STUCK WITH HACKETT, at 10:30 PM (ET/PT).

Long Island’s Freeport Junk and Wrecking is the setting for SCIENCE’s world premiere August series, JUNKies. This is the premiere junkyard for the subculture of high-end inventors, backyard builders and antique pickers constantly looking for missing parts to complete their passion projects. The Freeport team, led by Jimmy “The Junk Genius” Ruocco, will go to any lengths to construct new and inspired devices; with highlights including a hovercraft, a coffin car, a lawn mower racer and a flamethrower—all made from the finest discarded spare parts. These guys know the guts, bolts and science inside even the most unique machines. Crossing paths with a crazy cast of characters, they encounter everyone from inventors and students to mechanics and artists. This eclectic band of dumpster divers will redefine engineering on JUNKies on Thursday, August 18, at 10:00 PM (ET/PT).

STUCK WITH HACKETT features “alternative engineer” and survival expert Chris Hackett. Each episode finds Hackett left alone in an extreme environment—from deep wilderness, to ruined cities, to arid deserts—with little more than his wits and ingenuity. The goal isn’t survival, however; it’s luxury … achieved by any means necessary. Through a series of video diaries, he explains how to turn junk into creature comforts, such as making a hot tub in a snowy terrain, fashioning an A/C unit from spare airplane parts and fermenting leaves to run a washing machine. Watch Hackett turn one man’s nightmare into his own personal retreat using common sense and a lot of spare parts in STUCK WITH HACKETT on Thursday, August 18, at 10:30 PM (ET/PT).

“SCIENCE is the home for the ‘thought provocateur,’ and no two characters personify this title more than Hackett and Jimmy. Every adventure turns a trash heap into a treasure hunt, and their out-of-this-world creativity is what makes these two truly unique characters must-see television,” said Debbie Adler Myers, general manager and executive vice president of SCIENCE. “We cannot wait to share their distinct brands of ‘junkyard genius’ with the world.”

JUNKies is produced for SCIENCE by Leftfield Pictures. David George, Brent Montgomery and Colby Gaines are executive producers for Leftfield Pictures. Bernadette McDaid is vice president of production and executive producer for SCIENCE.

STUCK WITH HACKETT is produced for SCIENCE by Silver Machine. Nathaniel Grouille and Korelan Matteson are executive producers for Silver Machine. Bernadette McDaid is vice president of production and Wyatt Channel is executive producer, with Lindsey Foster as associate producer for SCIENCE.
