The Mercenary by Vicente Segrelles Returns
to Print in New, Remastered Deluxe Editions
On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, NBM Graphic Novels is proud to re-release The Mercenary, one of the world's first highly realistic fully painted comics, which we originally released over three decades ago.

Brought back in even better reproduction than ever with all-new scans of the original paintings overseen by the master Vincente Segrelles, himself, and presented in handsome large quarterbound collectors editions. Each panel could be a painting on your wall! These volumes will take your breath away.

In October the first volume, The Cult of the Sacred Fire, arrives in stores.  In a lost and long forgotten valley high up in the mountains, The Mercenary has been contracted to save a woman from the mysterious and powerful Cult of the Sacred Fire!

Each volume is complemented with articles at the back about the history and the making of this series over its gloried decades-long history.

"The Cult of The Sacred Fire was one of my first introductions to fully painted graphic novels and to this day holds up against the best of them. Segrelles inspired generations to push the art for further with this breakthrough book and 40 years later, its looking better than ever. A must have for any illustrator or storyteller."
– Jimmy Palmiotti, writer of Harley Quinn; creator of Painkiller Jane

"I remember well when these books first came out. I bought all of them. They had a great influence on me as a painter; also on my interest in sequential art. Vincent Segrelles is a superlative storyteller in both words and pictures. Like the extraordinary art of his Uncle, Jose Segrelles, the work of Vincente is not to be missed!"
– Joe DeVito, creator and illustrator of King Kong of Skull Island

THE MERCENARY THE DEFINITIVE EDITION VOL 1: THE CULT OF THE SACRED FIRE by Vicente Segrelles
(Diamond Code AUG171854) hits stores on Wednesday, October 25, 2017.
Giant Days Brings the Holiday Cheer

in an All-New Special!

Celebrate your favorite time of the year with BOOM! Studios in November 2017

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. (August 16, 2017) – BOOM! Studios is excited to announce the GIANT DAYS 2017 SPECIAL, on-sale in November 2017. Just in time for the holiday season, Eisner Award-nominated Giant Days creator John Allison (Bad Machinery) is teaming up with Jem & the Misfits  artist Jenn St-Onge for a tribute to the films of Richard Curtis, because nothing says London at Christmastime like Love, Actually.

When Esther is invited to stay with her friend and mentor, Shelley Winters—who is less a mentor and more utterly mental—she brings Daisy and Susan with her.  Shelley Winters is a great and distinguished career woman who is hopelessly in love. Susan, Esther and Daisy observe (read: aggressively meddle in) her life, falling back on tried-and-true rom-com cliches to teach her some valuable life lessons.

“It’s a tribute to the films of Richard Curtis, and the Bridget Jones movies, by someone who has seen those movies perhaps once, and maybe not all the way through,” says Allison.

The GIANT DAYS 2017 SPECIAL is also a tribute to the fictionalized London-as-written for Americans, according to Allison. “Iconic locations are presented as if they’re a brief walk away from each other, 1950s throwbacks still seem to walk the streets, it’s very clean, there are no poor people,” Allison describes.  “The ghosts of Mary Poppins and bad dentistry loom large, but not as large as Colin Firth. He’s everywhere.”

“Readers can expect some holiday hijinx from our main ladies (with only the best intentions, of course), some gentle ‘Love, Actually’ inspiration, and the return of some familiar faces for longtime readers of John Allison's comics,” adds artist Jenn St-Onge. “I'm a huge fan of Giant Days and I really hope that as a guest artist (and non-Brit) I do this special justice!”

Giant Days is one of BOOM! Studios’ most acclaimed series, earning numerous award nominations, including Eisners, Harveys, and one for Best Humor Comic by the inaugural Ringo Awards (which comics pros can vote on at ringoawards.com.) The ongoing series was first illustrated by animation artist Lissa Treiman and is currently drawn by Max Sarin and Liz Fleming, who won a National Cartoonists Society Award for their work.

Print copies of the GIANT DAYS 2017 SPECIAL will be available for sale at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one) or at the BOOM! Studios webstore in November. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers including comiXology, iBooks, Google Books, and the BOOM! Studios app.

The GIANT DAYS 2017 SPECIAL is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ critically acclaimed BOOM! Box imprint, home to popular original series such as Lumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooke A. Allen, and Noelle Stevenson; The Backstagers by James Tynion IV and Rian Sygh; SLAM! by Pamela Ribon and Veronica Fish; and Goldie Vance by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams.

ALL-NEW ACTION-HORROR SERIES DARK FANG TAKES A BITE OUT OF CLIMATE CHANGE
PORTLAND, OR, 08/15/2017 — Writer Miles Gunter (NYC MECH) and artist Kelsey Shannon (BASTARD SAMURAI) will launch their ecological action series DARK FANG this November from Image Comics.

When Valla lived, she was a fisherwoman. In death, she is a vampire, peacefully residing on the bottom of the ocean—until a mysterious dark plague descends upon her aquatic paradise.

Searching for answers on the surface, Valla finds a world headed toward an environmental collapse that will ultimately wipe out her food supply. Now, to stay fed, she must take on the juggernaut that is the global fossil fuel industry.

Climate change deniers beware: DARK FANG is coming.

“DARK FANG was largely born out of the anger and frustration I feel towards people either denying or having an apathetic attitude towards climate change,” said Gunter. “Working on this book has been a fun catharsis for all my frustration about the issue, and I hope it will be a catharsis for others who feel the same way.”

“I've worked on many books that are devoid of any meaning beyond its own self-contained universe,” said Shannon. “But this is the first time I've had the opportunity to invest myself in something that is not only fun and sexy, but also has meaning beyond itself and our art form. It actually has something important to say and I find that tremendously exciting!”

DARK FANG #1 (Diamond code: SEP170613) arrives in stores Wednesday, November 15th. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, October 23rd.

MYTHS BECOME RALLYING CRIES IN COYOTES
All-new super-smart, ultra-violent series arrives this November
PORTLAND, OR, 08/15/2017 — Writer Sean Lewis (THE FEW, SAINTS) and rising-star artist Caitlin Yarsky will launch their new series COYOTES this November from Image Comics.

Women are disappearing. A legion of wolves roam the border, hunting them down, and a band of survivors have come together, ready to wage war.

Detective Frank Coffey is struggling to wrap his head around this mythic-level bloodbath when he meets Red, a little girl with a secret—and a sword.

“Every once in a while, my wife will read me a weird fact about women who go missing across the world,” said Lewis. “It's always staggering. It's always unsolved. It's terrifying. So I wanted to go to war with that. COYOTES is about women who go missing, women who fight back, and stories we tell ourselves to get through life.”

“My favorite fantasy stories are the ones that help us relate to each other and our own reality, and COYOTES is all about that,” said Yarsky. “As soon as I read it, I could envision the stark, gritty world and the badass women that band together to change their narrative. It's a thrill working with Sean to create such a unique and mythic tale.”

COYOTES #1 (Diamond code: SEP170611) arrives in comic shops Wednesday, November 8th. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, October 16th.

EVOLUTION—AN UNPREDICTABLE, THOUGHT-PROVOKING NEW HORROR SERIES

PORTLAND, OR, 08/17/2017 — Image/Skybound Entertainment unites writers James Asmus, Joseph Keatinge, Christopher Sebela, and Joshua Williamson with artists Joe Infurnari and Jordan Boyd to create a new global phenomenon in EVOLUTION. The new series is set to launch with an oversized debut issue this November.

“Society now moves at an exponentially rapid pace. Our technology processes information faster than our biology is capable of handling,” said Keatinge. “Evolution explores what happens when this goes awry when humanity is left behind by its progress, venturing into unexpected, horrifying directions.”

Asmus added: "If reading this book is anything like writing it, it'll be a disturbing, thought-provoking, and cathartic ride through some very real anxieties about shifting society, what lurks inside us, and realizing just how few guard rails there are keeping us safe. But with enough twists, body horror, and murder that keep it fun!"

Human evolution has taken millions of years to get to the stage it’s reached in EVOLUTION. But next week, we become something new. Around the world, humanity is undergoing rapid and unpredictable changes, and only three individuals seem to notice that their world is being reborn. But what can they do about it?

“Horror is a slippery and weird genre,” said Sebela. “Not everything scares everyone else the same way. But I know what I want out of mine: long tendrils of dread, a fog of doom, deep conspiracies, monsters—especially the human variety—and loss. Evolution’s horror focuses on that sense of loss, one that can be as deadly as a psycho in a mask. Loss of control over our world, our lives and even our bodies, it’s everything we’re always facing but in a much bloodier package."

EVOLUTION #1 (Diamond Code SEP170638) will be available in stores on Wednesday, November 15th. The final order cutoff from retailers is Monday, October 23rd.

Studios. “The tactile experience Jon has created—the thrill of discovery, of finding connections in context—is unlike anything I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It’s like discovering a relative's long-abandoned hope chest and the story told in its crumbling contents.”

Bad Mask first debuted exclusively in in the BOOM! Box 2015 Mix Tape, told in the form of Gabrielle’s comic journal “Gab Mask,” where she discusses her life and her controversial opinions on the terrorist group Bad Mask.

Bad Mask is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ critically acclaimed BOOM! Box imprint, home to popular original series such as Lumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooke A. Allen, and Noelle Stevenson; Giant Days by John Allison, Lissa Treiman, and Max Sarin; The Backstagers by James Tynion IV and Rian Sygh; SLAM! by Pamela Ribon and Veronica Fish; and Goldie Vance by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams.

Bad Mask will be available for sale in November at local comic book shops (to find a shop near you, visit comicshoplocator.com); booksellers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Books-A-Million; or through the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers including comiXology, iBooks, Google Books, and the BOOM! Studios app.

Announce Kong on the Planet of the Apes

The iconic primates meet for the first time in an unprecedented crossover event

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. (August 9, 2017) – BOOM! Studios, DeVito Artworks LLC, and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products are excited to announce KONG ON THE PLANET OF THE APES, a comic book series bringing together two of entertainment’s biggest icons for the first time ever! Writer Ryan Ferrier (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Kennel Block Blues) and artist Carlos Magno (Planet of the Apes, Kong of Skull Island) team up for the six-issue series that promises to deliver an epic story starring the best-known primates in pop culture.

Following the events of the first Planet of the Apes film (1968), Dr. Zaius and General Ursus lead a small group of soldiers to the Forbidden Zone to destroy any remaining evidence of Taylor’s time among them. To their surprise, they discover… a KONG! Now they must travel to Skull Island to discover the truth, but they may not survive the deadliest journey of their lives!

“There's such a deep mythology to both properties, especially if you consider all of the amazing Kong and Apes comics that have come out in recent years,” said Ryan Ferrier. “With this series, we've found a coherent, meaningful way of having these two worlds and their legacies fold into each other. The implications of the Ape civilization discovering the Kong world are huge, and that's certainly on the forefront of the series.”

Covers for Kong on the Planet of the Apes #1 are illustrated by Mike Huddleston (The Coffin), series artist Carlos Magno, and movie poster artist Hans Woody.

BOOM! Studios’ Kong comics are based on Joe DeVito’s Skull Island and Merian C. Cooper’s King Kong. The publisher recently completed a 12-issue series, Kong of Skull Island, written by James Asmus (All-New Inhumans) and illustrated by Carlos Magno.

BOOM! Studios has been publishing Planet of the Apes comics since 2011, the longest-running comic book adaptation of the property. The publisher has produced comics based both on the original and current series of films. It is currently publishing War for the Planet of the Apes, a four-issue series by David F. Walker (Luke Cage) and Jonas Scharf (Warlords of Appalachia), set before the Fox film.

Print copies of Kong on the Planet of the Apes #1 will be available for sale in November at local comic book shops (to find a shop near you, visit comicshoplocator.com) or through the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies will also be available from comiXology, Kindle, iTunes, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

Kong on the Planet of the Apes is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to an eclectic group of licensed comic book series and ambitious original series, including Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, WWE, Big Trouble in Little China, Victor LaValle’s Destroyer, Godshaper, Grass Kings, and Klaus.
