Legendary "Hellboy" creator Mike Mignola and acclaimed novelist Christopher Golden present the epic conclusion to the "Baltimore" saga from Dark Horse Comics in 2017

(Nov. 10, 2016)--In 2017, Mike Mignola, the legendary creator of Hellboy and New York Times bestselling novelist Christopher Golden will reunite for the epic conclusion to Baltimore with Baltimore: The Red Kingdom, a five part comic book series from Dark Horse Comics co-written by Mignola and Golden, with art by award winning children’s book illustrator Peter Bergting, colors by Michelle Madsen and stunning covers by Ben Stenbeck (Frankenstein Underground).
In Baltimore: The Red Kingdom, Lord Baltimore is missing. The Red King—evil incarnate—is taking over the world. Baltimore’s team has been driven apart, with some of them dying on the frontlines, while others are in hiding. Since the day he set out for revenge on the vampire who killed his family, Baltimore’s fight has gotten bigger than he’d ever imagined, but what role will he take as evil finally threatens to consume the world?
“Working on Baltimore has been a gift,” said acclaimed co-writer and novelist Christopher Golden. “From the moment Mike Mignola first called to ask if I wanted to write the novel, and through forty-one issues of the comics series, I’ve felt incredibly fortunate to be able to tell this story, to build this world and these characters alongside an extraordinary group of creators.”
“Drawing the final part of Baltimore’s story is such an honour,” said Peter Bergting. “I was thrilled when I was asked to join the title, already a few years ago now but I could never have imagined how I would grow as an artist as well. The feedback from my editors, and working with Mike and Chris, has been a learning experience like no other. It’s really a masterclass in storytelling and now that we are approaching the end I don’t even read the entire script before I start pencilling. I read and draw one page at a time. I’m as big a fan of the series as anyone reading it and I turn the pages in the script dreading what’s to come next for our heroes”.
Baltimore is a grim story about vengeance and duty, but I’ve always seen it as having a dark beauty in so many ways,” continued Golden. “Crafting the story with Mike, honing it with Scott Allie and the editorial team at Dark Horse, and especially working with Ben Stenbeck and Peter Bergting on art, and with Dave Stewart and Michelle Madsen on colors, we’ve been able to show readers the dark beauty of Baltimore the way we see it. We’re hurtling toward the end now and the final arc is going to seriously mess with reader expectations. I can’t wait till this thing hits stores!”
The first issue of Baltimore: The Red Kingdom goes on sale from Dark Horse Comics on February 1, 2017.

NEW SPY SEAL COMIC GOES VIRAL BEFORE BEING SNAPPED UP FOR PUBLICATION
Tommaso’s playful spy seal drawing attracts fans and cosplay instantly
When critically-acclaimed cartoonist Rich Tommaso (SHE WOLF) posted his drawing of a character Spy Seal on Facebook he had no idea it would be met with such immediate fan enthusiasm, Hollywood studio interest, and an ongoing series announcement. Image Comics is pleased to reveal that SPY SEAL by Rich Tommaso is now slated to hit stores in 2017.

“I never thought I'd be drawing and writing something I'd created as a young teen in the late 1980s again in 2016,” said Tommaso. “The climate seems to be ready for some anthropomorphic fun comics again, so if they're game, so am I!”

Penned in a clear-line style reminiscent of something between Hergé's TINTIN and Stan Sakai's USAGI YOJIMBO, the first season of Rich Tommaso's SPY SEAL plunges readers deeply into the exciting and dangerous world of international espionage.

Filled with all manner and species of spies, saboteurs, snipers, assassins, and double agents, our man (er… seal rather), Spy Seal must exceed them all to find out exactly what politically sensitive information lies within the mysterious Corten Steel Phoenix that all of Europe is dying to get their hands on.

SPY SEAL #1 will hit stores in 2017.

BLACK HISTORY IN ITS OWN WORDS HITS STORES THIS FEBRUARY
Just in time to celebrate Black History Month

Image Comics is pleased to announce BLACK HISTORY IN ITS OWN WORDS by Ronald Wimberly (PRINCE OF CATS) which will hit stores this February 2017—just in time to celebrate Black History Month.

A look at Black History framed by those who made it, BLACK HISTORY IN ITS OWN WORDS presents quotes of dozens of black luminaries with portraits & illustrations by Ronald Wimberly. Featuring the memorable words and depictions of Angela Davis, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kanye West, Zadie Smith, Ice Cube, Dave Chappelle, James Baldwin, Spike Lee, and more.

The book has been a long time coming with Wimberly’s mission for the project aimed at shining a light on black people’s stories and their woeful underrepresentation.

“In January 2014, Matt Bors asked me to pick some quotes and illustrate eight of them for the Nib for Black History Month. I chose quotes ranging from the casual to the profound from luminaries both past and present. I had so much fun I did 4 extra (12 in total) and continued to do 12 more the subsequent year. This book collects those first 24 works as well as 14 new works,” said Wimberly.

Wimberly took a unique approach to the project and opted for people based not only on historical precedence but on their punk spirit and existential bravery; people whose words and lives spoke to him personally.

Wimberly added: “I was inspired by the aesthetic discipline of Emory Douglas and Bruno Paul to work in graphic reduction and a limited palette inspired by national colors of the black diaspora. I hope that these images of black luminaries and their words will inspire readers to further research and be emboldened to live life as they have.”

BLACK HISTORY MONTH IN ITS OWN WORDS, 8 x 8 inch trim size hardcover for $16.99 hits stores on Wednesday, February 8th. The final order cutoff for comics retailers is Monday, January 16th.

The new manga series created by Yasuo Ohtagaki delivers an action-packed, character-driven story set in the distant future where the forces of the Earth Federation fight to quell an uprising by the rebellious Principality of Zeon. The preeminent weapons in this struggle are massive robots with human pilots called Mobile Suits.

MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM THUNDERBOLT will be published in print under the VIZ Signature imprint and is rated ‘T+’ for Older Teens. Volume 1 will carry an MSRP of $14.99 U.S. / $19.99 CAN. Future volumes will be published on a quarterly basis.

In the Universal Century year 0079, the space colony known as Side 3 proclaims independence as the Principality of Zeon and declares war on the Earth Federation. One year later, they are locked in a fierce battle for the Thunderbolt Sector, an area of space scarred by the wreckage of destroyed colonies.

As the first volume opens, two veteran Mobile Suit pilots leap into this maelstrom of destruction: the deadly Zeon sniper Daryl Lorenz, and Federation ace Io Fleming. It’s the beginning of a rivalry that can end only when one of them is destroyed. The lightning-streaked debris fields are about to become the stage for an epic duel where death is the only true winner.

The Nerd-becomes-cool-Superhero trope gets flipped on its head in Geek-Girl

Created and written by Sam Johnson (The Almighties, Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman) and illustrated by Carlos Granda (Grimm Fairy Tales, Charmed), in the 4-issue Geek-Girl Mini-Series we meet attractive, popular Maine college coed Ruby Kaye – a girl who is used to getting anything she wants. But when she overhears the resident college brainiac talking about super-tech glasses he's invented and decides she wants them – her whole world gets turned upside down.

When we're introduced to Ruby, she's a girl flying around in a super-hero costume, looking for crime, chatting to her BFF Summer on her cellphone, questioning if she's 'doing it right;' because she's been at this a couple nights now and nothing's happening. And then something does happen. Right in front of Ruby, Neon Girl – Maine's resident big-shot Super-Heroine – is blasted through a billboard by a mysterious new villain.

Ass-kicker Neon Girl is taken off the map – and requiring a life-saving operation - by this extremely powerful, enigmatic woman, Lightning Storm, who seems to have come from nowhere,” says Johnson; “and Neon Girl wants to know what Ruby's going to do about it.”

A scared Ruby reveals how she got the glasses on a whim, how it was her friend Summer who made her a costume and came up with a superhero name for her – and how she doesn't really know what she's doing,” Johnson continues. “But this isn't a point of view the no-nonsense Neon Girl has any time for; her attitude is that 'Geek-Girl' has super powers and sure dresses like a superheroine, so she needs to step up and stop Lightning Storm!” says Johnson.

And while Ms. Kaye's trying to get her head around this, things have taken a hit in her social life; thanks to a glitch in the glasses' programming that's messed with her head and made her super-kultzy, the only evidence she's provided her 'cooler-than-thou' clique of her powers has involved knocking drinks over them – alienating her from all but Summer. Johnson concludes, “So with a social life in tatters and a new status she doesn't really understand, Ruby has to try and take on an extremely dangerous force who's just hospitalised someone who's like a hundred times better at super-heroing than she is. Let's see how that goes...”

BEOWULF: AN ENDURING EPIC
All-new English translation of GarcĂa and RubĂn’s graphic novel coming to hardcover this December

Santiago GarcĂa and David RubĂn team up to put a fresh—and wholly blood-soaked—spin on the violent and savage tale of BEOWULF in a new English translation of the 1,000-year-old myth. It will be collected in a lush, full-color hardcover this December from Image Comics.

The story of Beowulf has inspired an enduring epic poem, become a foundational piece of English literature, and influenced countless great works of fiction in numerous mediums. Now, it’s getting an entirely unique new graphic treatment—packed to the brim with enough brutality and gore to satisfy even the most Viking of sensibilities.

BEOWULF tells of the tale of a Scandinavian hero in lands that would become what is now Denmark and Sweden. A monster, Grendel, has arrived in the kingdom of the Danes, devouring its men and women for 12 years until Beowulf arrives to save them. GarcĂa and RubĂn faithfully follow the original story for a new version that is neither revisionist nor postmodern, capturing the tone and important details of the poem, translating its potent, epic resonance and melancholy into a contemporary comic that isn’t standard swords and sorcery or heroic fantasy fare—but rather an ancient story with a modern perspective that remains respectful of the source material.

BEOWULF HC (ISBN: 978-1-5343-0120-7) hits comic book stores Wednesday, December 14th and bookstores Tuesday, December 20th, and will be available for $29.99. It can be ordered by retailers with Diamond code OCT160654, and is available for preorder on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indiebound, and Indigo.

THE FEW WILL RISE THIS JANUARY
A brand-new limited maxi-series from the writer of SAINTS

Critically lauded writer and playwright Sean Lewis (SAINTS) and red-hot artist Hayden Sherman team up for a brand-new limited dystopian maxi-series, coming this January from Image Comics.

THE FEW combines the action of Mad Max with a Station Eleven sensibility in this sci-fi series for mature readers. In a dystopian future, two survivalist brothers stumble across an unlikely sight: a woman asleep in the woods holding nothing but a gun and a baby wearing a gas mask. Bent on lending her their help, they find that nothing is as it seems: betrayals, secrets, and revelations abound in the fight for what's left of America.

"I couldn't be prouder of this book,” said Lewis. “A strong female lead. Survivalists. Extremists and a recognizable American future. It's a total journey, and Hayden's art is unreal. He's a star in the making."

"This is the kind of story I dream of: strange characters, strange places, strange events, but all grounded in a haunting reality,” said Sherman. “In this book Sean gives just that, and a whole world of characters for me to play with. It's a story well-suited for the times."

THE FEW #1 (Diamond code: NOV160542) hits comic book stores Wednesday, January 18th. Final order cutoff deadline for retailers is Monday, December 19th.

Advance praise for THE FEW:

The Few brings together Cuaron and Carpenter—Children of Men meets Escape from New York with amazing grit and visual sensibility. The best type of dystopian brainchild only comics can offer, in the tradition of Tank Girl and Ezquerra's Dredd.” —Steve Orlando (VIRGIL, Supergirl, Midnighter)

“Loved it! It was really cool, great pacing, interesting storytelling, tight dialogue. A great blend of Mad Max, Lone Wolf and Cub, and Popbot." —Riley Rossmo (RASPUTIN)
