Special edition print to benefit the family of Josh Medors

The creators of the Image Comics series ‘68 are proud to present a limited collector's edition print in memory of the late comics artist Josh Medors. A courageous survivor of a rare form of spinal cancer, Josh outlived his original prognosis by years before finally passing in 2012. The print is an 11"x17" double-sided glossy reproduction of the ‘68: HALLOWED GROUND one-shot cover image by Medors, with a matching back cover illustration by Nat Jones and Jay Fotos. Printed at full production size, this print is limited to only 100 copies, and comes hand-numbered and signed in pencil by ‘68 series founders Mark Kidwell, Nat Jones, and Jay Fotos. It ships in a protective rigid Mylar sleeve and will be available worldwide. To honor their friend and colleague, the ‘68 creators are donating all proceeds from the sale of the print to Medors' wife Charlotte and son Garth.
The ‘68: HALLOWED GROUND benefit print is available for purchase at and costs $40.00.
‘68: HALLOWED GROUND goes on-sale 11/6, and features the story of two soldiers freshly back from Vietnam and forced into a showdown against hordes of zombies while holed up in a church. ‘68: HALLOWED GROUND was one of the last projects Medors worked on before passing away. He provided a cover, layouts, and thumbnails for the book, which were used to create the final one-shot. The issue ships with a cover by Medors (Diamond Code SEP130505) as well as a special cover by Bernie Wrightson (Diamond Code SEP130506).

An Isolated Seaside Town Spirals Into Madness As A Mysterious Infestation Grows

San Francisco, CA, October 17, 2013 – VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), the largest distributor and licensor of anime and manga in North America, has announced the release of the UZUMAKI Deluxe Edition. The new 3-in-1 hardcover version of creator Junji Ito’s inventive horror manga (graphic novel) about the gradual decent into madness of a seaside town overrun with spirals features a new cover design as well as 12 pages of new full-color interior artwork.

The UZUMAKI Deluxe Edition, now available is published under the VIZ Signature imprint, is rated ‘T+’ for Older Teens, and carries an MSRP of $27.99 U.S. / $32.00 CAN.

Kurouzu-cho, a small fogbound town on the coast of Japan, is cursed. According to Shuichi Saito, the withdrawn boyfriend of teenager Kirie Goshima, their town is haunted not by a person or being but by a pattern: uzumaki, the spiral, the hypnotic secret shape of the world. It manifests itself in everything from seashells and whirlpools in water to the spiral marks on people's bodies, the insane obsessions of Shuichi's father and the voice from the cochlea in our inner ear. As the madness spreads, the inhabitants of Kurozu-cho are pulled ever deeper into a whirlpool from which there is no return!

“Junji Ito takes one of the most ubiquitous designs found in nature, the spiral, and uses it as the foundation for a truly terrifying story,” says Masumi Washington, Senior Editorial Director. “This beautiful new hardcover UZUMAKI Deluxe Edition is a wonderful showcase for Ito’s unique, eye-catching art style and also makes a fun and frightening addition to this year’s Halloween season. Readers will never look at the world around them in the same way ever again after reading this masterpiece from one of the most acclaimed creators of horror manga!”

Junji Ito debuted as a horror manga artist in 1987 with the first story in his successful Tomie series. UZUMAKI, drawn from 1998 to 1999, was adapted into a live-action movie, which was also released in America by VIZ Films and Tidepoint Pictures. Junji Ito’s influences include the classic manga artists Kazuo Umezu and Hideshi Hino, as well as authors Yasutaka Tsutsui and H.P. Lovecraft. Ito is also the creator of the celebrated horror manga story, GYO, which is published in North America by VIZ Media.

LETTER 44 #1 Sells Out!

Charles Soule and Alberto Jiménez Alburqurque’s inaugural issue has sold out at the distributor level!

Portland, OR (October 18, 2013) – A new President, freshly inaugurated and faced with an impossible scenario, a spaceship full of American heroes flung far across our solar system, unsure of whom or what will greet them, and a lone structure of unknown origin floating untouched in the vacuum of space.

These are but a few of the elements that have led to the maiden voyage of Charles Soule and Alberto Jiménez Alburqurque’s LETTER 44 #1 to sell out of its initial 22,000 copy print run!

"I am thrilled that so many people are finding and enjoying the first issue of Letter 44!” said Soule. “This is a series that is going to some amazing places–literally–and it's fantastic to have folks along for the ride. Go Space!"

Riding high atop its unique premise and eye-catching art, LETTER 44 #1 premiered in a special black and white variant edition at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, fueling fans’ desire for the series to finally premiere with Guy Major’s vivid colors. Fans and retailers responded thunderously, depleting Diamond Comics Distributors’ stock of the specially priced $1 issue in less than a day.

Letter 44 is a fun and original concept and is this week’s Challengers Choice book,” said Challengers Comics’ Patrick Brower. “Not just because it’s from Oni Press, whom we love, and not just because it’s written by Charles Soule, who is on fire, but also because it is a good book, worth way more than $1.00. As a retailer, this book is a wonderful addition to Challengers’ shelves. As a fan, I cannot wait for issue #2. Thanks, Oni!”

Holding its introductory price of $1, LETTER 44 #1 will be receiving a second printing with a new cover by superstar artist Javier Pulido (Daredevil, Hawkeye), scheduled to hit shelves on November 27th, the same day as LETTER 44 #2!

Celebrated cartoonist brings award-winning series to Image Comics

One of the most celebrated alternative cartoonists of all time, Bob Fingerman, is returning to his roots this January with the return of his comic book series MINIMUM WAGE. The refreshingly honest comic, based loosely on Fingerman’s own life, follows the life of the main character Rob as he stumbles through life in New York City. Praised by critics and celebrities alike, MINIMUM WAGE set the standard for cringe comedy, with fans ranging from Robert Kirkman and Patton Oswalt to Marc Maron and Trey Parker.
Earlier this year, Image Comics released the definitive hardcover collection of the series, MAXIMUM MINIMUM WAGE, which received critical acclaim, including placement on Entertainment Weekly’s Must List and rave reviews from Publisher’s Weekly and The New York Times. With such an overwhelming response to the collection of previously-released issues, Fingerman felt the time was right to return to his definitive series.
"Working on the massive MAXIMUM MINIMUM WAGE, just going through all that material, stoked my desire to return to these characters,” said Fingerman. "I'd deliberately given that chunk an open ending, thinking someday I'd come back and do more. Now seemed the perfect time and Image Comics seemed the perfect place."
Launching in January, 2014, MINIMUM WAGE #1 will pick up the story of Rob three years later, where much has changed in his life. When we last saw him, he was exchanging vows with his girlfriend Sylvia. Now he's single, owns a cell phone, lives with his mother again, and is giving some thought to diving back into dating. What could go wrong?
MAXIMUM MINIMUM WAGE HC is still available at finer bookstores and comic book stores, and available for order (ISBN 1607066742 and Diamond Code JAN130488)
MINIMUM WAGE #1 releases on January 8, 2014 and is available for pre-order now using Diamond Code NOV130413.

Galactic heroes vs. cosmic forces—and their own worst impulses

This January, writer Stuart Moore and artist Gus Storms unveil EGOs #1, a twisted far-future epic. Years ago, The Earth/Galactic Operatives defeated Masse, a sentient, hungry galaxy—but now Masse has returned, consuming entire planets and killing millions of people. Deuce, an aging hero, decides to reform his old team and go into battle to save the day. But in order to do that, he must cross a line with Pixel, his wife and former teammate, an act that threatens to tear apart the life they've built together. EGOs sits at the intersection of a mid-life crisis, a galaxy-spanning threat, and the incredibly creative ideas that make sci-fi tales so compelling.
"There are obviously echoes of other space-based super-teams here, but with darker, HBO-style characterization, and a twist at the end of issue #1 that hopefully comes as a surprise AND sets everything else in motion," says Moore. "I'm really proud of it—I think it's the best thing I've ever done."
Moore has a long history in the comics industry, having written acclaimed runs on Namor, Firestorm: The Nuclear Man, and Wolverine Noir. He has also served as editor on several groundbreaking and classic comics series, including Hellblazer, Preacher, Daredevil, and Transmetropolitan. Storms contributed his fine line and attractive palette to 12 Reasons to Die before joining Moore on EGOs and defining the vibrant, ultra-high-tech look of the series.
Creators throughout the industry have praised EGOs ahead of its release:
"I've known Stuart Moore since his days at Vertigo, and I always thought he was one of the very smartest minds in our industry. I'm delighted that he's writing a new book for my friends at Image, especially because EGOs is his best story yet."
-Brian K. Vaughan (SAGA, The Private Eye)
"Stuart Moore was one of comics' greatest editors precisely because he's a great writer. Everything he writes demands attention."
-Warren Ellis (Transmetropolitan, Planetary)
"With EGOs, Stuart Moore's thoughtful writing style really comes into its own. I look forward to following this one as it develops—very highly recommended."
-Garth Ennis (Preacher, Fury MAX)
EGOs sets up house at the junction of superhero stories and big-ideas sci-fi—then trashes the junction and builds its own huge, insane theme park.”
-Mike Carey (The Unwritten, Lucifer)
A preview of EGOs #1 will be appearing in SAGA #15, in stores on October 30th.
EGOs #1 can be pre-ordered from the November issue of Previews (Diamond Code NOV130415) and will be in stores on January 15.

Supernatural heist comic continues streak of sell-outs with fourth issue

Four sell-outs in a row is no easy feat, but Joshua Williamson and Goran Sudzuka have achieved it with the release of GHOSTED #4, the latest series from Robert Kirkman's Skybound imprint to sell out at the distributor level. Williamson and Sudzuka have crafted a supernatural heist comic that readers simply can't get enough of, and a quadruple sell-out is proof positive of that fact. GHOSTED #4 will be reprinted to meet demand.
The press are very impressed with GHOSTED, as well:
"Ghosted is a horror/caper story that goes beyond its concept to entertain, surprise, and humor you. I never know where it’s going next and that’s what I love about it so much."
Joshua Yehl, IGN
"Williamson continues to craft an intriguing series that is not afraid to take chances and Sudzuka’s art is so perfectly fitting to the book."
Jreemy Matcho, All-Comic
"Joshua Williamson continues to impress me with this series. It takes a steady hand to craft a horror story that not only feels original, but pays homage to what came before it and Ghosted pulls it off beautifully."
Jake Tanner, Following The Nerd
"Sudzuka’s art continues to do a wonderful job of capturing every dark and frightening corner and aspect of the mysterious Trask mansion, making even empty rooms feel as though they could incite fear and panic."
Matt LeMaire, The MacGuffin
The second printing of GHOSTED #4 can be pre-ordered now using Diamond Code SEP138114 and will be in stores on 11/20. GHOSTED #5, the last issue of this story arc, arrives in stores on 11/6 and can be pre-ordered with Diamond Code SEP130621.

“IDW Publishing’s properties have a proven track record and built-in appeal with today’s sophisticated entertainment consumer,” said Ozer.  “Given the Company’s growth and subsequent financial success, investing in the development and production of its projects into television programming is the next logical and strategic step in growing IDW’s media empire, and further solidifies IDW as a key player in both the theatrical and television entertainment arena.”

Circle of Confusion, Executive Producer of the hit AMC series The Walking Dead, will oversee packaging and creative development of the division and will executive produce the company’s projects.  Rick Jacobs will continue to run point on these efforts.
