BLUEWATER PRODUCTIONS GETS GRAPHIC WITH RAY HARRYHAUSEN PRESENTS: THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM

BELLINGHAM, WASH. (NOVEMBER 25, 2008) – The success of Ray Harryhausen Presents; The Pit and the Pendulum, a short stop motion animated film produced by Hand Made Heroes Film & Television has resulted in a comic book deal with Bluewater Productions. When Bluewater President Darren G. Davis and Director Marc Lougee of Hand Made Heroes discovered they were both producing work independently under the Ray Harryhausen Presents banner, Bluewater immediately penned a deal with director Marc Lougee to further develop film & comic book cross-over properties.

Since it’s premiere hosted by Harry Knowles of Ain’t It Cool News at the BNAT Film Festival, The Pit and the Pendulum short film has screened in over 200 film festivals and comic conventions around the world including AFI Dallas and San Diego Comic-Con. Nearly 100,000 visitors logged into the film’s website within two days of the film’s premier in Austin, TX, and has continued to garner a global fan following.

“Seeing the film published as a comic thru a brilliant publisher like Bluewater is the realization of another dream of mine.” said Director, Marc Lougee, “What started as a labor of love, and a once in a lifetime chance to make a film with Ray Harryhausen at the helm, has just continued to expand and reach further than I’d imagined. I’m really excited to have an issue of Ray Harryhausen Presents; The Pit and the Pendulum comic in hand come February 2009.”

Susan Ma, producer on the stop motion adaptation of The Pit and the Pendulum, says the soon to be released comic book is a wonderful extension of the film. “In producing the film, we sought to bring the story to life for a broad audience, while staying as close to the original story as possible. Executive producer Ray Harryhausen was especially keen to see the story develop with a strong visual aesthetic and real storytelling. In bringing the film version into the realm of comic books, I feel we’re accomplishing the goal of making the story very accessible. We’ve been surprised with wonderful feedback from teachers and professors who are thrilled to have a resource like the film to teach Poe’s works in class.”

Director Marc Lougee adds, “ I think between the comic book and the DVD, we’ve got a wonderful package to create interest in great literature thru visual means, starting with E.A. Poe’s The Pit and the Pendulum. Gothic horror, Ray Harryhausen and Edgar Allan Poe- who wouldn’t be thrilled?”

The story in brief: The Pit and the Pendulum. A victim of the Spanish Inquisition is brought before a tribunal. Condemned and alone, he’s left to suffer a fate worse than death as his captors employ fiendish machinations in their efforts to unhinge him.

About The Pit and the Pendulum comic book. Featuring images taken directly from the award-winning animated film and coupled with Poe’s original text, the graphic version of the story in comic book form ratchets up the effect of Poe’s tale of Gothic Horror, creating a spine-tingling experience not to be missed.

The Pit and the Pendulum comic book is scheduled for release in February 2009. The PIT AND THE PENDULUM DVD is available online at www.thepitandthependulumdvd.com

PRESS RELEASE - IMAGE COMICS AND MYSPACE FREE MCFARLANE'S SPAWN RELAUNCH!Image Comics and MySpace release Todd McFarlane and Whilce Portacio's Spawn #185 for free online as #186 sells out!

24 November 2008 (Berkeley, CA) - Image Comics and MySpace have teamed up to release Todd McFarlane and Whilce Portacio's SPAWN relaunch as the second issue sells out at a distribution-level!

“Todd McFarlane Productions is excited to be partnering with Myspace Comics to bring the fans Spawn #185," McFarlane said. "Myspace Comics is the wave of the new generation. Many fans have turned to this form of modern communication. I hope you enjoy looking at a medium that is challenging how things have been traditionally done.”

SPAWN #185 shocked comics fandom with its series-altering death of Al Simmons, lead of the series since its debut in 1992, and the mysterious awakening of the long comatose Patient 47. While the link between Simmons' death and Patient 47 is still unknown this past week's #186 gave the first hints and resulted in yet another immediate sell-out. While limited copies may be available through your local comic book store a new printing will soon be available.

SPAWN #185, a full-color 22-page comic, is available to read on http://www.myspace.com/comicbooks. Copies of SPAWN #185 2ND PTG (SEP088230), a full-color 32-page comic book for $2.95, are still available.

Filmmakers Kyle Higgins and Alec Siegel are proud to announce the completion of The League, a brand new superhero noir from Windy City Pictures and the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. The project, having been mentored by writer/director Tom Mankiewicz (Superman, Diamonds are Forever, Dragnet), was a thesis film for Chapman University .

The League also features artwork by comic book creator Eric Wight (Justice League of America, The Escapist, My Dead Girlfriend).

With the 1946 formation of "The League of Heroes" in Chicago , the country is introduced to the first ever Superhero Labor Union. Founded by The Grey Raven, his kid sidekick Sparrow, and the amazing Blue Blaze, The League of Heroes was a beacon of hope against evil and tyranny in Chicago . Now twenty years later, as The League is about to expand nationally, an old adversary makes a murderous comeback. Drawn by the rampage, the former sidekick Sparrow returns to the city--and The League--for the first time in years.

The film can be viewed FOR FREE in High Definition at:

Hey guys,
Episode 10 of LG15: The Resistance rolled out today, and, as per usual, is available at www.lg15.com, www.youtube.com, www.hulu.com, et al. The last few episodes are doozies, so, if you haven't been watching, get to it. You're breaking Papa Josh's heart.

Also of note (and forgotten by me last week) was the arrival of Firebreather #3 from Image Comics and superstar creators Phil Hester and Andy Kuhn. Now, as if the fact that it's easily one of the best superhero books on the stands wasn't quite enough for you, it has yet another dose of Fleecs and Fialkov fun. I kid you not, Tony Fleecs is going to take this industry by storm one day, and you could say you've been on board since the beginning.

Or just lie about it. Either way. The book should be at your local comic shop, under Image Comics. If it's not, YELL AT THEM TO ORDER IT!

That's all the that that there is. Thanks for reading, and keep the faith.

IDW to Publish New STAR TREK Comic Book Series

Tied to Next Year’s Movie

(San Diego, CA; November 24, 2008) -- IDW Publishing has joined with Paramount Pictures, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, Kurtzman/Orci Productions and CBS Consumer Products to publish a four-issue limited comic book series tied to next summer’s new Star Trek movie, which will be released in theaters on May 8, 2009.

The first comic in the series, Star Trek: Countdown #1, will be released in January 2009 to the comic book direct market. The story is presented by Abrams and plotted by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. It is written by Mike Johnson (Superman/Batman) and Tim Jones, and features stunning art by David Messina (Star Trek: Mirror Images). Messina also provides covers for the series.

“There was a lot of back and forth about doing this project, how to do it, what it would be about, but what all parties agreed on was that we needed the right story and that it needed to matter. It had to count both on its own merits and when read in conjunction with the new movie,” said series editor Andy Schmidt. “I couldn’t be happier with the project and what it means to the overall Star Trek franchise!”

"Star Trek: Countdown lays the groundwork for what happens in the movie," said Roberto Orci. "It's our way of passing the baton from the Next Generation characters and their movies to the new film."

Star Trek: Countdown is sure to be in huge demand as eager fans look for a sneak peak into director J.J. Abrams’ new Star Trek vision!

Star Trek: Countdown #1 (Diamond item code NOV08 4113), a 32-page, $3.99 comic, premieres in January 2009.
