Harvey Awards Dinner Tickets Available!
Brian Michael Bendis to be Keynote Speaker!
Dinner Gift Bag Contents Announced!

BALTIMORE, MD (September 11, 2008) - The Harvey Awards dinner and presentation ceremony, featuring Emcee Kyle Baker and Keynote speaker Brian Michael Bendis, will be held on Saturday, September 27th, at the Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards. Tickets are now available for the event, which will begin at 7:00pm with a cocktail hour, to be followed by dinner and the awards ceremony at 8:00pm .

The Harveys, named after the legendary MAD founding editor and master storyteller Harvey Kurtzman, recognize outstanding achievements in over 20 categories. They are the only industry awards both nominated and selected by the full body of comic book professionals. The Harveys are also very excited to announce Brian Michael Bendis as the keynote speaker for this year's awards ceremony. Brian is one of the most prolific and successful writers working in mainstream comics today. For well over six years, Brian's titles have consistently charted in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic sales rankings. Brian is one of the premiere architects of Marvel Comics' Ultimate Universe, a line of comics created specifically for the new generation of comics readers. Since it's best-selling launch, he has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man to date, and has also written Ultimate Fantastic Four, Ultimate X-men, Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, and Ultimate Six. In addition to scripting the action in the Ultimate Universe, Brian is also responsible for the writing duties on titles such as Secret Invasion, New Avengers, and Mighty Avengers. His creator-owned title, Powers (with series co-creator and artist Mike Oeming), has brought acclaim and accolades as well.
Brian has been nominated for 4 Harvey Awards, for his work on Powers, Daredevil, and New Avengers. He has also won five prestigious Eisner awards, including 'Best Writer of the year' two years in a row.

He is creator of the Jinx line of crime comics published by Image Comics. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out.
"We are thrilled to be hosting the Harvey Awards again this year, " said Marc Nathan, promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. "Award shows are all about having a moment that you will remember. Last year, Kyle Baker was a great MC, Rich Koslowski danced onto stage to present an award, James Jean gave us all a little bit too much information as he won an award, Erik Larsen made us laugh with a single line read, and we were able to see industry legend Joe Kubert honored by HERO Initiative. These are the moments that stood out to me. With Brian added to the event as our keynote speaker, I can't wait to see what happens this year. We hope as many fans as possible will join us."
Guests for dinner and the awards ceremony will enjoy a full banquet-style dinner of filet mignon and Baltimore-style crabcake. For the third year, we are pleased to have Kyle Baker to act as our Master of Ceremonies for the evening. In addition, the 3rd Annual Hero Initiative Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented.

Continuing the very successful promotion from last year, a gift bag will be available to all dinner guests. The first 200 attendees will receive The MAD Archives vol. 1 from DC Comics, Diary of a Wimpy Kid from Amulet Books, an imprint of Harry N. Abrams, Inc., Beowulf Trade Paperback, based on the screenplay by Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary from IDW, Creator Chronicles Preview DVD Featuring Michael Golden from Woodcrest Productions and Eva Ink, Stephen King's Dark Tower : The Gunslinger Born, courtesy of Cards, Comics, and Collectibles & The Baltimore Comic-Con, a Toon Tumbler drinking glass from Popfun merchandising, and an exclusive Harvey Awards keychain from LaserMach.

Harvey Awards tickets are on sale now. Tickets to the event, which includes the full cocktail hour (cash bar), full service dinner, awards ceremony, and gift bag are now available for $90. Tickets are available by calling Cards, Comics & Collectibles in Reisterstown, Maryland at (410) 526-7410. Major Credit Cards will be accepted for payment. Dinner tickets must be purchased by Wednesday, September 24th and will not be available at the door. For those who wish to attend the ceremony only, tickets are available for $10, or free with a two-day pass to the convention. The hall will be opened for those ticket holders at approximately 8:45pm. Attendees who purchase a ceremony-only ticket are not eligible to receive the gift bag. The two-day convention tickets may be purchased through Ticketmaster, accessible from www.baltimorecomiccon.com.

In addition to the Baltimore Comic-Con, named sponsors of the 2008 Harvey Awards include DC Comics, ComiXology.com, Top Shelf Comix, Top Cow Productions, Painted Visions Comics, Cards, and Games, and Brett's Comic Pile. Without these sponsors, the event would not be possible and the Baltimore Comic-Con staff expresses their gratitude. While time is short, there are still sponsorship opportunities available.

'THE ORIGIN OF ZEN' AVAILABLE FOR FREE ONLINE

DDP republishes Zen Intergalactic Ninja's origin story for the first time online at DevilsDue.net, Joe Casey to begin new series in October

Chicago, IL. (September 11, 2008) – In honor of Zen Intergalactic Ninja's return to comics, Devil's Due is proud to present, for the first time since its original printing, the origin of Zen for free online. The story, written by Zen-co creator Steve Stern and illustrated by Tatsuya Ishida, originally appeared in 1993's Zen #0 (published by Entity Comics) and is now available at DevilsDue.net.

21 years after his first appearance, DDP is bringing Zen Intergalactic Ninja back to comics with this October's Zen Intergalactic Ninja #0 99¢ Special. Featuring an all-new storyline by writer Joe Casey (Iron Man: Enter the Mandarin, Gødland) with artist Lee Ferguson (Green Arrow/Black Canary, Halloween: 30 Years of Terror), the series will revive Zen for a new generation of readers. DDP's Zen Intergalactic Ninja will also feature a line of remastered covers by such industry legends as Mike Mignola, Sam Kieth and Jae Lee!

Even as the iconic blue hero enters into a new galaxy of adventure, DDP will also reassemble many of Zen's classic appearances beginning in November's The Best of Zen Intergalactic Ninja vol. 1. Many of these vintage Zen tales have not been seen since their original publication more than a decade ago, and Zen has gone on to be published in more than 3-million comics worldwide.

JOE HILL’S SMASH-HIT LOCKE & KEY SERIES COLLECTED IN HARDCOVER EDITION; NEW SERIES ON THE WAY

(San Diego, CA; September 11, 2008) – When novelist Joe Hill created his first-ever comic book series, Locke & Key, it took fans by surprise. The New York Times best-selling novelist had never created a new series expressly for comics before. But the book arrived to critical acclaim and to sold-out numbers. Further, it was optioned by Dimension Films. Now fans have a chance to experience the first storyline, Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft, in a deluxe hardcover edition.

Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft, featuring the stunning art of Gabriel Rodriguez (Clive Barker’s The Great and Secret Show), is being released on October 1 in a hardback edition that features the first six-issue storyline, a complete cover gallery, conceptual sketches by Rodriguez, and an all-new introduction from best-selling mystery novelist Robert Crais (Chasing Darkness)

Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft tells of the Locke family, who relocate after an unspeakable tragedy to Keyhouse, an unlikely New England mansion, with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them... and home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all...

The Locke & Key story continues next year as well. Hill and Rodriguez pick up where this story leaves off with the next story in the ongoing saga, January’s Locke & Key: Head Games #1.

About creator Joe Hill, who has received the Bram Stoker Award for Best Fiction Collection and Best First Novel, the British Fantasy Award for Best Collection and Best Short Story, and the Sydney J. Bounds Best Newcomer Award, critics were unanimous in the praise:

“In a year of auspicious comics debuts, Joe Hill turned in one of the few comics that truly came from a different place. Written with skill that makes me jealous, courage that makes me smile, and honesty and brutality that makes me want to see what comes next. Okay, I'm officially a fan." – Eisner-winning writer Ed Brubaker

"Locke & Key is a breath of fresh air in the comic book industry. A modern suspense thriller meets something more wondrous and magical.” -- IGN.com

"Hill seems a natural at visual storytelling, not just managing a fabulous flow but also using the very tricks allowed by comics to enhance his overall plot." -- BrokenFrontier.com

"Solid pacing and plot twists, combined with Rodriguez’s clean lines and detail pencils make Locke & Key a lock for best horror book of the week.” -- Wizard Magazine

"Stands apart from the rest of the cookie-cutter comics on display these days." -- Detroit Metro Times

"The team of Hill and Rodriguez is top-notch." -- G4-TV

Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft, a 152-page, $24.99 hardcover, will be available on October 1. Diamond order code JUL08 4052.

IDW’S G.I. JOE LAUNCHES IN JANUARY 2009
WITH THREE-TIERED BATTLE PLAN;

OCTOBER’S G.I. JOE #0 TO REVEAL THREE NEW SERIES

(San Diego, CA; September 08, 2008) – When IDW Publishing announced they had reached a deal with Hasbro to plan a re-launch of the G.I. JOE comic book franchise, they kept their mission plans secret. But now, with the impending release of the kick-off issue, October’s specially priced G.I. JOE #0, it’s time to discuss the plans in detail.

G.I. JOE #0, a $1.00, 24-page comic being released next month, will debut three new series launching in early ’09. The issue contains three stand-alone five-page stories unique to the #0 issue, as well as character sketches and commentary from artist Robert Atkins, previews of upcoming covers, and interviews with the new G.I. JOE creators. The issue features two regular covers, one from Dave Dorman and one from JonBoy Meyers, as well as two special incentive covers from Atkins and a wraparound image by Ben Templesmith.

As to the content of the stories themselves, well, so far, the only news announced to fans has been the return of acclaimed G.I. JOE writer, Larry Hama and the addition of artist Atkins. While Hama is indeed back in the fold, he’s returning as part of a larger action team that will present these three initial comic book series in which G.I. JOE and COBRA are fully revitalized and re-established for a new generation of fans.

The first title to come storming out of the gate in January will be the singularly titled G.I.JOE, written by Chuck Dixon and featuring art by Atkins. This title moves ahead in the timeline from Hama’s series and looks at the fledging G.I. JOE organization as it explores an all-new threat, a shadowy organization that is first introduced to the team in a #0 issue story. Dave Johnson (100 Bullets) will provide covers for the series, as will Atkins. The first issue features a special wraparound variant cover by superstar artist Gabriele Dell’Otto (Secret War).

Larry Hama will be heading up G.I. JOE: ORIGINS, a series that re-envisions the G.I. JOE team for a new generation. Hama will be putting his great strength of blending strong characterization and action storytelling, honed over decades of writing these characters, to effective use in looking at the formations of the G.I. JOE organization and just who the characters on the team really are. Hama will be joined on this series by artist/colorist Tom Feister (Ex Machina). Each issue will come with two regular covers, one by Andrea Di Vito and one by Feister himself. The series launches in February.

Finally, launching in March will be the third round of this initial salvo: G.I. JOE: COBRA, a four-part miniseries written by Christos Gage and Mike Costa, with art by Antonio Fuso, and covers by Howard Chaykin (American Flagg) and Fuso. This series provides a unique look at the new status quo for the primary threat in the G.I. JOE universe. The series views the sinister COBRA organization from a ground-floor view as a familiar G.I. JOE team member seeks to infiltrate Cobra and learn their inner workings.

In addition to these titles, IDW will be launching comics that lead into next summer’s G.I. JOE live-action major motion picture from Paramount Pictures and Hasbro, as well as deluxe reprints of past fan-favorite tales. Details for both these projects will be released soon.

G.I. Joe #0 (item code AUG08 4120, a 24-page, $1 issue, will be available in October. G.I. Joe #1 launches in January 2009; G.I. Joe: Origins #1 debuts in February 2009; and G.I. Joe: Cobra #1 premieres in March 2009.

Greetings:

Matt Maxwell, author of the Strangeways books here. Just wanted to
send off a quick note to let you all know that I've made an official
announcement regarding the second Strangeways book. Strangeways: The
Thirsty is well underway now, and should begin an online serialization
(of one form or another) in the fall sometime, preceding a publication
of the print version in the middle of next year.

Strangeways: The Thirsty is written by myself, with art by Gervasio
and Jok (who did the artwork for "Lone", which was included in Murder
Moon). Luis Guaragna will return as well, providing art for a story
called "Red Hands," which in all likelihood will not get an online
publication. Steve Lieber has signed on to do the cover again.

Head over to the Strangeways weblog to check out the announcement:

http://www.highway-62.com/strangeways

And while you're there, you can check out the animated preview on
YouTube, as well as the first three pages of artwork (not yet
lettered, but the script is provided for folks who want a look behind
the scenes.)

I'll be sure to inform you all of further developments.

Thanks!

A MAMMOTH ON THE FREEWAY AND THE TEAM’S MOST TERRIFYING THREAT YET

-BBC AMERICA’s hit sci-fi series, Primeval, continues with massive adventures-

BBC AMERICA’s new thriller, Primeval, from the creator of Walking With Dinosaurs, is already a monster hit and the raptors haven’t even arrived yet. Since unexplained anomalies began ripping holes in the fabric of time, Professor Nick Cutter (Douglas Henshall) and his team have been facing off against savage creatures of the past in modern day. But now mankind faces its deadliest threat - a creature that’s never before walked the earth. Just as dangerous is the traitor in their midst and the lethal trap set for Cutter and his team. Who is the spy and what does his wife Helen’s (Juliet Aubrey) re-appearance have to do with it?

Primeval Season one finale airs Saturday, September 13, 9:00 p.m. ET/PT and Season two premieres Saturday, September 20, 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.

The adventure continues with anomalies appearing more frequently than ever as raptors rampage a shopping mall, a sabre-tooth tiger attacks a theme park and a mammoth stops traffic on a London freeway. So far, Cutter’s team has managed to come out unscathed, but when battling creatures from another time, how long can that last?

In the season one finale, at the original anomaly site, Special Forces discover an iron fence in ruins with no trace of what caused the damage. Meanwhile, at Abby’s (Hannah Spearritt) zoo, lions have gone missing, leaving behind only a small pool of blood and a large hole in the roof of the cage.

With danger looming, things are just as unsettling at government headquarters, where Claudia (Lucy Brown) is attempting to reassure Lester (Ben Miller) of Cutter’s capabilities. In the lab, the blood analysis taken from the lion pen turns out to be part bat and it’s baffling Connor (Andrew-Lee Potts) and the scientists - until Helen appears to reveal that this isn’t a prehistoric predator, it’s a ferocious beast from the future.

Tracking this highly intelligent animal, the most terrifying adversary yet, pushes the team to its limits. The battle takes Cutter through an anomaly, but he returns to find the world the same except for one difference - a team member no longer exists. Has Cutter’s actions in the past altered the present? Or has he in fact returned to the wrong present? Everyone appears oblivious to Cutter’s concerns. Just as he is coming to terms with the loss, he makes a shocking discovery when a new recruit arrives called Jenny Lewis…
