RADICAL COLLECTS THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED HOTWIRE

September 24th, 2009, Los Angeles – In the near future, the living and the dead share the same space. Known as “Blue Lights,” the non-living are mostly harmless, roaming the streets, hiding from city lights, scuttling in the shadows. But when they begin to appear as ghostly weapons of mass destruction, Metro Police has only one person for the job: Alice Hotwire, Detective Exorcist. Underfunded, undermanned and under investigation, her department is the only thing standing between the city and certain destruction.

Radical Publishing is proud to announce a hardcover edition of Hotwire: Requiem for the Dead, available this November. Written and illustrated by Steve Pugh (Preacher: Saint of Killers) and co-created by legendary writer Warren Ellis (Planetary, Transmetropolitan), Hotwire: Requiem for the Dead tells the story of a detective exorcist who must uncover a supernatural mystery and a new form of ghostly terrorism.

Called “an all around phenomenal book,” by Ain’t It Cool News, and “one of the most entertaining bangs for your buck,” by Newsarama, the hardcover edition of Hotwire: Requiem for the Dead collects all four issues of the critically acclaimed series in a special “director’s cut” edition with additional story pages. Also included in this collection are newly remastered tales from Alice Hotwire’s past, featuring never-before-seen pages and amazing newly painted artwork, as well as newly unearthed, previously unreleased pages written by co-creator Warren Ellis; an extensive gallery showcasing the evolution of the character; a spotlight gallery of artwork from celebrated artists Steve Pugh, Stjepan Sejic (Witchblade), Jelena Djurdjevic (The Immortal Iron Fist) and Garry Leach (Judge Dredd, Marvelman); an in-depth interview with co-creator Steve Pugh as well as a dustjacket showcasing an all new cover by Steve Pugh

Hotwire: Requiem for the Dead hardcover trade will be 128 full color pages for $19.95 and is available to order in the September 2009 Diamond Previews catalog (Diamond order code: SEP090956).

Hey gang,
We're making up for lost time, and have Chapter 4 up and live a scant two weeks after Chapter 3. It's available for purchase on your Kindle for the bargain price of a measly sawbuck.

It's available here: http://www.amazon.com/Tumor-Chapter-4/dp/B002Q1YD3Q/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1253900325&sr=8-5

Plus, if you for some reason are subscribed to this address, yet haven't checked out Tumor either on your Kindle/iPhone or at the website, perhaps our friends over at AICN can convince you otherwise:

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/42460

"This hard edged detective story reminiscent of D.O.A. and MEMENTO is getting better from one chapter to the next. Joshua Hale Fialkov writes a tragic tale of a man who is slowly losing his mind. Diagnosed with an inoperable tumor pressing against his brain, Frank Armstrong’s mind is fragmenting. One second he’s in the present working on a case and the next he’s in the past holding a woman he knows he lost long ago. To make matters worse, there’s a dame (of course there’s a dame) that looks a lot like Frank’s old flame in the middle of this case. Frank is completely confused and losing control of his mind and body, but determined to solve this last case before the tumor in his head overcomes him. In this fourth chapter, we find out that Frank also feels no pain. When he realizes he’s broken his leg (he did so in the last chapter in a daring escape from his hospital room), he looks at it with sort of a fascination, in an “oh what’s this” sort of way rather than
shock. Fialkov is churning out one great mystery yarn, but also an amazing character study. You really feel sympathetic to Frank as he is stumbling along trying to keep things together in his head. Fialkov paces this story perfectly, flipping reality on its ear just when you’re getting invested in the story at play and the scratchy images by Noel Tuazon become more engaging as the chapters whiz by. His depictions of Frank’s worried brow speak volumes. This is a heartbreaking tale that can’t end well, but I’m still rootin’ for Frank to solve the case. TUMOR is available on Amazon Kindle for download. "

So there ya go. Get gettin'.

IDW Presents Sherlock Holmes Volume 1

Illustrated hard cover available in November

San Diego, CA (September 24, 2009) – Just in time for the new blockbuster movie, catch up with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective Sherlock Holmes with IDW Publishing’s new hardcover collection. The Sherlock Holmes collection will present every classic short story and novel in the order Holmes lived it, beautifully accented with all-new, full-color illustrations by celebrated artist Kelley Jones.

“Sherlock Holmes is such an iconic character and there’s a real appeal to him and to Watson even now,” said IDW co-founder and CEO, Ted Adams. “We decided to publish the stories in chronological order and I think both old and new Holmes fans will enjoy it.”

Sherlock Holmes Volume 1 features such classic stories as “The ‘Gloria Sott’,” “The Musgrave Ritual,” A Study in Scarlet, “The Adventure of the Speckled Band,” “The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet,” “The Resident Patient,” and “The Reigate Squires.” Artist Kelley Jones creates insightful illustrations that capture the essence of each story.

Chronologically the first story of Holmes’s life, “The Gloria Scott” begins Sherlock Holmes Volume 1 with a narration of the nascent detective’s first true case. In “The Musgrave Ritual,” another one of the few stories told by Holmes, the detective describes a case that involved the Crown of England. A Study in Scarlet is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s first novel about Holmes, and details Watson’s introduction to Holmes, who follows the detective on two investigations. Holmes and Watson again solve complex murder cases in “The Speckled Band” and “The Resident Patient.” In “The Beryl Coronet,” the duo help avoid a national scandal by deducing the real criminals behind an attempted burglary, while “The Reigate Squires” adds blackmail to the mix.

Sherlock Holmes Volume 1 will be available in stores in November. Diamond order code SEP09 0908.

About The WorryWoos Monsters

The WorryWoo Monsters, a series by Andi Green, was first seen in a New York City art exhibition in 2001. Originally called The Monsters in My Head, Green wanted to create characters with a story that each embodied an emotion. From loneliness to confusion, she began tackling complicated feelings and transformed them into quirky, loveable characters. Her message of "embrace your emotions" received such a positive response she was asked by many if she ever considered turning her single art pieces into storybooks. In 2002 she began to expand her concept, but it wasn't until 2007 that she decided to publish and produce her new collection. The WorryWoos have won multiple awards and can be found in toy stores, specialty gift stores, and museum stores nationwide including the ren owned MOMA gift shop.

ONE MODEL NATION - CONTROVERSIAL POLITICAL BAND'S HISTORIC STORY UNCOVERED IN FIRST CINEMATIC GRAPHIC NOVEL

Donovan Leitch and C. Allbritton Taylor to release One Model Nation's epic story

Los Angeles, CA (September 16, 2009) - One Model Nation (www.onemodelnation.com), the first graphic novel of its kind, will be released by Image Comics (www.imagecomics.com) on October 28, 2009 in book stores nationwide. Writer C. Allbritton Taylor and One Model Nation historian Donovan Leitch, piece together the band's epic journey, revealing the final dark days of the Baader-Meinhof Gang and the band's mysterious disappearance only months later.

In 1977, four young men were the voice of their generation.

In 1978, they disappeared.

Afrodisiac and Street Angel illustrator Jim Rugg brings you a complete view of the political art noise band, One Model Nation.

With Scorsese-esque electricity, One Model Nation captures the arts and politics of an era whose influence can not be measured.

"This is a life's work for me," says C. Allbritton Taylor. "From the Munich Olympics to the heyday of raves, hip hop to state-of-the-art handguns, this era has informed modern culture, fashion, politics, technology, you name it. But this dark time has been a relative German secret which only recently has begun to be revealed, mostly due to the birth of the internet. On a personal level I needed to see this time and place fleshed out into people and events that make sense yet maintain heroic proportions. Donovan spent years researching the multitude of bizarre and overwhelming events in which these people lived their lives and made their noble, everyman decisions. This story needed to be told."

"I have always been fascinated by post-war Germany, the counter-culture revolutionaries and their violent upheaval against the rise of capitalism in a Communist country. The fact that One Model Nation, four musicians who helped to create electronica, was unwittingly pulled into the battle being waged between these two forces makes their story all the more compelling. This is the equivalent to a Syd Barrett German epic," says Donovan Leitch.

UBISOFT and ifc TV ANNOUNCE SHORT FILM COMPETITION INSPIRED BY
ASSASSIN’S CREED® ii VIDEO GAME

Horror Film Director Ti West to Judge the Film Challenge

SAN FRANCISCO, CA and NEW YORK, NY – SEPTEMBER 23, 2009 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, and IFC (The Independent Film Channel), announced the launch of the short film contest “Live by the Creed Challenge,” inspired by the Assassin’s Creed® II video game, due out on November 17, 2009. The contest is part of IFC’s Media Lab (www.ifc.com/media-lab), an independent film studio which supports content development, financing and distribution opportunities for up-and-coming filmmakers.

One grand-prize winner and two second-place winners will be selected. The winning films will air on IFC in November. Film director/writer Ti West (The House of the Devil, October 2009) has signed on to judge the contest.

“This contest challenges aspiring film artists in a really unique way, giving them a great opportunity to develop their individual creative methods and showcase their work to a national audience,” said Ti West. “Challenges like this give filmmakers a rich, creative opportunity to improve their skills.”

Entries will be accepted starting today through November 1. Everyone from filmmakers to video game fans and media arts aficionados are encouraged to submit their short film of six minutes or less at: www.ifc.com/media-lab. Qualifying films must contain at least three of the seven themes that closely tie to the Assassin's Creed II story, location and action. The themes include:
§ Assassin/Assassination
§ Revenge
§ Hidden blade/hidden weapon
§ Italy/Italian Renaissance
§ Unique gadgets/tools
§ Family
§ Conspiracy

Filmmakers may also consider spotlighting additional themes featured in the game, including: money/greed; Leonardo da Vinci; fighting/hand-to-hand combat; and parkour/escape.

Finalists will be selected by a panel of IFC and Ubisoft judges along with film director Ti West and key members of the Assassin’s Creed II development team. The grand prize winner will receive $10,000, a PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Assassin’s Creed II video game. The second-place winners will each receive $2,500, a PlayStation 3 entertainment system and the video game. In addition, the winning short films will air on IFC in November to coincide with the launch of the game.

“Assassin’s Creed II has such a rich story, cinematic look and a new character. We’re excited to see the film entries to see different interpretations, viewpoints and stories while still being true to the themes and context of the Assassin’s Creed II video game,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. “This is our second short film contest with IFC and the Assassin’s Creed brand, and we were really pleased with the results of the first campaign. We are thrilled to partner with them again, and that director Ti West is onboard to be a guest judge along with key members of our Assassin’s Creed II dev team.”

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has captured a strong and passionate following worldwide and the Assassin’s Creed II short film contest is an opportunity for fans and others to delve into the story and themes of what will be one of the biggest games of 2009.

"The success of IFC’s initial partnership with Ubisoft to support the launch of Assassin’s Creed paved the way for us to work together again. IFC’s viewers are huge gaming fans so this is a natural fit for our brand and the network’s Media Lab initiative, which empowers young filmmakers to create innovative work,” stated Lee Sparer, vice president, partnerships, IFC and Sundance Channel. “We are especially thrilled that director Ti West will lend his expertise to this challenge, a great motivator for the next generation of filmmakers.”

Director Ti West is one of the hottest, up-and-coming horror filmmakers on the scene today. His next film, “The House of the Devil,” was picked up by Magnolia Pictures with a planned release on Halloween this year. He has also created and directed the five-episode online series “Dead and Lonely” for IFC.com, debuting in October. The series is a comedic twist on a classic vampire love story set in the modern internet dating age.

THE DREAMER GETS A “WEB-LIFT”

(Cleveland, OH)-- September 22, 2009 -- TheDreamerComic.com, the home of adventure, romance, The Revolutionary War and Lora Innes’s THE DREAMER, recently underwent a facelift that brings the Harvey Award-nominated comic book a new-and-improved look sure to transport anyone back into the elite group, Knowlton’s Rangers.

Included in the facelift are a new and streamlined page viewer with faster load times, new downloads, freebies and interviews, a new store section, and new links---including links to other historical webcomics, blogs and DREAMER-related historical sites.

“There are a lot of new things happening to Beatrice and Alan,” said Innes, referring to the two main characters. “It was only fitting I gave them a new place to act out their stories. I hope fans, new and old, like the new look and features.”

THE DREAMER tells the story of seventeen-year-old Beatrice Whaley, a student who begins having vivid dreams about a brave and handsome soldier named Alan Warren, a member of an elite group known as Knowlton’s Rangers that fought during the Revolutionary War. Prone to keeping her head in the clouds, Bea welcomes her nightly adventures in 1776. But it is not long before Beatrice questions whether her dreams are simply dreams…or something more.

THE DREAMER captures the history of Revolutionary War figures---Captain Nathan Hale, Lt. Col. Thomas Knowlton, General William Howe and Private Frederick Knowlton---with such richness and accuracy you’ll think you’re actually in 1776.

THE DREAMER, an ongoing monthly series, will see its first trade paperback collection, THE DREAMER: THE CONSEQUENCE OF NATHAN HALE, Part 1 (ISBN: 978-1600104657, $19.95) is available now.

HARVEY-NOMINATED AND CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED ONGOING ONI PRESS SERIES, WASTELAND, GETS THE DELUXE HARDCOVER TREATMENT

One hundred years after the Big Wet, Earth has been left a broken, infertile world of rock and sand. The town of Providens is like many others on the post-Big Wet planet--small, mostly illiterate, and struggling for survival. When the town welcomes a stranger named Michael into its midst, will the quiet man lead them to a brave new world or shatter what little order still exists?

“I've been wanting to give Wasteland the hardcover treatment for a while now” said editor in chief James Lucas Jones. “It really is one of the best series out there. It's inventive in its use of the post-apocalyptic concept and frank in the telling of the story. Fans love it as much as we do and it deserves a deluxe edition.”

The first hardcover trade entitled Wasteland: The Apocalyptic Edition, Vol. 1 hits store shelves on September 23rd. Antony Johnston and Christopher Mittens work is collected into 384 pages of content, including the first 13 issues of the series with a full color gallery of Ben Templesmith's gorgeous covers, and the fan-favorite Walking the Dust prose shorts featuring new pinup art by Sam Keith, Brian Hurtt, Robbi Rodriguez, Joelle Jones, and Joe Infurnari. This impressive tome chronicles the opening adventures of Michael, as he struggles to find the answers to both his past and his future.

Fellow writer and Wasteland fan Warren Ellis said, “Wasteland is the best post-apocalyptic comic being published today. And I say that as the author of a post-apocalyptic comic... You want a copy.”

“Wasteland has definitely made its mark as a long running indie comic series.” commented managing editor, Randal Jarrell. “We can't thank the fans enough for all their support over the last couple of years. The deluxe hardcover is as much for them as it is for us.”

When asked about the hardcover edition, writer Antony Johnston commented “I couldn't be more pleased with how it's all turned out. It's hard to believe that we've already made it this far, and there's still a lot of story left to tell." And to the fans, artist Christopher Mitten added, “Thank you, thank you, and thank you again.”

Wasteland: The Apocalyptic Edition, Vol. 1 is on store shelves this Wednesday, September 23rd. It's 384 pages collecting the first 13 issues for $34.99.

While you're in your local comic shop, don't forget to pick up your copy of Wasteland #26, also on shelves September 23rd. This issue kicks off a whole new story arc and is a great jumping-on point for new readers! Six months of chaos and turmoil follows the Sand-Eater battle, as the city struggles to cope with upheaval. Each new issue follows a different character. Wasteland #26: Childhood's End? features Marcus' precocious young charge Yan, as he is sent to work for Artisian Neelan--but discovers a side to life, and perhaps himself, that he never dreamed existed.

This is an eight-week class whose aim is to teach students, in a supportive atmosphere, how to structure and write comics and graphic novel stories of professional caliber. Combining lectures, assignments in class and at home, and roundtable critiquing, the class will cover writing for all kinds of comics, including autobiographical, historical, “indy” and superheroes. [No drawing skill is required for this class.]

DANNY FINGEROTH was the longtime group editor of Marvel's Spider-Man line and the writer of comics including Darkhawk and Deadly Foes of Spider-Man. STORYTELLING FOR COMICS ARTISTS
3 weekly sessions, Wednesdays, Dec. 2, 9, and 16
$150 tuition | $125 for MoCCA members

KLAUS JANSON will lead this information-packed three-session lecture and workshop class that will focus on the theory and mechanics of comics storytelling. The lectures start with the philosophy and responsibility of the storyteller, and proceed through the essential topics of page layout and design, the importance of composition, the need for clarity, the benefits of contrast, the creation of a believable environment, and end with a discussion on the merits of the various styles available to the storyteller. The classes will combine lectures, class and at-home assignments, and on-the-spot critiques. Student participation and questions are encouraged. A rare opportunity to discuss and learn from a master of the art and craft of comics.

After a short stint as assistant to Dick Giordano in the early 1970's, KLAUS JANSON went freelance, working for several comics publishers as writer, penciler, inker and colorist. He's worked on projects with John Romita Jr., Grant Morrison, Frank Miller, Alan Moore, Gil Kane, John Buscema and many more. Klaus's current projects include: inking several Romita Jr. projects at Marvel; penciling a five-part Daredevil limited series written by Brian Michael Bendis and David Mack (to be inked by Bill Sinekiewicz); and penciling and inking a two-part Spider-Man story written by David Morrel. But Klaus is most proud of the course on storytelling that he teaches at The School of Visual Arts and the annual seminars that he holds at Marvel for the editorial staff and their up-and- coming artists.

If you've ever wanted to take your ideas for comics and learn to focus them to create actual stories, then these courses are the perfect place to explore and expand your skills! And wait_ll you see what courses and instructors we have coming up!

IFC.COM PRESENTS

ORIGINAL DARK WEB SERIES

DEAD & LONELY

Premieres on IFC.com Monday, October 26 at [Midnight] ET/PT

IFC Original five episode web series DEAD & LONELY, written, produced and directed by cult indie horror filmmaker Ti West (The Roost, Trigger Man, The House Of The Devil) premieres on IFC.com Monday, October 26 at [Midnight] ET/PT. Each additional episode will air every night that week on IFC.com at [Midnight].

In this series, two lonely Los Angeles singles are brought together via the popular Internet dating website DateOrDie.net. The only problem is...one of them is a vampire.

Starring Justin Rice (Mutual Appreciation, Alexander The Last) and Paige Stark, DEAD & LONELY brings the classic vampire love story to the modern Internet dating age. The series unfolds from both the predator and the victim’s perspective until the characters finally meet. In the vein of Let the Right One In the series focuses on the mundane reality of the day-to-day life of an immortal, while seeking to humanize her to the degree that she seems almost as desperate and lonely as the rest of modern society.
