Image Comics Releases Illustrator's Cover Girls Hardcover Art Book

Berkeley, CA11 November 2011 -- This January, Image Comics will present a handsome collection of some of the best covers, pin-ups, and sequential artwork from promising young Spanish artist Guillem March. March is the creator and much sought-after illustrator behind the pages of Gotham City Sirens and the artist for the new ongoing Catwoman, but he has only just begun!

COVER GIRLS HC will include more than one hundred full-color images never before seen in the United States, plus much unpublished art as well!

"I am a very busy artist," explained March. "The American fans only get to see a fraction of the work I do, so now I'm glad to share some of my favorites with them."

March has built a varied and extensive portfolio of work in Europe, with stunning illustrations published by Diario de Mallorca, Playboy Spain, Eros Magazine, and more. Now Image Comics is ensuring that American fans can experience March's work beyond his current ongoing series with COVER GIRLS HC!

COVER GIRLS HC (NOV110373, ISBN: 978-1-60706-491-6), an 80-page full-color art book for $16.99, will be on sale in stores and on digital platforms on January 4, and is available for order now in the November issue of Previews.

ABOUT GUILLEM MARCH
Guillem March, the artist from Palma de Mallorca, started his career doing contributions for several Spanish manga magazines and eventually won the award for Best Spanish Manga in 1998 at the Ficomic Barcelona Manga Con. He then began a monthly humor page for the best selling Spanish Dolmen Magazine that satirized American superhero comics, which led to him doing cover art for the magazine in a more mainstream American style.

In 2001, Guillem started a 8-year collaboration with Diario de Mallorca, the most important regional daily newspaper of the Balearic Islands. It consisted of a weekly page from serialized stories. Eventually these pages were compiled in the slice of life comic book albums titled Sofia, Ana, Victoria, and Laura, as well as a thriller  called Gray Days. All these have been also published for the Spanish and French market in multiple editions, but have never before been available in the United States. His comics featuring female lead characters caught the attention of Playboy Spain and Eros Comix magazines, who published several of his one-page comics and some cover art. In 2007, he co-created with two colleagues the prozine Tangaroa, a bi-monthly comics magazine that only lasted 2 issues, while he was working for the Belgian publisher Dupuis in collective book called Vampyres.

In 2008, he entered the American mainstream market with DC comics, signing on as an exclusive artist a year later. At DC, he's worked on Batman, Detective Comics, Azrael, Birds of Prey, and cover art for many other titles, though he's best know for his stint in Gotham City Sirens with writer Paul Dini and the brand new ongoing Catwoman series with writer Judd Winick. Max Brooks’ blockbuster novel WORLD WAR Z,
the definitive chronicle of “The Zombie Wars,”
crosses 1 million copy sold threshold

NEW YORK, November 10, 2011 – Max Brooks’ novel, WORLD WAR Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, published by Three Rivers Press, an imprint of the Crown Publishing Group, has now sold more than 1 million copies in print and digital formats combined. The milestone was announced today by Tina Pohlman, VP, Publisher, Trade Paperbacks, Crown Publishing Group.
Paramount Pictures will be releasing the film WORLD WAR Z starring Brad Pitt on December 21, 2012.
Originally published in hardcover in September 2006, WORLD WAR Z has appeared on the hardcover, paperback and mass market New York Times bestseller lists for a combined total of 62 weeks. Brooks’ previous title, THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE, a pop culture classic originally published in 2003, has now sold almost 1.4 million copies.
Brooks, a former writer for Saturday Night Live, said about his bestselling novel: “With this book, I wanted to answer some of the questions I'd already had about a global zombie pandemic; How would our government react? How would other countries’ governments react? And what would ordinary citizens around the world do to survive? For me, zombies are a great way to explore how we, as an entire planet, respond to the threat of extinction.”
Ms. Pohlman added, “We are thrilled to celebrate this million-copy milestone with Max Brooks. His extraordinarily imaginative and exhaustively researched oral history of “The Zombie War” immediately established itself not only as an utterly original new addition to zombie literature but as an exciting new work of mainstream fiction. Its enduring popularity is remarkable, a testament not only to its literary quality but to Max’s tireless dedication to his legions of fans.”
The translation rights to WORLD WAR Z have been sold in 22 countries.

DARK HORSE COMICS TO PUBLISH
CAITLÍN R. KIERNAN’S ALABASTER!

November 9, MILWAUKIE, OR—Caitlín R. Kiernan is the author of numerous works of dark fantasy and science fiction, including nine novels, several comic-book series (including Sandman spinoff The Dreaming), and over two hundred published short stories and novellas. Now, she brings her tales to the land of Dark Horse Comics.
Alabaster is based on Caitlín R. Kiernan’s fan-favorite Dancy Flammarion stories, a dark fantasy series centered around a female teenage protagonist of striking appearance and hidden, terrible depths. For nearly as long as she can remember, seventeen-year-old Dancy Flammarion has fought monsters, cutting a bloody swath through the demons and dark things of the world, aimed like a weapon by a merciless seraph, more taskmaster than guardian.
Part continuation, part reimagining, the series begins with Dancy making and breaking an oath in the name of her seraph, who subsequently abandons her. Injured and alone, Dancy has to find her own way for the first time in her life—and the wolves are closing in.
Alabaster will first appear in Dark Horse Presents #9 (on sale February 22, 2012), followed by the five-issue miniseries Alabaster: Wolves, which throws readers into Dancy’s world with a bang, strips away her seraph, and introduces the two characters who will become her long-term supporting cast. Alabaster: Wolves #1 is on sale April 11, 2012.
Alabaster features artwork by Eisner Award–nominated artist Steve Lieber and cover art by Greg Ruth!
Praise for Caitlín R. Kiernan

COLIN LORIMER’S UXB COMES TO DARK HORSE PRESENTS #10!
November 9, MILWAUKIE, OR—Dark Horse Presents is renowned not only for publishing original work of comics luminaries but also for presenting powerful emerging voices of graphic fiction. Such is UXB by Colin Lorimer (Earp: Saints for Sinners), debuting in Dark Horse Presents #10.
In a shattered future postwar London, powerful experimental “life suits” that permanently graft to human bodies are created to counter the threat of terrorism. Given to three brothers, the suits could make the trio the saviors of mankind—if they can ever get past their obsessions for film, violent video games, and porn. Following in the dark footsteps of dystopian visions such as The Adventures of Luther ArkwrightDMZ, and Give Me Liberty, Lorimer’s UXB is challenging, thought provoking, laced with gallows humor, and illustrated with consummate skill.
“I’m thrilled that UXB has found a home within the hallowed pages of DHP. The journey of UXB is going to be rather dark and twisted and there’s no better place for that story to be told than Dark Horse,” says Colin Lorimer.
While you wait for Dark Horse Presents #10, be sure to check out Colin’s work at UXBComic.com.
Dark Horse Presents #10 is on sale March 21, 2012.

HE STRANGE TALENT OF SELLING OUT CONTINUES
Second Sell Out Issue of Newcomer Series Goes Back to Print at Image Comics

Berkeley, CA8 November 2011 -- Image Comics' grisly high school drama, THE STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE, the new series that combines elements of superhero comics and slasher movies in one fantastically gory comic book, has been getting tons of outstanding reviews and selling more copies than retailers can restock! Like their first issue, writer Justin Jordan, artist Tradd Moore, and colorist Felipe Sobreiro's THE STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE #2 has already sold out at distribution level, prompting the publisher to rush the much sought after second issue back to press right away!

"Selling out one is awesome. Selling out again is... I don't know, double plus awesome?" said Jordan. "It's cool, regardless! Thanks to everyone for supporting the book, and I hope you all enjoy the rest!"

"I can't even express how excited and thankful we all are," added Moore. "This is the kind of reception that everyone dreams of having from their debut series, but to actually have so many people embrace an unknown series from a couple of newcomers has been an amazing experience."

The response has been unanimously enthusiastic, with reviewers such as Joey Esposito at IGN recommending, "If you haven't climbed on board the Luther Strode bandwagon yet, believe the hype. This series is good," and Greg McElhatton at Comic Book Resources describing this debut series as, "...a gory, awesome, nasty, gripping, crazy, fun comic. It's by the kind of new voices that comics needs, an energetic infusion of raw talent."

As the second issue of THE STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE #2 begins, our titular character must now face being suspended from school for putting a bully in the hospital. However, that means Luther can spend his days figuring out his newfound abilities and getting to know Petra, his new girlfriend. Unfortunately, it’s not going to last long with The Librarian killing his way toward Luther and those that he loves!

A second printing of THE STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE #2 (SEP118142), a 32-page full color comic book that will appeal to fans of Kick-Ass and INVINCIBLE, is available for order now and will be back in stores on December 7nd for $2.99, alongside THE STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE #3 (OCT110572). FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Sequart and Respect Films are proud to announce a new documentary film, the first in a new series that will take advantage of new forms of distribution. A Kickstarter campaign has been created to help fund the project.

Comics in Focus: Chris Claremont's X-Men examines one of the most important comic books of the modern age, using new, high-profile interviews to explore both the behind-the-scenes story of the series and its influence.

During his 17 years writing X-Men / Uncanny X-Men, from 1974 to 1991, Chris Claremont took the title from the brink of cancellation to being the best-selling comic of all time, co-creating more iconic characters than any comic book writer since Stan Lee. Over the course of his run, Claremont remained remarkably fluid, changing with the times as writers like Alan Moore and Frank Miller reshaped comics.

While stories like “The Dark Phoenix Saga” remain popular to this day, the impact and legacy of Claremont’s run remains widely unexplored. Today, the “X-books” remain a massive franchise that spans comics, movies, and TV, but for most of the ‘70s and ‘80s, they were one man’s vision. Claremont's work has inspired writers like Joss Whedon and Matt Fraction and redefined the super-team, creating a set of stories that endures decades after original publication.

Comics in Focus: Chris Claremont's X-Men will take an in-depth look at Claremont’s monumental run. It will explore the behind-the-scenes origins of notable characters like Wolverine, Storm, and Phoenix, as well as the challenges of creating art within a corporate system. The film will include new interviews with many of the biggest players involved, including Claremont, Louise Simonson, Ann Nocenti, Art Adams, and Jim Shooter. Particularly notable is a roundtable interview featuring Claremont, Simonson, and Nocenti, together for the first time in 10 years. The film will also include new interviews with contemporary artists inspired by Claremont’s work, including Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron, and Chris Bachalo.

The film will be produced by the same team behind the critically-acclaimed documentaries Grant Morrison: Talking with Gods and Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts. It is directed by Patrick Meaney and produced by a partnership between Sequart Research & Literacy Organization and Respect Films.

If successful, it will be the first in a new series of short-form documentaries offering in-depth looks at significant works that shaped comics history, using interviews with the people who helped shape it. These documentaries will be approximately 45 minutes long and released through direct download and online DVD sales, allowing us to tackle important subjects that don’t fit into the high-profile, feature-length format.

We have turned to Kickstarter to help fund this project. This is your chance to support discussion about the merits of comics and to document the stories of the people who have shaped contemporary pop culture.

Rewards include the documentary as a DVD and a digital download, thanks and other credits in the film, and digital access to extra interview footage not included in the film. They also include books and feature-length films from Sequart's library, including director Meaney's two feature-length comics documentaries, his book Our Sentence is Up: Seeing Grant Morrison's The Invisibles, the upcoming feature film Diagram for Delinquents: Fredric Wertham and the Evolution of Comic Books, the book Mutant Cinema: The X-Men Trilogy from Comics to Screen, and others.
