Swashbucklin' sorcerers! MAGIC™ is back! Brand-new comics and cards enchanting shelves this May! San Diego, CA (March 9, 2012) – What happens when mystery, sorcery, different planes of existence, comic books, and trading card gaming collide? A brand-new Magic: The Gathering® miniseries, of course! Continuing the blockbuster success of the eponymous first series, writer Matt Forbeck and artist Martín Cóccolo bring further adventures of Planeswalker Dack Fayden in Magic: The Gathering: The Spell Thief! "Dack is back!" says series writer Matt Forbeck. "And I'm thrilled that [series artist] Martin Cóccolo and I get to tell more of his story. He's hot on the trail of Sifa Grent, the woman who destroyed his hometown, and it's only a matter of time before the Multiverse's greatest thief tracks her down—if he survives that long." Forbeck laughs. "Poor Dack. He's got a hell of a path ahead of him, one that leads through all sorts of different planes and runs him smack into a Planeswalker or two that fans of the card game should recognize." As spells, swords, and wits clash, an epic new tale unfolds along with a fully playable, alternate-art Magic: The Gathering card only available in each polybagged issue! Your only excuse for missing out on this series is a hatred of adventure! ### | |

LOS ANGELES- March 9, 2012- Profiles in History is proud to announce its association with Marvel Entertainment to hold the Captain America: The First Avenger Auction at this year’s C2E2 (Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo) at McCormick Place, 2301 S. Lake Shore Dr., Chicago, IL 60616 at 6PM Central Time on April 14, 2012.
The auction consists of over 220 lots including the incredible costumes, props and vehicles from the 2011 film. “Rarely does a collector have the opportunity to acquire items of this importance from a contemporary film,” says Profiles in History President and CEO Joe Maddalena.
Among the key items to be sold:
The Captain America hero costume worn in the ultimate incarnation of Captain America. It is a three-piece custom suit made of ballistic nylon with rubberized backing. The three individual costume pieces consist of long pants with elastic boot stirrups, a short, elastic-bottomed, midriff-length undershirt and distinctive red, white and blue sculpted upper body armor with built-in bracers, shoulder pads and patriotic star insignia on the chest. Includes brown leather gloves, ammo belt, holster (with rubber Colt .45 pistol), high brown boots and comes paired with the appropriate form-fitted, leather mask-helmet stenciled with the letter “A” on the front and abstract wings on both sides. The costume exhibits discrete battle distress, and is accompanied by an iconic, round Vibranium shield made of resin. This hero suit is the culmination of all other evolving versions seen on screen and is the hero suit seen in all scenes from the “invasion montage” onward. The suit is also used in most graphic advertising and promotional materials for the film. Pictured above, estimated to fetch $20,000 – $30,000.
Johann Schmidt’s hero Cube setup costume. Worn during the scene when the Cosmic Cube power is first exploited and harnessed in Dr. Zola’s lab. The 2-piece suit is custom made of forest green Polyester with jodhpur-style riding pants and built in suspenders. The jacket features a sewn-in matrix of straps with pops of bright crimson piping, and finished with a Hydra icon patch on the left shoulder. The costume is completed with knee-high patent leather boots, gloves, and black leather belt with Hydra logo buckle. Estimated to fetch $6,000 - $8,000.
Hugo Weaving screen-worn Red Skull prosthetic makeup appliance constructed of red pigmented, encapsulated silicone and consisting of seven individual pieces, pre-painted overlaid and then final makeup applied on actor Hugo Weaving. Also included will be a wide array of Hydra and Allied prop weaponry and equipment, Johann Schmidt/Red Skull costumes, plus several Hydra motorcycles and a full-scale steel-plated Hydra “Fastrac” tank built on a four wheel drive tractor chassis!
Other Marvel Entertainment gems will also be included in the auction, such as, an original full-scale screen-used Mark II “Autopsy” suit from Iron Man 2. This Mark II “Autopsy” suit was appropriated from the military by James “Rhodey” Rhodes, played by Don Cheadle, who proceeded to disassemble it (performing an “autopsy”) for examination of the technology in order to construct War Machine. Constructed by the visionary artists of Legacy Effects, this 75 in. tall figure is handcrafted of fiberglass resin with an incredibly detailed metalized finish resembling brushed stainless steel alloy. It features intricate wire loom, metal hoses and cables, and discrete electronics detailing as well as faux actuators, pistons, and other suspension devices in the exposed joints and limbs. The figure was designed to lie down for the autopsy scene and has a number of armor plates removed to expose the suit’s inner circuitry. The removed sections include two leg greaves, right hip plate, right bicep plate, right shoulder plate, head plate, and most notably a removable main breastplate that reveals the inner cavity and bracing elements. An impressive and iconic figure from this groundbreaking film. This is the only complete Iron Man suit ever offered at public auction. Special shipping arrangements will apply. As MERLIN Season Finale Draws Near,
the Knights of the Round Table Take Center Stage
In a New Episode Airing Friday, March 9, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy,
Sir Elyan Learns a Long-Hidden Secret That May Cost Him His Life
Sir Elyan Learns a Long-Hidden Secret That May Cost Him His Life
Is it the emotional strain of knowing his sister has been banished by the King he protects, or is something even more sinister – and otherworldly – torturing Sir Elyan? It’s a question the other Knights of the Round Table ask themselves in “A Herald of the New Age,” an all-new episode of MERLIN that airs Friday, March 9, at 10 p.m. ET/PT, only on Syfy.
Elyan is bound by duty and honor to serve and protect King Arthur – but after a stunning betrayal of the heart, the King banished Gwen from Camelot, and that has taken a toll on Elyan, played by Adetomiwa Edun.
After returning from a journey through the forest, the Knights discover Elyan is not himself. On their way back to Camelot, they visited aDruid shrine – and unbeknownst to them, a ghostly Druid boy is haunting Elyan … which could have deadly consequences for Arthur.
Elyan and the Knights take center stage in “A Herald of the New Age” – which the jocular actors who play the gallant warriors of Camelot say they welcome, particularly Edun, who joined the cast in the third season after having been a fan of MERLIN.
“I did watch Merlin before – ,” he begins saying during a group interview, before suddenly breaking off his sentence. “Sorry, I’m sorry – I’ve got Eoin Macken (Sir Gwaine) here making the most extraordinary faces.
“Yes, I did watch the whole three seasons,” he continues, laughing. “This series has a really supportive fan base, which is awesome. I think a lot of girls are very jealous of EoinMacken’s hair – I get a lot of questions about what products he uses.”
Edun, Macken, Rupert Young (Sir Leon) and Tom Hopper (Sir Perceval) play the remaining Knights, and they have formed a close-knit bond, both on-screen and off. “What’s genuinely great about working on Merlin is that the actors are all of a really high caliber,” says Dublin-born Macken. “Colin Morgan and Bradley James, in particular are both brilliant, and it’s always great working with them – and, as people, Colin’s Irish, and Irish people are generally great, and Bradley’s British, and that’s cool, too.”
In “A Herald of the New Age,” Elyan engages in a spectacularly physical sword fight with Arthur – and Edun says he enjoyed the opportunity to show off his swordsmanship much more than shooting the episode’s opening scene in the forests of Wales, where many of MERLIN’s exteriors are shot.
“I love all the stuff out in the forest,” he says, “but it can be quite cold – sometimes as low as 10 degrees Celsius – and I’m definitely solar-powered.”
“A Herald of the New Age,” an all-new episode of MERLIN, airs Friday, March 9, at 10 p.m. ET/PT only on Syfy.
THE SABERTOOTH VAMPIRE SINKS HIS TEETH INTO DARK HORSE PRESENTS!
March 7, MILWAUKIE, OR—Dark Horse Comics announces the latest character to be added to its flagship anthology, Dark Horse Presents: the Sabertooth Vampire!
Penned by Mike Russell (SabertoothVampire.com), The Sabertooth Vampire is a webcomic about a tiny vampire hampered by his giant fangs. Will he pull his teeth out of the ground long enough to actually bite someone? Probably not.
“One of the first books that got me into comics in the nineties was the original black-and-white Dark Horse Presents—back when it was serializing stuff like Sin City and The One Trick Rip-Off and Hellboy: The Wolves of Saint August,” said Russell. “So as you can imagine, getting to submit a few strips for DHP was a huge moment for me personally as well as professionally.”
Russell has collected The Sabertooth Vampire in two self-published minicomics: the 28-page Beware the Sabre-Toothed Vampire and the 56-page Sabertooth Vampire Unleashed. The strips frequently contradict themselves as Russell dives into the Sabertooth Vampire’s personal life—his awkward teenage years, his stints as King Arthur and a caveman, his solo dance parties, his run-ins with Abbott and Costello and assorted angry mobs, and his awkward trip around the world after someone mistakes him for a garden gnome.
“Porting my webcomic over to DHP was an awesome experience for three very specific reasons,” said Russell. “One, I got to add color to the strip, with the help of ace cartoonist/colorist/brother-in-arms Bill Mudron. Two, I received some first-class professional editing from Scott Allie and Daniel Chabon. And three, I swung for the fences and asked if I could draw a crossover strip where the Sabertooth Vampire fought one particular world-famous Dark Horse character, and to my delighted surprise, that character’s creator said yes.”
Said Russell, “The Sabertooth Vampire is basically a ‘Road Runner’ riff on a single tragic idea: The dental feature that defines him as a vampire keeps him from being an effective vampire. Also he turns into a really pathetic bat.”
Look for The Sabertooth Vampire in Dark Horse Presents #12 and #14, on sale May 23 and July 18, 2012!
