IDW Publishing To Bring Douglas Adams’
Dirk Gently’s to Comics
The “Thumping Good Detective-Ghost-Horror-Whodunnit-Time Travel-Romantic-Musical-Comedy-Epic” Will Get His Own Comic Series in 2015

San Diego, CA (October 10, 2014) – In partnership with Ideate Media, IDW Publishing is proud to announce that Dirk Gently will be appearing in his first-ever comic-book series in 2015, helping to prove the interconnectedness of all things, the precept by which Dirk Gently, Douglas Adams’ beloved fictional “holistic detective” lives.

Following the recent announcement that Gently will be developed for television by IDW Entertainment and Ideate Media with Circle of Confusion as Executive Producers and Max Landis as showrunner, IDW will also launch an ongoing series of all-new Dirk Gently adventures as comic books.

The series launching in spring 2015, will be written by Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief and creator/writer of series such as Zombies vs Robots, Groom Lake, and The Hollows. The series artist will be Tony Akins (Fables), and Chew co-creator Rob Guillory has contributed a first cover image, too. Full story details and release information will follow soon.

“I know that an American writing Dirk comics is going to get a certain segment of British Adams fans a bit brassed off,” said Ryall, “but, much like in the case of the oft-referenced Schrödinger’s cat in the Dirk novels, we can all agree that until the world opens these comics, they are both good and not good, right? And certainly Adams’ writing transcends all borders and has rightfully earned him a worldwide following. I can’t wait to bring Dirk into the world of comics.”

"Douglas was best known for Hitchhiker, but his real creative passion was always Dirk. Of the two series, this was his secret favourite.  I know he would have smiled upon its re-incarnation as a comic book,” said Ed Victor, Douglas Adams’ longtime agent and friend.

Adams’ Dirk Gently, who appeared in Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Dirk Gently’s Long, Dark Tea-time of the Soul, and the unfinished Dirk Gently fragment that Douglas was writing at the time of his death The Salmon of Doubt, is a charismatic, mysterious, troubled, brilliant, figure—cursed with a relentless intellect, psychic powers he doesn’t fully understand or want, a gift for self-mythologizing, and a supernatural ability to detect disturbances in the fabric of reality. Dirk has found a strange calling as a private detective for impossible crimes, the likes of which will take many forms in the comics.

Follow IDW Publishing on Facebook and Twitter for updates on this title and more. If you’d like to fundamentally interconnect with Chris Ryall on Twitter, he can be found at @chris_ryall.

Spider-Man Swings Into
The Library of American Comics & IDW Publishing
Award-winning Imprint Announces Partnership with Marvel Comics to Collect the Web-Slinger’s Popular Newspaper Strip

San Diego, CA (October 10, 2014) – Adding to IDW Publishing’s ever-growing partnership with Marvel, the publishers announced today at New York Comic Con they will be teaming up to bring the world’s most popular Super-Hero, The Amazing Spider-Man, to IDW’s Library of American Comics (LOAC) imprint.

The wondrous wall-crawler’s long-running newspaper strip by Stan Lee, John Romita, and others will be collected in a series of deluxe new hardcover editions that are sure to leave Super Hero fans and comic-strip collectors equally delighted. Consistent with the other newspaper strip reprints in the Library of American Comics line, each volume in the Spider-Man series will include full-color Sunday pages.

Launched in 1977, the Spider-Man newspaper strip begins with Peter Parker’s arachnid alter-ego facing off against the deadly menace of Doctor Doom! Classic Spidey villains, including Kraven the Hunter, Doctor Octopus, Mysterio, and the Kingpin,  make appearances in pulse-pounding tales drawn by master Spider-artist John Romita Sr. and written by none other than Spider-Man co-creator Stan “The Man” Lee! As the series unfolds, the artistic torch was passed to Larry Lieber (Stan’s younger brother), Paul Ryan, Alex Saviuk, and legendary inker “Joltin’” Joe Sinnott. No matter the artistic interpretation on display, The Amazing Spider-Man comic strip features the kind of fast-paced action and genuine human emotion that has made Peter Parker a star in movies, theatre, TV, video games, and the comic books that started it all back in 1962 with Amazing Fantasy #15.

LOAC’s Spider-Man series is designed by Dean Mullaney and edited by Bruce Canwell, both winners of multiple 2014 Eisner Awards for Genius, Illustrated: The Life and Art of Alex Toth.

“Dean and I both grew up reading the Marvel Comics of the 1960s and ’70s,” said Canwell. “In the third grade, I got sent home at noontime for daring to bring my copy of Spider-Man #53 to school! Lee and Romita wrote and drew that comic book, and it’s great fun bringing their newspaper strip work to a fresh audience. I hope to donate a copy of our first volume to the library at my former grade school!”

The Amazing Spider-Man, Volume 1 goes on sale in early 2015, so plan a visit to your favorite comics shop or bookseller so you can enjoy the special Lee/Romita storytelling magic and learn with Peter Parker once again that, “With great power comes great responsibility”.

About The Library of American Comics
Launched in 2007, The Library of American Comics (LOAC), an imprint of IDW Publishing, has earned multiple industry awards, earned glowing reviews in The New Yorker, Salon.com, Library Journal, The Los Angeles Review of Books, and many other print and electronic publications.
LOAC creative director Dean Mullaney says, "Our objective is to preserve the long and jubilantly creative history of the American newspaper comic strip." The imprint currently publishes a full line of library-quality collections, including The Complete Dick Tracy, Al Capp's Li'l Abner, The Complete Little Orphan Annie, and Russ Manning’s Tarzan, the first volume of which won the 2014 Eisner Award for “Best Comic Strip Collection.”

Snake Eyes Betrays G.I. JOE!
Allegiances Are Questioned In New Miniseries

San Diego, CA (October 9, 2014) – The fan-favorite G.I. JOE ninja is set to strike out on his own in an all-new series, G.I. JOE: Snake Eyes: Agent of COBRA! Debuting in January of 2015, this series builds upon the acclaimed new G.I. JOE series, released last month. With an exciting creative team and a secretive mission, the stakes have never been higher!

Snake Eyes’ shocking return to the world of G.I. JOE will see the long-time hero taking on a new role as a member of COBRA! Breaking DESTRO out of prison is just his first stop on this game-changing mission that will pit Snake Eyes directly against the G.I. JOE team led by Scarlett.

"Snake Eyes has been gone from the pages of IDW's G.I. JOE books for almost two years, so his return alone would make for an incredible story," says series editor Carlos Guzman. "But Mike's idea to have him return on the side of Cobra begs so many exciting questions: What could cause Snake Eyes to join the enemy? How could Cobra convince G.I. JOE's most dangerous warrior to betray his unit? What will G.I. JOE do when they find out the ninja commando has returned… but is now an agent for the villainous organization? There was no doubt that the answers would make this series one of the best G.I. JOE stories ever told!"

Praised for his work on G.I. JOE: The Cobra Files, Mike Costa returns to the world of G.I. JOE, writing this explosive series. Joined by artist Paolo Villanelli, who will provide covers and interior art, the duo will set Snake Eyes against unexpected new dangers.

"SNAKE EYES: AGENT OF COBRA is, without a doubt, the most exciting and action-packed story I've ever written in my six-year history with the G.I. JOE universe,” said Mike Costa. “I wanted to take the dark psychology and intrigue that made G.I. JOE: COBRA so fun to work on, and graft it into the DNA of a big action movie, starring G.I. JOE's most iconic character. It's probably my ultimate G.I. JOE story, and it's really been fun to work on. I'd always tried to approach G.I. JOE: COBRA by asking myself "how could this get worse?" Well, Snake Eyes is working for Cobra. I think I've answered that question"

Find out the secrets of COBRA this January first-hand with Snake Eyes, and be sure to pre-order and reserve a special variant cover by Drew Johnson!

IMAGE COMICS TAKES NYCC BY STORM WITH BIRTHRIGHT, COPPERHEAD & THE FADE OUT
All three issues are being fast-tracked to a second printing

Image Comics took New York by storm today with instant sell-outs of BIRTHRIGHT #1, the eagerly anticipated new Skybound/Image series by Joshua Williamson and Andrei Bressan, as well as the second issues of the hot new series COPPERHEAD by Jay Faerber & Scott Godlewski and THE FADE OUT by Ed Brubaker & Sean Phillips. All three series are being fast-tracked to second printings in order to meet customer demand.

In issue #1 of BIRTHRIGHT, readers meet the Rhodes family, stricken with grief over the disappearance of their young son. But the tragedy of his disappearance could not prepare them for what happened when he returned. Skybound's newest original series is filled with plot twists and turns fantasy into reality with this extra-sized first issue priced at only $2.99.

COPPERHEAD's readership continues to swell as the science-fiction western that Brian K. Vaughan calls his “favorite new comic” continues. In issue #2, Sheriff Clara Bronson and Deputy Boo continue their investigation of a multiple homicide just outside the Copperhead city limits. Meanwhile, Zeke Bronson gets in way over his head in the Badlands.

Bestseller dream-team Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips continue to draw fans of crime noir with the series that critics are calling a masterpiece and their best work yet in THE FADE OUT. Issue #2 picks up the hard-boiled crime mystery where it left off and the questions continue to pile up: Was a murder covered up? Did the movie starlet commit suicide? How will the show go on with a dead leading lady and an unfinished film? The answers will lead readers down a darker and seedier path than expected.

“I'm stunned,” said Brubaker upon hearing of THE FADE OUT’s sellout. “Our numbers went up and we still sold out. It's amazing to see such a fantastic response to such a labor of love from me and Sean and Bettie."

BIRTHRIGHT #1, COPPERHEAD #2, and THE FADE OUT #2 have completely sold out at the distributor level, but may still be available in comic stores. They are currently available digitally on the Image Comics website (imagecomics.com) and the official Image Comics iOS app, as well as on Comixology on the web (comixology.com), iOS, Android, and Google Play.

Image Comics is pleased to announce that all three of these white hot new series will be going back to print to meet customer demand.

BOOM! Studios and Macrocosm Entertainment to Launch Archaia's First Yearlong Series with 'Lantern City'

October 9,  2014 - Los Angeles, CA - Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is pleased to announce they are teaming up with Macrocosm Entertainment to publish Lantern City, a yearlong 12-issue maxi-series from the Archaia imprint that dives headfirst into the Steampunk genre. This will be the first single issue maxi-series published by Archaia since it first started publishing The Secret History in 2007.

Lantern City is a sci-fi saga set in a world that is a dark mirror of our own. Breathtaking, unfamiliar, and terrifying, the walled metropolis of Lantern City is divided by class and geography. Citizens—those who occupy the sordid street-level neighborhoods—tirelessly keep the city going, while the ruling class of the Grey Empire lives high above the populace where they bargain and manipulate for every ounce of power they can muster. Strange science and a criminal network can be found far below the city in the underground, where violence is the only way to negotiate.

Through the chaos of oppression and rebellion, heroes will rise and empires will topple in this sweeping tale of a world where good, evil, romance, and violence combine like a gearbox to highlight the Steampunk genre as never before.

Macrocosm CEO Trevor Crafts remarked, “We couldn’t be more excited to partner with BOOM! Studios and Archaia. Creativity and innovation has always been the cornerstone of their business. At the heart of the Lantern City saga is a simple question: How far would you go to be with the person you love the most? It is what drives every character and every action they take, good or bad, and we are thrilled to explore this new world and these new stories with Archaia and bring Lantern City to fans all over the world.”

“The entire Macrocosm team blew us away with their passion and what they’ve already built with Lantern City,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “This story has the irresistible draw of the Steampunk genre, and it’s big in scope, which makes us want to explore every inch of Lantern City. When you combine that with a powerful story of love and survival you have the makings of an epic tale. This is the biggest story Archaia has done in single issues yet, and we’re thrilled to be working with Macrocosm to bring Lantern City to comics.”

BOOM! Studios and Archaia will announce additional details about this exciting new series later this year.
