Burbank, CA – This December, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the ingenious collaboration between renowned composer Danny Elfman and legendary film director Tim Burton, Warner Bros. Records will release The Danny Elfman & Tim Burton 25th Anniversary Music Box, a very special limited-edition, numbered box set of 1000 that collects expansions of the 13 original scores that Elfman has composed for Burton’s iconic films: a newly produced library of 16 CDs each packaged with artwork by Burton, adding up to more than 19 hours of music. Additionally, the package will contain a bonus DVD of a recent exclusive conversation between Elfman and Burton discussing every film and score in their remarkable quarter century collaboration. The box is available for preorder starting today, October 1st at www.elfmanburton.com.

This elaborate and lovingly designed collectible box set includes the first-time-ever soundtrack release of Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure (1985), as well as scores to the films Beetlejuice (1988), Batman (1989), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Batman Returns (1992), The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), Mars Attacks! (1986), Sleepy Hollow (1999), Planet of the Apes (2001), Big Fish (2003), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Corpse Bride (2005), and Alice in Wonderland (2010). It also includes music from Elfman and Burton’s numerous other collaborations: Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Jar, Amazing Stories: Family Dog, Beetlejuice: The Animated Series, The World of Stainboy, Tim Burton’s Museum of Modern Art Exhibit and Danny Elfman’s unused score to the Edward Scissorhands Ballet.

Additional highlights of The Danny Elfman & Tim Burton 25th Anniversary Music Box include:

* Among the 19 hours of music are seven hours of previously unreleased music including such rarities as additional masters, cut songs, song and score demos, work tapes, orchestra-only song mixes, and foreign-language songs.

* Danse Macabre: 25 Years of Danny Elfman and Tim Burton: A meticulously researched, lavishly illustrated 250+ page fine linen-wrapped hardbound book, entitled with gold foil stamping, and featuring a foreword by Johnny Depp. The book also includes rare photos, stories, and interviews from the cast and crew behind the scenes of this classic music — from the early days of Elfman's band Oingo Boingo to the recent blockbuster film Alice in Wonderland. Interviewed are such collaborators and peers as Guillermo Del Toro, Phillip Glass, Paul Haggis, James Newton Howard, Tom Jones, Michael Keaton, Ang Lee, Errol Morris, Thomas Newman, Catherine O'Hara, Jon Peters, Paul Reubens, David Rockwell, Scott Rudin, Marc Shaiman, Howard Shore, Twyla Tharp, Gus Van Sant, and Richard Zanuck. This comprehensive 10"x10" keepsake book is written by acclaimed film-music journalist Jeff Bond and designed by Grammy Award winning designer Matt Taylor.

* An hour-long exclusive, newly filmed DVD featuring an extended conversation between Burton and Elfman as they reflect on their quarter-century collaboration.

* As a collectible created exclusively for this treasure box of music, a distinctive Skeleton Key USB Flash Drive has been designed—inspired by the art of Tim Burton. A pull of the key unlocks a USB drive loaded with MP3s of the entire contents of this Limited-Edition Music Box. From Pee-wee’s Big Adventure through Alice In Wonderland, it’s all there, including all the bonus tracks, demos, work tapes, and other rarities.

* Newly created liner notes by Elfman discussing each expanded score and their bonus material of additional masters, song and score demos, work tapes, orchestra-only song mixes, and foreign language versions.

* A collection of music as unique as Elfman’s for the films of Tim Burton needed to be housed in something equally special, wondrous, and whimsical. Designed to evoke a treasure chest found in a mysterious attic, The Danny Elfman & Tim Burton 25th Anniversary Music Box is a work of art in itself. Grammy-winning designer Matt Taylor has transformed previously unseen art by Burton and crafted a large scale, tin-covered music box complete with an embedded music chip playing “The Music Box Suite” arranged and performed by Elfman specifically for this historic collection. And to literally top it all off, with a flip of the lid, a delightful working zoetrope is revealed featuring strips of art and photos by Burton and Elfman that come to animated life with a spin.

The Danny Elfman & Tim Burton 25th Anniversary Music Box will be released as a Collectors Limited and Numbered Edition Box of 1,000 copies. The Danny Elfman and Tim Burton 25th Anniversary Music Box is produced by Danny Elfman and Tim Burton and executive produced by Richard Kraft and Laura Engel.

DYNAMIC FACEEATER CARD GAME DEBUTS; ZOMBIES! VAMPIRES! POLITICIANS!

Described as “gin rummy meets ‘Dawn of the Dead’”, FaceEater is a fast-paced, exciting game for 2 to 6 players

Chicago, Illinois, September 30, 2010—Variant Media LLC announced today that it has launched FaceEater, a dynamic new card game full of zombies, vampires, ghosts and a cast of dastardly beasties (including politicians) that sends you down a path of deception, hostility and revenge.

Called “gin rummy meets ‘Dawn of the Dead’” by a writer for the Durango Herald, FaceEater is an easy-to-learn, fast-playing card game for two to six people. Unlike most games, players can play out of turn in FaceEater, “nerve gassing” opponents or “lobotomizing” other players while trying to set down cards before your opponents go out.

The game debuted at Wizard Chicago with a limited run of 2,500 games. Legendary EC Comics creator and former Mad Magazine editor Al Feldstein has endorsed the game, saying: “The Crypt Keeper would go mad to play the putrescent pestilence known as FaceEater’”.

FaceEater was created by comic book dealer and historian Jon McClure 25 years ago, who played it mostly with friends until recently. “I wanted a game that made people laugh while they were shafting their friends,” says McClure. “I wanted players to be able to do things they can’t do in other games. For example, in FaceEater, you can travel into the past to undo an attack by another player. You can also attack or defend even if it’s not your turn. And in addition to creepy characters, I added odd twists, such as the Pug of Doom, the supreme ruler of the universe, because, of course, no one would take the pug as bad guy seriously.

FaceEater can be found at comic book, gaming and horror retailers, or online at www.faceeater.com. Charter stores include One Stop Comics and Challengers Comics in Chicago, Dragon’s Lair in Austin, Texas, and Maria’s Bookshop, Magpie’s Newsstand and The Bookcase in Durango, Colorado.

McClure is recognized for his discovery of the variant comic book, which led to a 30-page article in the 2010 edition of the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide categorizing the now-burgeoning variant market. He also produced a film called “FaceEater”, which is available on DVD.

McClure drew the artwork for some 208 cards; the style is an homage to the great EC horror comics of the 1950s and the DC and Marvel horror comics of the 70s.

For more information on FaceEater, or to order the game, go to www.faceeater.com. Friend FaceEater the Game on Facebook.

About Variant Media

McClure teamed up with long-time comic book fan John Harris, principal of a5, a brand consultancy in Chicago, to bring FaceEater to life. Together, they formed Variant Media LLC, which is based in Chicago, to launch FaceEater. “Life is meaningless nightmare of suffering,” says McClure. “Why not share?”

SIXTH GUN ADDS ONE TO THE POSSE AND TAKES AIM AT THE COMICS RECESSION

After reports of lower than average comic sales last August and reading of the blame being placed on the $3.99 price point, THE SIXTH GUN series creators Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt came to a decision: twelve extra pages at no additional cost. For the sixth issue of their new ongoing series THE SIXTH GUN, Bunn & Hurtt are adding twelve full pages of gun-slinging goodness, and they're enlisting the help of comic superstar colorist Bill Crabtree (INVINCIBLE, JACK STAFF).

“Having a colorist as accomplished as Bill [Crabtree] join the book was a no-brainer,” commented series writer and co-creator Cullen Bunn. “Initially we were going to have Bill start with issue #7, it's the beginning of a new arc and it just made sense, but Brian [Hurtt] had been plugging away at issue #6, and we started having the dreaded conversations of what to cut in order to keep the book's page-count down. When we saw the August numbers and read the reports, it just occurred to us: Why should we sacrifice the culmination of this great story and all our hard work? The fans have been waiting for the climatic final battle; let's give it to them!”

“I've penciled, inked, colored and lettered every issue and we've never missed a ship date on THE SIXTH GUN,” added series artist and co-creator Brian Hurtt. “but adding an additional twelve pages of story to a twenty-two page book for the final issue in this story arc is no small feat, and after six months of hard work, we're not about to start missing deadlines now! We told Bill our idea for an oversized issue #6 and asked if he'd start in on THE SIXTH GUN early.”

“I couldn't wait to get started,” said new series colorist Bill Crabtree. “I love THE SIXTH GUN! Getting to play in this universe with these characters and settings is a real pleasure. Cullen, Brian, and the folks at Oni are so passionate about the book. I'm really excited about the new arc and the oversized finale in issue #6.”

The 40-page oversized issue, THE SIXTH GUN #6, is on store shelves November 17th. You can place your order now with your favorite local comic shop using Diamond Order Code: SEP101089. THE SIXTH GUN #6 wraps up the first epic story arc of the series: General Hume is at the gates of the Maw and he’s brought Hell with him! It’s the final showdown between the forces of good and evil, and no one is safe. If Drake survives the undead battalion… if he defeats Hume’s malevolent henchmen… he’s still gazing down the barrel of a shoot-out with the Confederate general not even death could stop!

THE SIXTH GUN is a new ongoing series from co-creators Cullen Bunn & Brian Hurtt. During the darkest days of the Civil War, wicked cutthroats came into possession of six pistols of otherworldly power. In time, the Sixth Gun, the most dangerous of the weapons, vanished. When the gun surfaces in the hands of an innocent girl, dark forces reawaken. Vile men thought long dead set their sights on retrieving the gun and killing the girl. Only Drake Sinclair, a gunfighter with a shadowy past, stands in their way.
THE DEVIL YOU KNOW
Image Comics presents the perfect holiday gift this December with THE ART OF TODD McFARLANE

Berkeley, CA - 30 September 2010 - When you're writing your holiday wish list, don't forget to include THE ART OF TODD McFARLANE: THE DEVIL'S IN THE DETAILS -- Todd McFarlane's first-ever art book!

This oversized hardcover showcases for the first time Todd McFarlane's unique art style, which forever changed the landscape of comic book art when he burst onto the scene in the 1980s. THE ART OF TODD McFARLANE features art from original comic art boards; rare, never-before-seen sketches; and images from McFarlane's work on Batman, Spider-Man and the Hulk (amongst many others), as well as McFarlane's own top-selling creation, SPAWN. The book also includes selected commentary by the artist himself.

"This book is 20 years in the making and follows my decades of trying to learn this craft of drawing and comics," relates McFarlane. "I'm hoping this book will be an inspiration to young artists, not so much from my advanced pages, but from the raw, undeveloped drawing I entered the industry with. It took me quite a few years to go from adequate to someone who wasn't afraid of where the next job would come from. I'm hoping this art book shows the evolution of my style, and will be a positive message to those that have aspirations to be in this industry. I also hope it will be entertaining to those who have followed my career, seeing that I didn't come out of the shoot fully formed artistically."

THE ART OF TODD McFARLANE: THE DEVIL'S IN THE DETAILS, a 300-page full-color oversized hardcover for $64.99 (OCT100465), will be in stores December 1, 2010. The regular edition will be limited to 5,000 copies while the signed and numbered edition, which retails for $100 (OCT100466), will be limited to only 300 copies. Don't miss your chance to get the perfect gift, whether for a loved one or for yourself!

THE NEXT GOLDEN AGE
Image Comics continues the NEXT ISSUE PROJECT with CRACK COMICS #63

Berkeley, CA - 30 September 2010 - In December, another Golden Age classic will get its next issue with the NEXT ISSUE PROJECT: CRACK COMICS #63.

The NEXT ISSUE PROJECT: CRACK COMICS #63 picks up where Quality Comics' CRACK COMICS #62 left off in 1949, with all-new stories by modern day creators. The all-star line up includes ALAN WEISS (Captain America, Amazing Spider-Man, Tom Strong), ERIK LARSEN (SAVAGE DRAGON, Amazing Spider-Man), HERB TRIMPE (The Incredible Hulk, BPRD: The War on Frogs), PAUL MAYBURY (POPGUN, COMIC BOOK TATTOO), TERRY AUSTIN (Uncanny X-Men, Superman Adventures, Green Lantern), ADAM McGOVERN (Dr. Id), PAOLO LEANDRI (Dr. Id) & CHRIS BURNHAM (OFFICER DOWNE, ELEPHANTMEN). Weiss provided the cover, and MIKE ALLRED (MADMAN) contributed a gorgeous variant cover.

"The NEXT ISSUE PROJECT is for any fan of comics, not just fans of Golden Age books," says editor Erik Larsen. "Often, the promise of Golden Age comics -- where creators were making up the rules as they went along and were blazing new trails -- was more exciting than the reality of Golden Age comics, where creators were essentially mimicking some of the same dull formulaic writing found in other mediums at the time. Everyone who contributed to CRACK COMICS #63 was intent on fulfilling the promise of the Golden Age and delivering a book that was more than a mere homage, but also a thrilling glimpse of what comics could be -- if only creators were allowed to run wild with the characters they were handed! These creative dynamos jumped at the chance to present their own take on these Golden Age heroes and demonstrate comics' true potential!"

NEXT ISSUE PROJECT: CRACK COMICS #63: Captain Triumph! The Clock! Spitfire! Molly the Model! Alias the Spider! Space Legion! SND GROUPE M6 AND RADAR FILMS BEGIN PRODUCTION ON

PASCAL LAUGIER’S ‘THE TALL MAN’

Mystery Thriller with Jessica Biel to Shoot for Eight Weeks in Canada

Los Angeles, September 21, 2010 - Principal photography has begun on THE TALL MAN, a mystery thriller written and directed by acclaimed French director Pascal Laugier (Martyrs, Saint Ange) and starring Jessica Biel (The A-Team, Valentine’s Day) in a leading role. A suspenseful thriller in the vein of M. Night Shyamalan’s earlier films, THE TALL MAN marks Laugier’s English language debut.

Produced by SND, Radar Films’ Clement Miserez (Faces in the Crowd) and Minds Eye Entertainment’s Kevin DeWalt (Faces in the Crowd), the film will shoot for eight weeks in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada. The final wrap is set for November 18th

“We are thrilled to be producers on this project and we are really looking forward to bringing this mystery to audiences worldwide,” said SND CEO Thierry Desmichelle. “Jessica Biel is a very gifted and versatile actor. Coupled with Pascal’s gripping script and innovative filmmaking, it’s the perfect recipe for quite a compelling story.”

Set in the town of Cold Rock, THE TALL MAN is a story of the haunting secrets that hide behind closed doors. With children gone missing over the years leaving neither a clue nor a witness, superstitious locals talk of ‘The Tall Man,’ a legendary, mysterious dark figure who takes children away never to be seen again. When a woman’s son is taken, the chase is on and with it the quest for answers: who is the Tall Man and what happens to the children?

Stephen McHattie, William B. Davis, Samantha Ferris and Jodelle Ferland, round up the cast. SND is handling international sales and will release the film in France.

Conceived as a ‘woman in jeopardy’ movie – an outdoor ‘Panic Room,’ by Laugier, THE TALL MAN is clothed in the myths of bogeymen and monsters born of the folklore common to all cultures. “It’s a story with a strong female character, a character you feel connected to,” said Laugier.

“We really believe in the story and all the talent involved in this project. Jessica Biel’s sensitivity and diverse performances are a perfect fit for the role,”adds Miserez.

Laugier’s next projects include the remake of his award-winning Martyrs (Grand Prize Winner European Fantasy Films in Gold and Silver, Sitges-Catalonian International Film Festival) to be released in the US by 20th Century Fox. Biel’s upcoming roles include Vivaldi with Ben Kingsley and Nailed with Jack Gyllenhaal and directed by David O. Russell.
