Gears of War Returns To Comics This January
The Coalition® and IDW Publishing partner to bring
the action-packed video game series back to comics

San Diego, CA (July 21, 2017) – Following last year’s launch of the critically-acclaimed Gears of War 4, the fan-favorite Gears of War franchise is marking its return to graphic novels in 2018.  Set on the fictional planet of Sera, the Gears of War series charts the story of humanity’s struggle against fearsome and brutal adversaries through a captivating tale of hope, comradery, and survival.

“We are thrilled to be working with IDW Publishing to expand the Gears of War universe through comics," says Rod Fergusson, Studio Head at The Coalition, developers of the Gears of War franchise. "The rich world and characters that millions of gamers have come to cherish is in very capable hands."

Partnering with The Coalition, IDW Publishing has enlisted the talents of writer Kurtis Wiebe (Rat Queens) to tell new stories inspired by the world-famous games.

"I'm thrilled to be part of this new adaptation with IDW,” said Wiebe. “With the release of Gears of War 4, fans experienced all the classic callbacks to the brutal, over-the-top action and tone they were used to but there was a new dynamic created with the younger generation of heroes in JD, Kait, and Del. That's the same experience I want for the comic readers. Something that feels familiar but fresh through new, as-of-yet unexplored regions and stories of the Gears of War universe."

In addition to the news series, IDW Publishing will also re-release the classic Gears of War comics catalog, previously published by WildStorm, allowing fans to revisit and collect the series or discover them for the first time.

Your rendezvous with death kicks off in January 2018 when Gears of War #1 emerges onto the comic book landscape.

Black Crown - The Ruling Class

Tini Howard, Gilbert Hernadez, and more have taken over
some prime real estate in Shelly Bond’s new curated IDW imprint.

San Diego, CA (July 21, 2017) – Situated at the cross street of Great Yarn and Canon, the Black Crown Pub anchors a peculiar street where characters commingle and corrupt.  As previously announced, notorious editor Shelly Bond has opened up shop at IDW Publishing and is hurtling towards the launch of her creator-owned imprint, Black Crown. Peter Milligan (BritanniaShade, the Changing Man) and Tess Fowler (Rat Queens), whose KID LOBOTOMY will be Black Crown’s debut title in October, now welcome some rambunctious new residents to the neighborhood.

Come December, writer Tini Howard (The Skeptics) and Gilbert Hernandez (Love and Rockets) will combine their talents on a 6-issue miniseries with more attitude than you can shake a sword or a game controller at in ASSASSINISTAS. Octavia is an ex-hitwoman who comes out of retirement to pay for her son's college tuition -- and, with any luck, rescue the kidnapped child of one of her former bounty-hunting partners. Octavia recruits her reluctant son Dominic and his boyfriend Taylor to become the next generation of ASSASSINISTAS.

Then in January, the British invasion is back in full force with PUNKS NOT DEAD, co-created by novelist David Barnett (Calling Major Tom, Gideon Smith series) and artist Martin Simmonds (Death Sentence). Fergie is a lonely, bullied teenager raised by a single mom who unexpectedly finds himself in search of the dad he never knew.  But Fergie won’t be traveling alone.  For some reason a strange branch of MI5 is hot on Fergie's trail. Could it be the ghost of Sex Pistol Sid Vicious who becomes Fergie's ethereal companion and unlikely father figure? Bound to Fergie for reasons unknown, is Sid in search of redemption himself or out to prove that punk is alive and well 40 years later?

Right on the heels of KID LOBOTOMY is the BLACK CROWN QUARTERLY, a 48-page compendium of all things comics, culture, and cool. It features a wraparound cover and a regular 10-page lead story set in the Black Crown Pub by Rob Davis (The Motherless Oven). Other features include a two-sided pull-out poster with a view of the street and Frank Quitely's KID LOBOTOMY #1 B-cover, music connections via CUD: Rich and Strange and Swell Maps, Canonball Comics, an exquisite corpse, and much more.

For those attending Comic-Con International in San Diego, you can swing by the IDW Publishing booth #2743 and pick up the Black Crown preview book now, a Black Crown enamel pin, or a Black Crown button.

Jem and the Holograms Step Into a
New Comic Book Dimension

The Most Outrageous Band in the Universe hit the road
this November with an Anthology Series

San Diego (July 21, 2017)— Hasbro’s Jem and the Holograms may be currently out touring with the “Infinite” crossover mini-series, but they’re already plotting their next move with the just-announced Jem and the Holograms: Dimensions.

This new series, from IDW Publishing, will be an anthology comic set in Jem’s world, and will bring in a rotating roster of talent into the mix, as well as some Jem mainstays, to tell new adventures, with two self-contained stories per issue.

The debut issue sees writer Kate Leth (Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat!) and artist Tana Ford (Silk) jamming on a Dungeons and Dragons game night where Jerrica plays the role of Dungeon Master and even Synergy joins the fun! Just as exciting, Sophie Campbell returns to the world of Jem, writing and illustrating a story about the Misfits on a ski trip gone south when Pizzazz’s cat is on the loose!

Sarah Gaydos, IDW Group Editor says, “Sophie, along with series regular writer Kelly Thompson, took the classic Jem and the Holograms concept, and reimagined it for a new generation of Jem fans. Now, with Dimensions, the floodgates have been opened for creators new to Jem to come play in Kelly and Sophie’s arena for an all-star jam session.”

Jem fans can rest assured that Thompson won’t be going far, though, and can anticipate her return to the series before you can say “Showtime, Synergy!”

Issue one kicks off in November with main cover art by Tana Ford and variant covers by Jem art team founding members Sophie Campbell and M. Victoria Robado, plus Eisner-nominee Derek Charm (Star Wars Adventures)!

Alan Moore & Kevin O'Neill present
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Volume IV:
THE TEMPEST

Six-issue miniseries will serve as "swan song" not only to award-winning LEAGUE series but also to creators' careers
San Diego, CA (July 20, 2017) – After an epic seventeen-year journey through the entirety of human culture – the biggest cross-continuity ‘universe’ that is conceivable – Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill will conclude both their legendary League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and their equally legendary comic-book careers with the series’ spectacular fourth and final volume, The Tempest.
Tying up the slenderest of plot threads and allusions from the three preceding volumes, The Black Dossier, and the Nemo trilogy into a dazzling and ingenious bow, the world’s most accomplished and bad-tempered artist-writer team will use their most stylistically adventurous outing yet to display the glories of the medium they are leaving; to demonstrate the excitement that attracted them to the field in the first place; and to analyse, critically and entertainingly, the reasons for their departure.
Opening simultaneously in the panic-stricken headquarters of British Military Intelligence, the fabled Ayesha’s lost African city of Kor and the domed citadel of ‘We’ on the devastated Earth of the year 2996, the dense and yet furiously-paced narrative hurtles like an express locomotive across the fictional globe from Lincoln Island to modern America to the Blazing World; from the Jacobean antiquity of Prospero’s Men to the superhero-inundated pastures of the present to the unimaginable reaches of a shimmering science-fiction future. With a cast-list that includes many of the most iconic figures from literature and pop culture, and a tempo that conveys the terrible momentum of inevitable events, this is literally and literarily the story to end all stories.
Commencing as a six-issue run of unfashionable, outmoded and flimsy children’s comics that will make you appear emotionally backward if you read them on the bus, this climactic magnum opus will also reprint classic English super-team publication The Seven Stars from the murky black-and-white reaches of 1964. A magnificent celebration of everything comics were, are and could be, any appreciator or student of the medium would be unwise to miss The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Volume IV: THE TEMPEST.
-- a 6-issue mini-series, each issue 32 pages in (mostly) full color, saddle stitched, 6 5/8” x 10 1/8” (standard comic-book size), $4.99 (US). Issue #1 is scheduled for June 2018.
Co-Published by Top Shelf Productions (US) and Knockabout (UK).

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters
Comic Book Crossover Sequel Coming

The Pop Culture Juggernauts Re-team for a 5-Week Crossover Series This November
San Diego (July 20, 2017) — This November, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Ghostbusters reunite for an inter-dimensional comic book adventure (and probably a large pizza!) in the upcoming weekly crossover event series from IDW Publishing.

Our story begins when an old adversary traps the Turtles in a ghost dimension, as old adversaries are wont to do. However, all hope is not lost for our Heroes in Half-Shell, as New York City’s resident experts on all things spooky quickly answer the call.

The dream writing team of Erik Burnham (Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe) and Tom Waltz (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, editor for Ghostbusters) are back to tackle scripting duties and will be joined by lead Ghostbusters artist Dan Schoening, whose animated art style has come to define the look of the Ghostbusters comics. An array of multi-talented artists with Turtles credentials are also getting in on the mass hysteria including Pablo Tunica (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe), Tadd Galusha (TMNT: Bebop & Rocksteady Destroy Everything), Mark Torres (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and C.P. Wilson III (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters).

“When Erik and I first broached the idea of joining the TMNT with the Ghostbusters way back when, it felt like a wonderfully impossible dream,” said co-writer Tom Waltz.  “Well, that dream came true with the first volume in a big way, and now I’m absolutely ecstatic to have the opportunity to once again help bring my two favorite quartets together for another massive comic book crossover event! And, like the first go-around, the events in this story directly flow out of and affect the storylines in both ongoing series.”

“I had such a blast working on the first crossover with Tom, and in the years since, we've talked about what we might do if we ever got a crack at a sequel,” said co-writer Erik Burnham. “When the opportunity came up, we didn't even use a single one of those plans! Instead, we grabbed villains from both universes and mixed them together to form the foundation of a fun story that furthers the ongoing stories of both the Turtles and the Ghostbusters. Even better, we get some more one-on-one scenes, allowing their complementary personalities to shine and we're beyond excited to share!”

When last the Turtles and the original ‘Busters crossed streams in 2014, the Turtles got stuck in the Ghostbusters dimension… along with a brand-new, all-powerful, all-crazy ghost from centuries past! It was met with enthusiasm from both fans and critics with IGN declaring the mash-up of proton packs and ninjutsu “hugely entertaining.”

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters 2 #1 hits stores Wednesday, November 1, 2017. Let the ectoplasm fly, dude!

Ghostbusters “Answer the Call” Crew to Star
in New Comic Series

Ghostbuster Veterans Kelly Thompson and Corin Howell Team up for
More Paranormal Adventures From IDW Publishing This October

San Diego, CA (July 19, 2017) — Fire up your proton pack—the Ghostbusters universe is set to expand with Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, a five-issue comic book series launching in October 2017.

The members of the Ghostbusters team from Sony’s 2016 feature film were first introduced to IDW’s long-running Ghostbusters comic books line with Ghostbusters 101, in which they joined forces with the original Ghostbusters for an inter-dimensional crossover adventure. Their highly publicized comic book debut sold out upon release, and now the proton pack-wielding women are back. No longer content to share the spotlight, they are busting out into their very own comic series!

The creative forces behind this series are writer Kelly Thompson (Hawkeye, Ghostbusters: Deviations) and artist Corin Howell (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Ghostbusters: International) both of whom have confronted the paranormal and lived to tell the tale, each having played in the Ghostbusters comics sandbox previously. Their rendition of the new generation of ‘busters is the next exciting addition to the ever-expanding Ghostbusters shared universe, and will serve as the perfect jumping-on point for Ghostbusters fans—old and new alike—combining the spirit of the original franchise with the spunk of the 2016 film.

“After the phenomenal success of teaming the 2016 Ghostbusters with the original Ghostbusters in our dimension-hopping Ghostbusters 101 series, we are very excited to bring fans all new Ghostbusters: Answer the Call adventures,” said Editor Tom Waltz.  “If Ghostbusters 101 proved anything, it’s that ‘busting feels good in any dimension, and we at IDW are honored to join Sony and Ghost Corps in continuing to expand the ever-popular Ghostbusters shared universe.”

In the exciting series debut, “What Dreams May Come, Part 1!,” while on a routine house call to dispose of a simple Class III spook, Abby, Patty, Erin, and Holtzmann encounter a truly terrifying Class VII that appears to be feeding on fear. Able to create illusions that prey on their greatest fears and with designs on turning the world into its own nightmare dimension (‘natch!), our ladies may have finally met their match!

Fans in need of a healthy dose of ectoplasm can look for Ghostbusters: Answer the Call #1 in stores October 2017. Corin Howell will draw the main cover, with Elsa Charretier (Love is Love) and Valentina Pinto (Strawberry Shortcake) providing the variant covers.

MILLAR REVEALS KINGSMAN: THE RED DIAMOND #1 VARIANTS BY QUITELY

PORTLAND, OR, 07/18/2017 — Mark Millar (KICK-ASS, REBORN, JUPITER'S LEGACY) unveils previously unseen KINGSMAN: THE RED DIAMOND #1 variants by superstar artist Frank Quitely (All-Star Superman, Batman & Robin).

Frank Quitely’s variants join covers by original Kingsman creator Dave Gibbons (Watchmen), Simon Fraser, and Rob Doyle to launch new series KINGSMAN: THE RED DIAMOND from Image Comics on Wednesday, September 6th—just in time for this summer’s biggest blockbuster, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, to hit cinemas.

The new series sees brand-new creative team Rob Williams (Suicide Squad) and British superstar Simon Fraser take the helm for an international spy adventure, one that kicks off where James Bond draws the line.

Hero Eggsy is still not-quite-Bond, still rough-around-the-edges, still trying to be the suave gentleman he was trained to be. We follow him on an international spy mission to save the world from The Red Diamond, a villain hell-bent on plunging society into chaos. Eggsy’s also up against the villain’s lethal hunchback henchman (hunchman?!) Ingot, and out to woo badass South African agent Kwaito while he’s at it.

Cue riots, explosions, and plenty of old school Kingsman violence.

KINGSMAN: THE RED DIAMOND is the sequel to KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE by Mark Millar, Dave Gibbons, and Matthew Vaughn. KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE is the critically acclaimed comic book series by Kick-Ass writer Mark Millar, Watchmen's Dave Gibbons and director Matthew Vaughn. Now a Hollywood blockbuster starring Colin Firth and Taron Egerton, KINGSMAN reinvents the spy genre for the 21st century. The story follows a British secret agent who takes his wayward nephew under his wing and trains him to become a gentleman spy. Together, they uncover a plot that links kidnapped celebrities with a plot to eradicate 90% of the human race!
