MAY 19, 2017 – NEW YORK, NY   Academy Award® nominated documentarian Morgan Spurlock teams with fellow nominated filmmaker Amanda Micheli to bring her Tribeca Film Fest hit “VEGAS BABY” on the gamble of in vitro fertilization (IVF) to the public.  Spurlock signed on this week as the film’s executive producer together with his business partner Jeremy Chilnick.  
"I am so proud to be a part of this important movie and to have the opportunity to share it with audiences,” said Spurlock. “As the parent of a beautiful baby boy who came into our life through IVF, I understand the struggle and desire that comes with wanting a child in your life. The entire process can be a strain beyond words: mentally, emotionally, financially…but for us, it was worth it all in the end.”
Despite the fact that 1 in 6 couples worldwide struggles with infertility, it is rarely talked about,” said director Micheli. “We are thrilled to have Morgan on our team to help us break the silence around this issue, which is so often misunderstood.”
VEGAS BABY pulls back the curtain on the world of reproductive medicine through a provocative, “truth is stranger than fiction” premise. The film follows aspiring parents from all walks of life who place themselves in the hands of a Las Vegas doctor and his annual contest, which offers the prize of a free round of IVF -- with no guarantee of success. Contestants post video entries online telling their stories, counting on the votes of strangers to make their dreams of becoming parents true. 
While exposing private pain online to win a contest is a brutal proposition, IVF is rarely covered by insurance in the U.S., so many infertile couples consider this a gamble worth taking. VEGAS BABY navigates the complexities of America's burgeoning fertility industry and paints an intimate portrait of the diverse individuals from a devoutly Catholic Latino couple in Texas to a lesbian Lady Gaga Impersonator in New York determined to have a baby against all odds.

On the heels of a national Tugg theatrical release, FilmRise launched VEGAS BABY on Mother’s Day for purchase/rent on all major digital platforms including iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and Vudu. The film will have its national public television broadcast premiere on “America Reframed” on June 27th 2017. In July, it will be released worldwide on a subscriber video on-demand platform to be announced at a later date.

Studios is pumped to announce HI-FI FIGHT CLUB, a new series launching in August from filmmaker Carly Usdin (Suicide Kale, RuPaul's Drag Race) and artist Nina Vakueva (Lilith’s Word). Hi-Fi Fight Club is a music-infused, action-adventure series that takes rock ’n’ roll fandom out of the record store and into the streets.

The year: 1998. The place: New Jersey. Chris has just started the teen dream job: working at Vinyl Mayhem, the local record store. She's prepared to deal with anything—misogynistic metalheads, grunge wannabes, even a crush on her wicked cute co-worker, Maggie. But when Rory Gory, the staff's favorite singer, mysteriously vanishes the night before her band’s show in town, Chris finds out her co-workers are doing more than just sorting vinyl...her local indie record store is also a front for a teen girl vigilante fight club!

Hi-Fi Fight Club is equal parts Empire Records and The Baby-Sitters Club, with a little D.E.B.S., Scott Pilgrim, and Lumberjanes in there as well,” describes Usdin. “It’s a fantasy based on my life growing up in New Jersey in the ’90s. All I wanted to do was to work at a record store and be a superhero. Music was my primary means for self-discovery and I look back on that time period very fondly. There's also some wish-fulfillment on a deeply personal level as I do often wish I had come out in high school instead of waiting until college.”

“I love creating and developing characters for stories, so I look forward to learning more about our Hi-Fi Fight Club cast through their actions and speech, coming up with special gestures and facial expressions for them, and designing their individual styles,” adds Vakueva. “Plus, with the story set in the ’90s, it's been a nice bonus browsing through a lot of fashion photos from that period!”

While Vakueva has worked on her own webcomic (Lilith’s Word) before, this is Usdin’s first foray into the medium.

“You can't see it but I have a ridiculous smile on my face right now,” beams the filmmaker. “I loved comic books as a kid—I spent countless hours hanging out in our local comic book shop with my mom, going to local conventions... so this is absolutely a dream come true. And I couldn't imagine having a better partner than BOOM! Studios.”

“This comic manages to combine so many of my favorite things I’ve lost count,” says Shannon Watters, Editor. “I cannot wait to see Carly and Nina rock this series!”

Studios is thrilled to announce MECH CADET YU, a new monthly series launching in August from longtime collaborators Greg Pak (The Incredible Hulk, War Machine) and Takeshi Miyazawa (Ms. Marvel, Runaways). The pair has worked together in the past on projects like Code Monkey Save World and ABC Disgusting, and are widely known for the creation of Amadeus Cho, who would eventually star in Marvel’s Totally Awesome Hulk.

Mech Cadet Yu is the story of Stanford Yu, a young janitor who is unexpectedly chosen to join the sacred ranks of the mech cadets at Sky Corps Academy. Once a year, giant robots from outer space come to Earth to bond with the cadets to defend the world from terrifying aliens known as the Sharg. After he unintentionally bonds with his robot, Yu is thrown into training, hoping to prove he is worthy of being there at all. 

“I love giant robots. And I love quirky, personal stories about lonely kids trying to find their crew and mission in the world,” says Pak. “So many of the stories I’ve written over the years are rooted in things I loved the most when I was 10 years old—like giant robots, natch. It’s a thrill to finally be writing that kind of story from the point of view of a character who’s an actual kid. And I’m excited to be writing multi-dimensional Asian American lead characters in a genre that’s so beloved by so many Asian Americans, but seldom features them.”

“To me, working with Greg Pak is a chance to work on something special,” adds Miyazawa. “Mech Cadet Yu is one of those special projects, an underdog story about beating the odds, making friends, and kicking alien butt in giant robots. When he came to me with the idea, it was something I couldn’t turn down.”

“Tak’s got an incredible ability to bring out all the emotional nuance and humor that makes the friendships and rivalries of young characters feel utterly real and relatable,” praises Pak. “And he draws giant robots like nobody’s business. Coming to cinemas for two hilarious nights this June “RiffTrax Live: Summer Shorts Beach Party!,” unites the RiffTrax masterminds: Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett (of “Mystery Science Theater 3000” fame), MST3K alumni and some famous friends to put the (sun)burns on a series of bizarre shorts, as well as a few goofy educational bits.
 
Presented by Fathom Events and RiffTrax, “RiffTrax Live: Summer Shorts Beach Party!” comes to movie theaters nationwide live on Thursday, June 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. CT / 7:00 p.m. MT / 8:00 p.m. PT (MT and PT tape-delayed) with a special second showing on Tuesday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m. (local time).
 
Joining Mike, Kevin and Bill will be RiffTrax’s own duo of Bridget Jones (MST3K’s beloved “Mister B Natural”) and Mary Jo Pehl (MST3K’s “Pearl Forrester”), Paul F.
