FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Fans cheer “Canyon Road” teaser trailer at 2011 San Diego Comic
Con

The first teaser trailer for the new feature thriller “Canyon
Road” premiered at the 2011 San Diego Comic Con to a very
enthusiastic fan response. Unspooling at the Dark Sky Pictures booth,
the unexpected and unannounced teaser trailer played repeatedly to
large crowds in the convention hall, many of whom clamored to learn
more about this film and see the young stars signing autographs and
meeting their new fans for the very first time.

In this harrowing original film, a young couple trapped in a failing
marriage is unexpectedly buried under a mudslide on Malibu Canyon Road
and must fight for survival (in the vein of "Open Water," "Buried,"
and "Frozen".)

Post-Comic Con, the “Canyon Road” teaser trailer can be seen at
http://www.canyonroadmovie.com/trailer

Stars Roxanne Jaeckel and Ivan Lovegren held repeated autograph
sessions, signing hundreds of production stills and custom “CynRd”
keychains for clamoring fans. Tabling at the Dark Sky Pictures booth
between the "Twilight: New Moon" headquarters and fans seeking the
cast of "The Big Bang Theory", and excitedly signing autographs
alongside stars such as Doug Jones (“The Silver Surfer”;
“Hellboy I” & “II”), Robert Picardo (“Star Trek:
Voyager”), Camden Toy (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” [Television
Series]) and model Chanel Ryan, the two feature actors were a hit with
the Comic Con crowd.

The film will also include the world-premiere of the new song "Next
Time We'll Shine" by Michael Bluestein, keyboardist/backing vocals for
Foreigner. A music video is under way to be released as part of the
“Canyon Road” experience.

“Canyon Road” was produced by Sheri Reeves, an accomplished film
producer and part of the Emmy-winning team on “The Hawaiian Moving
Company;” her previous film, “Jack the Reaper”, won Best
Horror/Sci Fi at the Cannes Independent Film Festival in 2011.

The film is aiming for a spring 2012 release; talks are already
unofficially underway with several studios vying to distribute this
unique and original thriller.
“Ape Entertainment makes fans twice as RICH”

Two New Ongoing Richie Rich® Titles To Be Released This Fall

San Diego, CA (August 01, 2011)—Ape Entertainment and Classic Media are pleased to announce two new ongoing Richie Rich® titles. Due to the overwhelming success of the initial limited series, the first of Ape’s new ongoing titles under the KiZoic “young reader” imprint will be “RICHIE RICH: Rich Rescue”. The 2011 mini-series featured an updated globe-trotting version of Richie Rich and friends traveling the world helping those in need. Responding to fan and retailer demand spurred by the success of the re-envisioned Richie Rich, Ape Entertainment will revive the classic title “Richie Rich GEMS” as an ongoing series to reprint classic Richie Rich stories originally published by Harvey Comics.

“Our fans and retailers have spoken and they are thrilled to have Richie Rich back,” says Ape Entertainment COO Brent E. Erwin. “We have been receiving a ton of comments from them telling us how much they enjoy the newRichie Rich. Retailers have been asking us for a reprint title in standard comic format, so we are pleased to be able to offer them Richie Rich GEMS once again” commented Erwin.

With the return of “Richie Rich GEMS” (28 pages priced at $3.99), Ape will pick up and continue the numbering with issue #44 where the original series left off. The GEMS title will reprint classic Richie Rich stories from previously published Harvey Comics titles, and the stories have been re-colored to accommodate the higher quality printing practices of today’s market. In addition, each GEMS issue will also feature a brand new “Classic Richie Rich” story by legendary creators Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colon.

Scheduled for a November 2011 release, “Richie Rich: Rich Rescue” #5 (28 pages priced at $3.99), will feature a “Super Hero” parody sporting 3 classic homage covers, one of which is a special retailer incentive.

Richie Rich: Rich Rescue can be described as part James Bond and part Indiana Jones with Donald Trump’s bank account. In this series, Richie Rich is an altruistic adventurer who travels the world helping the less fortunate. Join Richie and the gang from Rich Rescue on exciting, all new adventures sure to excite an all new generation! VIZ MEDIA’S NAOKI URASAWA’S 20th CENTURY BOYS
WINS A 2011 EISNER AWARD

Manga Masterpiece Recognized With The Comic Book Industry’s Most Prestigious Award

San Francisco, CA, July 28, 2011 – VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), the largest distributor and licensor of anime and manga in North America, is proud to announce that NAOKI URASAWA’S 20th CENTURY BOYS was recognized with an Eisner Award in the Best U.S. Edition of International Material - Asia category during award ceremonies held at the recent Comic-Con International event in San Diego, CA. NAOKI URASAWA’S 20th CENTURY BOYS is published in North America by VIZ Media’s Signature imprint. Volume 17 of the series will be released in August.

20th CENTURY BOYS is the story of a group of boys who try to save the world. Humanity, having faced extinction at the end of the 20th century, would not have entered the new millennium if it weren't for them. In 1969, during their youth, they created a symbol. In 1997, as the coming disaster slowly starts to unfold, that symbol returns.

For Kenji, a simple convenience store manager who once dreamed of becoming a rock 'n' roll musician, a host of memories from his past come rushing back when one of his childhood friends mysteriously commits suicide. Could this new death be related to the rise of a bizarre new cult that's been implicated in several other murders and disappearances? Determined to dig deeper, Kenji reunites with some of his old buddies in the hope of learning the truth behind it all.

“We’re elated to have NAOKI URASAWA’S 20th CENTURY BOYS recognized by the comic book industry such a prestigious award,” says Andy Nakatani, Editorial Director at VIZ Media and editor for the title. “Urasawa‘s tense and dramatic storylines have firmly established him among the very top echelon of manga creators. With this, and other acclaimed series such as NAOKI URASAWA’S MONSTER and PLUTO: URASAWA ´ TEZUKA, Naoki Urasawa continues to push the boundaries of the manga genre, and we look forward to this award bringing his work to the attention of many new fans across North America.”

The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards are considered the "Oscars" of the comic book industry and are named for renowned cartoonist Will Eisner (creator of The Spirit and several award-winning graphic novels). The awards are handed out each year in a gala ceremony at Comic-Con International in San Diego, the largest and oldest comic book convention in the United States.

Naoki Urasawa's career as a manga artist spans more than twenty years and has firmly established him as one of the true manga masters of Japan. Born in Tokyo in 1960, Urasawa debuted with BETA! in 1983 and hasn't stopped his impressive output since. Well-versed in a variety of genres, Urasawa's oeuvre encompasses a multitude of different subjects, such as a romantic comedy (YAWARA! A FASHIONABLE JUDO GIRL), a suspenseful human drama about a former mercenary (PINEAPPLE ARMY; story by Kazuya Kudo), a captivating psychological suspense story (NAOKI URASAWA’S MONSTER), a sci-fi adventure manga (NAOKI URASAWA’S 20TH CENTURY BOYS), and a modern reinterpretation of the work of the God of Manga, Osamu Tezuka (PLUTO: URASAWA X TEZUKA; co-authored with Takashi Nagasaki, supervised by Macoto Tezka, and with the cooperation of Tezuka Productions). Many of his books have spawned popular animated and live-action TV programs and films, and 2008 saw the theatrical release of the first of three live-action Japanese films based on NAOKI URASAWA’S 20TH CENTURY BOYS.

No stranger to accolades and awards, Urasawa is a three-time recipient of the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award, a two-time recipient of the Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize, and has received the Kodansha Manga Award. Urasawa has also become involved in the world of academia, and in 2008 accepted a guest teaching post at Nagoya Zokei University, where he teaches courses in, of course, manga.

Unite and Take Over is a comic book anthology of stories inspired by the songs of the Smiths. The premise of the book is "What is the story that plays in your head when you listen to your favorite Smiths song?". I've assembled 15 different creative teams to put their stories down on paper. We are planning to release Unite and Take Over at Tucson Comic-con (www.tucsoncomic-con.com) this November.

I order to pay for some of the production costs when have set up a Kickstarter campaign (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/756324374/unite-and-take-over-comic-stories-inspired-by-the) that includes some interesting rewards for people who pledge. Kickstarter is a crowdsourcing website that helps arts projects fund raise. Projects set up a fundraising goal and set a fundraising deadline. Backers make pledges toward that goal. If the pledge goal is met, backers are charged their pledge. If the pledge goal is not met, backs are charged nothing. In exchange for their pledge, backers are giving rewards based upon the size of their pledge.

Our Kickstarter campaign has a unique Kickstarter reward. Keeping in line with the tribute spirit of our book, we have teamed up with over a dozen different Smiths tribute banks from across the world to create a special cover. Artist Michael Stewart (michaelstewartart.blogspot.com) is going to be incorporating the lead singers of the bands into the cover. This cover will be printed according to the number of Kickstarter backers who select it as part of their reward. Bands participating in the cover include the lead singers of Strangeways, Handsome Devilz, This Charming Band, Sweet and Tender Hooligans,The Sons and Heirs, The Smiths United, Still ill, The Socialists, Louder Than Bombs, Viva Morrisey, The Smiths Limited and The Smyths. We also have a special cover that is created specifically for the Tucson Comic-con illustrated by Jason Pedersen (www.jasonpedersen.com).

Those interested in pledging to our project can go to http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/756324374/unite-and-take-over-comic-stories-inspired-by-the. They can also find bios of the creators and band at uniteandtakeover-smiths.blogspot.com.

INDOMINA EMBRACES ‘FEAR’

The Indomina Group, Universal Pictures and Pinewood Studios Group Pact on Financing and Distribution for New Comedy “A Fantastic Fear of Everything”

Los Angeles, CA / London, England – July 27, 2011 – It was announced today that The Indomina Group, the fast-growing U.S. and Dominican Republic based producer and distributor of film, TV and transmedia content, has acquired North American Distribution rights to the comedy “A Fantastic Fear of Everything” starring Simon Pegg (“Shaun of the Dead,” “Hot Fuzz”) and produced by Keel Films. The announcement was made by Indomina Group Vice Chairman and CEO Jasbinder Singh Mann.

Currently being shot at Shepperton Studios in London, the film will be released in the U.S. through Indomina’s North American distribution division, Indomina Releasing. Universal Pictures will release the film in the UK, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Latin America. Indomina’s international sales division will handle sales for all other territories. Indomina is also providing production financing.

“A Fantastic Fear of Everything” is written and directed by musician-turned-filmmaker Crispian Mills, marking his feature debut. He is joined by co-director and animator Chris Hopewell as part of a collaboration with Collision Films, whose award-winning work includes Radiohead’s There There and The Killers’ Smile Like You Mean It. The film is produced by Geraldine Patten.

In the film, Jack (Simon Pegg) is a children’s author turned crime novelist whose detailed research into the lives of Victorian serial killers has turned him into a paranoid wreck, persecuted by the irrational fear of being murdered. When Jack is thrown a life-line by his long-suffering agent and a mysterious Hollywood executive takes a sudden and inexplicable interest in his script, what should be his ‘big break’ rapidly turns into his ‘big breakdown’, as Jack is forced to confront his worst demons; among them his love life, his laundry and the origin of all fear.

Starring Simon Pegg as Jack, and introducing Alan Drake, A Fantastic Fear of Everything also stars Amara Karan (The Darjeeling Limited), Clare Higgins (Hellraiser) and Sheridan Smith (Hysteria).

“A Fantastic Fear of Everything” is the first film to receive backing from ‘Pinewood Films’ - a new finance initiative for small budget independent British films by the Pinewood Studios Group.

Timothy Truman Brings the Weird West to 2011 Baltimore Comic-Con

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND - July 27, 2011 - Legendary comics artist and writer Timothy Truman will give East Coast fans an exclusive first look at artwork, covers, and designs for Hawken, his highly-anticipated western horror series, at this year's Baltimore Comic-Con , August 20-21, 2011, at the Baltimore Convention Center , 1 West Pratt Street, Baltimore, MD 21201.Hawken

Co-created with his 28-year-old son, writer Benjamin Truman, the new project tells the tale of ghost-haunted pistolero Kitchell Hawken and his blood-drenched vendetta against the men who scalped and tortured him then left him for dead. The first issue ships in November from IDW Publishing.

Renowned for his work on such titles as hard-hitting action titles as Grimjack, Scout, Wilderness, Hawkworld, Turok, Jonah Hex, and Dark Horse Comics' Conan, Timothy is hardly a stranger to the BCC. "Baltimore is by far my favorite convention every year," Truman says. "I attended my first show several years ago, after I decided to take the day off and check it out as a 'civilian.' I was immediately impressed. Baltimore Comic-Con made me feel like a 'fan' again. I haven't missed a show since." To mark the Baltimore preview, Tim and Ben are preparing limited edition Hawken BCC t-shirts and prints especially for the appearance.

In his featured blog for the pop-culture site The Morton Report , journalist Bill Baker gave readers a taste of what to expect from the new tale:

"Over the course of his long and storied career, writer-artist Timothy Truman has had brushes with all manner of killers and antiheroes. But his latest encounter with the darker side of humanity, in the supernaturally-charged Western miniseries features Hawken, a character that he freely admits is perhaps the worst of the lot.

"According to Truman, the titular character, Kitchell Hawken 'has been many things in his day: Scout, tracker, trader, scalp-hunter, raider, hired gun.... But mostly, he's been a nasty son-of-a-bitch.'

"Each issue of the six-part tale follows the aged Hawken as he wreaks bloody vengeance upon the very men he used to work for, a cartel of corrupt politicians and arms merchants called the Tucson Ring. Along the way readers learn more about Hawken's reason for turning on his former employers and the many horrors that the haunted gunman has committed over the course of a blood-soaked life.

"And just to be clear, 'haunted' literally describes Hawken's situation, as the remorseless killer's accompanied throughout his vendetta by the ghost of every person he's killed, all unwilling companions forced by a curse to assist the gunslinger with his vengeance.

"Truman, who's become known for his ability to portray unlikable loners in convincing manner, freely admits, 'Folks would be hard-pressed to find a character as ruthless as Kit Hawken. He has good reasons for his rampage, and believe me, a rampage it is. For once, the bad guys have truly messed with the wrong man.'

"And while anyone might be hard-pressed to describe the proceedings as family fare, it is, in fact, a family affair. That's because Tim Truman's creative partner on this project is none other than Ben Truman, his son.

"Ben, who's scripting the series, works as a teacher in Tucson, AZ. As he describes it, the character and his sordid tale arose almost by chance during one of his parents' visits to the area last year. The younger Truman recalled that 'while driving through Crater Park I asked Dad if he's ever seen any accounts where a man had survived a scalping. Somehow, that kicked it off.

"'Hawken grew out of the landscapes of each new place we visited: His name in Flagstaff, his past in Bisbee, the curse in Tempe, his vendetta in Tombstone. By the time we left San Xavier Mission, the first issue was plotted.'

"The elder Truman gained widespread notoriety with his first two major efforts, Scout and .Grimjack These comics were some of the most critically lauded independent comics of the '80s, fan-favorites that catapulted Truman and his various creative partners into the upper echelons of the mainstream comics industry."

Each of the six issues of Hawken will cost $3.99 and contain 32 pages printed in antiqued duo-tone. The book joins such popular IDW titles as 30 Days of Night, Hasbro's Transformers and G.I. JOE, Paramount's Star Trek, Toho's Godzilla, HBO's True Blood, and the BBC's Dr. Who.

SCIENCE’S PEABODY AWARD-WINNING SERIES, WONDERS OF THE UNIVERSE PREMIERES WEDNESDAY, JULY 27 AT 9PM ET/PT

-- Rock-Star-Turned-Physicist Professor Brian Cox Featured Guest on The Colbert Report 7/25

There is no more all-encompassing source of mystery than the universe. Since the dawn of humanity, its vastness has elicited endless wonder and questions that have consumed mankind’s intellect and imagination. This week, SCIENCE welcomes back Professor Brian Cox, the physicist whom the Los Angeles Times affectionately calls “the nerd who is cooler than you,” for the four-part series WONDERS OF THE UNIVERSE. Expanding on the promise of 2010’s Peabody Award-winning WONDERS OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM, Cox takes viewers even farther to explore how deep space can be explained— and even experienced—by re-examining the familiar here on Earth. WONDERS OF THE UNIVERSE kicks off on Wednesday, July 27, at 9 PM (ET/PT), with new episodes airing over four consecutive weeks.

In the premiere episode, Professor Brian Cox searches for humanity’s very essence by asking the biggest questions of all: What are we, and where do we come from? Forged deep in the hearts of stars, the untold trillions of atoms that make up each of us link together to tell the story of the universe’s origin. This is the story of matter—the substance that makes up everyone and everything in the universe. Using physics and cosmology, Cox explores life’s beginnings by looking deep into space at the process of stellar evolution.
THE SAGA BEGINS IN 2012
Image Comics Welcomes Return of Brian K. Vaughan

Berkeley, CA – 25 July 2011 – Leading up to San Diego Comic-Con 2011, comics fans and the comics news media buzzed with rumors that Brian K. Vaughan, the acclaimed writer of Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, Runaways and Pride of Baghdad, was returning to comics. Vaughan's return was confirmed at Image Comics' Kirkman Talks Creator-Owned panel Saturday, when Vaughan announced that he is launching SAGA, an all-new ongoing title co-created with artist Fiona Staples, at Image in 2012.

"It's an honor to be doing my first work with Image as they start to celebrate twenty years of publishing creator-owned comics," said Vaughan.

Vaughan continued, "I love this medium more than any other, and I've been dying to tackle one more epic ongoing monthly series, but I wanted to find the right story and the perfect collaborator. I'm more excited about SAGA with co-creator Fiona Staples than any project I've ever worked on, so I hope we'll be able to explore our strange new universe for years to come."

Fiona Staples is a Shuster Award-winning artist whose most recent work includes Jonah Hex, Mystery Society, Northlanders, and the Eisner-nominated North 40.

"I don't think I've made it a secret that Brian is one of my absolute favorite writers in comics and my enthusiasm for his excellent work makes me beyond excited to welcome him to the fold," commented Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson. "Likewise, I've admired Fiona's work for years, and I think she and Brian are a perfect match. There aren't enough superlatives for a team like this!"

Their science fiction SAGA will be an ongoing drama for adults, chronicling the epic life and times of one young family fighting to survive a never-ending war.

SAGA #1 will debut in early 2012.

MEET SAM SARKAR,

CREATOR AND

WRITER OF THE VAULT

On July 27th, starting at 7:00 P.M., Golden Apple Comics will present an autograph signing with Sam Sarkar, for the release of the new comic book from Image Comics, THE VAULT.

THE VAULT is about a small team of treasure hunters, struggling to excavate a dangerous and legendary treasure pit before a massive storm hits Sable Island, the "Graveyard of the North Atlantic." Equipped with all the latest technology, the scientists believe they are prepared against all of nature's fury, but nothing can prepare them for what they are about to unleash.

"THE VAULT is kind of a contemporary Pandora’s Box story," explained creator and writer, Sam Sarkar. "Though it appears on the surface to be a pretty straightforward story, it has most of its mythology buried deeply. It gets uncovered both literally and figuratively as the pit gets excavated."

THE VAULT issue #1 autograph event will take place in Los Angeles at Golden Apple Comics on July 27th, 2011 from 7-9 P.M. at 7018 Melrose Avenue in Hollywood. For more information, please call 323-658-6047.
