First up, a unique book which you can fold-out all the way with a street scene, one side evolving by day, one by night. A visual treat!

STREET VIEW
By Pascal Rabaté

http://www.nbmpub.com/comicslit/streetview/streetviewcover.jpg

A visually incomparable treat and a brilliant homage to Hitchcock’s Rear Window, this unusual accordion book opens in two directions. One, a series of ten tableaux on a street scene as it evolves during the day. The next on 10 evening tableaux of the same view. A window may serve as a source of light and fresh air, but it also presents a view onto the life of a street and its many other windows, each a separate scene of its own, with its multitude of on-going stories developing before your eyes. Within those windows, you can witness the lives of single people, couples, families, stories of love, separation and possibly even… murder.

But the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, and his wife Kushina Uzumaki sealed the Tailed Beast into their newborn son, Naruto, to save the village, foiling the shinobi’s plan.

Years later, Naruto and his friends succeed in driving away the infamous Akatsuki, who have mysteriously returned from the dead. Upon returning to the village, the young shinobi are praised by their families for completing a dangerous mission. Reminded of how alone he is, Naruto begins to wonder what it’s like to have parents, when a strange masked figure appears before him – the same masked shinobi responsible for the death of his parents!

Naruto is finding that he’s older, but will he also prove wiser and stronger?

DARK HORSE AND KITCHEN SINK PRESENT REALMS: THE ROLEPLAYING GAME ART OF TONY DITERLIZZI

Book Offers Never-Before-Published Collection of Game Art From the Caldecott Honor Recipient and New York Times Bestselling Author and Illustrator, Who Was Inspired to Become An Artist After Playing Dungeons & Dragons As A Kid
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MILWAUKIE, OR– Dark Horse Comics and Kitchen Sink Books are thrilled to announce Realms: The Roleplaying Game Art of Tony DiTerlizzi (June 3, 2015) the first comprehensive collection of game art by the award-winning New York Times bestselling author and illustrator.
Known for his distinctive style depicting fantastical creatures, horrific monsters, and courageous heroes, DiTerlizzi’s illustrations reshaped and defined the worlds of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, Planescape, and Magic: The Gathering in the imaginations of legions of devoted roleplaying gamers during the 1990s, before he transitioned to children’s book creation.

Among his most renowned works are the chapter book series The Spiderwick Chronicles, a literary phenomenon which has sold millions of copies and has been translated into 30 languages. In 2008, Spiderwick was adapted into a successful feature film by Paramount and Nickelodeon Pictures. Tony also wrote and illustrated the WondLa trilogy, Ted, Jimmy Zangwow’s Out-of-this-World Moon Pie Adventure and The Spider and the Fly – the picture book for which he received the Caldecott Honor, one of the most prestigious awards in children’s publishing.  DiTerlizzi currently has over 12 million books in print worldwide.
REALMS will be filled with hundreds of illustrations reproduced from the original art, unpublished sketches, and photographs from DiTerlizzi’s archives. In addition, DiTerlizzi will be creating a number of new paintings exclusively for this edition.
Along with commentary by the artist, Christopher Paolini (Eragon) provides the introduction while seminal figures in fantasy – such as  Guillermo del Toro, Brom, Jane Yolen, Holly Black, Zeb Cook, Jeff Easley, and Donato Giancola, among others – provide personal appreciations.
”There is no question that the work I did in gaming early in my career shaped me as an author and illustrator for children,” says DiTerlizzi.  “In RPGs, I was not just tasked with illustrating a character, but also the artifacts they use, the armor they wear, the places they inhabit and the monsters they vanquish. It was my introduction to worldbuilding and an experience I will forever cherish.”
"Dark Horse has been fortunate enough to work with some of history's greatest artists" said Dark Horse president Mike Richardson. "I am excited to add Tony DiTerlizzi's name to a list that includes the likes of Mike Mignola, Frank Miller, and Geof Darrow.”
“Tony was one of the most respected and well-known names in gaming when he made a risky decision to make the leap and pursue his lifelong dream of illustrating books for younger readers,” says Kitchen Sink Books co-founder and REALMS editor/designer John Lind.  “His unique artistic style and success in that genre is a tribute to his roots in gaming. For fans of his work, REALMS is a dream project and one that we’ve spoken about assembling for years. We’re thrilled to finally make this book become a reality—we hope fans will feel the same!”

Praise for REALMS: The Roleplaying Game Art of Tony DiTerlizzi
“Tony’s work has a distinct flair, a love for monsters if you will.   His creatures have the charm of Henson or Rackham but they carry with them hints of their own ecosystem.  He stands alone as a creator of worlds and a weaver of tales.  May you treasure these art pieces as much as I do.”  - Guillermo del Toro  (Director of Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy, and Pacific Rim)
“Tony draws and paints some of the best dragons around, which is a lot harder than you might think. And I should know!”  - Christopher Paolini (Author of Eragon, from his introduction)
Realms: The Roleplaying Game Art of Tony DiTerlizzi Full color hardcover, 9x12, 224 pages is available June 3, 2015.   Two special deluxe editions of  REALMS will also be offered in limited  quantities:  The "Double Damage" edition features an enclosed signed and numbered print of a new exclusive image produced for REALMS. The very limited "Critical Hit" edition will contain an original DiTerlizzi drawing bound into the book. More details on these exciting deluxe editions will be announced in the coming months.
About Tony DiTerlizzi
A New York Times bestselling author and illustrator, Tony DiTerlizzi has been illustrating books for over two decades.   From picture books he’s written and illustrated, like Jimmy Zangwow’s Out-of-this-World Moon Pie Adventure, Ted and The Spider & The Fly (a Caldecott Honor book), to chapter books like Kenny and The Dragon and the WondLa trilogy, Tony always imbues his stories with a rich imagination. He also co-created and illustrated the middle-grade series, The Spiderwick Chronicles, which has sold millions of copies, been adapted into a feature film, and has been translated into over 30 languages. Earlier this year he teamed up with Lucasfilm to retell the original Star Wars trilogy in picture book format featuring artwork by Academy Award®-winning concept artist Ralph McQuarrie (release date: October 7, 2014).  His association with roleplaying art goes back to 1992 when, after graduating from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale with a degree in graphic design, Tony  began working freelance for TSR, publisher of Dungeons & Dragons – a game that had inspired him to become an illustrator as a child. He illustrated many fantastical images of warriors, wizards and monsters throughout the 1990’s, and contributed many images to the collectible card game Magic the Gathering.

THE FUSE—NEW STORY ARC
SPARKS NEW ADVENTURE
Issue #7 will begin with a bang

"Space cops investigating space murders is the sort of synopsis that gets my attention, and so far Johnston and Greenwood appear to have the world-building skills and noir chops to back it up... If you're a fan of detective stories and sci-fi that's more gritty than glossy, it's worth a look." —WIRED

Writer Antony Johnston (UMBRAL, Wasteland, Daredevil) and artist Justin Greenwood (Wasteland, Resurrection) will ignite an all-new story arc in the gritty science fiction thriller THE FUSE with issue #7. The series smolders with murder, mystery, and mayhem 22,000 miles straight up—and there’s still no backup. So begins Part One of “Gridlock,” providing the perfect opportunity for readers to jump in on the action when it hits shelves on 11/5. THE FUSE #7 will also boast a variant cover by critically-acclaimed REVIVAL and Red Sonja artist Jenny Frison and a bonus backup strip “TABLOID.”

They call it Gridlocking—maglev-bike races across the Fuse’s vast solar arrays. Fast, dangerous, and very illegal. When a gridlocker turns up dead, Klem and Ralph begin their own race to catch a killer.

"Reader response to The Fuse has been amazing, especially to our unique grumpy old female detective, Klem,” said Johnston. “Now in 'Gridlock' we're turning up the sci-fi, and delving deep into the seedy underbelly of this run-down space station. Justin is doing the best work of his career, and I can't wait for readers to see it."

THE FUSE #7 will be available on 11/5 and can be pre-ordered with Diamond Code SEP140719. Cover B will feature artwork by Jenny Frison and can be pre-ordered using Diamond Code SEP140720.

Johnston will be signing at the Forbidden Planet Megastore in London, England on 8/30 from 3-4 p.m. to celebrate the launch of the trade paperback of THE FUSE, which collects issues #1-6. THE FUSE, VOL. 1 will be available on 8/27 for $9.99 and can be ordered with Diamond Code JUN140504.

UNDERTOW BREAKS THE SURFACE OF REVOLUTION

Rebellion against Atlantis’ 1% in September graphic novel

The Atlantean dream is over. Atlantis’ once-shining society has deteriorated into dissolute plutocracy. The only escape, for some of its citizens who want freedom from its constricts, is in the unknown frontier on the surface of the ocean. In the September graphic novel UNDERTOW by Steve Orlando and Artyom Trakhanov, the rebel Redum Anshargal leads a crew of Atlantean defectors toward an uncertain future.
Joining Anshargal in VOLUME ONE: BOATMAN’S CALL, as he chases a rumor of the mysterious “Amphibian” who may be the key to living on land as well as in the ocean, is Ukinuu Alal, a young man from a wealthy family who chose to abandon a life a privilege for one of freedom.
For writer Orlando, the tension between the two men’s relationship with their homeland is the heart of the story. “Both have so much anger, but how do they react to it?” he said in an interview at Broken Frontier. “For Anshargal, it is detachment. He hates Atlantis, but simply wants to live away from it. Living well is the best revenge, that is. For Ukinnu, though, his is a younger anger, more petulant, and he wants to hurt Atlantis — to get back at it, for grinding him through its social soul-crushing machine.”
Orlando’s partnership with Russian artist Trakhanov arises from a shared love of pulp and science fiction — and, of course, comics. Trakhanov makes use of scratchy inks, vivid, clashing colors, and underwater visuals that can be murky but never muddled to create the world of UNDERTOW.
“Artyom’s influence is huge; much of the visuals and tone come from him,” said Orlando. “My design notes are almost always emotional rather than visual, noting how the creations should make other characters in the story or readers feel, the thoughts they should evoke, and then Artyom runs that through his artistic powers and creates something amazing.”
UNDERTOW VOLUME ONE: BOATMAN’S CALL also includes never-before-printed stories set in the UNDERTOW universe by Blair Butler (HEART) and TJ Kirsch (OUTLAW TERRITORY), Leila del Duca (SHUTTER) and Tony Gregori with colors by Mike Spicer (Sons of Anarchy), and Tyler Niccum (OUTLAW TERRITORY) and Yaroslav Astapeev.
UNDERTOW VOLUME ONE: BOATMAN’S CALL by Steve Orlando and Artyom Trakhanov

Praise for UNDERTOW:
“...an exceptionally contemporary piece of science fiction, thanks to the work of writer Steve Orlando, artist/colorist Artyom Trakhanov, and letterer/designer Thomas Mauer.” –Oliver Sava, The A.V. Club
“The mix of spectacle, plot progression, character progression, and social commentary creates a perfect blend of everything that makes comics great. Well done.” –Jean-Luc Botbyl, We the Nerdy
“...beautifully-executed and truly unique in concept.” –Jen Aprahamian, Comic Vine
“[Undertow] is gorgeous, and the scripting and art work together seamlessly to give us a tour of Atlantean life, technology, and philosophy….” –Mike Logdson, IGN

INTERSECT IS BOTH BEAUTIFUL
AND GROTESQUE
Ray Fawkes will cast a pall over November
with this dark new series

On the heels of bestselling cartoonist Ray Fawkes’ (Batman: Eternal, Constantine, One Soul, The People Inside) Image Expo announcement of his new project INTERSECT, Image Comics is pleased to reveal the official launch date of the terrifying new series will be 11/19.

Bodies shift and merge, warring with themselves. Blood rains from the skies. A child’s song is translated into toxic, thought-destroying whispers. Everything is changing. Everything is wrong. This is the world of INTERSECT.

Intersect is designed to work like a nightmare puzzle, transmitting information to the reader through symbols that reach behind the rational mind, into something deeper,” said Fawkes. “It’s a journey, beginning with four people in two bodies, chased through a rusting city by a relentless hunter. Where it leads is worlds stranger and more surprising…”

INTERSECT #1 will be available on 11/19 and can be pre-ordered with Diamond Code SEP140552. Cover B will feature artwork by Jeff Lemire and can be pre-ordered using Diamond Code SEP140553.

Original Iron Man & Avengers artist Don Heck gets his due in new TwoMorrows hardcover

In 2010, TwoMorrows Publishing produced a biography of Vince Colletta, the controversial, much-maligned, but highly prolific inker of comics in  the 1960s and 1970s. While many readers were initially skeptical of the idea of giving Colletta his own book, The Thin Black Line: Vince Colletta garnered rave reviews for finally documenting the compelling life and career of a pivotal comics artist, about whom little was known publicly.

TwoMorrows is at it again with their new biography, Don Heck: A Work of Art, which is officially shipping this week. Like with Colletta, fans have had a love/hate relationship with Don Heck (1929-1995), the original artist of Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and key early Avengers issues. In this full-color hardcover, Heck finally gets his due, thanks to author John Coates, who tirelessly researched the artist's background and career. It documents how he joined Atlas/Marvel Comics in 1954, and along with industry giants Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Joe Maneely, and Dick Ayers, became an integral player in “The Marvel Age of Comics”, drawing The X-Men, Spider-Man, Nick Fury—Agent of SHIELD, Daredevil, The Defenders, Ghost Rider, and most of Marvel's other major characters. Also covered is how he became regular artist on top-tier 1970s DC Comics titles such as Teen Titans, The Flash, Justice League of America, Wonder Woman, as well as putting in time at Dell, Gold Key, and as “ghost” artist on Lee Falk’s The Phantom newspaper strip.

In addition to personal recollections from Don’s surviving family, long-time friends, and comics industry legends, the narrative of the book is formed from two lengthy interviews with Heck himself (one rarely-seen, and another unpublished until now), which have been melded into a seamless conversation with Don. There's a wealth of examples of his artwork (all in full-color), and a special chapter where the author debunks the longstanding myth that putting Don as artist on a comic meant the sales would drop—complete with actual sales figures to prove the point. Iron Man co-creator Stan Lee provides the Foreword, and Beau Smith pens the Afterword.

TwoMorrows publisher John Morrow championed this project for several years—perhaps as a form of penance for his youthful ignorance. He shared, "As a kid, I was one of the fans who jumped on the popular bandwagon of considering Don Heck to be one of the worst artists in comics. Thankfully, I've matured since then, and have come to realize how wrong I was. So I challenge readers to give this book a try—you can't help but come away a new appreciation for this underrated artist. And wait'll you marvel at his amazing storytelling ability, especially when he was allowed to ink his own work."
This full-color hardcover is 192 pages long, and retails for $39.95. It is available now in both print and digital editions, through TwoMorrows website (www.twomorrows.com), comic and bookstores through Diamond Comic/Book Distributors, on Amazon.com, and through the company's app on the Apple and Android platform.

Of
Artist’s Edition Month!

What is an Artist's Edition?
AN ARTIST'S EDITION PRESENTS COMPLETE STORIES WITH EACH PAGE SCANNED FROM THE ACTUAL ORIGINAL ART.
While appearing to be in black & white, each page has been scanned in COLOR to mimic as closely as possible the experience of viewing the actual original art-for example, you are able to clearly see paste-overs, blue pencils in the art, editorial notes, art corrections. Each page is printed the same size as drawn, and the paper selected is as close as possible to the original art board.

FIRE & AXE AND WILDCATTERS SCHEDULED FOR 2015 RELEASE
BID, BUILD, CONQUER, AND COLONIZE YOUR WAY TO VICTORY NEXT SUMMER

(August 14th, 2014) IDW Games and Pandasaurus Games announced today at Gen Con 2014 in Indianapolis that they will bring two cult-favorite titles to tabletops in 2015; Fire & Axe and WildcattersFire & Axe pits players as Viking warriors, racing to pillage, plunder, and conquer their way across Europe, while Wildcatters sees players as oil barons maneuvering their corporations to come out on top during the 19th century oil boom.

“These are a pair of hidden gems,” said Molly Wardlaw of Pandasaurus Games. “Fire & Axe is a game that people in-the-know have played and loved, we’re happy to be printing it and meeting the pent-up demand for new copies. The new art team behind this edition is going to make it something very special. Wildcatters really hasn’t seen any U.S. exposure, people are going to love this game, it’s got great innovative mechanics, and excellent components, and yes, there will be blood.”

Fire & Axe seats three to five players, and is playable in roughly 90 minutes. Each round players take a turn that consists of seven in-game days to load their ships and send them out to trade with or conquer Europe. There is also a a unique mission system that gives all players a chance to complete tasks on mission cards, which when completed, awards bonuses that can tip the scales of battle.

Wildcatters is a deeply strategic economic game for three or four players, playable in roughly two hours.  Players work to develop oil fields, bid for oil rights, and build the equipment required to transport and refine their crude and take it to the market.  The game forces players to work together to find oil at a good price, and transport it to refineries, but only the player who delivers the most oil will come out on top.

Both titles will join a rapidly expanding lineup that features a mix of comic book adaptation games like CHEW, V-Wars, and 30 Days of Night as well as imported and original titles like Machi Koro and Diamonsters.
