Sal Buscema Joins Baltimore Comic-Con and The Harvey Awards (Saturday Only)!

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND - August 9, 2013 - The Baltimore Comic-Con is pleased to announce that legendary Marvel Comics artist, Sal Buscema, will be joining the guest list for the 14th annual show, taking place September 7-8, 2013. Buscema will be appearing at the show on Saturday only and will be receiving the HERO Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be presented at the Harvey Awards Banquet Saturday evening.

Sal Buscema SSM1
Sal Buscema got his start at Marvel Comics in 1968, joining his brother John who was already an established artist with the company. Cutting his teeth on such titles as Western Gunfighters, The Rawhide Kid, and The Silver Surfer, he got his big break in 1969 when he took over art duties for Marvel's premiere superhero team, The Avengers.

During the course of his career, Buscema has drawn nearly every character in the Marvel Universe, including career-defining runs on Amazing Spider-Man, The Avengers, Captain America, Incredible Hulk, Marvel Team-Up, and Thor. He even worked briefly for DC Comics from 1997-1999, drawing such characters as Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.

His 45-year career is being honored with the presentation of the Hero Initiative Lifetime Achievement Award at the Harvey Awards Banquet. The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally-chartered non-profit organization dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need, and creates a financial safety net for yesterday's creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. The Lifetime Achievement Award honors those creators who have made lasting contributions with the world of sequential art throughout their careers.

"We are honored to be able to host Sal [Buscema] here in Baltimore," said Marc Nathan, show promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. "His career spans more than four decades, and he's has been an influence to generations of comic artists. He is well-deserving of the Lifetime Achievement Award and we couldn't be happier to have it presented at the Harveys!"

TOBIAS MENZIES CAST IN STARZ & SONY PICTURES TV’S ANTICIPATED NEW ORIGINAL SERIES “OUTLANDER”

Menzies to Play Dual Roles of Frank Randall and the Duplicitous “Black Jack” Randall from Diana Gabaldon’s International Best-Selling Novels

From “Battlestar Galactica” Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore

Beverly Hills, Calif., August 8, 2013 Starz in association with Sony Pictures Television has announced today that Tobias Menzies (“Game of Thrones,” “Rome,” Casino Royale) will play the roles of both Frank Randall and Jonathan “Black Jack” Randall in the original series “Outlander.” The series adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling books by Ronald D. Moore (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation”) is set to premiere on STARZ in 2014.

Menzies will join Sam Heughan who was recently cast in the role of Jamie Fraser.

The “Outlander” series spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one epic tale. It follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Frank Randall is Claire's 20th century husband and a professional historian with a deep interest in the 18th century and his own genealogy.  Frank and Claire are reunited in 1945, after being separated by the war. They are rekindling their relationship when Claire suddenly disappears. Jonathan "Black Jack" Randall is Frank's ancestor from the 18th century.  A Captain in the English Army posted into Scotland during a time when rebellion was rife.  The nickname is no mistake, while Black Jack Randall may look striking similar, he is nothing like the gentle, bookish Frank; he is a dark, violent man who will take what he wants at any cost.

Menzies has recently been seen in HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” as the heir to House Tully of Riverrun, Edmure Tully. Internationally, he is best recognized for his role as Marcus Junios Brutus in HBO’s “Rome.” His extensive list of television credits include “The Deep,” “The Shadow Line,” “Eternal Law,” “Foyle’s War,” “Dr. Who: Cold War” and he is slated to play Nathaniel Bloom in the upcoming miniseries “The Honourable Woman.” Menzies scored a significant film role aside Dame Judy Dench in the 2006 reboot of the James Bond franchise, Casino Royale. On stage, he has played in productions including “The Hush” and “History Boys” for the National Theatre, “The Recruiting Officer” at the Donmar Warehouse, “The Children’s Hour” starring opposite Kiera Knightly and Elizabeth Moss, and in Michael Blakemore’s “Three Sisters,” which scored him a nomination for the prestigious Ian Charleson Award. He is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

Menzies is represented by Paradigm in the US and Conway Van Gelder Grant in the UK.

Diana Gabaldon’s seven-book series has sold more than 18 million copies and has graced the New York Times best-sellers list six times. The eighth installment of the “Outlander” series is slated to be released in the spring of 2014.

Ronald D. Moore and Jim Kohlberg are executive producers of “Outlander,” which is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Story Mining & Supply Company and Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures Television. The series will begin filming in Scotland this fall.

GISCHLER UNLEASHES CLOWN FATALE!
Cute! Carny! Contract Killers!

AUGUST 8, MILWAUKIE, OR—Dark Horse Comics is headed to the circus this fall with Victor Gischler’s latest wild ride: Clown Fatale!

Written by Victor Gischler (Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Spike—A Dark Place, Punisher MAX, X-Men) and drawn by Italian artist Maurizio Rosenzweig, with colors by Moreno Dinisio, Clown Fatale is darkly humorous and graphically violent, a vivid, stylish, cinematic tale of action and blood. The series will also feature covers by Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash, Ex Sanguine, The Occultist).

“I wanted to write a comic that was like the baby of Russ Meyer and Quentin Tarantino on whiskey and meth, and Dark Horse was cool enough to let me do it,” stated writer Victor Gischler. “I wanted something that was grindhouse but simultaneously a parody of grindhouse. Clown Fatale is the result, and Maurizio and Moreno are killing it with the visuals.”

In the world of circus folk, there’s nothing lower than a clown. So when the Femme Clowns are mistaken for contract killers, they abandon their shabby traveling circus for a world of violence and cruelty—with clown makeup.

“Tim’s covers also perfectly capture that grindhouse vibe. I’ve been having a great time pandering to my own base instincts. I think a lot of readers are going to file this one under guilty pleasure,” added Gischler.

Clown Fatale #1 is in comic shops everywhere November 13, 2013!

IMAGE COMICS GETS SEX-Y WITH FIRST TRADE PAPERBACK COLLECTION TO BE RELEASED IN NOVEMBER!

SEX VOL 1: THE SUMMER OF HARD, the first trade paperback collection of the hot new Image Comics series, releases this November. The book will be priced at $9.99 and contains the first eight issues of the controversial and acclaimed series.

Man of Action Studios' Joe Casey and artist Piotr Kowalski are the creators of the best-selling monthly series, which features retired superhero Simon Cooke and his pained attempts to re-acclimate to a normal, civilian lifestyle that he was never that good at to begin with. Of course, in Saturn City, nothing is "normal" and each month SEX delves into its psycho-erotic, urban underbelly — chock-full of former enemies and former allies — with unflinching abandon.

In reviewing the series, Comic Book Resources declared, "Joe Casey and Piotr Kowalski have created a stylish look at an often overlooked part of the superhero genre."

And from IGN.com: "This comic is a really great read, like the kind of stuff we used to get from Preacher, Y: The Last Man, and Transmetropolitian."

Regarding the first trade paperback, Casey said, "It's great to be able to offer this much content for just under ten bucks. This way, we can get even more people paying for even more SEX — and at an affordable price, too! Still not for the kids, though... but everyone of age who's tried SEX so far seems to like it. I know I do."

SEX VOL. 1: THE SUMMER OF HARD trade paperback is suggested for mature readers and will be in stores on November 27. It can be pre-ordered in the September issue of Previews (SEP130552).

About Charles Band & Full Moon Features
Charles Band founded MEDA Home Entertainment in the late 1970’s, one of the first independent video distribution operations in America.  With the foresight that home video was the future, a vision few others shared, he helped pave the way for the colossal home video boom to come. In the 1980’s, Band produced such hit cult favorites as Ghoulies, Re-Animator, The Dungeonmaster, Dolls, Troll, Robot Jox, and many more.

Band founded Full Moon Features in 1989 following the early 80’s success with Wizard Video, which released such cult classics as Zombie 2, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and I Spit on Your Grave on VHS.   Wizard video was celebrated for their shocking and incomparable box art, especially after their switch to the "big box" format.

Band soon teamed with Paramount Pictures and Pioneer Home Entertainment for direct-to-video releases on VHS and Laserdisc.  With upwards of twenty releases per year, Band has also built a reputation as a prolific and frequent director of entertaining low-budget genre films. In all, Band has produced almost three hundred features variously delving into the realms of horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and family films under its Moonbeam Films label.
The Puppet Master series is considered to be Band’s most celebrated and popular franchise. The latest installment, Puppet Master X: Axis Rising, is the 10th film of the most successful direct to video horror franchise of all time. Full Moon has created many other well-known franchises such as the Trancers series, starring Helen Hunt and Tim Thomerson, the Subspecies series shot on-location in Transylvania, Romania, as well asDollman, Demonic Toys, Killjoy and The Gingerdead Man (starring Gary Busey as a killer cookie!).  Full Moon’s recent releases include the Blaxploitation horror film Ooga Booga starring veteran actors Karen Black and Stacy Keach, the Blu-ray release of the critically acclaimed vampire series Subspecies, and two new grindhouse releases including Riot in a Women’s Prison and SS Hellcamp.
Full Moon titles can be found at all major video retailer outlets, Red Box, and Netflix. Full Moon films are distributed in North America on Pay Per View and Video on Demand, including Comcast, Time Warner, and AT&T U-Verse.  Full Moon movies are also available from sources as diverse as Walmart, Amazon, iTunes, Prescreen, and FlixFling. In addition to feature films, Full Moon is also very active in creating and marketing a wide variety of merchandise including original action figures, resin statues and 1:1 scale replicas of its better-known puppets and dolls.
