Steve Niles’ KHROME becomes a CITY OF DUST
May 1st, 2008, LOS ANGELES – Marc Patten of Destination Entertainment said, "Shortly after I began publicity for my new sci-fi fantasy adventure series entitled, Khrome with art by Marlin Shoop and Mark Sparacio, a fellow creator brought it to my attention that Radical Comics was producing a series with the same name. I contacted creator Steve Niles to see if we could work something out, and he couldn't have been nicer." Marc went to say, "they agreed to give me back the title Khrome leaving me free and clear to continue using the name I'd created over ten years ago. Radical is producing top quality comics that will put them on the entertainment map. I can't wait to read them."
Set in the not too distant future where imagination is discouraged and religion is outlawed, Radical Comics offers a preview of Steve Niles’ City of Dust in the Free Comic Book Day Imaginary #1. However, when folks open up Imaginary #1, they will see the book under its previous title, Khrome.
“The reason for the change is simple,” explains, Barry Levine, Radical’s President and Publisher. “Shortly after going to press, Steve Niles contacted me and informed me that someone named Marc Patten had developed his own, different project which also went by the name, Khrome. We both agreed in keeping Philip Khrome as the name for the main character, but would change the title to respect Marc’s work. When Steve came back to me with the new title, City of Dust, I immediately loved it. It fit the theme of the story perfectly.”
Steve Niles adds, "I strongly believe in creator rights, as does Radical, and when push came to shove doing the right thing outweighed anything else. As soon as I heard about the other book I phoned Dave and Barry and we all agreed to change the name. There was no hesitation and I knew I was working with good people."
Set for release in September, 2008 and to be listed in the July edition of Diamond Previews, City of Dust is written by Steve Niles with artwork by Zid of Imaginary Friends Studios and published by Radical Comics. The sci-fi series from the dark mind of the creator of 30 Days of Night comes a story set in the aftermath of our world's collapse. Records show the Earth once known was consumed by religious wars spurred by the suppression of free thought and where creative expression is now viewed as the rot and infestation of the mind. This chilling vision of the future unveils a world where the police now patrol for crimes of the imagination, or Mind Crimes as their called. Those beliefs, along with any tales of false heroes, idols or gods, are illegal. The world is anew and so the enemy adapts. Special detective Philip Khrome doesn't enforce Imagination, instead he works in homicide; that’s where the action is, and he has seen it all before. But criminals evolve and the world is forever changing. When a killing spree hits his department, Khrome finds himself face to face with a perpetrator who has merged reality with superstition. The world everyone is accustomed to is flipped upside down and everything is no longer what it seems.

ARTESIA NOW AVAILABLE ON WOWIO
Other ASP titles added all the time
Kearny, NJ -- May 1, 2008 -- Hot on the heels of the opening of ASP’s online store at Indie Press Revolution, ASP is proud to announce that single issues of its flagship title ARTESIA are now also available for free downloads at eBook store WOWIO. Other ASP titles will debut on WOWIO throughout the year.
From the very first issue of ARTESIA through to the last issue of ARTESIA AFIRE, you can read the book on your desktop or laptop at anytime, carrying with you the series called, “A triumph of richly woven plot…and all-out blood-letting” by Bill Baker, and “Strong, bold, hard, and passionate” by The Library Journal. Simply go to http://www.wowio.com/users/searchresults.asp?nPublisherId=189 and start reading.
“Trying to find new ways to bring our titles to as many people as possible is a constant challenge, particularly in the web environment,” said ARTESIA creator and ASP Publisher Mark Smylie. “We’ve watched as a number of indie publishers like ourselves have tried WOWIO and have heard nothing but good things from them, and so we’re going to see if we can help spread the word about some of our previously published titles by providing them to WOWIO’s many users, starting with ARTESIA.”
All ASP titles are available worldwide at finer comic book shops, bookstores, amazon.com, the ASP Store at Indie Press Revolution (www.indiepressrevolution.com) and electronically at DriveThruComics.com. ARTESIA is now available at WOWIO.com, with other ASP titles to follow.

Artesia: Adventures in The Known World, a roleplaying game written by Mark, expanded ASP into the world of gaming; the game won the Origins Award for Role-Playing Game of 2005. Now Mark and publishing partner Aki Liao have expanded ASP to include a line of idiosyncratic and creator-driven comic books and graphic novels in the fantasy, science fiction, and horror genres, as well as translations of several of Europe’s best titles. In the midst of all this, a group of students led by the honor student Kikuchi, becomes interested in the mystery of the academy and stays in school after sunset, only to be attacked and killed by zombie teachers. Kikuchi survives and tries to sue the school, but she is stopped by Yoshikuni and Nishiwaki and gets confined to the school grounds.

BOOM! STUDIOS AND JAMES L. WHITE ATTACH MEKHI PHIFER'S FACILITATOR FILMS TO ADAPT THE GRAPHIC NOVEL 'HUNTER'S MOON' AS A STARRING VEHICLE
April 28th, 2008 (Los Angeles, CA) -- BOOM! Studios and James L. White have attached Mekhi Phifer's Facilitator Films to adapt the graphic novel HUNTER'S MOON as a starring vehicle for the actor, it was announced today by Phifer and BOOM! Co-founders Andrew Cosby and Ross Richie. Phifer and his Facilitator Films partner Ronnie Warner will produce the film along with Cosby and Richie, via their Boom Entertainment banner.
The graphic novel was created and written by James L. White, scribe for the Oscar-winning film RAY. The story follows a single father who takes his teenage son into the woods for a weekend of bonding. When the son is kidnapped, the father is forced to do the bidding of the captors in a desperate bid to save his son. Thriller is seen in the vein of RANSOM.
The comic book has been nominated for "Story of the Year" and "Writer of the Year" by comic book honorarium The Glyph Awards. Currently James L. White is working on a project about the great blues legend Robert Johnson for HBO.
HUNTER'S MOON will be a follow-up to Facilitator's successful hit 2007 holiday feature THIS CHRISTMAS. The modestly-budgeted $13 million film, which starred Phifer and was produced by his company Facilitator Films, went on to make $50 million worldwide. Phifer continues to star in long-running mega-hit show ER, which is now entering its 15th and final season. Facilitator Films currently also has a deal with WATV for an upcoming series about cars and the celebrities who drive them. Details will be forthcoming.
The attachment of Phifer to HUNTER'S MOON follows on the heels of the recently announced acquisition of NORTH WIND by Davis Entertainment earlier this month. Cosby and Richie are producing the feature film versions of BOOM! series TAG and TALENT at Universal with Marc Platt. In addition, Paramount snatched up BOOM! comic book series THE FOUNDATION for Cosby and Richie to produce in a pre-emptive bid before publication of the comic book series. Producers recently sold the David DiGilio graphic novel NORTH WIND to John Davis. Ice Cube's CubeVision is adapting big-screen version of the BOOM! graphic novel 10 at Dimension as a starring vehicle for the actor. Cosby's hit TV series EUREKA enters its third year on the Sci-Fi Network soon.
BOOM! Studios is represented by Paradigm and managed by Pete Golden and Farley Zeigler at Golden Entertainment West. Mekhi Phifer is represented by Andrew Rogers at Paradigm and Steven Greener and Michael Baum at Handprint Entertainment. James L. White is repped by ICM.
The HUNTER'S MOON trade paperback (ISBN: 1934506222) features art by Dalibor Talajic and Sebastian Cardoso.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
29th April, Bristol UK - AAM Markosia are proud to announce that the entire first issue of new series Lazarus Immortal Coils will be available to preview at the Bristol Comic Expo, May 9th to 11th, 2008 (www.comicexpo.net).
Shipping to stores in June, and available to order now from Previews, # APR083485, Lazarus Immortal Coils is about the Biblical figure resurrected, discovers he’s an immortal, and demons are on earth plotting to take us over. Fuelled by revenge, Lazarus rushes headlong into a war against a legion of shape-shifting demons that are any and every monster and invading power throughout history.
“Lazarus is a fascinating character, “ says writer/creator Joseph Gauthier. “He’s this important, but largely forgotten person from the bible that people just seem to overlook. Here’s a man who was best friends with Jesus, resurrected only to see his friend killed days later. He died, went to hell, and came back. Sprinkle that with the question of his mortality, and how could someone not write about him? Lazarus: Immortal Coils is full of biblical events, but twisted in ways you wouldn’t expect.”
Lazarus Immortal Coils can be previewed online at http://www.10worldsstudio.com/Lazarus_Issue_1.pdf
Vincent S. Moore, columnist for www.comicswaitingroom.com and editor at Astounding and DarkStorm Studios comments: “Lazarus: Immortal Coils is a heady mix of Biblical history, kick-ass art, an eternal mission, revenge, great story, and demons in the guise of men, walking amongst us. Who would have thought that the perfect hero for the 21st Century would come from the 1st? Only Joseph P. Gauthier, one of the freshest voices to enter the comics game in a long time, that's who. Buy the book and get in on the ground floor of the career of the next superstar writer and the newest hero on the block.”
The Bristol International Comic Expo 2008 will be held over the weekend of 10th and 11th May 2008 at the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum and the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Bristol, England, with an early bird film night on Friday 9th May. Full details are available on the official website, www.comicexpo.net – including ticket ordering details, just £6 for adults for each day, accompanied children free, ages 12-16 just one pound.

'DRAFTED' ADS NEW ARTIST REBEKAH ISAACS
Devil's Due teams Isaacs with writer Mark Powers starting in May's 'Drafted' #7
Chicago, IL. (April 29, 2008) – Devil's Due's latest recruit in Drafted this May is a familiar face from the pages of Hack/Slash. Rebekah Isaacs takes over art duties on Mark Powers' epic sci-fi series beginning with Drafted #7.
"Drafted itself has been a like a dream job for me," Isaacs said. "I'm thrilled not only to see a truly epic, engaging new story enter the sci-fi genre, but especially to be a part of its creation."
A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Isaacs has worked previously on a Twilight Zone graphic novel in addition to her work on Hack/Slash. She takes over penciling duties from artist Chris Lie in a Drafted issue that sees the first act of Powers' saga reach a boiling point. In the wake of humanity's draft into an alien army, issue #7 will see some humans begin to rebel against the aliens who are trying to help them.
"To say I'm excited about collaborating with Rebekah is an understatement," said Powers. "Rebekah's strengths in portraying interpersonal moments and creating characters that truly act will allow us to dramatically depict the enormous personal and emotional costs being demanded of our cast as the scope of story expands."
Drafted #7 arrives in comic shops on May 14.

AAM/Markosia, publishers of The Flying Friar, King Kong, and the critically acclaimed The Boy Who Made Silence, announce "Triple Threat", the biggest event ever in the Starship Troopers ongoing series.
Three stories, linked over two parts by writer Cy Dethan, with guest writers Tony Lee (Doctor Who) and Christian Beranek (Willow Creek), and guest artists Neil Edwards, Scott James and Jim Boswell. It's the Vandals versus the Tigers in a race to save the federation against the Civilian Militia -- but who are the Reaper Cell and what is their connection to SICON?
Publisher Harry Markos, says "When Tony (Lee) came up with the idea for 'Triple Threat' the first thing that came to mind was 'well that's different!', but the more I thought about it the more excited I got about the idea of having three stories in one, especially with the three great teams that are working on it. We've made some great strides with Starship Troopers over the past year or so and 'Triple Threat' is a great way of bringing some of the previous units and characters back into the fold along with introducing some new characters that we will feature in the future. It promises to be an interesting journey!"
"When Harry asked me to come on board to co-write the story, my immediate answer was 'yes'," says Christian Beranek. "Now, I don't do a lot of licensed comics or work for hire books, but Starship Troopers is one of my favourite franchises. As was the case with writing the origin of John Doe for Se7en, I had a blast helping define a new element in the ST universe: the psychics! Expect some mental carnage, for sure."
Starship Troopers: Triple Threat runs in issues 9 and 10. The first part will be out in July, with the conclusion following in August.
Founded in 2005, AAM/Markosia is one of the leading independent publishers in the industry today. 2008 promises to be a banner year, as the company plans to launch several new titles, such as Lazarus: Immortal Coils, Eleventh Hour and N-Guard.

The comic is the story of a young teen with a super secret, and how he
and his friends face off against an ancient evil with the fate of
mankind on the line. Described by Sanchez as "the Goonies" meets

series. Penciled by up and coming new artist, Mathew Tow, the graphic
novel for Foxwood Falcons will be released in Fall '08; available
through Diamond Comic Distributors and at Wizard World conventions.
"I'm excited to be working with Tapestry Films," says Sanchez, the
publisher of After Hours Press. "Their enthusiasm for this project is
high, and what they plan to do should be really amazing."
Darren Sanchez has also written Celestial Alliance, J.A.A.T. (Joint
Armored Attack Team), and Impossible Tales. He is represented by Jodi
Reamer, of the Writer's House Literary Agency in NYC.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 25th, Bristol UK – There’s just two more weeks until the UK’s biggest comics convention at the British Empire & Commonwealth Exhibition Hall on 10th and 11th May 2008, and this week we showcase the final set of new books, offers and EXpo EXclusives on show, plus reveal details of the elusive Comics Village Fete, the event for kids of all ages.
The Bristol International Comic Expo website www.comicexpo.net has the full details of all guests and panels over the weekend. In addition, the Virtual Bristol Anthology continues to go from strength to strength with ever more content – http://virtualbristol.monkeyswithmachineguns.com - a chance for readers to preview some of the new books available at Bristol, and reserve a copy in advance or order a copy if you sadly can’t make it this time.
Clash of the Titans? Tony Lee vs Geek Syndicate!
In this one off and, potentially, explosive mix the boys of the Geek Syndicate podcast (www.geeksyndicate.co.uk) go head to head with the infamous Tony Lee (www.tonylee.co.uk) in a one off interview in which…
* There can be only one!
Place: Sunday May 11th at the Bristol Comic Expo.
* Note any similarity between the tagline found here and the tagline from the Highlander movies’ is purely coincidental (well kind of).
During their time doing the podcast the guys have interviewed Paul Cornell, Esad Ribic and Adi Granov, reported on several comic conventions and fought off three Skrull invasions (ok the last part was a lie, it was only one and at it was more of a punch up than an actual invasion). They have also (as far as they know) hosted the first live comic related podcast at the 2007 Birmingham International Comic Show. They were also nominated in the best entertainment podcast category in the 2007 podcast awards.
Dave and Barry will be at their table during the weekend so feel free to stop by, pick up a free promo CD of some sample episodes and have a chat with the guys about the show or podcasting in general.
Marc Ellerby will be exhibiting alongside Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie and John Cei Douglas, bringing along copies of his rock and roll romance book Love The Way You Love that he draws for Oni Press, and also a slew of mini comics including brand new releases, Ellerbisms and Speed Trail. These are autobiographical slice of life stuff and previews of which can be viewed at www.marcellerby.com
Ilya, the editor/manga wrangler of “The Mammoth Book of BEST NEW MANGA” (www.bestnewmanga.com) will bring the latest volume of this book to the show, along with various contributors to sketch and sign for readers - Fredrik Stromberg should be bringing Sofia Falkenhem from Sweden, various members of Sweatdrop, Sean Michael Wilson, and Yishan Li will be around all weekend too.
Sequential Media are presenting issue five of Crikey! Magazine (The Magazine of Great British Comics - http://www.crikeyuk.co.uk/index.html) as well as launching their brand new title, “Superspies and Secret Agents. Two further titles will also be announced, these are still being planned and titles to be determined.
Ablaze Media will have their new graphic novel, Peckerwood: 24 Minutes at the Bristol Expo, and will be launching a new weekly web comic called Planet Peckerwood. Tozzer / Peckerwood creators Rob and Pete will be signing their books, and entertaining the crowd with their mind-numbing anecdotes. There will also be a new range of hilarious, and possibly offensive merchandise, including "Terrorism Weapons And Tactics" mugs, prints, T-shirts and baseball caps.
The Midlands Comics Collective (MC2) will be premiering their new comic "A Legion of Stupid Heroes", 32 pages of all-new strips featuring irreverent and sometimes unexpected takes on the "guys in tights" genre. MC2 is a collective of professional, semi-professional and doing-it-for-a-lark comic artists and writers based in the Birmingham area. "A Legion of Stupid Heroes" , along with MC2's previous titles and lots of welcoming grins and/or tired smiles (depending on the time of day), will be on offer on the MC2 stand.
ImagineFX is the magazine for fantasy, sci-fi and comic artists – at their stand and they’ll teach the secrets of top digital artists… and will present live painting demos from: Liam Sharp (2000 AD and Mam Tor), Emma Vieceli (Sweatdrop Studios), Lee Carter (2000 AD), Dave Kendall (Wizards of the Coast), Jamie McKelvie (Suburban Glamour), Frazer Irving (2000 AD, Gutsville). The latest issue of ImagineFX will be available; this issue is a comic book special and comes with a free comiczine that’s packed full of the art from new breed of artists at Marvel, including a world-exclusive look at Adi Granov’s concept art on the Iron Man movie… and much, much more!
Velica (www.velica.co.uk), the exciting new super heroine for 2008, makes her long awaited debut at the Bristol Expo. Follow the first 4 nights of her role as a super hero as she battles cunning crime boss Domino and his right hand man, Syxx, as they try to continue their strong hold on Ashton City. Velica must get into his inner circle and stop him before it is too late. Ken Johnson, the creator of Velica, will be on hand to discuss this new character in greater detail and answer questions as well as fitting in few sketches in between chats.
Zip Gun Comics will present the latest issue of "Square Eyed Stories" (www.squareeyedstories.co.uk), the longest running small press humour comic in the UK. Over 10 years without stopping! They are hard at work on issue 21, featuring all the usual craziness from Jim McGee, Arthur Goodman and David Goodman. Also, the Banana of Space lands on a planet and the magic sun gives life to twins…The Banana Brothers! "The Banana Brothers" collects several strips, new and previously published, by Jim McGee: this book appears for the first time at the Bristol Expo. Finally, Zip Gun will also premiere "Bahala Na! 07" (www.bahala-na.co.uk), the annual collection of comic strips by David Goodman. No other comic can offer you juvenile delinquents, conspiracy theorists, galactic dictators, child entrepreneurs, ronin samurai and heaps of catgirls.
Galleon 43 also launches at the Bristol Expo, written by Lewis?!?! and illustrated by Jacob Phillips, it follows Chris Scullion as he is kidnapped by galactic pirates in the future. The book boasts a cover by Tim Perkins and an introduction by Bryan Talbot, and has a promo accessible here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eD-MrX6oiqU
Chris Scullion is put to work on a space craft upon capture, and is joined by two very mysterious characters, Martin Brady and Mike Clarke. Martin Brady is keeping an online journal while on board the Galleon 43 craft, and has made it available to people of all time periods: http://thebradyjournal.blogspot.com/
Illustrator Sally Jane Thompson will be bringing copies of Little Thoughts, a self-published comics collecting several short stories about fruit juice, funerals and friendship, as well as accessories from her new line of Koomos character merchandise. Keep an eye on her blog for pre-con updates (www.corvinecrayon.blogspot.com).
"Team Mobius" are back for their second year – they’re a loose collective of artists who just happen to know each other from Uni and clubbed together to have somewhere to keep their coats for the weekend - Chris Gould, Mathew Alan Smith, Zak Simmonds-Hurn, Andy Silver and Rob Garrett will be playing musical chairs behind the table over the two days, and waving mini comics and sketchbooks at anyone daft enough to show a passing interest - and with a bit of arm twisting (and shiny things) they can probably be persuaded to draw things live as they happen for anyone interested in some artwork
Underfire Comics are a small press publisher with a track record of consistantly high quality, with stories and art from creators like Nick Dyer and Al Ewing who have since found work with 2000AD as well as underground stars like Cosmo White and Dan Cox. Their newest release, Rock Night, is available at the Bristol Expo at a special price of £6, but is also available for those unable to make the Expo for this special price at the online Underfire Comics Shop – pre-ordering also nets purchasers a free set of six Rock Night art postcards (also available at the Bristol Expo). The shop can be visited at www.underfire-comics.com and is also stocked with the Underfire back catalogue, including the well received 5 issue run of Zarjaz edited by Colin Dinnie. Secure payment by credit/debit card or paypal account is offered, with free delivery for all orders over £10.
Comics Village Fete
As revealed by Andrew Luke earlier this week in his interview with Bristol Expo organiser Mike Allwood (http://comicsvillage.com/column.aspx?ArticleID=237) and as featured on the Comic Expo website (www.comicexpo.net), on the Saturday of the Expo there are a range of events specifically designed to get kids involved in comics, as part of the Comics Village Fete. Opening at noon on Saturday and running all afternoon, events inside the Fete are as follows:-
Free Face Painting - get yourself made up as your favourite superhero....
Stack O'Comics - free entry to this competition - guess the number of comics in the towering stack o'comics, and if you're closest by the closing time: you win the lot. Free sweet for every attempt!
Treasure Hunt - Hidden around the Expo, on various tables, are twelve Comics Village beanie baby bears...can you track them down and fill in an entry form? Multiple winners will be selected from the correct answers, and will be given their choice of prizes from hardback graphic novels, to t-shirts, to comics, to even more stuff, kindly donated by table holders at the Expo.
Design-A-Character Competition, sponsored by Diamond UK - put your creativity to the test: design a brand new character, or a new interpretation of an old favourite, colour in the template and have it pinned on the wall. The judges will pick their favourites and the winners can choose from a large selection of prizes kindly donated by Diamond UK. Colouring pencils and templates will be provided at the Fete, and prizes will be awarded in various age categories, so under 8s will have the same chance as 9-13s, as those slightly older people still in touch with their inner child!
Bric-A-Brac - a random selection of old comics and graphic novels available at rock bottom prices, the cupboards have been cleared out and the shelves are now bare. Superheroes, manga, SF, from hardcovers to paperbacks, it's a chance to sample something different, to try something new, for a low cost.
Please note that all events are primarily designed for the young, but the young-at-heart are more than welcome to give it a shot!
Next Time: The final wrap-up, with just a week to go, what’s new and just what are the BBC going to be doing at the Bristol Expo, and how can YOU get involved?

The Bristol International Comic Expo 2008 will be held over the weekend of 10th and 11th May 2008 at the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum and the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Bristol, England, with an early bird film night on Friday 9th May.
