Super
heroes are big business today. Any doubters can simply look at the film
industry where just 3 movies; Marvel's The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man,
and Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, each debuted in the #1 position the week of
their release and in total have cumulatively surpassed the $1 billion gross
ticket sales.
Comic
book folklore isn't only limited to the big screen, one of the hottest shows is
AMC's The Walking Dead, which is based on the comic series, whose #100 issue
sold nearly 400,000 copies, making it the best selling comic book of the
century.
Where
some thought comic book culture was once for nerds, now its part of the
mainstream pop culture of today where it's “chic to be geek”. San
Diego's Comic Con brings a sellout crowd of over 125,000 attendees
every year, which is explosive growth from its origins in the 1970's where less
than 1,000 showed up, and now brings in over $60 million in commerce to the
local San Diego
economy.
