Super heroes are big business today. Any doubters can simply look at the film industry where just 3 movies; Marvel's The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, each debuted in the #1 position the week of their release and in total have cumulatively surpassed the $1 billion gross ticket sales.

Comic book folklore isn't only limited to the big screen, one of the hottest shows is AMC's The Walking Dead, which is based on the comic series, whose #100 issue sold nearly 400,000 copies, making it the best selling comic book of the century.

Where some thought comic book culture was once for nerds, now its part of the mainstream pop culture of today where it's “chic to be geek”. San Diego's Comic Con brings a sellout crowd of over 125,000 attendees every year, which is explosive growth from its origins in the 1970's where less than 1,000 showed up, and now brings in over $60 million in commerce to the local San Diego economy.

Charles Lee, organizer of the Las Vegas Comic Expo stated, "Las Vegas has widely been known as an ideal destination for conventions. In speaking with comic book merchants and enthusiasts, there has been an appetite for such an event for a long time." This two-day event is a pop culture extravaganza touting scheduled appearances of more than 40 of the top names in comic books from the past and present.  This event is spread across 3 exhibit halls and will be jam packed with exhibitors buying, selling, and trading rare collectibles, enjoying gaming areas, costume contests, entertaining panel discussions, and much more.
The purpose of the Las Vegas Comic Expo is to unite the fans and the celebrities within the comic book hobby world together in a fun, family friendly setting.

REVIVAL KEEPS SALES ALIVE
Issue #3 sells out week of release, gets new printing along with #1 and #2

The third issue of the surprise smash hit, REVIVAL, has sold out the same day as its release and will go back to press. The second printing (AUG128229) will be in stores on October 24, the same day that REVIVAL #4 goes on sale. The third printing of REVIVAL #1 and the second printing of #2 have also sold out and will be reprinted as well (#1 fourth printing: AUG128227, #2 third printing: AUG128229), also with an October 24 in-store date.

A "rural noir" by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, with covers by Jenny Frison, REVIVAL explores the ramifications of the dead returning to life in a small Wisconsin town. Seemingly unchanged, the "revivers" return to their lives, but in time it becomes clear that something is missing from who they used to be. Police officer Dana Cypress is assigned to investigate the revival phenomenon, only to discover that it affects her more closely than she thought.

Along with in-a-flash sellouts, REVIVAL has been garnering wide praise for its nuanced take on death and horror.

"...are there any comics that can truly change comics as a whole? I hope so actually. I hope that someone reading [REVIVAL] is going to try and create their own story with multiple layers and parallel plot lines, with its mystery to rival Twin Peaks, but with the endgame of Lost. Maybe someone will read this review and have their eyes opened to all of the other elements in play that were sitting below the surface of the story staring them in the face."
    - Comic Bastards

"With Revival, Seeley is creating an understated psychological and supernatural horror, with genuine humour.... Mike Norton's art has an incredible range – contrast this with his other title It Girl and the Atomics and his webcomic Battlepug.... Having two contrasting styles, in keeping with the tone of two very divergent monthly books, is an incredible feat."
    - Geeks Unleashed

"While the comics market is flush with story lines centered on unsettled dead folks, writer Tim Seeley's Revival burrows deeply under your skin—even in its tranquil setting.... Revival's dread (as well as its occasional chilling gore) is inked to wondrous effect by Mike Norton, but Seeley's dialogue and relatable characters like single mother and police officer Dana Cypress present more of a draw than the blood and guts."
    - Pop Matters

"Revival is a very enjoyable and genuinely creepy series from two creators at the top of their game."
    - IGN

As noted in many of the reviews of REVIVAL, Seeley and Norton are prolific comics creators. In addition to REVIVAL, Seeley writes his Image series HACK/SLASH, a twist on the slasher genre in which a would-be victim instead hunts down serial killers, and Top Cow's flagship title WITCHBLADE. Eisner winner Norton has been charming readers with his art in the spin-off of Michael Allred's MADMAN, IT GIRL AND THE ATOMICS, also published by Image Comics.

Artsploitation Films Announces New Acquisitions
COMBAT GIRLS and VANISHING WAVES

Films Will Screen at Austin’s Fantastic Fest This Weekend
Both Set for 2013 Theatrical and DVD Releases

LOS ANGELES (September 21, 2012) – Artsploitation Films, founded earlier this year by TLA Entertainment Inc. president Raymond Murray, announces the acquisition of two new feature films, the German drama COMBAT GIRLS and the Lithuanian science fiction film VANISHING WAVES. Both films will screen this week at Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX. COMBAT GIRLS will screen from 2:30pm – 4:28pm on Friday, September 21 at the Alamo South Lamar – Theater 1 (1120 S Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78704) and VANISHING WAVES will screen on Sunday, September 23, 2012 11:45am – 2:04pm at Alamo South Lamar – Theater 3. Both films will see limited theatrical releases and full DVD releases complete with special features in 2013 courtesy of Artsploitation Films.

A major success in its native Germany earlier this year, COMBAT GIRLS is an uncompromising and powerful drama about two young women caught up in the disturbing rise of neo-Nazism in contemporary Europe. This gritty, violent, and intense teen saga is exciting filmmaking with direction, cinematography and certainly the lead performances of the two young actresses, firing on all cylinders. The story follows two young women in the world of right-wing neo-Nazi fascist youth in today’s German suburbs: 20-year-old Marisa is a hardcore believer, a semi-skinhead who’s been in the movement for years and whose body is adorned with Nazi tattoos, whereas 14-year-old Svenja is a naïve newcomer, a sheltered, spoiled, straight-A student who only becomes fascinated with the group because of her neo-Nazi boyfriend. They begin as attention-seeking adversaries but become best friends, though their loyalty is shaken when Marisa decides she wants to leave the movement behind, a decision helped by her unlikely friendship with a scared young Afghan boy whose brother she injured in a hate crime.
A multiple award winner – for director David Wnendt and actresses Alina Levshin and Jella Hasse – at the German Film Awards, the Bavarian Film Awards, and the Munich Film Festival, COMBAT GIRLS inspired Fantastic Fest programmer Rodney Perkins to state, “COMBAT GIRLS pulls no punches. The film submerges the audience in the underground world of skinheads and racist ideologues. This attention to authenticity is not done for the purpose of sensationalism, but to support the film's compelling story and complex characters. COMBAT GIRLS is a powerful nuanced work by a dynamic new voice in German cinema.” In his commentary on the film, Olivier van Blockstael – sales representative for the film’s German company East/West Distribution - said “We discovered COMBAT GIRLS just before Cannes 2011 and, although it was a first time director film, with a topic which at first sight could seem very specific to Germany, we saw a great international potential: at a time where nationalism is raising all over Europe we knew that the international audience would be interested, especially because it's the first film that approaches this topic through a female point of view. The incredible festival career of the film (with dozens of prestigious awards all over the world) and the number of territories where the film has been or will be released proved us right.” The film will continue to screen at festivals throughout the rest of the year, and then Artsploitation, owner of all North American rights, will give it a general theatrical release in early 2013.

The self-described “erotic science fiction” film VANISHING WAVES is nothing short of a genre masterpiece. The film will be having its American premiere at Fantastic Fest, and then Artsploitation Films – owner of U.S. rights – will be theatrically releasing it in the first quarter of 2013. A bold, visionary work of science fiction cinema that recalls the genre in its cerebral 1960s and 70s golden age, just as it simultaneously forges new territory with its unique fusion of emotional melodrama and hallucinatory widescreen spectacle, VANISHING WAVES is one of the most accomplished and distinctive European films in recent memory. The second solo feature from Lithuanian director Kristina Buozyte, following her acclaimed 2008 debut The Collectress (which will be included on Artsploitation’s Blu-ray release of this new film), VANISHING WAVES confirms Buozyte as a major young talent whose frequently breathtaking visual and technical gifts are thankfully also matched by her interest in complex characterizations, adventurous narratives, and challenging themes. Her new film is a science fiction romance that is equally occupied by the erotic as well as the fantastic. Lukas (Marius Jampolskis) is assisting a scientific research team by functioning as a patient in a series of heavily monitored (and medicated) sensory deprivation experiments wherein he is attempting to make some form of contact with the subject, Aurora (Jurga Jutaite), a young woman who has been locked in a comatose state for some time. Doctors initially hope for just a vague reaffirmation of consciousness, but the experiment takes an unexpected twist when Lukas and Aurora actually develop a strong psychic link in their mutually altered forms of consciousness…and their link quickly evolves into a romantic, sexually charged relationship. As Lukas hides this data from his researchers, he and Aurora meet secretly and passionately in a series of surreal dreamscapes created by their collective minds, but their union is tragically doomed to collapse around them. Exploring the tantalizing possibilities of forming a true, all-encompassing bond with one’s lover, VANISHING WAVES is hypnotic, erotic, wholly engrossing, and wildly thought-provoking cinema that transcends any perceived limitations of the science fiction genre, becoming one of the year’s most provocative films in the process.
Director Kristina Buozyte remarks, “Artsploitation is a gateway for provocative, challenging and outstanding films to the U.S. VANISHING WAVES is delighted to be the part of this exclusive and fast growing family.”Matteo Lovadina, the CEO of French sales agency Reel Suspects, said he “is thrilled about the theatrical release of his festival winner VANISHING WAVES by one of the most promising, edgy and high-profiled new distribution companies in the U.S. Artsploitation is the perfect American home for this powerful cinematic tale. Raymond Murray has shown a pure enthusiasm for this film since the first screening in Cannes.” And Fantastic Fest programmer Luke Mullen wrote “VANISHING WAVES is a powerful sci-fi drama, with roots in films like The Cell and Inception while also calling to mind elements of Almodovar's Talk to Her. The film features beautiful cinematography along with a fantastic score that perfectly underscore a great story. Modern, slick and stylish, VANISHING WAVES is an incredible cinematic journey that will draw you in and keep you wanting more.”

Seifert and Bond Board the TARDIS!
Top creators appear for guest stint on the DOCTOR WHO comics series!

San Diego, CA (September 21, 2012) – IDW Publishing is proud to announce that Brandon Seifert, co-creator of Image/Skybound’s hit Witch Doctor, will be teaming up with Tank Girl and Kill Your Boyfriend artist Philip Bond on issues #3 and 4 of the ongoing DOCTOR WHO comic book series!

"Taking over for series “showrunner” Andy Diggle--who will return for issue #5 and beyond--and Mark Buckingham, keen Who fans SEIFERT and BOND have brought a unique take and a mass of enthusiasm to the Eleventh Doctor’s adventures."
“This may sound like hyperbole, but Doctor Who is basically my favorite thing going on in pop culture right now,” says Seifert. “I’ve especially loved Steven Moffat’s take on the show, and I’m super excited for the opportunity to write for the comic series!”

Their special two-part story should be a delight to readers as we see just what kind of shenanigans are unleashed upon the galaxy when the Doctor and Rory go for a rowdy night out!

“We’ve structured the series with Andy as lead writer so that we can bring in creators for a brief visit to the TARDIS that otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity, and this is the first glimpse of that plan,” editor Denton J. Tipton said. “I’ve been looking to work with Brandon since reading Witch Doctor, and finally being able to land Philip Bond has me more than pleased. The story is a fun diversion from Andy’s sprawling epic, but keen readers will be able to see the links between them.”

Doctor Who #3 is 32 pages, full color, and will be in stores 11/14/12. Diamond Code: SEP12 0351
Doctor Who #4 is 32 pages, full color, and will be in stores 12/12/12. Diamond Code: OCT120350

Ryall and Kieth Take Readers to THE HOLLOWS!
This December, be sure to get a good perch!

San Diego, CA (September 20, 2012) – IDW is thrilled to announce THE HOLLOWS, a new, creator-owned miniseries from Chris Ryall (Zombies vs. Robots, KISS) and Sam Kieth (The MAXX, Arkham Asylum: Madness)!

To combat the catastrophic death of a decaying Japan, survivors create genetically engineered supertrees—wooden leviathans capable of supporting entire cities suspended above the radioactive wastes below. Traveling via jetpacks to stay above the toxic air below, the survivors must also band together against the Hollows, irradiated husks whose humanity has been supplanted by an unquenchable desire to consume human energy!

The Hollows began as a more straightforward tale,” said Chris Ryall, also IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief, “until Sam and I remembered that neither of us really tell straightforward tales. So the desolate setting for the story is really just the backdrop for a more personal tale of love, loss, redemption, faith, flight, and past versus future, all wrapped up and bound to the archaic flying suit of our protagonist, a beleaguered scientist/explorer named Kobayashi who ventures down from his city-state and finds something entirely unexpected. Along with a little scene- and heart-stealing creature called Urp, too.”

THE HOLLOWS is the premiere of a wildly original new world realized in the vivid, expressive tones that can only emanate from Sam Kieth’s hands. Planned for four issues, THE HOLLOWS has been in the works between Ryall and Kieth for some time now.

“Well for me it was started visually... it stops short of having the heart of a true fantasy story, stops just shy of steampunk. It's soft sci-fi at best, and the ghostly hollows provide a bit of horror too,” said Kieth. “Reading over Chris's wonderful script, The Hollows seems to floats effortlessly through all of these genres. Maybe a cross between City of Lost Children and Brazil; hard to pigeonhole.”

A unique, mysterious take on the post-apocalyptic yarn, THE HOLLOWS is sure to fly off the shelves like so many of its winged denizens, so don’t miss out this December!

THE HOLLOWS #1 (of 4) is 32 pages, full color, and will be in stores 12/19/12.
Diamond code: OCT120417

The sixteen-episode season is executive produced by Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Red State), Charlie Corwin’s Original Media (LA Ink, Storm Chasers, Swamp People) and Elyse Seiden (Red State). The season premiere of “Comic Book Men,” coincides with AMC’s annual blockbuster marathon of thriller and horror films, AMC Fearfest, which will be hosted this year by Smith.  Celebrating its 16th year, AMC Fearfest will feature 19 consecutive days of themed programming and more than 70 films, running from Saturday, October 13 through Wednesday, October 31.

+++TopWare shoots first space fighters into the night+++

Karlsruhe, Germany, September 20th 2012 – TopWare Interactive AG and Reality Pump Games have released the first batch of screenshots from Iron Sky: Invasion, the official game of the award-winning film Iron Sky.

The space combat sim allows players to shoot down fleet after fleet of Nazi space fighters attempting to invade our planet from the dark side of the Moon, and to stave off the “meteor blitzkrieg” they are using to attempt to bombard our planet into submission. The official “call to arms” has already been sounded on the game’s homepage. Also, any brave pilots in the community can meet up on Facebook to be informed about everything that is happening on the frontline.

As ships such as the Rheingold and Valkyri position themselves for the first attack, players must decide if they wish to fight off the invaders with the fast British Spitfire or the more heavily-armored but slow Japanese Banzai. All ship models have been taken straight from the movie. Each ship class has different advantages giving players the ability to adapt to every unexpected need that will arise doing battle in the Cold Above. Utilizing the game’s real-time star map, players can make tactical decisions about where to jump and which ship class to use for any given battle.

What is an Artist’s Edition? Artist’s Editions are printed the same size as the original art. While appearing to be in black & white, each page has been scanned in COLOR to mimic as closely as possible the experience of viewing the actual original art—for example, you are able to clearly see paste-overs, blue pencils in the art, editorial notes, art corrections. Each page is printed the same size as drawn, and the paper selected is as close as possible to the original art board.

Previous Artist’s Editions include DAVE STEVENS’ THE ROCKETEER: ARTIST’S EDITION and WALTER SIMONSON’S THE MIGHTY THOR: ARTIST’S EDITION, JOHN ROMITA’S THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: ARTIST’S EDITION, WALLY WOOD’S EC STORIES: THE ARTIST’S EDITION, SERGIO ARAGONES’ GROO THE WANDERER: ARTIST’S EDITION, AND DAVID MAZZUCCHELLI’S DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN ARTIST’S EDITION.  The ROCKETEER ARTIST’S EDITION won two Eisner Awards in 2011, for Best Archival Project and Best Design and THE MIGHTY THOR: ARTIST’S  EDITION won the 2012 Eisner Award for Best Archival Project.

LOS ANGELES - September 19, 2012 - Due to conflicting promotional obligations from added markets for Kevin Pereira's new Warner Bros. show, "Let's Ask America," the inaugural leetUP "Awesomesauce.Live" tour has been postponed. The interactive comedy variety show, which Complex Magazine dubbed "Kevin Pereira's Coachella for Nerds" was set to descend upon and ravage pop culture fanatics in 10 cities this fall, beginning September 20 in Seattle, with stops in Portland, Austin, Dallas, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Minneapolis, Madison, and Chicago. Pereira, who was to be joined on tour by a series of geeky celebs and interweb stars including Epic Meal Time, VJ Mike Relm and YouTube darling, Grace Helbig, assures fans efforts will be made to bring leetUP to a city near them as scheduling permits.

Said Pereira, "It was not an easy decision to postpone, but it's the right one. We know our fans deserve nothing short of an over-the-top spectacle and we will deliver when the time is right. We are sorry for any temporarily broken hearts. Email us at iamsad@leetup.com and we will get back to you with digital hugs and gratitude."
Promoters of the tour remain enthusiastic about leetUP "Awesomesauce.Live!" and are looking at dates to reschedule. "With the great success of the first leetUP in Los Angeles, we fully support and are looking forward to promoting dates in the future," said Lesley Olenik, Talent Buyer for Goldenvoice.

Ticketholders can get refunds at original point of purchase.

Fans are encouraged to visit www.leetup.com for more information and future dates.

leetUP was created in 2012 by the tour's host, Kevin Pereira, G4 Network founder, Charles Hirschhorn and creative collective iam8bit, as a way for nerds to come together to interactively celebrate all things geek in a high-energy, entertaining and innovative environment. The experimental pooling of their collective experience and tech "know-how" was a huge hit, delighting over 1,000 fans at Los Angeles' Club Nokia with the first-of-its kind experience to the world of the elite geek. Post-event, social media blew up with fan postings of photos and videos from the event, leading to demands across the country for leetUP to take the show on the road.
