ORDINARY LIVES, EXTRAORDINARY SETTING IN MULTIPLE WARHEADS
New Brandon Graham mini-series promises puns, peril, pleasures

Berkeley, CA - August 3, 2012 — Brandon Graham has been called "one of the great talents to emerge in the last ten years" by Warren Ellis. His stark, imaginative reboot of Rob Liefeld's PROPHET has garnered praise from all corners of the comic book world. PROPHET is drawn by a rotating cast of artists, but Graham got his start in comics drawing his own comic, the massive, pun-heavy KING CITY. Graham has returned to both the writing desk and the drawing table with MULTIPLE WARHEADS, a miniseries to be published by Image Comics in October.

Just as rife with wordplay and wild with futuristic details (Vat-grown radiation-sniffing squids! Self-heating root vegetables! Musical caffeine cigarettes! Organic, mobile palaces!) as the reader-beloved KING CITY, MULTIPLE WARHEADS is a project where Graham has let his mind wander the open road. At the same time, he keeps the lives of his characters, grounded with familiar sentiments and actions.

"I'm really interested in exploring a big fantasy Russia and letting myself wander off of the main path in a similar way to what I did in King City," said Graham, "But I want show the bizarre lives of a woman who smuggles magic organs and her werewolf mechanic boyfriend in a kind of matter-of-fact way."

Graham talked about MULTIPLE WARHEADS with Comic Book Resources in an August 1 interview.

The first issue of MULTIPLE WARHEADS, a four-issue, full-color mini-series, is 48 pages long. It will be available for pre-order in the August issue of Previews.

Virtual Kickoff Event & Kickstarter Announced for GaymerCon 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 31, 2012, SAN FRANCISCO, CA.

GaymerCon, the first ever gaming convention for the LGBT community, is set to take  place August 3-4, 2013 in San Francisco, with fundraising efforts for the event beginning on August 2 with a virtual launch event  and Kickstarter.  Organizers aim to create an inclusive space for under-represented groups in gaming culture and educate and inform the gaming community of the presence of sexuality in digital lives while promoting acceptance and social change through gaming.

“The goal of GaymerCon is to create a space where geek identified LGBT people can come together and build community” said Benjamin Williams, Director of PR for the Con. “With the recent reaction to same sex relationships in titles by EA Games and the Tropes Vs. Women Kickstarter, to current gay rights news, GaymerCon is more important and relevant than ever.”

Tonight, GaymerCon launches their Kickstarter through a Facebook launch Party at 6PM PST/9 PM EST using Shaker, a virtual world social app that recently won TechCrunch Disrupt and raised over $20M. The launch party will feature tech and geek celebrities like Zach Weiner (SMBC Comics), Alex Peake (Code Hero) and more. You can find the party at is.gd/GaymerCon.

GaymerCon has set its fundraising goal at $25,000 to make GaymerCon an event not to be missed on August 3 & 4, 2013 in San Francisco, California. The funds from the Kickstarter are intended to secure a downtown SF venue for the event to be hosted and offer more programming to meet demand. The more money raised, the bigger and more star studded the conference will be.

Gaymercon has garnered the support of an incredible network of highly visible organizations , including dot429, due to their shared goals of supporting the gay community.

“It is no secret that the LGBT community has been in the political and social spotlight in recent years. This is no different in the gaming and geek community.” Commented Matt Conn, Director of GaymerCon “Historically, there has been very little content with LGBT themes or options in video games and other geek media. We hope to show the world that that this audience not only exist, but is flourishing.“

VANQUISH INTERACTIVE UNLEASHES "TELIKOS PROTOCOL"
COMIC-CON AND KICKSTARTER FANS GET BEHIND GROUNDBREAKING DEBUT COMIC

Vanquish Interactive is the newly-launched publisher behind the cinematic-style graphic novel series "Telikos Protocol," an explosive science fiction action-adventure, set in a post-apocalyptic Earth in the midst of a disastrous first contact event.

Founded by Jay Douglas and Nav Gupta, Vanquish Interactive aims to deliver groundbreaking cinematic-quality Graphic Novels and Interactive Comic Books the likes of which have never seen before, driven to entertain thrill-seeking fans across the globe.  They delivered on that promise with their debut title, "Telikos Protocol," which utilized the combined power of Comic-Con and the increasingly popular Kickstarter to generate an unprecedented amount of support for a debut title.

Created by writer Peter Cooper and artist Adam Burn, "Telikos Protocol" launched simultaneously on Kickstarter and at Comic-Con, where Con-goers were able to meet the team behind Vanquish Interactive and pose for photos with helmets and prop rifles available as part of a free giveaway.  Within 24 hours, instant Con-buzz had taken hold and Kickstarter staff had named the project a Staff Pick, with pre-orders subsequently skyrocketing.

"We did not expect this kind of overnight success.  Our aim was simply to bring something new and exciting by merging the worlds of comics and video games.  Peter's thrill-ride writing style and Adam's mind-blowing art were a perfect fit for our introductory book, and we're exceedingly grateful at the overwhelming response and support." said Douglas.

Although based in Los Angeles, Vanquish has assembled an incredibly talented team from all across Europe, including their co-founder, Swedish visionary artist Andrée Wallin, whose illustrated book "Oblivion" inspired Universal's upcoming adaptation starring Tom Cruise with "Tron: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski.

Nav Gupta offered this teaser, "Up next, we'll soon be unveiling the world's first Comic3, which will be very different to Telikos but equally innovative in its own right.  Plus you might see a few secret celebrity tie-ins, so please stay tuned."

With 5 days left, and the fate of the world looming, go to Kickstarter and choose from a variety of cool value packs, each aptly named, such as the "E.D.G.E. Rapid Response" bundle or the "Future Citizen" bundle.  http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/vanquish-interactive/telikos-protocol-0

Beginning tomorrow, Vanquish will offer several giveaways on their site. Be sure to check out www.vanquish-interactive.com  and grab the free Telikos Protocol Prelude Issue, jump into the story, and be automatically entered to win an Airsoft-equipped Assault Rifle and military-grade Battalion Helmet.
FRANK MILLER’S COMIC MASTERPIECE IS NOW AN
ALL-NEW DC UNIVERSE ANIMATED ORIGINAL MOVIE
BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, PART 1
COMING SEPT. 25, 2012 FROM WARNER HOME VIDEO

RoboCop star Peter Weller leads Stellar Voice Cast as Batman
in Animated Blu-rayTM Combo Pack & DVD

BURBANK, CA (August 1, 2012) – Frank Miller’s landmark graphic novel
about fear, hope and redemption is celebrated with proper measures of
haunting visuals and intense action in Batman: The Dark Knight
Returns, Part 1, the next entry in the popular, ongoing series of DC
Universe Animated Original Movies. Produced by Warner Premiere, DC
Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation, the all-new, PG-13 rated
film arrives September 25, 2012 from Warner Home Video as a Blu-ray™
Combo Pack and DVD, On Demand and for Download. The Blu-ray™ Combo
Pack will include UltraViolet™.

The DC Universe Animated Original Movies have been a fan favorite
since debuting in 2007 with Superman Doomsday. Now averaging three
releases each year, the DCU animated films are based on classic tales
from DC Comics’ revered library or original stories featuring DC’s
fabled characters. Stars of feature film and primetime television
populate the stellar voice casts of the DCU animated films. Batman:
The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 represents the 15th film in the
ongoing series.

Fanboy demi-god Peter Weller (RoboCop) leads a stellar voice cast as
Bruce Wayne/Batman. Joining Weller behind the microphone is David
Selby (The Social Network, Dark Shadows) as Commissioner Gordon, Ariel
Winter (Modern Family) as Carrie/Robin, three-time DCU veteran Wade
Williams (Prison Break) as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, and Michael McKean
(This is Spinal Tap) as Dr. Bartholomew Wolper.

In the bleak and ominous future of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns,
Part 1, it’s been a decade since Bruce Wayne hung up his cape,
following most of the other superheroes who had been forced into
retirement. Facing the downside of middle age, a restless Bruce Wayne
pacifies his frustration with racecars and liquor – but the Bat still
beckons as he watches his city fall prey to gangs of barbaric
criminals known as The Mutants.

The return of Harvey Dent as Two-Face finally prompts Wayne to once
again don the Dark Knight’s cowl, and his dramatic capture of the
villain returns him to crime-fighting – simultaneously making him the
target of law enforcement and the new hope for a desolate Gotham City.
Particularly inspired is a teenage girl named Carrie, who adopts the
persona of Robin and ultimately saves Batman from a brutal attack by
the Mutant leader. Armed with a new sidekick, and re-energized with a
definitive purpose, the Dark Knight returns to protect Gotham from
foes new … and old.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 is directed by Jay Oliva (Man
of Steel, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights) from a screenplay by Bob
Goodman (Warehouse 13). Sam Register (Young Justice, Teen Titans, Ben
10) and Bruce Timm (Justice League: Doom) are the executive producers.
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 will provide the epic story’s
thrilling conclusion with its release in early 2013.

“Frank Miller’s classic re-imagining of Batman has been faithfully
recreated under Bruce Timm’s skilled guidance as a masterpiece of
storytelling,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Home Video Vice
President, Family & Animation Marketing and Partner Brands. “This
story has been treated with great reverence, including a tour-de-force
performance by science fiction legend Peter Weller as the voice of
Batman. We know our fans will not only love this film as a
stand-alone, but will clamor for the release of the second half next
year.”

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 Blu-ray™ Combo Pack has more
than 2 hours of exciting content, including:
• Standard and high definition versions of the feature film
• UltraViolet™*
• Sneak Peak at Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2, the next DC
Universe Animated Original Movie

Asylum Press Releases Trench Coats, Cigarettes and Shotguns as a “Digital First” Mini-Series

Aug. 2, 2012 – Los Angeles, CA – Asylum Press will publish Trench Coats, Cigarettes and Shotguns as a “digital first” 3-issue mini-series available on Comixology, Comics Plus, Graphicly and My Digital Comics. The series will also be collected into a stand alone eBook for the KindleFire, Nook, Kobo, and iBookstore.

The release dates for each issue of the comic book are:

Trench Coats, Cigarettes and Shotguns #1 – Aug 1, 2012
Trench Coats, Cigarettes and Shotguns #2 – Aug 8, 2012
Trench Coats, Cigarettes and Shotguns #3 – Aug 15, 2012

A free preview of
Trench Coats, Cigarettes and Shotguns can be seen at the Asylum Press website:

http://www.asylumpress.com/titles/trench-coats-cigarettes-and-shotguns

"I'm really excited to be working with Chuck Brown and Philipp Neundorf to publish this exciting, action-packed story," publisher Frank Forte says. "
Trench Coats has a dark storyline and twisted characters. It's exactly what Asylum Press wants to bring to the masses."

The story centers around a mysterious hitman named Trypp who only relies on three things – his trench coat, cigarettes and shotgun – as he navigates a dangerous world filled with mech-wielding gangsters, demonic Mafioso and demons that run wild on earth. A new kind of crime family that has emerged in New York City uses ancient satanic rituals to gain the speed, strength and other attributes of demons. When the mob murders Trypp's friend, he embraces the darkness in his soul, leaving a path of death and destruction to avenge her.

“Working with Philipp Neundorf was a writer’s dream," says writer Chuck Brown, "though we bumped heads now and again he was able to take the world of
Trench Coats, Cigarettes and Shotguns to new heights. Assembling this book took a lot of time and sleepless nights, but in the end I think we created something unique and special. Take away all the demons, death, magic and mayhem in the book and you’re left with a simple story about a grain of good trying to stay afloat in a sea of evil. Something I think a lot of people can relate to nowadays."

Artist Philipp Neundorf explains the creative process behind the book series, "Doing a full color page per day for around three months is an intense undertaking, even more so when collaborating with strong personalities like Chuck. Often enough we were crushing our heads like Trypp does to the demons in the book. However, after looking at the final pages, it was worth the fight. Doing comics that have to compete with the big-name titles out there in the market is tough."

Neal Adams
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND - August 2, 2012 -
The Baltimore Comic-Con is happy to announce the addition of artist and creator-rights advocate Neal Adams, along with sons Josh and Jason, to the growing line-up of this year's show. The 13th annual show will take place September 8-9, 2012 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Neil Adams' work on such DC Comics characters as Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and Green Arrow redefined an era of comics, bringing a photorealistic feel to the pages of their respective books.

In the late-'60s, while freelancing for DC Comics, Adams also began working at Marvel Comics on X-Men with Roy Thomas. He continued to work for DC and Marvel throughout the late-'60s and '70s, working on The Avengers, Detective Comics, and Green Lantern/Green Arrow.  Most recently, Adams wrapped up the 7-issue second volume of Batman: Odyssey for DC Comics, and is currently handling art duties on Marvel Comics' First X-Men, hitting stores this month.

Josh Adams
Josh Adams
In addition, Adams crusaded for years to secure pensions and recognition for Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, creators of Superman and, in 1978, he helped form the Comics Creators Guide. He was inducted into the Eisner Award's Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1998, and the Harvey Awards' Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1999.  In 2009, during the Harvey Awards at the Baltimore Comic-Con, Neal was presented with the Hero Initiative Humanitarian Award for his charitable work.

Josh Adams, the artist for IDW's Doctor Who series, has achieved notoriety on the Internet for his exquisitely designed Sherlock illustrations. He has worked throughout the industry for such companies as DC Comics (House of Mystery, JSA, Batman Odyssey) and Marvel Comics (Astonishing X-Men Motion Comic) as well as on Syfy shows like Eureka, Battlestar Galactica, Warehouse 13, and Alphas. His work can be found at his website, www.whatwouldjoshdo.com.

Jason Adams

A self-taught artist in sculpture and human anatomy, Jason Adams made a name for himself in the world of toy and fantasy sculpture. Working for world-renowned companies across the toy and comics fields, his professional catalog spans 20 years and his company, Spyda Creations, is his platform to create dynamic fine art sculpture.

IDW Publishing Launches Jinnrise in 2013

Jabal Entertainment’s virgin series rides international notoriety to 2013 release

[Jinnrise Cover Image]San Diego, CA (August 2, 2012) – After serving as the official branding of April’s first-ever Middle East Film and Comic-Con and premiering on comiXology (www.comixology.com), IDW Publishing is thrilled to announce the 2013 release of JINNRISE (www.jinnrise.com). Jabal Entertainment’s virgin comic series, JINNRISE has found a home with the industry’s fastest-growing publisher.

Combining the best of summer blockbuster fare with the weightier underpinnings of “quest myths” like Lord of the Rings, international student Andrew Marcus’ world is torn asunder when interstellar forces, the Kibrani, invade earth. With all hope seemingly lost, what is humanity’s last chance? A long-feared and forgotten race: the Jinn (otherwise known as “Genies”). Thus begins a quest that may answer the question: What is the nature of true power?

With sequential art/cover art, inks, and colors from three of 2011’s top Kubert School graduates (Tony Vassallo, Carli Ihde, and Timothy Yates, respectively) and incentive covers from Flag Studios founder Daxiong Guo (www.flagstudios.com), JINNRISE is further proof of IDW’s ongoing efforts to expand the creative landscape of the comic industry. JINNRISE also represents IDW’s commitment to homegrown and international comic book talent.

“I've long known Sohaib to be a clever, insightful guy in regards to pop-culture on his Fictional Frontiers radio show, and he's definitely proving that he can extend that inventiveness into graphic fiction as well,” said Chris Ryall, Chief Creative Officer of IDW Publishing and co-host of the bi-weekly segment “Ryalltime" on Fictional Frontiers. “JINNRISE has a very unique blend of old-world myths and modern-day fantasy and science fiction, and it's something I'm very happy to bring to IDW.”

“As evidenced by their catalog of titles and talents, IDW’s dominant trait is diversity in storytelling. For this reason, they were the ideal fit for our genre-blending story,” commented JINNRISE creator and founder of Jabal Entertainment, Sohaib Awan. “Rather than a modern retelling of ancient fables, JINNRISE is a completely fresh spin on a fantasy staple. Most importantly, our story demonstrates the inherent potential of humanity when myopic beliefs are abandoned by all sides.”

THE MIRROR REVEALS MORE THAN BEAUTY IN STAR BRIGHTNew storybook from Jonathan Luna in November

Berkeley, CA - August 1, 2012 — STAR BRIGHT AND THE LOOKING GLASS is Jonathan Luna's first solo creator-owned work after wrapping up THE SWORD (with brother Joshua Luna). In STAR BRIGHT, to be published in November by Image Comics, Luna departs from his superhero and science fiction comics, and works in the dreamy, fantasy-tinged aesthetic of his fine artwork to create a tale of beauty, vanity, and friendship.

"After the conclusion of The Sword, I took a two-year sabbatical, but I was always creating," said Luna of his break from comics. "I played with photography and film, and I learned how to paint with oil, acrylic, and watercolor. I finally decided I wanted to do a fairy-tale picture book."

The end result was STAR BRIGHT AND THE LOOKING GLASS, which tells the story of a wild young woman who discovers her own beauty when she finds a mirror in her forest home. The awakening of Star Bright's consciousness of her own loveliness also opens her heart to vanity. But when a wicked sorceress steals Star Bright's beauty Star Bright will learn from her woodland animal friends what the true virtues in life are.

"Everything I'm doing with Star Bright and the Looking Glass is so different from what I'm used to. It's my first time writing alone, and prose for that matter," said Luna.  "I can't really pinpoint what led me to do a fairy-tale picture book. There's definitely been a certain kind of imagery in my head that I've been dying to put on paper. I've been into pop surrealism for many years, so I wanted to incorporate that kind of art into my new work. I wanted it to be ethereal and a little dark."

Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson lauded Luna's dedication to growing as an artist.

"Jonathan Luna, along with his brother Joshua, have been doing amazing work at Image Comics for almost a decade now, but I'm still always amazed by their commitment to moving forward as artists and trying new things as storytellers," said Stephenson. "Jonathan's first solo project is wonderfully unique, and one of the most interesting projects he's brought to us yet."

Luna talked to Comic Book Resources about his new storybook on July 30.

STAR BRIGHT AND THE LOOKING GLASS is a 72-page 9 x 12" hardcover storybook with full-color artwork for all ages. It will be in stores in November and available for pre-order in the August issue of Previews.
