(Silver Spring, Md.) —After months of intense buzz and two blockbuster panels at both San Diego and New York Comic-Con, it’s finally time for the main event – FIREFLY: BROWNCOATS UNITE on November 11 at 10 PM (ET/PT), Science Channel reunites Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion and the entire renegade crew of the Serenity for the first time ever to provide the complete oral history on the franchise that continues to explode in popularity - despite meeting its end a decade ago.  The 60-minute special includes secrets from the set, exclusive cast interviews, and footage from this year’s colossal Comic-Con panel that dominated the pop culture conversation.  Joining Whedon and Fillion for FIREFLY: BROWNCOATS UNITE are Serenity crewmembers Sean Maher, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Morena Baccarin, Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres and Jewel Staite; along with executive producer Tim Minear and executive story editor Jose Molina.
This summer, FIREFLY creator Joss Whedon triumphantly exclaimed to a crowd of thousands at San Diego Comic-Con that “the story is alive.” Legions of fans across the world couldn’t agree more, proving that a series which is comprised of only 14 episodes had endured the test of time.  Guided by Entertainment Weekly senior writer Jeff Jensen, Science Channel re-created the set of the Serenity for this epic gathering capturing the insights and memories of space’s most-rebellious flight crew - including the moment they realized they were canceled and where they believe the FIREFLY universe could live next.
“When Science Channel began airing FIREFLY in 2011, we immediately realized that these fans are a subculture united by a unique and fanatical passion for the series,” says Debbie Adler Myers, general manager and executive vice president of Science Channel.  “Our goal is to present them the series they love - but in a totally new and surprising way.  Whether that’s through exploring the science behind the show or reuniting the entire cast for the first time, we want Science Channel to be the home for Browncoats everywhere.”
Science Channel’s FIREFLY Sunday extravaganza begins at 7AM ET/PT with an all-day marathon of the series.  Then, at 10PM ET/PT, the event Browncoats everywhere have been waiting for - FIREFLY: BROWNCOATS UNITE premieres on Science Channel.
FIREFLY the series is set in the year 2517, in a new star system and follows the adventures of the ragtag crew of Serenity, a "Firefly-class" spaceship. The ensemble cast depicts nine distinct characters who, have all banded together for very different reasons.  Led by Captain Mal Reynolds (Fillion), who fought on the losing side of a civil war, viewers engage with characters who, are now living on the outskirts of society,
FIREFLY: BROWNCOATS UNITE is produced by Science Channel.  Debbie Myers is general manager and executive vice president of Science Channel. Bernadette McDaid is vice president of production and Kaitlin McIntyre is producer for Science Channel.

IMAGE COMICS SERIES THE ACTIVITY BRINGS SPECIAL FORCES TO AMERICAN SOIL
"The Butterfly Effect" set in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Readers of the Image Comics series THE ACTIVITY, have seen Team Omaha conduct missions in locations as diverse and exotic as the Netherlands, Colombia, Afghanistan, and Thailand. But in THE ACTIVITY #11, Nathan Edmondson and Mitch Gerads take the elite black ops team to a place a bit more familiar: Minnesota.

In "The Butterfly Effect," the comic's first depiction of an operation on American soil, Team Omaha must find and disarm a bomb in Minneapolis, without letting the people of that city know they were ever in danger.

For writer Edmondson, the issue is a landmark.  "THE ACTIVITY makes landfall in the USA," he said. "This is a moment in our story we have reserved for a very particular moment— and as readers will discover, the gravity of the mission in Minneapolis will set the tone for events to come. Events that may reflect the real world and real events in ways disconcerting and dangerous for our operators."

Depicting the action on the streets of Minneapolis was no problem for artist Gerads, who lives in the City of Lakes." It's incredibly exciting for me to bring Team OMAHA to my hometown," said Gerads. "Minneapolis is rife with the opportunities of a good action thriller and this issue takes full advantage of that."

THE ACTIVITY #11 (SEP120486) will be in stores on January 2 and can be pre-ordered now from the September issue of Previews.

THE ACTIVITY explores hypothetical missions of the ultra-secret United States Army Special Operations unit the Intelligence Support Activity. To ensure the highest degree of accuracy and realism, both Edmondson and Gerads consult with United States' military special operatives and journalists who have been embedded with special ops teams. One of their consultants is Kevin Maurer, co-author of the bestseller No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden. The team also created a two-issue story "Goat Hunt" that ran in THE ACTIVITY #7 and #8 that was co-plotted by actual U.S. Navy SEALs.

THE SURVIVAL OF SPECIES IN RETROVIRUS
Graphic novel by Palmiotti and Gray plumbs prehistory in sci-fi thriller

Dr. Zoe Wallace, the protagonist of Jimmy Palmiotti's and Justin Gray's new graphic novella RETROVIRUS, is one of the best in the field of viral evolution, a brilliant young scientist who attracts the attention of one of the world's largest and most powerful bio-pharmaceutical corporations. Zoe doesn't usually use her expertise for profit, but when Bio-Pharm gives her the chance to research a prehistoric virus, she can't pass up the chance. However, once Zoe is in their Antarctic compound, face-to-face with a perfectly preserved Neanderthal, Bio-Pharm's secrets may ensure that she never sees the outside world again.

And Zoe has a secret of her own—one that turns her research from theoretical to deeply personal.

"The fun of working on a project like this is looking at the set-up from a point of view like our character Zoe and putting all the pieces, together with her along the way," said Palmiotti. "With every turn the story gets deeper and deeper and more out of control, and like most of the work Justin and I do together, the challenge is to always keep the characters grounded in the madness around them so the reader can relate to every twist and turn."

"I always feel the best fiction is propelled by themes, and with Retrovirus there are a number of personal themes that arose in and around the time we began working on this project," added Gray. "Zoe represents motherhood, survival, determination and our core humanity when presented with terrifying situations. We wanted not only to create a story full of big scary action, but also something people could relate to."

A science fiction thriller that reaches all the way back to human prehistory and pulls the struggle for existence into the twenty-first century, RETROVIRUS is written by the team that has brought the comics industry CREATOR-OWNED HEROES and QUEEN CRAB and carries on the legacy of comics great Tony DeZuniga with Jonah Hex. Gorgeously rendered by Norberto Fernandez (The Tattered Man) and featuring a cover by Amanda Connor, RETROVIRUS blends human drama with science fiction and action in a story that will make readers think about the survival of our species in a new—and frightening—light.

RETROVIRUS, a 72-page, full-color graphic novella, will be in stores on November 21 and is available now for pre-order.

On The 50th Anniversary Of James Bond
The Most Comprehensive Collection
Of Bond Movie Posters To Ever Reach
The Market Will Be Up For Auction
By Profiles In History

LOS ANGELES- Oct. 24 2012- Profiles in History, run by Joe Maddalena, is proud to announce that the most comprehensive collection of James Bond movie posters to ever reach the market will be a part of their December 15 & 16 Hollywood Auction in Los Angeles. Not only is  every title in this perennial and ever more popular series represented with an extensive range of the regular release posters, stills, and other ephemera (most rare enough in their own right), this collection also offers a number of truly scarce “holy grails” of James Bond poster collecting. The Bond poster collection is estimated to bring in over $200,000. Highlights are below.

A "Dr. No" Special Advance Silkscreen U.K. Double-Crown (20in x 30in) Poster from 1962. This poster is arguably the very first "James Bond/ 007" film poster to appear to the public. The poster is exceedingly rare, and without question a "holy grail" of film poster collecting. Very Fine on linen, with only minimal routine retouching. It is expected to fetch $3,000 - $5,000.

"From Russia With Love" World-Premiere Advance U.K. Quad (30in x 40in) Poster from 1963. The poster is a special advance Leicester Square world-premiere quad poster. It is quite possibly the rarest of all theatrical-release James Bond posters, with very few originally printed for the premiere screenings, and less than a handful believed extant. The artwork is done by by Renato Fratini. It is expected to fetch $10,000 - $15,000.

"Goldfinger" U.K. Advance Double-Crown (20in x 30in) Poster Style 'A' from 1964. This poster is considered one of the great rarities of James Bond poster collecting. It is expected to fetch $4,000 - $6,000.

"Goldfinger" U.K. Advance Double-Crown (20in x 30in) Poster Style 'B' from 1964. Like the style 'A' this is also considered one of the great rarities of James Bond poster collecting. It is expected to fetch $2,000 - $3,000.

"Thunderball" U.K. Quad (30in x 40in) Poster from 1965.  This is a 'Quad' poster, first issue with sea-foam green background (later printings exist with white background). Along with "From Russia With Love," this art illustration by Robert McGinnis is arguably the other most attractive and desirable for any of the U.K. poster designs. It is expected to fetch $4,000 - $6,000.

With well over 100 original posters and another 100+ stills, lobby cards, scripts, pressbooks and more, this offering vastly eclipses the 1998 Christie’s South Kensington “James Bond 007” sale. In the upcoming weeks, more James Bond memorabilia from this unbelievable collection will be detailed.
