DARK HORSE TO GIVE FIRST LOOK AT MASS EFFECT: EVOLUTION AT
COMIC-CON!
Dynamic creative team of Mac Walters, John Jackson Miller and Omar Francia return for a follow up to the massively successful first series
JULY 19, 2010, MILWAUKIE, OR– Following the incredible success of Dark Horse Comics’ Mass Effect: Redemption, the publisher will join forces again with BioWare, a studio of Electronic Arts Inc., for an all-new comic book series based on the blockbuster sci-fi action videogame Mass Effect 2 that sold two million copies in its first week and earned a 96% score on the industry-watched review aggregator Metacritic. Scheduled to launch on January 19, 2011, Mass Effect: Evolution will take fans to a new corner of the Mass Effect universe, shedding light for the first time on the origin of the Illusive Man and the founding of his black-ops outfit, Cerberus.
Mass Effect: Evolution reunites the creative team of Redemption with Mac Walters, Lead Writer of Mass Effect 2 and the upcoming Mass Effect 3, writing the story and bringing his unmatched understanding of Mass Effect’s characters to the comics. Walters is joined by John Jackson Miller (Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, The Invincible Iron Man), who scripts the series, and Omar Francia (Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2), who returns as artist. The team will be joined by Massimo Carnevale (Y: The Last Man, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), who provides stunning painted covers.
“It's exciting to be working once again with Dark Horse and the creative team from Redemption,” Walters said. “I really enjoyed taking this series in a darker, grittier direction—a fact that's reflected in Massimo's outstanding covers. I'm sure fans of the universe and comics alike will enjoy this new glimpse in to the Mass Effect universe!”
"Our first Mass Effect series exceeded all expectations,” Dark Horse Publisher Mike Richardson said. “We're very excited about continuing the adventures of these great characters and working with the great folks at EA."
The four-issue series offers the most revealing glimpse to date of humans’ first steps into the wider universe of Mass Effect. Opening in a time of war, Evolution introduces a younger and very different Illusive Man, fighting to maintain human autonomy from alien interference, a cause that takes him behind enemy lines and into conflict with some of Mass Effect’s most dangerous figures. His journey from dissident to power broker presents new insights into the Mass Effect saga for existing fans, while the focus on the earliest days of Cerberus provides a riveting story of action and intrigue for sci-fi readers of all stripes.
Dark Horse will be revealing more about the series and cover art from issue #1 at San Diego Comic-Con International. Comic-Con attendees should head to the “Video Game Comics—The Next Big Thing” panel on Thursday, July 22 at 1 p.m. in Room 5AB or the “Dark Horse Comics: Make Contact in 2010” panel on Friday, July 23 at 11:30 a.m. in Room 3 for more!

COMICS CREATOR & VIDEO GAME ART DIRECTOR
MAT BROOME TO ANNOUNCE
TWO NEW PROJECTS AT SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON
At the 2010 Comic-Con International in San Diego, comics creator and Sony Art Director Mat Broome will be on-hand to showcase the first glimpse at two new innovative projects. The first announcement is of a new creator-owned comic series, following in the footsteps of his last creator-owned series The End League with Rick Remender. Broome's second announcement will be of an innovative online start-up that will bring together the top creative minds of comics, video games, film, television and music. These two projects underscore a revitalized creative effort by Broome that has been years in the making.
"I've been absent from the San Diego Comic Convention for years since I published my own books with Saffire and Skinners," said Mat Broome," so it'll be a blast coming back to the con after publishing several games with a large company like Sony, and returning to comics with 3D knowledge, and a software developers experience. It's going to allow me to do creative things with my ideas, and new properties that I could have only dreamed of before and make them more accessible to a larger audience."
Broome leads a dual career, working as an Art Director at Sony Online Entertainment and as Visual Director for the DC Universe Online MMORPG while also illustrating such comic projects as The End League for Dark Horse and Marvel Comics' Legend of the Blue Marvel. Broome has a long history in the comics industry, having got his start working on Marvel's X-Force series before joining Jim Lee's Homage Studios and WildStorm Entertainment working on a variety of projects including his own series Defcon 4. With over twenty years spent in both the comic and video game industries, Broome has first-hand knowledge and front-line experience on the ins and outs of being successful.
"Over the past 25 years in entertainment, I've met and worked with an amazing group of creators, In Music, Gaming, Publishing and even Animation," Broome explained. "There's been no shortage of talented people all wanting to share and get involved in building relationships with other professionals. Launching my own start up gives me the opportunity to "give back" to as many as possible and help grow the business to others who aren't in and around Los Angeles."
Mat Broome will be on-hand during San Diego Comic-Con at Booth #2002, showcasing both projects for both fans and industry colleagues.

Robert Kirkman Announces SKYBOUND
New division of Image Comics will focus on cultivating young talents in emerging comic book genres
Los Angeles, CA (July 19th 2010) – Robert Kirkman announced today that he is launching and will helm SKYBOUND, a new division of Image Comics. The company will give a new generation of comic book artists and creators the opportunity to publish their works as SKYBOUND Originals.
With SKYBOUND, Kirkman will handpick up-and-coming creators and maintain an active role in promoting and expanding the projects of the growing talent pool. Artist and company alike will be fully vested in the development of their properties into new mediums (e.g. television, film) globally.
Image Comics, the publishing company that has published Kirkman’s original works (including the New York Times bestselling series The Walking Dead and Invincible), will provide publishing and distribution support to SKYBOUND. Kirkman will continue his duties as Partner at Image Comics, and use the SKYBOUND imprint to release his own titles as well as every Skybound Original to follow.
Robert Kirkman plans to preview the first SKYBOUND Original, Witch Doctor, during his spotlight panel at San Diego Comic-Con this Thursday. ”Witch Doctor is a perfect example of the material we’re looking to cultivate with SKYBOUND,” says Kirkman, citing the comic’s unique vision of a “sick world” where mythical creatures interfere with the natural order.
Kirkman himself found the creators of Witch Doctor online, and will continue to play a personal role in the ongoing search for a constant stream of new talent to sign under the SKYBOUND umbrella. SKYBOUND will focus on cutting-edge, creator-owned stories that are outside of the normal spectrum of mass-market genres.
Looking forward, Kirkman has recently secured the second exclusive SKYBOUND Original, Thief of Thieves, a collaboration between Kirkman and Forgetless writer Nick Spencer. Thief of Thieves tells the story of Conrad Paulson, the world's greatest thief, who has set his sights on his own kind. He vows to steal only what's already been stolen, in an effort to right the great wrongs of his life. But he may be too late for redemption.
Witch Doctor will hit shelves at the beginning of 2011 and Thief of Thieves will follow shortly thereafter. Kirkman has several other SKYBOUND Originals in the works but plans to focus on quality and the company will take its time to find unique projects that reflect SKYBOUND’s core ideals. For more on SKYBOUND please visit www.SkyboundEnt.com.

VIKING WARRIOR PRESS ANNOUNCES THE PREMIER OF "THE RECONCILERS" GRAPHIC NOVEL FROM COMICS LEGEND NEAL ADAMS, MULTI-AWARD WINNING WRITER/ACTOR ERIK JENSEN and TWO-TIME EISNER NOMINEE SHEPHERD HENDRIX AT COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL in SAN DIEGO July 22, 2010.
Thrilling, provocative, and timely, THE RECONCILERS from comics legend Neal Adams, acclaimed artist Shepherd Hendrix, award winning writer/co-creator Erik Jensen, and co-creators R. Emery Bright and Jens Pil Pilegaard, is a graphic novel of epic adventure, with a compelling visual style, and uncanny topical punch.
It is 2165. The world has entered a new dark age as ordinary people scratch out a living in the squalid ruins of their grandparents’ civilizations. The concept of nationhood is dead. Mega-Corps rule all aspects of life, and maintain control by mining and selling the only energy source left – “Liberty Ore,” a rare and mysterious blue-green substance buried beneath the Moon’s surface.
After a protracted and crippling war between Mega-Corporations, EXECUTIVE OUTCOME (EO), a powerful, enigmatic security organization declares military conflict illegal. Pursuant to EO’s Book of Outcomes, disputes between corporations may only be resolved through Reconciliation – bloody, globally televised trial-by-combat spectacles designed to enthrall and pacify the masses. The “best of the best” of these professional killing teams is owned by one MAXIMILLIAN SOKOR, professional despot, hero of the Holy Outcome, and Executive Chairman of the largest of the Major Corporations.
But when SEAN HEXHAMMER, a working class “ore-jockey” for a small-time wildcat mining outfit discovers the largest Liberty Ore deposit known to man; his actions shake the tenuous order of the world and bring the tormented past Hexhammer had buried roaring to the surface. Hexhammer is forced to return to the violent life he abandoned and assemble an unlikely team of Reconcilers to fight for the future.
It’s Pale Rider meets Blade Runner; if “Pale Rider” had been set in a dystopian 23rd Century it would probably look a little something like “The Reconcilers”.
Guided by comics legend Neal Adams, the graphic novel’s creative team is comprised of notable up-and-comers in the comics and entertainment industry: multi-award winning writer/actor Erik Jensen, Two-time Eisner nominated artist Shepherd Hendrix, award winning writer-director Jens Pil Pilegaard and actor-writer-producer R. Emery Bright.
The graphic novel’s heart lies in the diversity of all of the “Vikings and Warriors” involved in the project. The company is ethnically, culturally and spiritually varied, with associates hailing from various part of the globe – Liberia, Denmark, Turkey, Central America, and the Islands of Cuba, Manhattan and California.
Viking Warrior is donating a portion of the profits from book sales at Comic-Con to victims of the Gulf oil spill. The graphic novel which retails at $14.99 is currently available for pre-order on Amazon or via Pay Pal at www.TheReconcilers.com. The book is expected in stores this Fall.

Scott Pilgrim Vol. 6: Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour
By Bryan Lee O'Malley
*Every copy purchased at the show comes with your choice of a Scott Pilgrim or Ramona Flowers wristband (also available for purchase at booth while supplies last).*
It's finally here! Six years and almost one-thousand pages have all led to this epic finale! With six of Ramona's seven evil exes dispatched, it should be time for Scott Pilgrim to face Gideon Graves, the biggest and baddest of her former beaus. But didn't Ramona take off at the end of Book 5? Shouldn't that let Scott off the hook? Maybe it should, maybe it shouldn't, but one thing is for certain — all of this has been building to Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour!
“Scott Pilgrim is the best book ever. It is the chronicle of our time. With Kung Fu, so, Yeah: perfect.” -Joss Whedon
The Sixth Gun #1 & #2
By Cullen Bunn & Brian Hurtt
*Every pair of comics purchased at the show comes with a limited edition signing card (while supplies last)*
During the darkest days of the Civil War, wicked cutthroats came into possession of six pistols of otherworldly power. In time, the Sixth Gun—the most dangerous of the weapons—vanished. When the gun surfaces in the hands of an innocent girl, dark forces reawaken. Vile men thought long dead set their sights on retrieving the gun and killing the girl. Only Drake Sinclair, a gunfighter with a shadowy past, stands in their way.
"More mystery and wonder and adventure in the first six pages than some comics have in their whole lives. Say hello to your new favorite comic." -Matt Fraction
Super Pro K.O.! Vol. 1
By Jarrett Williams
*Come to a Jarrett Williams signing on Saturday 7/24 and compete for the SPKO World Champion Belt of Comic-Con 2010*
Joe Somiano is late to his first match in Super Pro K.O.!, and has no clue what awaits him in the rowdy ring! A seasoned sumo wrestler, a jolly luchador, a flamboyant tag team, suspicious executives, and a drunken Heavyweight Champion all stand between him and the super-stardom that is his destiny. If the huge egos, clothesline take-downs, and broken chairs across the head don’t squash Joe’s dreams, he may just come out on top. But if he's going to take home the champion's belt, he'll need to bring his best moves against the likes of S.P.K.O.! stars Tomahawk Slamson, Yoko No-No, Mr. Awesomeness 2, and many more in this grand slamma jamma event of a graphic novel!
“Jarrett Williams is a towering inferno of comics. Get in on the ground floor... so you can watch him burn down and then explode! And you'll die horribly in the process!” -Bryan Lee O'Malley

Tiny Media Empire and three powerhouse artists have each lent their style to one of the bands in the Scott Pilgrim series. Kevin Tong, best know for his gig poster work with Sonic Youth, Weezer, and Wilco, took on the Scott Pilgrim series' quintessential band Sex Bob-omb. Daniel Danger, founder of Tiny Media Empire, put together a legendary video game reference masterpiece for his Clash At Demonhead gig poster. Underground comics favorite, Hellen Jo, used her trademark vibrant style for the quirky Crash & The Boys. And gig poster pros, Aesthetic Apparatus, have created an iconic gem for Scott Pilgrim's high school band Kid Chameleon.
Each of the four silkscreened, four-color, 18" x 24" posters is numbered and collected into a set and 200 sets will be sold at the Oni Press Booth (#1833) during San Diego Comic Con for $120 each. Ape Entertainment Presents Kizoic Art Exhibit
Events scheduled at The New Children’s Museum as part of Comic-Con
July 17, 2010: As part of its San Diego Comic-Con festivities, Ape Entertainment will be holding a comic book art exhibit at The New Children’s Museum that will feature original sequential pages from some of Kizoic’s most popular titles, including Shrek, Penguins of Madagascar, Little Green Men, and more.
The exhibit will run from July 19th through the 25th.
“It’s exciting for kids to learn about the process of making a comic book, and seeing the original art from some of their favorite titles is a moment that they’ll remember into adulthood,” states Ape Entertainment founder and co-publisher Brent E. Erwin. “And to be able to meet some of the artists responsible for the work is just icing on the cake.”
Artists Christine Larsen (Shrek) and Ray Height (R.P.M.) will be on hand to showcase their art and will lead a series of workshops aimed at teaching interested students the process of drawing their favorite comic book characters. The workshops will be held Thursday, Friday, and Sunday from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM.
“The kids who pick up a pencil today and sketch a super hero for the first time could very well be the superstar artists of tomorrow,” continues Erwin.
The KiZoic Art Exhibit is free to all SDCC pass holders. Families who attend will also receive complimentary Ape Entertainment comic books.
The New Children’s Museum is located at 200 West Island Avenue, San Diego, CA.
For more information on Ape Entertainment, visit www.ape-entertainment.com.
