THE FIFTH BEATLE TO BE PUBLISHED
IN THREE STUNNING EDITIONS!
“If anyone was the Fifth Beatle, it was Brian.”—Paul McCartney

MAY 31, MILWAUKIE, OR—Ever since its announcement last fall, there has been buzz about THE FIFTH BEATLE. Written by multiple Tony Award–winning producer Vivek J. Tiwary (Green Day’s American Idiot, The Addams Family, Mel Brooks’s The Producers), The Fifth Beatle, chronicling the life of the Beatles’ manager, Brian Epstein, will officially be released on November 19.

The Fifth Beatle, from M Press Books, a division of Dark Horse Comics, recounts the untold true story of Brian Epstein, the visionary manager who discovered and guided the Beatles to unprecedented international stardom—yet died painfully lonely at the young age of thirty-two. More than merely the story of “The Man Who Made the Beatles,” The Fifth Beatle is an uplifting, tragic, and ultimately inspirational human story about the desire to leave behind a legacy, amidst the struggle to overcome crushing personal obstacles and insurmountable odds.

This marks the first full-length graphic novel painted by fanboy favorite Andrew C. Robinson (Dusty Star, King Conan, Starman, Superman). The book also features a special section paying homage to the 1960s Beatles cartoons, lovingly drawn by multiple Eisner and Harvey Award–winning cartoonist Kyle Baker (Why I Hate Saturn, Plastic Man, Nat Turner).

“Telling the Brian Epstein story is a true labor of love. The Fifth Beatle really is my life’s work—as I’ve been researching Brian’s life for more than half my own,” says Tiwary. “So it’s with great excitement and anticipation that I can finally share this little-known story about one of the great architects of modern pop culture with the rest of the world.”

Vivek J. Tiwary is also set to write and produce a feature-film adaptation of his graphic novel. Tiwary has signed a deal with Sony/ATV (who control the Lennon/McCartney music catalog) which gives him unprecedented access to Beatles songs for the film.

The standard hardcover edition will be available for $19.99 in an oversized library format. A collector’s-edition hardcover of this groundbreaking graphic novel will also be available, featuring a wraparound, textured cover and a section of bonus materials including Beatles and Brian Epstein memorabilia, artist sketches, and alternate covers, for $49.99.
The limited edition (1,500 copies) features a tip-in sheet signed by creators Vivek J. Tiwary, Andrew C. Robinson, and Kyle Baker, along with a twenty-four-page bonus section including rare Beatles and Brian Epstein memorabilia and behind-the-scenes sketches, a unique, textured cover, and a special slipcase, for $99.99.
Tiwary will be signing limited prints of The Fifth Beatle at BookExpo America in New York City this Saturday, June 8th at the Dark Horse booth #1003 at 11 a.m.

Additionally both Tiwary and artist Andrew Robinson will be delivering a panel presentation at HeroesCon in Charlotte, NC on June 9th titled:
Comics of the Fab Four: The Fifth Beatle and Beyond. The panel begins promptly at 11:30 a.m.
“The Beatles will be bigger than Elvis!”—Brian Epstein, 1961

Tiwary is represented by David Alpert and Lawrence Mattis at Circle of Confusion.

Once and Future Finally Meet
in Series Finale of MERLIN

‘The Diamond of the Day, Part 2’ debuts Friday, May 31, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy,
capping five seasons of popular adventure series

‘Merlin is hope,’ says actor Colin Morgan

Magic is forever … but MERLIN comes to an enthralling end after five triumphant seasons when its final episode, “The Diamond of the Day, Part 2,” premieres this Friday, May 31, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Syfy.

As “The Diamond of the Day” begins, a great battle rages on Camlann's mighty plain. Merlin must face his moment of destiny: Can he find the strength to save the man he made a King, the Camelot they fought to build, and the brotherhood they shared?

Just as fantasy formed the basis of all 65 episodes, Colin Morgan has been the series’ constant heart as its titular warlock. (Despite many erroneous reports, Merlin is actually not a wizard.)

From his initial days as a naïve apprentice striving to understand and master his powers to the full-fledge greatest warlock to ever live, Merlin has grown before viewers’ eyes – as has Morgan in bringing the character to life.

“It’s been a great adventure, and I’ve learned so much,” Morgan says. “When we started, everything was new. It was my first real role, so everything seemed like a new experience: new lessons, new friends, new adventures. It wasn’t just Merlin coming into his own; I was growing up in front of the camera, too.”

There are a lot of parallels for the character and the show. As Merlin matured, so did the storylines. The darker, more adult stories went hand-in-hand with Merlin’s life lessons. No matter the peril, Merlin was the optimistic compass for the series.

“Merlin is hope,” says Morgan. “He’s the optimist in the story, the believer that there is a positive destiny for Arthur and Camelot. He knows it in his heart, and nothing will change that belief. He knows they can overcome the impossible, and Merlin faces a lot of impossible situations. That stays true to the very end.”

And the end is what viewers around the globe have been discussing. The final scene of the series was met with great intrigue in its initial airing in the U.K., staying faithful to the MERLIN tradition of unconventional telling in regard to the “once and future king” legend.

“There were surprises along the way” admits Morgan. “Our producers took a well-known, loved legend and told the story as they wanted to tell it, right down to the final shot of the final episode. They surprised me with that script – in a good way. It’s exactly the way it should be. I think the fans will treasure the ending.”

As producers/creators Johnny Capps and Julian Jones have stated, five was always the magic number of seasons for MERLIN.

“I really believe the show progressed quite naturally through its five years and really grew to a point where the fifth season was our best,” Morgan says. “It’s a very strong ending: powerful, emotional, fulfilling. I think fans will be very satisfied.”

Bid farewell to five wonderful seasons of MERLIN this Friday, May 31 at 10 p.m. ET/PT when “The Diamond of the Day, Part 2” debuts only on Syfy.

All five seasons of MERLIN are now available on DVD, Blu-ray and on iTunes, and seasons 1 through 4 are available on Netflix. Be sure to follow the latest news on MERLIN at the Official Merlin page on Facebook.

The success of that line was followed up with a collection for the Syfy network including such shows as Battlestar Galactica and with BBC America for Doctor Who and with CBS Consumer Products for Star Trek. You can learn more about Her Universe and purchase the current line of fangirl apparel and accessories by going to www.heruniverse.com and by following Eckstein on Facebook (facebook.com/HerUniverse) and Twitter (twitter.com/HerUniverse).

THE SLACKER SUPERHERO SELLS OUT

THE BOUNCE #1 gets second printing

The first issue of Joe Casey's and David Messina's new series THE BOUNCE has sold out the same week of its release and will receive a second printing, to be in stores on June 26. THE BOUNCE is a comic about a new kind of superhero, infused with a psychedelic sensibility and definite sense of fun.

"All of us working on THE BOUNCE are more than gratified that people seem to give a damn," said writer and co-creator Casey. "The first issue is just the beginning, though. Stick around and you won't be sorry.  Meanwhile, there's no better feeling in the world than selling out at Image Comics!"

THE BOUNCE #1 has been received with critical success:

"Casey and Messina have delivered a far more honest kind of superhero, and it's a welcome change of pace."

"...off to a strong start with fantastic art and enough zany ideas to make Stan Lee jealous."

"Casey has revitalized superhero comics in The Bounce #1."

The second printing of THE BOUNCE #1 is available for pre-order now (Diamond code APR138113) and will be in stores the same day as the second issue, June 26. THE BOUNCE #2 will feature a special variant cover by Sara Pichelli.

THE BOUNCE follows on the heels of Joe Casey's hit new series SEX (drawn by Piotr Kowalksi), which has had multiple sell-outs and reprints of its first two issues.

Casey is part of of the creative studio Man of Action.

About Man of Action Studios
Man of Action Studios, the bi-coastal entertainment company started in 2000, created the megahit Ben 10, a three billion dollar boys' action empire that has been called the most successful superhero launch of the past three decades and a hit across every platform making it the ultimate transmedia success story. Man of Action Studios consists of creators and acclaimed comic book writers Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle. The quartet collectively worked on the largest franchise characters in comics from Superman to X-Men before refocusing on creating worlds/characters for their own original comic books and graphic novels published through their Man of Action imprint at Image Comics. They also created cult favorite series Generator Rex for Cartoon Network and are co-executive producers and writers for Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man on Disney XD, the network's #1 rated animated show. In May, Disney XD previews Marvel's Avengers Assemble, debuting this July, so they again called upon Man of Action Studios as the writers and executive producers for their biggest launch yet. Man of Action Studios are also executive producers on the new international Gormiti series as well as their upcoming original animated series, The 7Cs, produced by Sam-Zag. Beyond the world of animation, Man of Action Studios has created wildly successful video games, toy lines, comic books, stage productions, as well as forthcoming feature films and live action television shows, some of which are based on their own created and written comic book series and original graphic novels. Upcoming films based upon Man of Action creations include New Line's The Great Unknown based upon Rouleau's comic book series, and Big Hero 6, created by Rouleau and Seagle, announced as Disney's first animated feature based on a Marvel property. Man of Action Studios is a creative collective that generates and adapts ideas into the highest-rated television shows and best-selling merchandise in the US and internationally. A large contingent of international content creators also seek the MOA expertise to bridge the culture gap on projects ranging from SpinMaster's highly successful Bakugan franchise to Nickelodeon's new series, Monsuno. Man of Action Studios has been called "The Beatles of boys' action projects… minus the internal strife."
