TOMASI & BERTRAM INVITE YOU TO THE 'HOUSE OF PENANCE'

A story about guilt, ghosts, and guns!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MILWAUKIE, OR—This spring, Dark Horse Comics is set to publish a historical tale of horror from New York Times best-selling author Peter Tomasi (Batman and Robin, Green Lantern) and artist Ian Bertram (Bowery Boys).
House of Penance is a horrific take on the true story of the Winchester haunted house and one woman’s mission to wash away the blood curse of the Winchester rifle that threatens to claim her own life and soul.
The Winchester house is famous for its original owner’s bizarre compulsion to incorporate in it a multitude of architectural curiosities. But as the bereaved Sarah Winchester’s workers toil on stairways to nothing and doors to nowhere, a mysterious stranger arrives . . . and he could make Sarah’s demons all too real.
"The journey that Sarah makes while building the house is intense and scary, and all the horrible things that put her there are going to be revealed during the course of the six issues along with the story of Peck, the gunfighter who goes looking for absolution under the strangest roof he could ever stumble upon," said Peter Tomasi in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly.
In this House of Leaves meets Blood Meridian tale of how fortune brings misfortune, a grim and determined woman oversees the construction of a house twenty-four hours a day for twenty years with a simple motto: “keep busy building or get busy dying.”
House of Penance #1 (of 6) is in stores April 13, 2016. Preorder your copy today at your local comic shop!

NBM Publishing Celebrates 40th Anniversary
Debuts New Logo and Updated Website

NBMLOGONEW

For the past forty years, NBM Publishing, America's first publisher of graphic novels, has been the home of high quality comics; from pioneering the translation and release of foreign work such as by Enki Bilal and Hugo Pratt, to being the first collecting classic comic strips such as Terry & The Pirates in beautiful hardcovers, to becoming the home for some of the best US cartoonists being published today.

The publisher celebrates it's 40th anniversary with a number of exciting new announcements.

For the first time in decades, NBM Publishing now has a new logo, and branding, as NBM Graphic Novels.  In addition, a new website has launched, improving on functionality and navigation.

Also, the ComicsLit imprint has been dissolved, folding into the NBM brand.  The adult graphic novel imprint, Eurotica, will remain independent and separate.

NBM Publisher and founder Terry Nantier discussed the new changes, "After many milestones over these decades helping to open up the general bookstore trade and people’s perception of what comics can be, here we are at 40 years of operation still bringing out some of the best European and US comics you can find. I’m very proud of NBM’s great image and I figure it’s time and a great occasion to freshen up! The former NBM logo, with a design akin to comics panels, has served valiantly for decades but nothing lasts forever and it’s time for a cleaner, lighter, more modern look. ComicsLit also was an imprint we needed to launch over 15 years ago to distinguish our fiction line, but that’s much of what NBM stands for anyway today. We’re keeping things simple under one name and emphasizing our core mission all these years where comic books from us have been rare: publishing great graphic novels.”

As to the site, Nantier added, “we’re also taking the occasion to reorganize our site to better reflect the different categories of graphic novels we’ve been publishing, including our growing non-fiction category.”

This year, NBM will release work from such talented artists and writers as Lewis Trondheim, Joann Sfar, David Prudhomme, JirĂ´ Taniguchi, Sean Michael Wilson & Michiru Morikawa, Annie Goetzinger & Rodolphe, Stanislas, Nicolas Keramidas,  A. Dan, and Maximilien Le Roy, joining other recent creators as  Rick Geary, P. Craig Russell, Dara Naraghi, Brent Bowman, Margreet de Heer, Kerascoet, Etienne Davodeau, Patrick Atangan, Jim Benton, Ted Rall, and Julian Voloj.

These join such luminaries that have been in the NBM catalog in the past such as Will Eisner, Dave McKean, Scott Hampton, Bryan Talbot, Harlan Ellison, Joe Haldeman, Miguelanxo Prado, Vittorio Giardino, Milo Manara and Guido Crepax.

STARVE FANS HUNGRY FOR MORE?
The critically-acclaimed series dishes out second season
Writer Brian Wood (Star Wars, DMZ, The Massive), artist Danijel Zezelj (Northlanders, Loveless), and colorist Dave Stewart (THE WALKING DEAD, Star Wars) will launch a new story arc in their ongoing pop-culture satire series STARVE this February.
Previously in STARVE, Chef Gavin Cruikshank, back from self-imposed exile, found his little foodie television program "Starve" transformed into a gonzo arena sport where chefs slice and dice rare and endangered species for their super-rich patrons. With his personal life as much a shambles as his professional career, Chef Cruikshank worked to repair his relationship with his grown daughter while working to dismantle the monstrosity that Starve had become.
In STARVE #6, Cruikshank shifts his focus, addressing real world themes of food scarcity and class warfare, while taking real steps to getting his personal life back on track.
“In this second 'season' of Starve, Chef Gavin Cruikshank is recovering from the trauma of the first season and wondering why, since he's so successful at reclaiming his spot as a top chef, his personal life such a shambles. But IS he actually successful at rehabilitating his TV show, or is he just being co-opted all over again?” said Wood. “So in this arc he goes from the soundstage to the streets, bringing his ideas of food revolution directly to the people most affected by poverty and food scarcity. It’s a socio-political angle on food that we haven't touched on yet in the series. Gavin will never lose his caustic sense of humor, but it’s time he gets real. Really real.”
STARVE #6 (Diamond code: DEC150553) hits stores Wednesday, February 17th. Final order cutoff deadline for retailers is Monday, January 25th.

Jonesy #1 FOC Variant Cover by Bryan Lee O'Malley & Jason Fischer

January 12, 2016 (Los Angeles, Calif.) - This February, award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is smitten with Jonesy, the new limited series from heartbreakers Sam Humphries (Legendary Star-Lord, Weirdworld) and Caitlin Rose Boyle (Buck n’ Lou & the Night Crew). Perfect for fans of Giant Days, Scott Pilgrim, and the new Archie, this lighthearted comedy features a teen cupid in plaid who misuses her “love powers” as she tries to find her place in high school.

Jonesy is one of those comics that just brings a smile to your face,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “Sam and Caitlin have created a fresh, relatable group of characters that fit right into the BOOM! Box family alongside Lumberjanes and Giant Days, which means we can promise hilarious shenanigans, a great story, and beautiful art!”

Jonesy is a self-described “cool dork” who spends her time making zines nobody reads, watching anime, and listening to riot grrrl bands and 1D simultaneously. But she has a secret nobody knows: she has the power to make people fall in love! Anyone, with anything. She’s a cupid in plaid. There’s only one catch—it doesn’t work on herself. She’s gonna have to find love the old-fashioned way, and in the meantime, figure out how to distract herself from the real emotions she inevitably has to face when her powers go wrong.

Jonesy, like Giant Days, is the kind of series that would have kept me, as a teen, running back to the comic shop every month,” said Editor Shannon Watters. “I’m so pleased that BOOM! Box is able to bring it to all of you.”

Jonesy #1 (of 4) arrives in comic shops on February 10th with a main cover by series artist Caitlin Rose Boyle for the price of $3.99 under Diamond order code DEC151095. Announced earlier today, a second “Final Order Cutoff” variant cover by Bryan Lee O’Malley (Seconds, Scott Pilgrim) & Jason Fischer (Seconds) is now available the price of $3.99 under Diamond order code DEC158102. Also available in a limited quality is a retailer incentive cover by Lissa Treiman (Giant Days).

The Final Order Cutoff deadline for retailers is January 18th. Not sure where to find your nearest comic retailer? Use comicshoplocator.com or findacomicshop.com to find one!

FOREVER: THE COMPLETE SERIES
GAINS IMMORTALITY JANUARY 19 ON DVD VIA
WARNER ARCHIVE COLLECTION

Once again, Warner Archive Collection rewards fan loyalty with the release of a much-beloved series – Forever: The Complete Series comes to DVD on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 via WBshop.com and popular online retailers.

Fresh off its single-season run on ABC in 2014-2015, Forever: The Complete Series includes all 22 episodes as well as additional never-before-seen deleted scenes from many of the episodes on a 5-disc DVD set. Creator and Executive Producer Matthew Miller (Chuck, Human Target, The 100) is thrilled the series will live on through its DVD release.

“We’re so proud of this series and the way it resonated with fans,” Miller says. “I’m excited for the fans that we’re not only able to release all 22 episodes on DVD, but include previously unseen footage. It’s another chance to breathe new life into the show for both devoted fans and new viewers.”

The series’ premise struck an instant chord with fans: What would you do if you had all the time in the world? The otherworldly drama – from Miller and fellow executive producers Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) and Jennifer Gwartz (Veronica Mars) – follows Dr. Henry Morgan (Ioan Gruffudd), a star New York City medical examiner, on his journey to answer that looming question. Henry has a vested interest in studying the dead: He is immortal, and only his best friend and confidant, Abe (Judd Hirsch), full of life at age 75, knows Henry’s secret. Henry hasn’t aged at all since the clock stopped 200 years ago, but he’s managed to be discreet without anyone finding out his affliction. That task becomes increasingly difficult when he meets NYPD detective Jo Martinez (Alana De La Garza), who is fascinated by Henry after learning he was the sole survivor of a horrific train crash — and his knowledge proves extremely helpful to her in solving crimes.

“This series is about a character who is immortal, and to that point the show never ends – it never dies,” Miller says. “Given the incredible fan support we’ve received, I feel like that’s true. The fans have not stopped for a minute. They host live Twitter events and have created fan fiction, online graphic novels, you name it. Social media and the release of the full-series DVD continue to make this show immortal.”

Beyond Gruffudd (Fantastic Four, San Andreas), De La Garza (Law & Order, upcoming Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders) and Emmy® Award winner Hirsh (Taxi, Ordinary People, Independence Day), the main cast of Forever features Lorraine Toussaint (Rosewood, Orange Is The New Black), Joel David Moore (Bones, Avatar, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) and Donnie Keshawarz (24, The Sopranos, Damages).

The guest cast is filled with award-winning acting talent, most notably Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr. (American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson, Jerry Maguire), two-time Emmy® Award winner Jane Alexander (Warm Springs, All The President’s Men), and Emmy® & Golden Globe Award winner Jane Seymour (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Wedding Crashers, Live And Let Die). Fan favorites populate the guest cast, as well, including John Noble (Fringe, The Lord of the Rings), Emily Kinney (The Walking Dead), Roger Rees (Cheers, The West Wing, M.A.N.T.I.S.), Blair Brown (Fringe, Limitless, Orange Is The New Black), David Krumholtz (Numb3rs, Serenity), James McCaffrey (Rescue Me), Lee Tergesen (Defiance, Longmire, Oz), Don McManus (Justified, Mom), William Baldwin (Backdraft, Flatliners), Mackenzie Mauzy (Into The Woods, The Bold and the Beautiful), Hilarie Burton (One Tree Hill, White Collar), Shamika Cotton (The Wire) and Burn Gorman (Torchwood, Game of Thrones, The Dark Knight Rises).

The massive library from the publisher presents opportunities across the globe for distribution in many new territories. In addition, the International division will reach beyond IDW’s catalogue; joining IDW International is the renowned publisher Archie Comics, who for the first time will now be represented for non-English language rights.

“Controlling our own global publishing was a natural step for IDW as we continue our growth as a fully integrated media company,” said IDW CEO Ted Adams. “We're very pleased to also provide global publishing services for Archie and we'll be adding other creators and publishers as the new year progresses. Interested creators or publishers should contact Jeff Webber at jeff@idwpublishing.com.”

“It’s been a longtime goal of mine to expand the Archie brand internationally in terms of translations,” said Archie Comics Publisher/CEO Jon Goldwater. “Expanding our existing partnership with IDW will help make this a reality. We are all immensely excited to help IDW launch their new International division with some of the most beloved properties in pop culture: Archie and the gang.”

IDW is known as the premier publisher for licensed material, in 2015 alone debuting comic series for Back to the Future, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Orphan Black, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. These best selling, acclaimed titles join blockbuster perennial hits like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Trek, Ghostbusters, and The X-Files in the international markets through IDW International’s licensing endeavors.

In addition to the esteemed licensed titles that will now be made available, IDW’s rich catalogue of unique intellectual property is available to a global audience. From classic works like Locke & Key, Parker, and The Rocketeer, to new successes like Ragnarök, Little Nemo: Return to Slumberland, and D4VE, readers from all over the world will have the opportunity to discover these celebrated books. Top Shelf’s lauded library including March, Essex County, and From Hell is also available.

Archie Comics, the acclaimed and bestselling comic book publisher that is home to some of the best-known pop culture creations in the world, including Archie, Jughead, Betty & Veronica, Josie & The Pussycats, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and the hit AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE and CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA horror series, will for the first time be available for foreign distribution through IDW International. One of the longest running brands in comics, Archie’s rich history of over 75 years can now be enjoyed everywhere.

Leading the new division is Jeff Webber, formerly Vice President of Digital Publishing & Business Development who will now take on the role of Vice President of Licensing, Digital & Subsidiary Rights. “This is an exciting time for comics around the world,” stated Webber. “ There is a growing audience for American comics to be translated for other countries and languages. Additionally, we’ll be bringing some of the best international titles to the US audience.”

IDW International will make its debut at AngoulĂŞme International Comics Festival held this year from January 28th – 31st. For licensing and representation opportunities or to schedule a meeting at AngoulĂŞme, contact Jeff Webber at jeff@idwpublishing.com.
