SEVERIN FILMS TIGHTENS LOOSE SCREWS

Classic Sex-Romp Sequel Restored to Pristine Condition from Original Negative for DVD and Blu-Ray Debut

Features Director’s Cut and Uncensored International Version

LOS ANGELES (July 9, 2010) – Severin Films' release of Screwballs was one of the DVD events of 2009; a proud restoration of a lost classic to its rightful place just beneath Porky's in the pantheon of 80s teen sex comedies. But just when viewer's temperatures had finally dropped back within a medically acceptable range, Severin Films has plunged into the Corman vaults once more for Screwballs' ante-upping, button-busting follow-up. LOOSE SCREWS will available on DVD and Blu-Ray at discriminating retailers nationwide July 27.

In the grand, gross and gleeful tradition of Screwballs, LOOSE SCREWS is the archetypal 80s pubescent romp. Director Rafal Zielinski serves a heady mélange of laughs and licentiousness as we follow the horny high jinks of four young men banished to Cockswell Academy, a summer school created for teenagerdom's worst repeat offenders. To pass the time, the boys begin to play a game where points are scored by scoring with Cockswell's smorgasbord of comely teenage vixens. The ultimate prize - Ms. Mona Lott, Cockswell's pneumatic new French instructor. The only force standing in their way is the diabolical Principal Arsenault, who has designs of his own upon the preternaturally enervating Ms. Lott.

Severin CEO Carl Daft is particularly proud of Severin's restoration of LOOSE SCREWS, calling it "the best looking film we've ever released. Every frame of this uproarious film -- along with its cornucopia of feminine unmentionables -- has been restored in all its lusty, lustrous, lascivious glory thanks to Severin's unearthing of a long-thought-lost 35mm negative from deep within an abandoned vault beneath Interstate 5."

Severin has angered its DVD author once again by pushing the LOOSE SCREWS disc to new heights of storage capacity with an overabundance of extras. A rip-roaring commentary with director/80s teen sex maestro Rafal Zielinski is perfectly complemented by interviews with producer Ken Gord and legendary Canuxploitationer Maurice Smith. And as a digestive for the legions of SCREWS completists, Severin is also including the ultra-rare international version of LOOSE SCREWS in its entirety. The international cut -- containing 10 minutes of extra footage -- was sourced from the last known VHS European copy of LOOSE SCREWS in existence. It is presented in authentic VHS-Vision!

All in all, LOOSE SCREWS stands as a pitch perfect time capsule of its halcyon age. As opposed to Screwballs (a period piece), LOOSE SCREWS captures the crimped looks and incandescent sounds of 1985 with unabashed gusto. Soon-to-be household name Demi Moore even gets into the act, co-writing one of LOOSE SCREWS' more unforgettable songs, the finger-snapping "Changing" (co-written with first husband Freddy Moore of the Nu Kats.)

"If my comprehensive knowledge of film history tells me one thing, it's that it is beyond Sisyphean to duplicate a runaway success" says Severin CEO Carl Daft. "Too many sequels to count have been found mowed down on celluloid’s Omaha Beach, never to be heard from again. That's why we at Severin count ourselves extraordinarily fortunate to possess the rights to one of cinema's few sequels that actually outdo its forbear. It's undeniable; LOOSE SCREWS delivers the goods, runs back to the store, refills all available cubic space, drives to your home once more, and surprises you with a glorious dessert."

Joining the cast are writer, director, executive producer and three-time Academy Award nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile); executive producers Kirkman and Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon), make-up artist Greg Nicotero (George Romero’s Land of the Dead, The Mist); and Joel Stillerman, AMC's SVP of original programming, production and digital content. “The Walking Dead” will premiere this October during AMC Fearfest, the network's annual blockbuster marathon of thriller and horror films.

During the hour-long event, moderator Eric Moro of IGN.com will lead panelists in a discussion about their experience shooting the series in Atlanta, and the process of bringing Kirkman’s comic book to life on the small screen, among other topics, followed by an exclusive first look at “The Walking Dead,” and a Q&A session with attendees.

“The Walking Dead” panel will be complemented by a number of on-the-ground activities taking place throughout Comic Con:

* “The Walking Dead” booth will be a semi-recreation of a scene from the pilot episode.

About “The Walking Dead”

The Walking Dead tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth.

AMC and Fox International Channels (FIC) recently announced an unprecedented partnership whereby FIC has picked up all International Television and Home Video rights to “The Walking Dead,” the network’s first wholly-owned original production series. The deal includes a first-run window on all FIC’s outlets in addition to full distribution rights for the life of the series, outside of the U.S. and Canada.

In addition to Darabont, Hurd and Kirkman, David Alpert from Circle of Confusion, and Charles “Chic” Eglee (Dexter, The Shield, Dark Angel) serve as executive producers. Jack LoGiudice (Sons of Anarchy, Resurrection Blvd) serves as co-executive producer.

Limited to 350 copies, you can show your love for Poyo and CHEW by picking up your copy from writer John Layman and artist Rob Guillory at Image Comics booth #2729. Web-Comics Auction To Benefit The Gulf Of Mexico

Web-cartoonists from around the country and beyond have answered Carly Monardo's call for original art donations. The donated artwork is being auctioned off on Ebay with 100% of the profits going to The Colbert Nation Gulf Of America Fund, managed by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation.

July 8, 2010 -- The first auctions went live on Monday, July 5th, with new 5 or more artists being added each day. Response has been extremely positive and fans seem enthusiastic to bid on their favorite creators' work. The final set of auctions will launch tomorrow, July 9th (Friday). Each individual auction lasts for a total of 10 days.

Monardo, a color-stylist for Adult Swim's hit series Venture Bros., was inspired to organize the event after seeing how successful her colleague Thomas Bayne's animation auction had been. Bayne's auction (which has already raised thousands of dollars for the Gulf Of America Fund) featured original production drawings from Venture Bros., many signed by creator Jackson Public and members of the show's cast.

The Web-Comics Auction has attracted talents from around the world, including fan-favorites Kate Beaton ("Hark! A Vagrant"), Anthony Clark ("Nedroid"), Christopher Hastings ("The Adventures Of Dr. McNinja), and Michael "Mookie" Terracciano ("Dominic Deegan: Oracle For Hire). There are even contributions from non-cartoonists, such as Brandon Bird, who was recently profiled in Newsweek for his bizarre celebrity portraits.

The official web-site for the auction has a full list of contributors, a schedule with links to each live auction, and links to additional information on the charitable fund the profits will be donated to. It is located at: http://www.lasagnachildren.com/Gulf

About Wallace & Gromit

Wallace

An endearing and affable inventor. Ever enthusiastic, Wallace's hair-brained, over-ambitious, yet well intentioned ideas consistently get him and his faithful hound into trouble. A definite penchant for cheese and crackers, not to mention fashionable knitwear!

Gromit

Wallace's long-suffering loyal pooch. Gromit cares greatly for Wallace even though he's often railroaded into his master’s mad-cap plans. Though cultured and sensitive, preferring order and the quiet life, Gromit displays amazing courage and heroism when it comes to getting his master out of self-made scrapes. Always showing astonishing initiative, Gromit is definitely the intelligent one of the pair.

The summer 2008 blockbusterWanted started life as an independent comic book by Top Cow. Since release, the movie has raked in more than $340 million worldwide. Before Wanted, there was Dark Horse Comics’ Hellboy, which captured $260 million worldwide between two films. Now, the indies are taking their next step, into animation, as Frozen Beach Studios announces that the comic book series Atomik Mike has been optioned by Solipsist Films for animated feature film development.

Atomik Mike was originally released as a comic book with Alias Entertainment in May 2006. The second series and two trade paperbacks were released by Desperado Publishing. The comic book series follows the misadventures of Mike Connors and his salvage company crew as they pursue Captain Tariq and Mr. Peck, the two men responsible for transforming Mike into a monkey.

“Atomik Mike is a wonderful creation by the guys at Frozen Beach. Great story telling and we cannot wait to bring Atomik Mike and this world to life, “said the President of Solipsist Films, Stephen L’Heureux. Solipsist Films tapped into the entrepreneurial studio Root Films to lead the production process. Root Films will be writing, directing and overseeing design and animation with creative input from Frozen Beach throughout the process. “"The opportunity to work with Zack and Ed on our second collaboration with such a rich brand and layered characters was something we could not pass up," L’Heureux remarked.

Stephan Nilson, president of Frozen Beach Studios, started his work with comics in 2001 with a limited budget, a small pool of independent readers and fierce competition. Today, Nilson has optioned several of his titles. In addition to Atomik Mike, Solipsist has optioned the Frozen Beach Studios title Upgraded. The Pound, scheduled for comic book release in Fall 2010, is optioned for theatrical development by Kevin Spacey’s production company, Trigger Street. Government Bodies, originally released under the Across the Pond Studios imprint, is optioned with Nu Image for television development with Nilson attached to write the pilot.

Nilson readily offers advice to would-be creators. “I guess the best advice I could give is to make sure your work is professional. Whether it’s a comic or script, TV or movie, honestly compare it to other works in the market. You have to be honest with yourself. Does it truly stack up to what people are paying to read and watch? If it doesn’t go back and fix it, and never go with your first draft no matter how awesome you think it is. There will always be something to tighten up.”

Nilson is represented by William Morris Endeavor. Visit Frozen Beach Studios at San Diego Comic Con 2010, Booth #2107.
