Star Trek: The Next Generation:
Mirror Broken #1 Sells Out

Second Printing From IDW Publishing Beaming To Comic Shops

“This year is the 30th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and this comic from IDW is the perfect way to celebrate the occasion.” - Nerdist

San Diego, CA (May 12, 2017) – The Next Generation crew of Star Trek are boldly going to The Mirror Universe! Enter a sleeveless, jacked Captain Jean-Luc Picard, sporting an “evil” goatee, and you have a decidedly new fangled take on the classic Mirror Universe concept made popular by the original Star Trek series.
The Mirror Universe has never been this buff, and the mainstream press took notice:
“A super-buff Picard in a sleeveless muscle shirt? Bring it on.” - LA Times
“Look at those arms. Look at that facial hair. Clearly, this isn’t the Captain Jean-Luc Picard you grew up with, but you can be damned sure that he’s about to become your new favorite. Somehow The Next Generation has gone all Mirror Universe, and we can’t wait to see it in action!” - io9
I'm sorry ... did you miss the word "sleeveless" and "jacked" and "Picard" above? Because yes. Very, very yes. - NPR
Over 100,000 copies of the Star Trek: The Next Generation: Mirror Broken FCBD prelude issue were given away on Free Comic Book Day and caused a stir among both the media and fans. As a direct result, the debut issue of the “Mirror Broken” limited series has sold out at the distributor level in advance of the on sale date.
Fans can still head to their comic shop on launch day to snatch up a copy before they are gone or purchase the issue digitally, but for those who miss out on a first edition and would like to collect this groundbreaking issue in print, a second printing has been issued to meet the demand of this highly anticipated debut.
The FCBD prelude was recently spotlighted by multiple outlets as one of the “can’t-miss” giveaways at your local comic shop with the LA Times, NPR, Nerdist, io9, Ain’t It Cool News, CBR, and many more adding it to their top picks.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Mirror Broken #1, written by Scott and David Tipton, with art by J.K. Woodward, goes on sale on May 17, 2017 with the “shattered cover” second printing following on May 31, 2017.

BOOM! STUDIOS REVEALS CREATIVE TEAM FOR

KURT SUTTER'S SISTERS OF SORROW

"Sons of Anarchy'" Creator Brings "Nuns with Guns" to Comics

Sisters of Sorrow #1 Main Cover by Jae Lee

Sisters of Sorrow #1 Intermix Cover by Andre de Freitas

May 4, 2016 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – BOOM! Studios announces the creative team for SISTERS OF SORROW, the first original series created exclusively for comic books by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. Launching in July, Bram Stoker Award-nominated novelist Courtney Alameda (Shutter) and breakthrough artist Hyeonjin Kim join Sutter for a revenge story he describes as, “Nuns with guns.”

“I really love to f--- with genre,” declares Sutter. “With Sisters of Sorrow we’ve created what presumably just looks like high camp and kickass action, but right below the surface, we reveal three-dimensional women, struggling with real-life abuse and the scars of deep emotional pain. At its core, weaved in and out of the action-packed narrative and amazing artwork, SOS is about abused women empowering themselves. We actually get to tell stories that matter. Like with SOA, it might be the flash of guns and leather that entice you to show up, but it's the characters and their struggle that keeps you coming back.”

By day, Dominique, Misha, Sarah, and Greta run a nonprofit women’s shelter. At night, they each don a nun’s habit and move through Los Angeles hunting down violent abusers who have escaped justice. Their increasingly public vigilantism has earned them the nickname, “Sisters of Sorrow”—and has drawn the ire of L.A.’s notorious anti-crime task force.

“As a woman who’s experienced intimate partner abuse—and watched her friends deal with it as well—I can’t lie, Sisters of Sorrow is cathartic to write,” says Alameda. “And while I may personally identify with the issues that Dominique, Misha, Sarah, and Greta each face, I also believe the story of their crusade for justice will resonate broadly with readers, too. Who can say they haven’t secretly dreamt of meting out justice to their bullies or abusers? And as someone who grew up watching Westerns with her father, I love the way Sisters of Sorrow subverts the stereotypical vigilante tale and puts the power in the victims’ own hands. Dominique, Misha, Sarah, and Greta don’t need a man to save them—they can save their own damn selves.”

“The main focus of Sisters of Sorrow is that the female characters are antiheroes. Despite prior challenges in their life, they strive to overcome them,“ adds Kim. “As an Asian woman, it means a lot for me to work on a project like this since it defies the racial and sexual standards and expectations of society. It is a project that introduces harmony amongst female characters of different races, while presenting them as strong, individual women who strive to solve social problems.”

Sisters of Sorrow is the latest project Sutter has worked on with BOOM! Studios, having supervised original stories in the publisher’s hit Sons of Anarchy comic book series (including the current Sons of Anarchy Redwood Original title) and launching an original supernatural series, Lucas Stand.

Sisters of Sorrow #1 features covers by Jae Lee (The Inhumans, The Dark Tower: Gunslinger Born) and Andre De Freitas (Evil Empire). Print copies will be available for sale at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one) or at the BOOM! webstore. Digital copies will be available to purchase on digital book marketplaces, including ComiXology and the BOOM! Studios app.

Sisters of Sorrow is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to a world-class group of licensed comic book series and ambitious original series, including Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, WWE, Planet of the Apes, Victor LaValle’s Destroyer, Godshaper, Grass Kings, and Klaus.

"KEVIN SMITH & FRIENDS PRESENTED BY DYNAMITE"
TAKES CENTER STAGE WITH NEW HUMBLE COMICS BUNDLE

Essential Comic Book Reading Written by the Acclaimed Filmmaker,
Joined by Fellow "Comic Book Men" and Frequent Collaborators, are Celebrated in
Dynamite Entertainment's Most Anticipated Bundle Promotion,
with Partial Proceeds Benefitting The Wayne Foundation

May 3, 2017, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Dynamite Entertainment, a leader in comic book and graphic novel publishing, again teams with Humble Bundle to offer an essential collection of filmmaker Kevin Smith's fan-favorite work at the publisher. The promotion, which includes over 70 issues (many of which inhabit the universe of Smith's groundbreaking Green Hornet reimagining), launches today and will run through 11:00am PDT on May 17th. "Humble Comics Bundle: Kevin Smith & Friends Presented by Dynamite" can be found at: https://www.humblebundle.com/books/kevin-smith-comics

Kevin Smith's first-ever Dynamite series, Green Hornet, took the comic market by storm in 2010 by introducing a modern incarnation of Britt Reid's masked alter-ego, fighting crime undercover side-by-side with a fearsomely adept female bodyguard, Kato. Smith's fellow comic book collaborators Phil Hester and Ande Parks expanded on his ten-issue saga with further Green Hornet and Kato projects. Now, Dynamite Entertainment offers fans an exclusive opportunity to pick up a massive collection of Green Hornet comics by these exceptional talents, and explore their other Dynamite work, as well. Furthermore, projects like Cryptozoic Man -- created by Walt Flanagan and Bryan Johnson of Kevin Smith's Comic Book Men television show -- and the Sundance Film Festival movie tie-in Yoga Hosers one-shot (premiering as a digital comic on Humble Bundle for the first time ever) welcome more glimpses into the creative world surrounding one of master storytellers of the modern age.

"Ever since Clerks first ensnared the public consciousness, Kevin Smith has proven time and again to be a true innovator in cinema and comic books. We've considered it a pleasure and great honor to work with him throughout the years, bringing his fresh, new ideas to print," says Dynamite CEO and Publisher, Nick Barrucci. "Working hand-in-hand with Humble Bundle, we're proud to bring his Green Hornet series to a new audience, growing the comics market and bringing more awareness to the work of Smith, Hester, Parks, and the Cryptozoic Man team of Flanagan and Johnson. Enjoy!"

Part of the proceeds from the "Humble Comics Bundle: Kevin Smith & Friends Presented by Dynamite" promotion will contribute to The Wayne Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading awareness of CSEC occurring in the United States, and providing direct services to young women victimized by commercial exploitation.
