Studios and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products announce WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES comic book series that serves as a prequel story to the upcoming blockbuster film. Written by David F. Walker (Power Man and Iron Fist) and illustrated by Jonas Scharf (Warlords of Appalachia), War for the Planet of the Apes comic series debuts July 12, 2017 as a four-issue monthly limited series. The highly anticipated 20th Century Fox film opens two days later on July 14.

“I'm a huge fan of the original Planet of the Apes films, and I really love what they've done with the new series,” says Walker. “Working on War for the Planet of the Apes not only means that I get to play around in my favorite film franchise, it means I get to contribute to what may ultimately be the best Apes film since the first one in 1968.”

“It's going to be both fun and challenging to work on such a well-established franchise. Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes were both fantastic movies that had some really beautiful visuals and great character development,” adds Scharf. “Playing around with more realistic likenesses and locations from the movies and a more stylized approach in the context of the medium of comics is also going to be interesting. And let's be honest here, drawing apes is also just a ton of fun.”

Picking up where the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes film left off, the War for the Planet of the Apes comic series will serve as a bridge to the upcoming new movie. Spanning the course of a year, this limited series focuses on various groups of characters throughout the United States, giving readers a look into this mysterious world.

“The story I've written for War for the Planet of the Apes takes place between the Dawn and War films, as Caesar prepares the apes for the threat he knows they are about to face from the human military,” explains Walker. “At the same time, we explore what is happening in other parts of the country, and how apes and humans struggle for dominance in the aftermath of the Simian Virus.”

Studios and Saban Brands announce SABAN’S GO GO POWER RANGERS, an all-new ongoing comic book series that will debut in July 2017 and is based on the original, hit TV series “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.” The series will explore the transition of the original five Rangers from ordinary high schoolers to world-saving superheroes. Ryan Parrott (Star Trek: Starfleet Academy) returns to BOOM! Studios and the Power Rangers franchise after his work on the sold-out, original graphic novel, Power Rangers: Aftershock, which followed the release of the 2017 feature film, “Saban’s Power Rangers.” Parrott is teaming with Russ Manning Award-winning artist Dan Mora (WWE, Klaus).

Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers is set after the first episode of “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” and centers around Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Trini, and Billy as they navigate high school, just days after receiving their superhero abilities. The story delves into their lives of saving the world while juggling history tests, dating and after-school jobs.

“It's hard enough being a teenager and juggling relationships, school, and family—I can't even imagine throwing in protecting the world,” says Parrott. “The goal of Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers is to focus on more personal, intimate character stories. We dive deeper to fully examine the wish-fulfilling, awesomeness of having superpowers, along with the pressure of that responsibility.”

Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers will be the second ongoing Power Rangers comic book series launched and follows the record-breaking debut of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from BOOM! Studios in January 2016, which sold over 1 million copies in its first year.

After the hit series “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” launched in 1993, Saban’s “Power Rangers” quickly became the most-watched children’s television programs and is one of the longest-running kids action series in television history. Currently the series is in its 24th season with “Power Rangers Ninja Steel” airing on Nickelodeon and rolling out globally throughout the year.

“The ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ was one of my first exposures to the superhero genre, and a big part of the appeal was the lives of these characters when they weren’t saving the world,” says Dafna Pleban, Editor. “Ryan [Parrott] and Dan [Mora] are incredibly adept at capturing both the awesome cosmic action of being a Ranger, and the emotional reality of being a teen at the same time.”
