THE LIVES OF SACCO & VANZETTI

A Treasury of XXth Century Murder: The Lives of Sacco & Vanzetti

Rick Geary tackles the most controversial case of the 20th century. Anarchists Sacco & Vanzetti were accused of robbery and murder but so many supposedly damning pieces of evidence were questionable their guilty verdict elicited massive protests around the world. Geary presents us with all the twists and turns, appeals and dubious evidence after presenting us the human face of the two men, demonized by many, turned to martyrs by many others in his usual unflappable way.

Besides Geary signing the regular clothbound edition, there will also be an edition limited to only 25 copies and available only directly from NBM of which some copies will be available at this show. Geary is a nominee for an Eisner this year for his last Treasury tome: The Terrible Axe-Man of New Orleans.

KINKY & COSY

Kinky & Cosy

Shocking! Disgusting! Meet the most dangerous twin girls in the universe! Their record of wrong doings, on purpose or not, will raise your hair on end. A darkly subversive collection of cynical comics gags that is sweeping Europe. Nothing is sacred for these two lil’ monsters! South Park meets Monty Python.

An outrageous collection of gags in a very striking hardcover with google eyes will be unveiled for the very first time, flown in from the printer! NBM's site and blog has been featuring many strips of this highly subversive duo of 8 year old twins.

Salvatore vol.2

Inner Sanctum Mysteries

A revered veteran of comics brings to comics life one of the most fondly remembered mystery and horror radio shows in history.

A little paperback preview of Ernie Colon's next exciting project, The Inner Sanctum, will be made available for a mere $1 as well as a show exclusive -identified as such- 25 copies signed and numbered by him for $5.

The graphic novel will be out by December in striking black & white as only Colon is well known for, features adaptations of the old famous horror and mystery NBC radio show.

THE LIVES OF SACCO & VANZETTI

Little Nothings: My Shadow In The Distance

The very first few copies of the all-new 4th volume of Lewis Trondheim's highly acclaimed Little Nothings will be available for sale. We've only a few copies to bring, sure to go fast!

HPA Celebrates End of an Era with Harry Potter Generation
Brings fans together to make real change with the series that has impacted millions

Boston, MA – The Harry Potter Alliance (HPA) and its members have been busy with its largest undertaking ever over the past nine months: the Deathly Hallows Campaign. The organization tackled seven horcruxes, or real world evils, each with various successes. The campaign brought thousands of members of the Harry Potter Generation together to make real changes in our world inspired by the novels they love.

On June 12, our seventh and final horcrux was announced. Poised to trigger wars over water, genocides around refugees, poverty, disease, drowning of entire nations, and the death of millions through increasingly brutal “natural” disasters, the Climate Crisis is a human rights issue that simply cannot be ignored. Together, HPA members will work together with Splashlife, a cutting edge online community for young people, by submitting art and ideas that can help change the Climate Crisis for good.

Many of our campaigns have continued past their original time span. Not In Harry’s Name, our first DHC campaign, is still going strong and discussions with the Warner Bros. CEO Barry Meyer continue. Additionally, our partnership with Dear Mr. Potter: Letters of Love, Loss, and Magic has been an enormous success. As of the end of the preorder period on July 30, nearly 3000 Dear Mr. Potter books had been sold, raising thousands of dollars for the HPA.

“The Deathly Hallows Campaign which started with the release of Deathly Hallows Part One and will end with the release of Deathly Hallows Part II is a cap to an amazing 6 years of the Harry Potter Alliance sending five cargo planes to Haiti, winning the Chase Community Challenge, working against genocide, and more,” said HPA Executive Director Andrew Slack. “We are witnessing the Harry Potter Generation, which grew up on a book series, applying the message of that series toward changing the world. We will convince Warner Bros. to no longer use child slavery in the production of Harry Potter chocolate.”

The HPA is partnering with Splashlife by running two concurrent competitions, one for art and one for ideas, demonstrating how young people can fight the Climate Crisis. The deadline to submit an entry to the contest is July 20 at 11:59 p.m. and voting ends on July 30 at 11:50 p.m.

Winning entries will be reviewed by our Advisory Panel of prominent public figures:

* Jason Alexander, actor best known for his role on Seinfeld;
* Evanna Lynch, Harry Potter actress;
* Bill McKibben, hailed by the Boston Globe and Time Magazine as the most important environmentalist in the US;
* Christina Lurie, the co-owner of the Philadelphia Eagles who has announced a major initiative to green Lincoln Financial Field;
* Melissa Anelli, best selling author of Harry, A History;
* Ray Cooper, former president of Virgin Records America;
* Andrew Slack, writer/comedian and creator, co-founder, and Executive Director of the Harry Potter Alliance and Imagine Better;
* Jamie Catto, critically acclaimed filmmaker, musician, and social media innovator;
* Jonathan Prince, Television producer;
* John Green, best selling young adult author and famous YouTube vlogger;
* Hank Green, Head of Ecogeek, co-owner of DFTBA Records, and famous YouTube vlogger;
* Harry and the Potters, indie wizard rock punk sensations;
* The Whomping Willows, prominent Wizard Rock band;
* Shawn Ahmed, prominent YouTube celebrity and youth organizer;
* Alan Lustufka, co-owner of the online YouTube based record label, DFTBA Records; and
* Dan Brown, prominent YouTube celebrity.

The Harry Potter Generation expresses itself in many forms. One way is through the highly successful Dear Mr. Potter: Letters of Love, Loss, and Magic, organized by 16 year old Lily Zalon. The book is a collection of letters and artwork from fans of the Harry Potter series. All sales of the book are benefiting the HPA. All preorders are eligible to win an autographed copy of Dear Mr. Potter by actor Rupert Grint, who portrays Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films. Also included in the book are letters from Harry Potter actress Evanna Lynch, best-selling authors Melissa Anelli and John Green, and fans from across the world. The books will be available for purchase at the upcoming Orlando-based convention LeakyCon and online through the HPA.

Additionally, the Harry Potter Generation wants to see that it’s favorite characters are being utilized in ways in line with the themes of the series. As a result, for nine months the HPA has been working to make all Harry Potter chocolate Fair Trade through its campaign Not in Harry’s Name. Recently, this campaign made great strides when Luna Lovegood actress Evanna Lynch added her signature to the organization's petition to Time Warner, the parent company of Warner Bros., which produces the Potter films. In addition, U.S. State Department Ambassador Luis CdeBaca offered his support of the campaign. Warner Bros. CEO Barry Meyer has responded to the campaign stating, "We welcome any specific information you have that would be contrary to our ethical sourcing activities." The HPA is currently working with the corporation on this issue and hopes to see the change made in the near future.

The HP Alliance (www.thehpalliance.org) is a 501c3 nonprofit that uses parallels from Harry Potter to inspire hundreds of thousands of Harry Potter fans to act as heroes in our world. To date, the HPA has sent five cargo planes to Haiti, donated over 88,000 books across the world, made profound strides for the anti-genocide, LGBTQ, and media reform movements. The HPA is currently expanding it’s model of “cultural acupuncture” as it brings together over 20 fan communities of blockbuster books, television shows, and movies, the world’s most prominent YouTube celebrities and New York Times best selling authors in an unprecedented network that takes a bottom up approach to harnessing the energy of popular culture, modern myth, and social media for social change.

VANCOUVER (July 7, 2011) - Arcana Studios, an award winning comic book publisher and transmedia producer, is thrilled to annouce a couple of talented writers signing at the Arcana booth at San Diego Comic Con, Hans Rodionoff and Tom Akel.

The entertainment industry is rife with creators crossing between genres, but these days it seems to be particularly prevalent within the film and tv industries crossing over into the realm of comic books. Bringing a "big budget" mentality to the comic book world, Hans Rodionoff, writer of Lost Boys: The Tribe and Lost Boys: The Thirst, as well as one of the writers of the new Voltron Force TV series, recently crossed into the comic book medium, bringing us the ultra-creepy Raise Kane, a loose adaptation of Citizen Kane with "all of the blood, s e x, and death that Orson Welles originally intended." Hans will be appearing at the Arcana Comics booth 2415 on Friday, July 22 from 2:00 - 2:45 PM and Saturday, July 23 from 1:00 - 1:45 PM.

Tom Akel, former lead of the mobile and broadband division for Comedy Central and current head of production for shows and games at MTV Digital, introduced us to his Arcana book, Anywhere, as a limited series, which was recently collected and released as a graphic novel. Anywhere is about the misadventures of Dust and Wormhole, two twenty-somethings who possess the power to go anywhere, but are more interested in unlocking the nude code in Tomb Raider than saving the day. Tom Akel will be appearing at the Arcana Comics booth 2415 on Friday, July 22 from 1:00 - 1:45 PM and Saturday, July 23 from 2:00 - 2:45 PM.

IDW TO RELEASE DEADWORLD ORIGINAL GRAPHIC NOVEL
Deadworld: The Last Siesta features a standalone story set in Deadworld.
Coming in September will be a complete stand alone saga set in the realm of Deadworld in an original graphic novel released by IDW, a premier publisher of graphic novels and books. Deadworld: The Last Siesta continues the relationship between Deadworld and IDW which in the last year has released three collections of Deadworld material in association with Desperado Publishing.

According to writer, Gary Reed, Deadworld: The Last Siesta is meant to be an entry way into the Deadworld which has been published since the mid- 1980’s with over 75 issues in print. “It’s obvious that a lot of people are a bit intimidated by jumping into such a long running series,” said Reed, “so one of the things I thought was important was to do a new story that was self contained, complete, and set outside of the chronology of the ongoing Deadworld storyline.” Although The Last Siesta is not part of the continuity of Deadworld, it does feature the most popular character from Deadworld, King Zombie.

The graphic novel, running 112 pages and retailing for $14.95, is on the September schedule from IDW. Reed said that since it is a complete story released in one package, it wasn’t even solicited until the entire project was done, except for the lettering. “The artist, Mark Bloodworth, finished it at the beginning of the year so he’s anxious to finally see it in print,” said Reed.

Reed said that the story takes place in Mexico where King Zombie heads across the border and finds himself plunged into a bitter dispute between a former drug cartel and the assassin, Raga. “It has some of the elements of a classic Sergio Leone piece in that there are three individuals, each with their own agenda who of course, intersect with some interesting and violent results.”

The script is from Reed and Gary Francis. Francis was the collaborator in the 1990’s with David Mack on Happy the Clown and Young Dracula. The artist, Mark Bloodworth, is well known for his work on Deadworld as he took over after the original Deadworld artist, Vince Locke left for DC. Bloodworth himself also left Deadworld in order to draw Clive Barker’s Nightbreed for Marvel Comics, so The Last Siesta is a return of Bloodworth to Deadworld.

IDW Publishing has recently released two massive volumes of Deadworld Classics which collect the original series (the first 16 issues plus many extras) and Deadworld Omnibus which collects all of the “rebooted” Deadworld. The “rebooted” Deadworld started with the six issue series from Image Comics that was followed by the storylines of Frozen Over and Slaughterhouse.

Reed said that after the release of Deadworld: The Last Siesta, there will be a new serial that will have Deadworld in color for the first time. Deadworld: Infection is illustrated by Sami Makkonen, artist of the Slaughterhouse storyline. Infection is not yet on the schedule but Reed said that about 70 pages are finished.

Deadworld: The last Siesta. Diamond order #JUL110399, 112 pages, $14.95. For more information on Deadworld, visit www.deadworld.info

IDW Announces 30 DAYS OF NIGHT Ongoing Series

Steve Niles returns to pen an all-new monthly series

Beginning in October

[30 Days of Night Ongoing #1 Image]San Diego, CA (July 5, 2011)—IDW Publishing today announced an all-new, ongoing 30 DAYS OF NIGHT comic book series, starting in October. Original co-creator Steve Niles returns to his first creation with this latest chapter in the 30 DAYS OF NIGHT series, joined by 30 Days of Night: Night, Again artist and The Maxx creator Sam Kieth. Niles and Kieth depict an epic story that shifts from Barrow, Alaska, to the city of angels, Los Angeles.

“I've been wanting to get back into the 30 Days of Night universe and shake things up for awhile now” said creator Niles. “I've just been waiting for the right moment, and the right artist. I have the right artist in Sam Kieth and the time is now.”

This terrifying new tale begins when a letter from Barrow, Alaska, carries a cryptic warning to a young, curious woman, leading her down a rabbit hole and face-to-face with her desires... and likely her demise. Elsewhere in Los Angeles, a vampire resurrection ignites, which could threaten the very way of life of all mankind.

“After several years away, Steve has returned to the 30 Days of Night world with a renewed vigor,” said editor Denton J. Tipton. “He has a great vision for the long game with surprises that even Steve didn’t see coming. And having Sam bring his mad genius to the project is like manna from heaven. Or, more appropriately, manna from hell.”

This new, ongoing series features a fresh cast of characters being introduced to the world of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT for the first time. Fans are encouraged to ask their retailers about the rare Fiona Staples cover and vampire plush dolls.

“Honestly, I have nightmares because of this book,” added Tipton. “Steve and Sam are seriously deranged. I’ve read things that would make Freud blush. I’ve seen things that would make Chuck Norris vomit. Horror fans are going to love it.”

30 DAYS OF NIGHT #1 ($3.99, 32 pages, full color) will be available in stores in October 2011.

STARZ ORIGINAL SERIES “TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY” PREMIERES FRIDAY, JULY 8 AT 10PM ET/PT

STARZ will present the original series premiere of “Torchwood: Miracle Day” entitled ‘The New World,’ on Friday, July 8th at 10pm ET/PT. The one-hour, 10-part series features “Torchwood” alumni John Barrowman (Capt. Jack Harkness) and Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) along with Mekhi Phifer (Rex Matheson), Bill Pullman (Oswald Danes) and, in an extended guest role, Lauren Ambrose (Jilly Kitzinger).

"Torchwood: Miracle Day" begins with a day when nobody dies. All across the world, nobody dies. And then the next day, and the next, and the next, people keep aging -- they get hurt and sick -- but they never die. The result: a population boom, overnight. With all the extra people, resources are finite. It's said that in four month's time, the human race will cease to be viable. But this can't be a natural occurrence - someone's got to be behind it. It's a race against time as C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy. The answers lie within an old, secret British institute. As Rex keeps asking "What is Torchwood?," he's drawn into a world of adventure, and a threat to change what it means to be human, forever.

STARZ’ newest original series is a reimagining of the UK sensation, which originally debuted in 2006 on BBC One. The show's original creator, writer/producer Russell T Davies, serves as executive producer along with BBC Worldwide Productions' SVP Julie Gardner, with Davies also serving as show-runner. "Torchwood: Miracle Day" is produced by BBC Worldwide Productions for Starz, BBC Cymru Wales and BBC Worldwide.

TWO SKYBOUND SELL OUTS
Debut Issue of Witch Doctor and Super Dinosaur #3 Return to Press

Berkeley, CA – 5 July 2011 – From stories of demonic possession to robotic dino arms, Robert Kirkman's new Skybound imprint at Image Comics has made a very promising start! Not only are WITCH DOCTOR, the grisly medical horror miniseries, and the dynamic all ages ongoing SUPER DINOSAUR getting great reviews, but they are also proving to be massively popular with fans.

While writer Brandon Seifert and artist Lukas Ketner's WITCH DOCTOR #1 may still be available through some comic book retailers, the first printing copies are limited to current stock. SUPER DINOSAUR #3, by Kirkman and his former ASTOUNDING WOLF-MAN co-creator, artist Jason Howard, is also sold out at distribution level. A second printing is underway for both and will arrive back on shelves later this month.

"I've been very selective in what my Skybound imprint will publish," explained Kirkman. "Not only has Image been at the forefront of the creator owned movement since it began, but is increasingly known for maintaining relentless quality across a variety of genres. I'm pleased that the Skybound titles fit in so nicely with the rest of the line up!"

A second printing of WITCH DOCTOR #1 (MAY118278), a 32-page full-color horror comic for $2.99, is available for order now and will be back in stores on July 27.
